Very sad to say that our first visit to the new location will likely be our last... And we LOVE the original Mama G's in Henrietta. First, the good. The server and the staff were all pleasant and efficient and the ambiance is fantastic. Immaculate and upscale without the ridiculous prices that one might expect in Pittsford Plaza. The bad... They managed to mess up chicken parm. Two large cutlets, sadly stacked on top of each other so the bottom one was soggy. There was minimal sauce and virtually no cheese on the bottom cutlet and a frustratingly small dab of sauce and cheese on the top one. My vegetarian wife had eggplant and zucchini parm... No breading and so soaked in sauce that the veggies were mush. Inedible. The server was very nice about it and the restaurant made it right with us but I can't imagine wanting to return. We sincerely like the Mama G's brand and hope that other guests have better experiences. read more

First timer here, it was calm, quiet, and in a way hole in the wall kind of location. It wasn't busy at all when we came in during lunch but the service was a little slow, but i was patient. Service was good overall besides just how slow it was, they were doing take out orders at the same time and it was just two ladies doing it all. Food was good, tasted fresh, good portion size, and we got bread to start out at the table. The food did take a little while to get to us but bc they make it fresh. Overall good experience I'd recommend. If you're an impatient person and expect to be in and out then I'd recommend somewhere else but come eat some food read more

I recently visited Mamma G's for a mother-daughter lunch with my daughter. The restaurant itself has a very elegant, cozy atmosphere that made for a lovely setting. I ordered the pasta and shrimp special, which was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. Unfortunately, my daughter is vegetarian and ordered the Gnocchi Rossi, which was quite disappointing. It lacked flavor and was very bland compared to my meal. The biggest downside of our visit was the service. We were trying to enjoy some quality mother-daughter time together, but our waitress interrupted us constantly--almost every time we took a bite. We repeatedly assured her that everything was fine, yet she continued coming back to the table. At one point, while we were still actively eating, she asked if we were ready for boxes. When I said no, she replied, "Oh, okay, you're just taking your time." It definitely felt like we were being rushed rather than encouraged to relax and enjoy our meal. To top it off, we were never offered dessert or after-meal options. Despite feeling a bit rushed and annoyed by the constant interruptions, we still left a good tip because the waitress was working hard and remained polite. Service was extremely slow and inattentive. Waited 15 minutes past reservation to be seated, Wine didn't get to table until 40 minutes after reservation, food was an hour after reservation time. Side salads and Caesar salad were made with arugula,which the server apologized for as she put them on the table but offered no explanation or alternative. Caesar made with arugula? They should have asked if that was ok rather than just substituting. Would have cancelled the Caesar. Once they finally arrived the entrees were very good, though our daughter's pizza arrived so far ahead of our entrees she was finished before we had our dinners. Once again stopped by and it did not disappoint. In true Italian fashion you sit down in within seconds a basket of bread is in front of you. Service was wonderful, so friendly and attentive. The menu has variety and loved all the options which is the most difficult thing at this place... selecting your entree. Went to the Monroe Ave location today to stop in for a gift card. The place was so busy! What a wonderful thing!! Everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. The ambiance was casual with a sophisticated and dim lit atmosphere. There are plenty of tables and a full service bar. The servers seemed to be hustling! What's even better than a Mamma G dinner? It's their lunch! We arrived without reservations on a busy Friday, but were greeted cordially and seated shortly. Our server, although very busy, greeted us and said he'd be over soon. We both started with a glass of wine and house salad. Entrees were saltimbocca and chicken parm, both delicious. The highlight of the meal was a puff pastry filled with berries and cheese and topped with whipped cream. Amazing. The outstanding thing about Mamma G's is that every employee makes you feel welcome from the time you step in the door. read more

Went to the newly reopened Henrietta location. First and foremost the online menu has not been updated to reflect changes. Many items including chicken/ veal French no longer offered but they will make it on request. Wine list is pared down; many items eliminated or replaced and prices that used to be 7-8$$ are now $10-$12. We were seated with our reservation by the lovely young lady at the front. Layout is the same; carpet and blinds replaced and booths reupholstered ( but the seats underneath are still wonky). It was 45 minutes before we even got our salads and that was only after we asked the waitress if we were ever getting our food. The bread is no longer the wonderful bread they had. It was huge thick slices; heavy texture and doughy inside; very dark crusty outside and CHEWY. We then waited another 40 minutes for our entrees. My husband had the usual..crepe lasagna; portion was much smaller than it used to be but was delicious however still in the same size plate swimming in extra extra sauce to fill the space. They did make me chicken French; delicious as usual. My husband wanted to leave before the entrees arrived because it was SO slow. We had pre requested dessert when we arrived knowing the run out. She had set aside in a to go container so we elected to take it to go. Berry lobster tail; very good! The young lady who seated us did come over and ask for our feedback( I assume she was the manager!). The young man seated next to us had the same issue and his appetizer finally arrived the same time his food did... he requested they park it under a heat lamp until he finished with his appetizer. Clearly they have issues to iron out! We'll give it a couple months! Food was the same good quality; they need to review the bread issue! The young lady managing is a keeper ! I'm beyond thrilled I drove all the way from Jamestown to try them. Reservations were the right way to go because it was very busy during Saturday dinner rush. The owner and waitress were incredibly friendly. The place was spotlessly clean. The service was very fast and nice. The food was absolutely the best I've ever had in Rochester! Hands down the best spaghetti and meatballs. The spaghetti noodles are made fresh, the bread was warm and fresh, the chicken soup was great, the tiramisu was perfect, the red sauce was absolutely AMAZING, and so were their big moist meatballs. Mamma G's was pretty good overall! The service was excellent and the ambiance was fun (the restaurant used to be a Friendly's). We ordered a lot of food. The free bread was just okay. It tasted like pretty plain white bread from the grocery store. Granted it was free, so I'm not trying to complain, but my suggestion would be to fresh bake a focaccia or something more flavorful and substantial. For appetizers we got beans and greens, and arancini. The beans and greens were excellent! I'd never had that before but I loved it. The arancini was just okay. It tasted pretty bland but the red sauce helped! I got chicken Parmesan and for $20 it was enough for two people. It was so delicious too - perfectly crispy and the sauce was great. We didn't try any drinks or desserts but I've heard good things so I'd definitely go back. Overall a great spot and a place I'd return to! read more

I visited Mamma G's during my visit to Roc last week; my partner grew up in the area and had told me that Mamma G's is a favorite among locals. We made a reservation for an early dinner, and her mother joined us. I checked the menu online and my curiosity was piqued when I read that the owner's family is from Abruzzo. I lived in Italy in my twenties, and my boyfriend at the time was from Abruzzo, so I was somewhat familiar with the traditional recipes from the region. It's not every day you see pallotte cacio e uova (pronounced "pallotte casc'uov" by my ex's late Nonna Maria, who earnestly tried to teach me how to cook this dish despite my not knowing the Chietian dialect and her not being fluent in Italian) on the menu. But I digress. We ordered the following: pallotte cacio e uova, pennette al maialino piccante, insalata caprese, timballo abruzzese, and ravioli al salmone. DELICIOUS. The pallotte cacio e uova brought me back in time; it was just like I remembered it. My partner and her mother said their dishes were also quite tasty. (Also, the leftovers were epic!). The staff was friendly and kind (and busy! No wonder reservations are recommended), and I would absolutely come back here the next time I'm in town. read more

Went to the new Pittsford location for lunch on a Thursday. The place is BUSY! We did not have a reservation so had to sit at the bar. They are still getting things worked out at this new location so service was a little rough. They did not bring bread so we had to ask for it. Eggplant Parm was excellent, and conversation at the bar was pleasant. We will go again for sure, but be advised, you must make a reservation! read more

4 couples (friends for years) went out for dinner at Mamma G's- my first time here. The experience was perfect- nice friendly service, great food and a relaxed atmosphere. Not to mention reasonable prices and decent sized portions. I got the Pork Loin Marsala with Prosciutto- they call it Saltimbocca. Excellent preparation and tasty- with a side of homemade pasta. There was a salad or soup first- I had the salad and it was very good too. Everyone enjoyed their meals. See the pics. They have all the classic Italian dinners- the Parms and Frenches- along with some interesting dishes on the menu like mine. We got one dessert to split for a few of us. The food is incredible! The service is amazing and fast! They have generous portions and super fair prices. Ordered to go and they took extra care with packaging everything: Meatballs, kids pasta (homemade spaghetti), spinach side, lasagna, saltimbocca romana and bread. Our son gobbled up the entire pasta and half the spinach (which was huge!). The bread reminds me of my grandmothers homemade bread. You can tell the authenticity Ava care that went into the lasagna and saltimbocca. I'm feeling extra grateful with this meal and will return for sure! read more

Growing Pains? We had a 6pm reservation for 7 people. The antiquated paper reservation system they use takes forever to look up. They were so backed the table reserved for us had just received their food. Do we want to wait 45 minutes or get stuffed into a booth. We took the booth at 6:15. Appetizers never arrived. Salads arrived at 7:15 and our meals were delivered at 7:30. The last corrected meal came at 7:40. People that arrived after us had already left. Food is average Italian. We expected a total renovation inside, looks like they just painted. We were told they still planned on opening the original location once the landlord fixed a leaking roof. My husband and I visited the restaurant on a Sunday around noon. We had an enjoyable lunch with areas that could definitely use improvement. The dining room was clean and we received bread at the table upon being seated. It was disappointing to be given lunch menus by the host only to discover that lunch wasn't being served that day. Nai replaced our lunch menus with dinner menus, where all items had on average a $3 up charge. It would have been helpful for the host to confirm the service style for the day to avoid any confusion. The omission of basil on our caprese salad was a key ingredient that contributes to the dish's flavor profile. Romaine lettuce, while providing a pop of green color on the plate, simply is no substitute for flavor. (we weren't aware of the basil being unavailable until the dish was presented) Our Bean and Egg Drop soups were tasty and served at a proper hot temperature. While it's nice to have cheese added to a dish, balance is essential to ensure that it doesn't overwhelm the dish. The gnocchi were suffocated under a pile of melted mozzarella. We found humor in the portion of sausage added to the angel hair pasta meatballs! As for the tiramisu, we would prefer a smoother texture without the crunchy chocolate chips, as traditional tiramisu typically doesn't include them. Our server, Nai, was fun and informative, and she really enhanced the dining experience. We would give Mamma G's another try based on her warm personality and joyful attitude. read more
