I've had the pleasure to eat at Vern's twice recently. Both meals were delicious breakfast choices from an extensive menu. Substitutions due to food allergies were not a problem. The atmosphere is cozy home style, it is very popular the service was good. Didn't get a 5 star because both times the house coffee has been thin/weak/bland. :-/. First visit I tolerated it, the second time I had to order an Espresso ($3.00) to blend in to get a decent Cup'a Joe. I eat out often enough to know I will not order coffee here again. I was in last week with my mother who was visiting from Detroit. This is always one of her go to restaurants when she's is here, because they never disappoint. And our visit didn't disappoint!!! Our server Cameron was spot on with everything. Although he was helpful, friendly, and courteous, he wasn't overbaring. The food is always amazing. You just don't find good restaurants like this anymore. Great food, great prices, great view, and a fantastic server. I hope to keep coming back for many years to come!!! read more

Went there with my husband because it's his absolutely favorite breakfast spot! He would give it 5 stars plus! The staff is friendly. However if you are a vegan this is not the place for you. 1. Ambience : there are dead animal heads as decor on the walls all over the restaurant. Yeah not my scene 2. There is absolutely no way to make anything vegan. They don't even have olive oil in their kitchen only butter. I tried to create my own breakfast of sauteed veggies but being done in butter left me really sick for days. The prices seemed ok. My husband went here and really wanted to take me. I would give it another star but the waitress really pushed it the other direction. She made us feel so rushed, asked twice for our drink order, never came back for refills. (coffee and a water) We ordered a fritter, she brought it wrapped - we asked if it could be warmed...what an inconvenience! It came back after our meal was served "oh I thought this was brought to you"..."cold" and rubbery. Did not have very good flavor. (I know it's a get in get out place...but it wasn't overly busy when we came.) The food was ok. The view, fall colors were nice. Know it's a popular place...maybe we will come back to try the rolls? Got the fish and chips. Fish was very bland, the breading had no taste or seasoning, 2 not very big pieces. The fries were soggy and had bits of breading in them, almost like they had been cooked with the fish. Slaw was also bland and a very small serving. Very disappointing for the price read more

I like to try new places and hope for the best. Vern is in the middle of County Road 54 "G" and no other restaurant for a good 20 minutes. I order Loaded Spuds and Bowl of Green Chile. The Green Chile was delicious, wish it was a little hotter, not the chile level. My chili bowl came lukewarm. The loaded spuds was microwaved to melt the cheese and to warm the potato. I hate anything microwaved and my dessert.... was also microwaved. I got a Pecan Roll and it was old. Video to see how hard it was to even fork a piece. I know it was microwaved cause I use to do it at home to old cinnamon rolls from the supermarket. read more

The servers were absolutely fantastic! Our server made some excellent recommendations. It has a rustic feel and is a great place - where a lot of the locals eat! We tried the cinnamon and the pecan roll. The cinnamon roll was the better of the two. I wanted to try something Vern's was famous for, so I had the chicken fried steak, and it was cooked to perfection. We'll be back on future trips to CO! read more

I highly recommend the patio here. It's spacious and has a beautiful view of a meadow and the range that are across from it. Their pecan rolls sell out early, so get their in time to enjoy one, for sure. read more

My party and I came here after rafting on the Poudre River. Server was very sweet, a little slow, which I get, as the place was busy. Towards the end of our stay she'd revealed it was her second day. She did a pretty good job! Food was good. Fries are hand cut, and the food is cooked fresh. I ordered the New Mexico Cheesesteak, which was delish! Husband got the chicken fingers, which he liked. Other winners our table ordered were the French dip, the loaded fries, and the cinnamon roll bread pudding. Side note: they're known for their cinnamon rolls, so my cousin ordered one to-go. I stopped in at Vern's to try their "new fried chicken." I found it to be a large serving of half a small chicken, but not that much to my liking. It didn't have a really nice crusty outside and was lacking in seasoning and flavor. The mashed potatoes were good and had a real authenticity to them as they were not whipped smooth. The dinner salad was good and of good size. I finished with cherry pie and that was very good. Service was fine and the decor is unchanged much from yesterday year and gives it a special charm. I'll be back as I used to dine here often before the pandemic. read more

What's not to love about Vern's? The location: Across the road from a beautiful mountain view. Find a seat on the porch or near a window and you won't be disappointed. Easy to find parking! The place: Glorified hunting lodge themed. Lots of taxidermied animal decor which is fascinating to check out. There's lots of seating available inside and outside. Plus there's a sort of general store with souvenirs and postcards. The service: As a group of eleven, we expect to be a bit of a nuisance. Our servers were champions. As a table with tourists and locals, we had some questions and some unconventional humor (my dad likes to joke with servers and they politely humored him). Bonus points for carrying a tray full of large water glasses and then balancing six people's dishes on one arm. Very impressive. The food: I love the food. I got huevos rancheros with green chile. Eggs over easy and dripping with gooey cheese, it was delightful. One down side that I can't bring myself to dock a star for: it's possible my dish had meat in it. I didn't see any listed on the menu as being in the dish...but it's possible it was in my green chile? Next time: I'm going to double check whether there's meat in a dish, ask that helpful champion of a server. Or get cinnamon roll French toast! read more

In term of the Fort Collins food scene there are way too many breakfast places. This is always where I where I end up on my Sunday afternoons. When the weather is nice, the patio is where it is at but I there are A LOT of bees, so be careful. The cinnamon rolls are amazing! I recommend starting with one or two as an appetizer. Ohh and the coffee, I am not sure what it is about this coffee but it is incredible. My go to on the menu is the Grilled Breakfast Sandwich. I have also had the Chocolate Chip Pancakes, they were okay. Needed a lot more chocolate chips. The staff at Vern's is so kind, and always takes care of its customers. Great place for locals, it usually doesn't have an extreme wait time unlike most of the Fort Collins breakfast places. read more

I am a long time customer and love this eatery. Recently changed ownership. "improvements" made have not been good. Eggs were ordered medium done, came out runny even when sent back. Really sorry to see breakfast ending at noon rather than 2:00pm. And do NOT order the avocado toast. it used to be the best in Larimer County. it's awful now. Would like to put in a good word for the waitstaff, they have weathered a lot of change and remain wonderful. read more

This establishment is listed under "Steakhouses" and I must disagree with that connotation. This is a local diner. Stopped in after 2pm on a Sunday and the place was full, had to wait for a couple of minutes. That tells me others like this place too. The atmosphere is family owned diner right at the foothills of the mountains, so it's fine but not the star. The food was solid. Both my wife and I had the fish and chips, but only because they were out of the chicken pot pie at 2pm. My wife wanted the chicken pot pie and I saw it on another table and it looked amazing. So the fish was fresh and crunchy without being too greasy. The fries were greasy, just like I like them but the antithesis of what my wife likes. Homemade tartar sauce and cole slaw accompany the star of the show. We also got the fried okra - pretty good. The wife just didn't like the okra, but I believe she wouldn't love it from anywhere. Service was decent in the we're trying to turn tables kind of way. It's a diner. If this were a steakhouse the service would have been lacking, but that's not where we are. So solid. Overall the value was decent. Food solid. Service solid. I'll eat here again. read more

Went in today, seems the food has changed. Took sometime for our food to come out. I ordered fish and fries, when it came out you could see the shiny grease on the fries. Asked for new ones, they were better but not like they use to be. The fish was rather greasy also. Maybe they need to change their oil. Note to self don't order fried food here anymore, seems like they have new cooks, who really may not care about the quality of food they are sending out. read more

Stopped in today while biking the Poudre River trail. Even though they currently have an abbreviated menu, my burger and fries were awesome and the service and server were top notch! This was my first visit and will definitely not be my last. Im excited to see in the photos here that the usually serve steak and some delicious looking breakfasts. Been here with my wife and two other couples on a lovely Sunday afternoon, around 1 and luckily they were still serving the breakfast menu. Long story short, good food ( my wife did n`t liked the gravy on her steak but this is a matter of taste not their fault ), a pleasant time with friends. 5 stars aren't enough for Vern's place. It would take at least 50 to show how great this place is. Beautiful outdoor patio patio under the shade of an ancient Cottonwood tree. As we all are aware, businesses have been operating at least at half capacity. Our server was nice, but, we were rushed through every phase of our experience and the place was pretty empty. The food was pretty plain. I knew I was getting a mediocre burger, at best, when I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked. Freezer patty 100%. Oh yea, there was a pube in my girlfriends food. Not impressed at all with this place especially after hearing good things. Kitchen needs to step it up and waitress needs to take a chill pill. read more
