We tried out Vern's for the first time on a Thursday evening! We made it there by about 5:00 PM and it was easy enough to get a table for 2 with only indoor seating available. It's a small space inside but it's designed well enough to manage a flow of traffic for customers and staff. We sat in the back greenhouse area. I think the least enjoyable part of our experience was how loud it was in the restaurant. Definitely not a good spot if you're trying to catch up with someone and your voice doesn't carry. I couldn't actually hear the specials the server was telling us. I want to try out Vern's again, so I may wait until there's an outdoor table or ask to sit in the second level to see if that's quieter. We tried one of their spring menu appetizer items, the Japanese sweet potatoes with kimchi ranch and dill. One bite and I was addicted, these were so so good. We then moved on to the classics for entrees -- bee sting pizza and the ragu-- and we were amazed at how good everything was! The only note we had was about the pizza, it was very soggy in the middle but still edible if you rolled it over in itself. We also had a few cocktails, and while they were somewhat small, you could tell they weren't watered down in any way. Two drinks was more than enough for me. Overall it was a great experience and we want to try it again. If you're someone who struggles to enjoy a meal out where you can't hear much, maybe wait for outdoor tables.
Went to Vern's with my friend on Super Bowl Sunday and there was no wait! Since I'm vegetarian, we didn't end up doing family-style, but I absolutely love Vern's. The ingredients are fresh, the restaurant is so cozy, and the service is incredible. The lemon parm risotto was packed with flavor and creamy delight . I loved the tangy brightness balanced with the richness. It was done so well. I would definitely go back! My one note is that I wish they had more vegetarian entrées beyond just the vegetable dishes and pizza.
Every season I look forward to a new Vern's menu. And every season I am not disappointed. My favorite dessert right now is the salted honey budino. Best entree I've had recently is a pizza special they had with steak, vodka sauce, and some super spicy peppers. I have to stop myself from going to Vern's every single week. Service is always top tier and ambiance is cozy/romantic.
Visited on Monday for our anniversary. Arrived around 4:45 and we were seated with no wait. We love the upstairs seating area as the ambiance and candle lit table helped to create a romantic evening. The staff are just so warm and helpful. They made us feel welcomed and helped to make the occasion feel special. The fall menu is exciting. We were blown away by the orange pizza- vodka sauce, local squash, prosciutto, with goat cheese and balsamic. The flavors worked so well together. We loved the crispy texture of the wood fired pizza. We also enjoyed a pork chop with a sweet and sour glaze & the lost meatball ragu. The flavors and presentation are always on point at Vern's. Portions are large and meant to be shared with plenty for both us.
Finally made it to Vern's after hearing all the hype for years, and honestly it was just fine. The pasta was not anything special but it wasn't bad either. Service was fine, but they do not take reservations so you really have to get there early. It's a cute place but there's definitely better & cheaper options around town!
Tomato pie, spicy lettuces (forgot to take a pic before scooping on to my plate), the miso and chili Alfredo, the Gus pizza, and the Arincini which was a special tonight. Aside from the Arincini which were good but nothing special everything blew me away. The pizza was especially good. I've never had asparagus on pizza but it was so good and contributed well with the other ingredients. The miso in the pasta played well off the sharpness of the Parmesan and then the chili finished it off to give a very deep flavor. The tomato pie was so fluffy and flavorful and the spicy lettuces were just lightly dressed enough to give a nice simple flavor but keep the greens crisp and refreshing. Our server was wonderful too. Obviously, a very high level of attention to detail at every aspect of this restaurant. Highly recommended but get there early since they don't take reservations!
Sat at bar. Very friendly very attentive. Very small area. The espresso martini was amazing and the hot honey pizza delicious. Love that they have outdoor seating as well. Only complaint that I don't think the bartenders should let people save seats for as long as they did when it's busy happy hour. Lady told us she was saving 2 chairs then when her guest got there about 20 minutes later they ordered a drink and transferred tab to a table Either way we will be back
First time at Vern's! Beautiful atmosphere and easy to park and find the restaurant. I came with a party 2 and we were able to get seated within 30 min, which was nice. Honestly, nothing about the menu blew me away except for the lost meatball ragu at first glance. Both my friend and I decided that that was the only pasta we wanted to try. We settled on the focaccia special, meatball ragu, and chopped salad to share. The focaccia was underwhelming and really the only thing that stood out during the meal was the lost meatball ragu - we loved it. Wonderful flavor and great portion for two and even three people. I'm not sure I'd come back if I was in Rochester. I'm curious if they rotate the menu items based on season or if these have been the same since opening. Maybe it's time for an update.
Awesome place. Always custom unique menu items. I'm going to take a risk and keep this review short because I've NEVER had a bad experience here. Food is SO delicious.m, flavorful, and thoughtfully created. I leave satisfied. Sat at the bar and the bar tenders are SO personable and friendly.
By far best restaurant by the notorious Swan family. Rotating seasonal menus are pretty good, but can't go wrong with the classic rigatoni pasta or bee sting pizza. Broken buratta is also really good, and what it comes with changes per season. Most dishes can be tweaked for vegetarians and they also have a few gluten free options. Portion sizes vary greatly, so I reccomend asking your server what they think is best for your party size. Inside ambiance is wonderful but limited seating like all other Swan restaurants. I reccomend coming early, putting your name down, and grabbing a drink at the bar while you wait since they do not take reservations. I have never been disappointed with the food or the service here, overall a great place to take a date or a friend from out of town!
This was our first time at Vern's and it certainly won't be the last! The food comes family style, which is great for sharing and trying new things! We got the lost meatball Ragu, roasted carrots and parsnips, and Vern's chopped salad. The pasta was extremely flavorful and was perfectly complimented by the fresh ricotta on top. This light and refreshing chopped salad. The carrots were nearly life changing- they were roasted to perfection and served with this fabulous Lebneh sauce. This is a must get. The ambiance was perfect! Everything from the decor to the lighting created a warm and welcoming feel. Our server Christine was great, explaining everything thoroughly, and helping us make our decisions! We went on a Thursday at 5:00 and didn't wait a minute for our table! Can't wait to go again!
I had a late dinner at the bar on a Monday night. The venue was busy, but no longer crowded, at 8 o'clock. Happily for me, the kitchen was open until 9pm. I ordered the spicy lettuces salad and tomato pie. Wow, was I impressed. What an excellent experience! Vern's, in sum: Amazing atmosphere, thoughtful menu, great all natural wine list, friendly and engaged service, clear focus on high quality ingredients, and nearly flawless execution by the chefs and bartenders. Shoutout to bartender Kinsey who was amazing! Overall exceptional experience, add I highly recommend this place. I'll certainly be back!
I've heard so many good things about Vern's and I can say it lives up to the hype. The ambiance is very cute and while it is upscaled, it doesn't feel stiff. It is a smaller establishment which means there can be a wait for a table, but the smaller venue makes the the environment is very cozy and comfortable. Once you get a table, service and food is quicker. The service is exceptional, everyone is very accommodating and friendly. The drinks were very good (my Aperol spritz was amazing) and the food was delicious. The bee sting pizza was the best pizza I have had. The restaurant is reasonably priced for the quality and service.

Returned to Rochester and returning to Vern's was a must! Everything was so delicious. The bee sting pizza tasted even better than last time. Our server was awesome. Vern's does not take reservations, so we waited about 20 minutes to be seated, but it worked out since we were waiting for two of our party of six. Had the bartender "wing" my drink and the spicy marg was no joke! Super spicy and exactly what I was looking for. Looking forward to my next trip to Rochester. read more
I've been eating at Vern's since they opened and have sampled their pizzas, desserts, craft cocktails, wood fired meats, pastas and specials. I have yet to be disappointed, and the more I go, the higher they rise on my list of favorite spots in Rochester. The only thing that can be tough is that Vern's is widely popular, and that means, unless you are able to get there the minute doors open, you will probably have to wait to be seated. Any day of the week. Weekends are worst. I have waited up to 1 hr 20 min to get a table for 3, which, for a place that doesn't take reservations, seems a little excessive, especially on a week night, but this makes my point. If you're lucky to grab a spot at the bar, you can eat there; you can also order cocktails while you wait, but waiting over an hour is pretty annoying. Despite that, I would say it is definitely worth the hype in terms of the food quality, balance, variety and finesse. Within the last few months, I've been there 4 times - once with a group of 6, once with a party in the back room, once with a group of 5 (where we arrived 15 min before close on a Mon night and ordered pizzas all around), and once with a group of 3. In each situation the food was excellent, service was excellent, and despite the wait we enjoyed our time there. I also appreciated that we were never rushed to finish up, pay and get out. I guess if you waited a long time to get in, the least they can do is let you keep the table as long as you want. The following food review goes with the attached photos and is for the visit where there were 3 of us on a Tues. We arrived at 6:30 pm and were told the wait time would be 45 min. No problem as we expected that, and were able to get cocktails. Three drinks a piece into the wait, we were finally seated at the 1 hour 10 min mark. During the wait we had had plenty of time to decide what we wanted and as soon as we were seated we put in our order: the broken buratta with roasted carrots (a great combination and the starch from the carrots was so good we didn't even think of bread), the spicy lettuces salad (a super umami toasted-sesame-forward tahini caesar dressing over a variety of spicy lettuces like radicchio and arugula with grated parm on top - an unlikely but delicious combo), the broccolini (cooked on the wood grill and served with parm and fried chilies) and the iberico pork strip loin (grilled to perfection and served with caramelized cipollini onions). The food comes out of the kitchen as it's ready, and all 3 of us shared. We were all satisfied, not too full, and at the end decided to get the tiramisu (decadent, rich, creamy and a large portion) and the olive oil cake (covered in a super sweet citrus marmalade and bergamot cream) for dessert. A few additional notes: -- Vern's is on Park Ave, which means street parking...at least in this part of the city street parking is still free, but if you park on a side street pay attention to the alternate-side parking signs. We met a friend who had driven over and parked on the nearest side street, thought they parked on the correct side of the street (but were confused because it was between 6:30 and 7 pm when cars are on both sides...) and got back to their car after dinner to find a ticket for $115. That's a pretty expensive meal. -- The entry area to Vern's is pretty small, so during winter, waiting outside may be cold - however, they will take your name and number and text you as soon as a table is ready, so you can get a drink at another restaurant on the street and/or sit in your car -- They have nightly specials - make sure you hear those before you order! -- Anticipate the wait and have a snack before you head over (unless you are getting there right when doors open)....the wood grill makes it smell DELICIOUS in there, and let me just say, as a person who has waited over an hour for a seat, the aroma of that grill is torture. Go to Vern's! Yes, it's busy and you'll wait, but it is definitely one of the best meals you can have in Rochester. read more

What a fun experience! One of the local favorites, I went here for a weeknight birthday celebration with a group of girls. We had a great time with food, drink, and lots of sharing. We had reservations a few days in advance for a party of 6 and had to wait until at least 5 of us were present and we still waited about 15 or 20 minutes. But no worries, we appreciated the energy of the place. We sat upstairs and indoors, had some lovely shared plates of rigatoni ricotta pasta, grilled chicken thigh, baked chicken thigh special of the day, bee sting pizza, and roasted garlic bread. Everything came as it was made, so it was just a fun time to be spending with each other and nibbling on yummy food as we went along. Everything was super tasty and flavorful. The garlic bread had some good bread and tons of garlic is always appreciated. Both chicken dishes were moist and different in their own way. We got the house rigatoni with ricotta because the special of the day cloud noodi was out, but I appreciated the meat in the pasta dish. The bee sting pizza was also tasty, nice cripsy crust. For drinks we had multiple fluffy gray hounds around and I had a "wing it" with mezcal base, ended up with a fun "Last Word" variation. We also got to try and appreciate some complementary birthday celebrations of chocolate cake and blueberry lemon cake, both delicious and not overly sweet. Overall a super fun dining experience with tasty food, fun drinks, and warm hospitality. The place itself is also pretty interesting with tables inside, outside, upstairs, downstairs. The only thing I will comment is that it is pretty loud since the tables are close together and the spaces are small, but it worked out and fun nonetheless. read more
Each meal at Vern's is always a fun surprise. Aside of plenty of wonderful items on their menu, like the Broken Burrata and Pizzas, they always have several of the most amazing specials. Tonight was no exception with special Cucumber Melon Salad and their take on Cioppino. Food is artful and creative, but not pretentious. Portions are just the right size that we can order a few appetizers and dishes to share. Service is attentive and items exit the kitchen when they are ready, which has on occasion left a diner in our party waiting a bit. That said, we've adjusted our ordering and intend to share things. This makes everyone happy and let's us explore the menu. Make sure to leave room for dessert, especially if they have an olive oil cake or panna cotta on the menu. It's always the perfect end to a great meal. If you intend to eat outside, plan to arrive early, as with other restaurants on Park Ave., they tend to fill quickly. Tables under the large umbrellas are lovely. It's a great place to people watch during a leisurely meal. read more

So I finally got back to this great little spot in the late Summer. I met my friend and fellow Yelper Nicole M for dinner. FYI no reservations and you just gotta deal with it. We sat at the bar.. it's not an issue for me and it's great people watching and the mixologists are doing their thing. The wine list "mostly natty's" was put together by the man who owns Aldakeller and it's a great list. Wines by the bottle price wise are not bad and it's a better way to go. Yes the craft made drinks are also stellar. We got some apps the clams were tasty with a nice broth/sauce you could dip your bread into and the Bee Stung Pizza (this has to be one of the best in the city.) We also got dessert a flourless chocolate cake. Service is friendly and efficient but this place even on a Wednesday early evening is full tilt. I FINALLY got to go and see this place in the daytime as every time I came it was nighttime. It's worth the visit. Just go they know what they are doing. Street parking or Uber/Lyft Cheers! read more
Wow wow wow! Came here for date night on Tuesday night. Early enough that we didn't need a reservation. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. Excellent service from everyone. Waitress was nice also she was attentive. The food was delicious! Pizza was cooked to perfection, the salad was yummy... nice and citrusy. Overall the food was amazing, service and even drinks were great! Definitely recommend this place, we will be back soon read more
Really fresh flavorful food - the salad we ordered and margharita pizza were delicious! However the wait time once we were seated and ordered was over 40 min long (and this was on a Wednesday evening). In general it can get really packed but staff was attentive and kind. As an Fyi- there was really only a couple items that were gluten free; they did not have gf alternatives for the pasta/bread dishes. Parking is street only- pay attention to signs and when each side of the residential street has to be cleared! read more
Went on a Saturday night and waited about 30 minutes for a table for 4. Got the lost meatball ragu, corn pizza, and garlic bread. Everything was amazing! In my opinion the pizzas were a bit more unique than the pastas but it's personal preference and some people in my party felt differently. Prices are fair, staff are nice, and the place is clean. Not a ton of gluten free options. Vern's is a cute place right in park ave (expect to find street parking somewhere else and walk). The menu and dishes are supposed to be shared, but will require some work to cut up and divide with your friends. We ordered the pork belly, stone fruit salad, clams, polenta, pizza, and focaccia. Pizza and focaccia not gluten free, but the other items were. The dishes come out when they are ready (super tiny kitchen) which gives this a surprise timing. The staff were friendly and mostly helpful. I was disappointed by many of the dishes. They lacked a certain level of flavor and were awkward to share since I had to cut and divide everything. We had a party of 5 and enjoyed the outdoor dining. Not a bad experience just not the best food around. read more
Amazing service. From the hostess, to the bartender, and then to my server. I can't remember the last time I had service so good. I love the wallpaper inside, beautiful place. We sat outside, they like people to order together and share plates. The little necks and fried zucchini was amazing. We also shared pasta and the pizza was unreal! They have a beautiful and underrated selection of natural wines. Which is hard to fine. Also thank you for the Aperol spritz, I'm postpartum, and have been craving one for weeks! We're from Texas and come to stay in Fairport every summer...yes we are reverse snowbirds. We discovered this place last year and fell in love with it during the three times we visited during our stay. This year it was one of our first stops and it didn't disappoint! We got there right at four when they opened and easily got a seat at the bar. Someone else mentioned in their review that the bar was not the best option? I wholeheartedly disagree, not only did we get amazing service at the bar, but we enjoyed talking with the bartenders and the other patrons as well. Vern's has a great menu, but during our last three visits, the specials sounded so good and we went with them. This time I was determined to try the Lost Meatball, and I'm glad I did! All the reviews are spot on...it was a tremendous dish! The flavors are so rich and I love the butteriness of the sauce, the yummy chunks of meatballs, and the seasoned ricotta on top. I swear just typing that made me look at my watch to see what time it was, and now I'm thinking, "Hmmm, they open at 4pm. I have time to shower!" My husband went with the lamb special they had and not only was the dish out of this world, the portion was huge and I had his leftovers for lunch the next day. We always get their Burrata special...this year it was just as wonderful as last year's offering. Their cocktails are so good, fresh and creative. I love their "wing it" option and they always nail a perfect drink for me! The atmosphere cannot be beat, love the decor and the feel of the place. Located on Park Avenue, this is a nice swanky place in Rochester. The ambience is a winner here and I really enjoyed the food. We tried the roasted garlic, bee sting pizza, margherita pizza, and lost meatball ragu as well as some drinks. Dishes are meant to be shared which is fun. The roasted garlic came with a generous mound of butter, which was tasty and indulgent. The bee sting was the tastier of the two pizza's (but not as good as a similar counterpart in Syracuse). I also enjoyed the lost meatball ragu, it was hearty, filling and the pasta was al dente. The drink I tried was the fluffy greyhound. Though the drink was pretty, I personally felt that the drink brought out the bitterness of the grapefruit which was a bit much for me. Overall, a nice place to go for a night out. Things do get pretty pricey here (around $55 pp after tax and tip was my experience) so it's not an every day thing. read more

Verns is probably one of my top 5 spots in Rochester. It's perfect for a date night or a special night catching up with friends. The staff is very professional and they know the menu well. So any questions you have, fire away. They move quick but aren't annoying. We all know how that can be I love the pizza and the tomato pie. The cocktails are delicious and you can tell they put a lot of thought into their cocktail program. read more

I've been wanting to try Verns for a long time. It is never easy cause they don't take reservations and there's always about an hour wait, which is why we decided to sit at the bar (which honestly wasn't the best option - I wouldn't recommend). The food itself was good, but I have tried way better Italian places. Pasta were very salty, and the pizzas were insanely greasy - mine was literally bathing in olive oil. Cocktails were good, but not exceptional. Altogether, I am not sure if I would go again. Maybe when they change their menu, who knows? read more
Food and drinks do not disappoint. My meat ragu was flavorful, and the pasta was cooked to just right. The special watermelon feta salad seemed pre-mixed because the arugula leaves were quite limpy likely due to sitting dressed for a long time. It's the oil that's causing it, not the vinegar. On a Saturday night around 8:00 it was packed and super loud inside. Hard to make a conversation so choose wisely. read more

Six of us came to eat dinner and all of us loved it! Our waitress was excellent and the staff was friendly. The food is unique and delicious. We ordered the purple pizza and the white and loved them both. This is a trendy and popular place but they seated us quickly. I highly recommend eating! read more

What an amazing gastronomic treat in Rochester. Vern's entire menu is outright outstanding. The salads were fresh and delicious. The roasted garlic toast is addictive as are the pizzas. The spicy linguine, broccolini and the Wygu steak hit the spot! The olive cake was so good we got another to go. Vern's is a gem. read more

Finally got to try Vern's! I picked up a to go order for dinner and it was ready after only about 15 minutes. I got the Tomato Pie and Lost Ragu. Both dishes are simple in that they have few ingredients but they are anything but basic. The Tomato Pie was perfect. The dough was thick with a crispy crust and soft interior. The sauce was balanced with sweet and tangy and overall it made for a great snack. The Lost Ragu was a very large portion (enough for two meals for me). I loved the flavor of the meat sauce and pepper and the ricotta. Very filling and so delicious! read more

We really enjoy our time at Vern's. We love the ambiance and energy of this place - and the food is mostly good. After about a 30 minute wait, we were finally seated. The hosted led us to the back of the restaurant to a room that reminded us of a greenhouse. It was really nice space. Our server was welcoming and really took care of us, which made the entire experience wonderful. The food was mostly good. My wife had the Lost Meatball Ragu and I had the Margherita Pizza. The pasta was really good, so I highly recommend! The pizza on the other hand was just ok. The crust was overdone and the sauce was rather dry. Vern's is worth a visit. It's a great place for date night or dinner out with friends. read more

I checked out Vern's about 4 months ago when it had just opened. I was sad to see Esan go, but excited about the new Italian-inspired restaurant opened by the Swan family. To be honest, the experience is a bit fuzzy, but I remember being impressed overall. The interior was cozy but intimate and trendy. We were seated in the patio in the back, which was a good use of space. However, I can only imagine how small the restaurant gets during the winter. The service was friendly and prompt. The food came out surprisingly fast (nothing to complain about). The food was solid. We ordered a bunch of things to share: Green Bean Salad with Ricotta & Tomatoes, Red Pizza, Lost Meatball Ragu & Blueberry Lavender Pie. The green bean salad was refreshing with a good contrast of textures with the crunchiness of the green beans pairing well with the soft and juicy tomatoes. The addition of lemon juice and feta cheese also brought the dish together. The Red Pizza was good. It was a little thicker than i'm used to, so not exactly Neapolitan-style, but I liked the fact that it wasn't bogged down by toppings. I still prefer the pizza at Fiamma and Fiorella though. The Lost Meatball Ragu was yummy. It's a must-try dish if you love ricotta. It combines shell pasta with tangy tomato sauce and small morsels of meat. Strangely enough, I think our favorite dish was the Lavender Blueberry Pie dessert. It was most likely a limited time item, but damn, that was some good pie. The portions were extremely generous and the pricing was quite reasonable. 1 salad, 2 entrées, 1 dessert and 1 cocktail cost us about $60 before tip and tax, which is extremely reasonable. This is the reason I have never been here before this time. Overall great experience. We shared a pizza and the alfredo dish. Both were very good! Fun and (relatively) new place in Rochester on Park Ave. Their food all comes from family recipes and they try to be authentic to real Italian cuisine. This is not the place to find chicken parm or plates piled high with pasta, and that suited me fine. Like most place on Park Ave, seating is quite tight, and the place looks like it was a renovated home, but they use the space well. We ordered their Broken Burrata, Bee Sting Pizza, and the Mafaldine, along with their sunchoke special. The sunchokes may have been my favorite. I have made them at home, but never seen them served at a restaurant, so I was pretty excited about them. They were roasted well and came with a delicious dipping sauce. If you haven't tried them - sunchokes taste a little like potatoes or parsnips and come with great health benefits, including a ton of fiber. The Broken Burrata was delicious with the "eggplant dumplings", which were sort of like fried eggplant meat(less)balls. The Bee Sting Pizza was delicious and hot honey-forward, which I love. The Mafaldine was good, and is another thing you rarely see at restaurants, but I was disappointed that it had so little sauce. Barely coating the noodles in sauce is a more authentic Italian way to do things, I know, but because there wasn't enough of the cream sauce to impart flavor, it came off a little bland. My only other gripe is that the seats were a little uncomfortable. Otherwise, everything was great - service was on top of things despite them being packed, and their wine selections were quite nice and unique. read more

Is there a happy hour?
I messaged the business on Instagram a few weeks ago, and they haven't responded. SO! Does anyone know if they're accommodating to vegans? Does their pizza crust have dairy or butter? Thanks!
No dairy in the pizza crust. I think the tomato pie is vegan, and there are some yummy salads that are vegan or cheese could be left off of.
