We showed up 9 minutes before close..... we don't realize it. Everyone there was still friendly and welcoming. Food and service was great. Can't wait to come back during regular business hours and try the krautburger. Had the chicken fried steak. It was awesome!

Ignore these bunk a** comments. This place rules! So so so good! This is a ESTABLISHMENT that has been around for a long time. The food reflects that perfectly, local ingredients, local food, quick precise calculated service, with an ambiance similar to a country saloon! Could not recommend enough!! Go for the fried chicken, leave with the cinnamon roll! Will be returning ASAP!

I LOVE THIS PLACE! They have some of the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had!!!! And French toast!!!! I love that we were able to sit outside on the patio with the cool breeze and sun! I will definitely be back!

As winter loosens its grip on Fort Collins, days like today feel like a gift. With the sun shining and temperatures hovering in the high 50s, my wife and I couldn't resist the urge to get outside. We hopped on our bikes and headed up the Poudre Trail toward the Foothills, knowing exactly where we'd stop for breakfast--Vern's Place. The ride itself is something special. Just six miles and about 30 minutes from the heart of Old Town, the trail winds alongside the river, offering peaceful views and the relaxing sound of flowing water. Once you pass Shields Street, the landscape opens up to breathtaking views of the Foothills, a stunning backdrop that stays with you all the way to Vern's. Vern's is one of those places where you come for the food, but you stay for the atmosphere and the views. As soon as we arrived, we asked to sit on the patio, and we were seated right away. From there, the view of the Foothills was nothing short of spectacular--a perfect setting to enjoy the kind of warm, hearty meal that Vern's is known for. This morning, I went with the Deluxe Biscuits and Gravy, a plate piled high with two eggs, a choice of breakfast meat (I opted for the sausage patty), and biscuits smothered in rich, homemade gravy. If I said it tasted just like my grandma used to make, I'd be lying--because honestly, I don't think even grandma's biscuits and gravy were this good. My wife ordered the Chicken Club, and from the first bite, she was just as happy with her choice as I was with mine. The food was cooked perfectly, served hot and fresh, and the everything was spot on. Our server, Cameron, was friendly and attentive, adding to an already great experience. For those who don't know, Vern's Place has deep roots in the community. Currently owned since 2023 by Alan and Jackie Jantzen--the same folks behind the beloved Silver Grill Cafe in Old Town--Vern's has held onto its small-town charm while delivering consistently great food and service. As with The Silver Grill Cafe, Alan and Jackie have honored Vern's history while making sure every plate that comes out of the kitchen is something to remember. Of course, you don't need to bike to Vern's to enjoy it. Whether you're making a special trip, stopping by on your way up the Poudre Canyon, or just craving a comforting, homestyle meal, this place is well worth the visit. With great service, delicious food, and a view that reminds you why we love living in Colorado, Vern's Place is a true gem.

Okay, can we get Verns in San Diego? I had such a great breakfast here. I don't usually eat biscuits and gravy but when it has green chili sauce I'm sold. I love green chili everything and this is no exception. There were four of us and we all loved what we got. Two were locals and 2 were visiting. I wish I bought a plate sized cinnamon roll to eat the next day. If I ever am back in Colorado I will make the trek here it is that good!!

Quick run in right before we went rafting and the pastries are absolutely to die for. At first glance, you think of the cinnamon roll is going to be hard and stay open after they warm it up it is fluffy like a cloud. We also ordered the pecan roll and an apple fritter, which both were delicious .

I chose to enjoy a glass of Sparkling Rosé by Gruet out of New Mexico. Lovely. The decor is an interesting mix of things. Odds and ends that come together to be their vibe. They have lots of great plants throughout the building as well. Our food arrived and we enjoyed it thoroughly. I chose to get the shrimp and grits. I added on a side of their collard greens. Those were delicious. the shrimp was well seasoned and grilled on top of some lovely, cheesy poblano grits. Two basted eggs crowned grits with a crispy tortilla strip garnish. My friend gave me her slice of focaccia toast. That was hearty. Being that we were in a side room and no one else was seated at the immediate tables, it was easy to be forgotten. We had to flag down our server to get our check so we could head on our way. I do understand how hard it is when short staffed. Overall solid beverage choices and great food. The staff is very pleasant.

The portions here are generous without sacrificing quality and taste. The food is always flavorful and prepared as ordered. The beignets are served hot and fresh and heavily dusted with powdered sugar. The beignets are a must! My favorite dish to order is the cajun omelette with potatoes. The omelette comes with spicy sausage and diced ham in creole sauce. You have a choice of grits or potatoes. Pro tip: Add their creole seasoning to your meal for an added flavor kick. It also comes with a buttermilk biscuit with their homemade jam. The restaurant is very quaint and has a homey vibe. You'll find Mardi Gras beads and Creole posters/memorabilia throughout the restaurant reminding you of its roots and culture. Of course, I'd love for the space to be a little bigger, but for the most part, it's manageable. The space is small and it does get busy so expect a wait. Service is great also. Everyone is friendly and attentive. We asked for our beignets to be served after our meal and our server remembered. She refiled our coffee consistently and checked on us periodically. Definitely check out Lucile's if you've never tried it. Highly recommend!

Food came in stages for the table. So much so, some never got their food after waiting over an hour and another friend wound up taking her burger to go because those who got food were done by the time her burger showed up. Went again last night, chalking the previous experience up to a large party and "off" night for the Crown. Nope. Got a table, which took 15 minutes to clean from the previous party, ordered drinks, app and dinner. Drinks and app came within 10-15 minutes. Yay! We thought! Wrong!! We waited an hour and 20 minutes (after checking with the server several times) and still no food. We wound up getting up to pay for what we had, but even the server was like "you don't owe a thing." Literally, even she couldn't sugar coat the lousy experience. Wasn't her fault at all, and we felt bad she was dealing with the kitchen. Because of them, she lost a shit ton of money from our large tab (had it arrived) and the inability to flip the table for another party within a reasonable time. So, needless to say, we will never be going there again. We are also extremely tied into Fort Collins social community. We will have no problem at all sharing this poor night out. Again.
