We went to Vern's on Monday night for their Fried Chicken Dinner. We ate on the patio, under a large Cottonwood tree. The chicken dinner consisted of one half of a fried chicken, mashed potato's and gravy. We received corn and a baking powder biscuit which was excellent. We had fried pickles as an appetizer. Our meal was more than my wife and I could eat so we had lunch the next day. It is impossible to get a good fried chicken meal anymore in our area and the greasy KFC does not remind me of my Grandma's Sunday Chicken Dinners. Mother's Day morning. We got here and there was a wait, as was expected. Got my name on the list so they could text me when our table was available. After a short wait, it was time. This is a favorite breakfast place amongst our family. I chose it as where I wanted to go. My husband ordered a cinnamon roll for the table for us to start. I got my coffee. Caffeination is crucial for mom. For breakfast, my daughter chose the smothered tamales that came with eggs which she got scrambled, toast and hashbrowns. She enjoyed the tamales which were complimented by the green chili. My husband stepped out of his comfort zone and tried the chicken fried chicken with eggs. He asked for rye toast and got his eggs over medium. I think he found a new favorite. The chicken was tender inside the crunchy exterior and the gravy brought it all together. I went classic and chose the eggs benedict. Ham, poached eggs, hollandaise all on a toasted English muffin was the perfect choice for me. It came with hashbrowns. I had 2 braised eggs and sourdough toast plus a pancake. I liked the crispy edges on the pan cake. The cinnamon rolls looked amazing! We used to come to Vern's one or twice a week for the country fried steak with sausage gravy, eggs and hash browns- it was perfect. Now, for some reason the gravy has changed and not for the better. It's not bad.... but it's not as good as the sausage milk gravy they used to have. Please bring the old gravy back!!! We miss our breakfast tradition. We hopped on our bikes and headed up the Poudre Trail toward the Foothills, knowing exactly where we'd stop for breakfast--Vern's Place. The ride itself is something special. Just six miles and about 30 minutes from the heart of Old Town, the trail winds alongside the river, offering peaceful views and the relaxing sound of flowing water. Once you pass Shields Street, the landscape opens up to breathtaking views of the Foothills, a stunning backdrop that stays with you all the way to Vern's. Vern's is one of those places where you come for the food, but you stay for the atmosphere and the views. As soon as we arrived, we asked to sit on the patio, and we were seated right away. From there, the view of the Foothills was nothing short of spectacular--a perfect setting to enjoy the kind of warm, hearty meal that Vern's is known for. Okay, can we get Verns in San Diego? I had such a great breakfast here. I don't usually eat biscuits and gravy but when it has green chili sauce I'm sold. I love green chili everything and this is no exception. There were four of us and we all loved what we got. Two were locals and 2 were visiting. Service was very good. Ordered the much-touted fried chicken since so many have been talking about it. When my dinner arrived the first thing I noticed was that the chicken was rather dark. One piece appeared very unappealing since it was placed bones side up. The wing was dark and crunchy rather than golden brown and crispy. The thigh and breast were the same. The leg was the only piece not over cooked. The flavor was rather ordinary. Instead of the mashed potatoes I had fries, which were very tasty. A cup of thick, lumpy, salty gravy and a dried flavorless biscuit filled out the plate. Definitely not a meal to go out of your way for. read more

Quick run in right before we went rafting and the pastries are absolutely to die for. At first glance, you think of the cinnamon roll is going to be hard and stay open after they warm it up it is fluffy like a cloud. Verns is decent quality all American food. The burgers are good. The fries are better and the ranch is worth tasting. Everything that we've had at Vern's, and we've eaten here multiple times, has been satisfying. The service is always great and when it's warm enough to sit on the patio, It's lovely. Wheelchair accessibility: Verns wheelchair accessibility is usually pretty good. There's a zero entry door and a ramp to the patio. Sometimes it's a little hard to navigate in between the tables and the bathroom is a little bit small. There's only two accessible parking spots and they're not clearly marked, and so are often filled with cars without hangtags/disability parking placards. In general, though Vern's is worth a stop if you're in Laporte and hungry, you'll be greeted with a smile and have a good meal. read more

Wife and I had breakfast here a few weeks ago. She had the breakfast tamale. It was spectacular. The meat to masa ratio was perfect and the meat was full of flavor. I wish I had gotten it. My breakfast was good though & the bacon was phenomenal! Great people that work here too! Super friendly and attentive to everything you need. I used to consider Verns cinnamon roles in the top 2 around here. Seems they took the horrible recipe from Silver Grill. They should have gone the other way and used Verns at the silver grill. Fresh cinnamon roles from verns are now horrible and I will never order again. They are dry, mostly bread, barely any cinnamon and sickly sweet icing. Even adding butter and heating does not help. What a shame the destroyed one if the best cinnamon roles in town. The last order of biscuits and gravy I couldn't eat either, there was way too much pepper on it, not creamy and delicious like before new owners took over. read more

My wife and I went to Vern's twice during our honeymoon. Their service was fantastic! They were very friendly. Before I mention food, please try the chile verde hot sauce they leave on the table. I had my first breakfast here yesterday after patronizing for mainly dinner and on occasion a lunch for years. I saw a review that claimed this reviewer had "the best biscuits and gravy in my entire life" recently there...so being one who enjoys a good biscuits and gravy dish I had to try it. I went with the B&G Delux which was two big biscuits and gravy, two eggs, hash browns and choice of breakfast meat. I ordered my eggs scrambled and sausage. My coffee cup was never empty my entire visit until I declined refills. My entree came out and was I I impressed!!!! Two big, soft and pillowy biscuits flooded with sausage gravy, a healthy pile of buttery scrambled eggs, hash browns that were delightfully crispy on the outside and a large pork sausage patty filled the plate. The biscuits and gravy really is among the very best I have ever had!!! The biscuits have the slightest hint of sweetness and the gravy has a rich flavor with a peppery finish... both absolutely delicious and just WOW together!! The eggs were smooth and properly cooked (not runny), absolutely delicious; the has browns were a medium brown and crispy on the outside and buttery smooth on the inside and the sausage was delightful and very flavorful. Service was impeccable despite the dining area of being nearly full with only one or two tables left open and everyone very busy. Breakfast at Vern's will become a more regular affair with me for sure!!!! read more

My family bikes to Vern's 1-2 a year. After a long bike ride we want a substantial meal & we love sitting out on the patio to enjoy it. For friendliness and ambiance, Verb's does a great job. For me, I'm just not a huge fan on the food. It's good, but not above average. The omelets aren't as flavorful as other breakfast joints offer. Also, we asked for hash browns "extra crispy". Our server said she'd try. They arrived very typical hash browns, which was disappointing. Little effort seems to have been made by kitchen staff to honor the extra crispy request. Overall, I'll still continue to bike here when I want a long bike ride + breakfast, but the food hasn't wowed me yet. read more

Unbelievable Cinnamon rolls...they are literally the size of a dinner plate...and the icing--oh my goodness, amazing! It's always a treat to drive up from Littleton to Vern's, and the cafe never disappoints. My friend and I took the pic with the payphone a few years back and wanted to reenact it, but unfortunately, the phone had fallen by the wayside; the good news was the cinnamon rolls are still out of this world! Vern's has been a staple in the Fort Collins and Bellevue and LaPorte area since I was a child. Vern's is an institution. Can you even say you've been to Northern Colorado if you haven't eaten at Vern's? There isn't a bad thing on the menu. It's definitely a local's favorite. The views are excellent. The patio is a great place tomorrow hang after coming off the Poudre. Here are my favorite dishes. Breakfast is the Laporte Skillet, lunch is the chicken fried chicken or steak. Dinner is Fried Chicken or Fush and Chips. Honorable mention to the weekend Prime Rib, the Reuben, the French Dip and the burger with green chile. It's all good! Extra points for having our best local beer on tap - Zwei Brewing Helles.
