The nail salon was clean and they did a decent job on my nails for both times that I went to the nail salon; however I was extremely turned off by their poor representation of customer service and how much of an inconvenience they made me feel for walking in.
My 1st experience at Venice Nail Bar was on Mother's day (and I recognized that my choice of days and 2 hours before they close is not an ideal situation to judge a place on) as they were obviously busy and having a long day; so I decided to give them another chance since they did do a decent job on "dipping" my nails (a new technique). I was surprised, that my 2nd visit to the nail salon was even more of a turn off to return, then my 1st trip.
What turned me off on my 1st experience with the nail salon was the gentlemen who checked me in (and checked me out) made me feel as though I was an inconvenience to them. I walked in 2 hours before they closed and ask if they had any availability for a manicure and pedicure. He kept looking at the clock and the back of the nail salon (at what I assume where the clients there, being waited on by technicians in the salon). I suggested coming back another day, and he rolled his eyes and said, "We have time to get to you today but you should have been here earlier". I can respect that and I said thank you for squeezing me in and proceeded to pick out a color. He then walked me to the technician that was working with me for my manicure and pedicure. The technician was a nice enough person and did a nice job on my nails. What turned me off of this technician was that he kept talking to me about his experiences with women and how he knows what women want, in combination to sharing his other client's personal matters (such as drinking, gambling, and domestic issues) that were probably told in confidence on some level and really should not have been shared with a new client/stranger. Upon leaving the salon after my services; I chalked up my experience as they had long stressful shift (being Mother's Day) and might have needed to vent, but it was worth a 2nd visit to see if my experience might have been a one-time thing.
For my 2nd visit I made sure that I went at least 4 hours before they closed during the week, and when they might have been less busy. My 2nd visit was a disappointment and not too far off from my 1st experience. This time in the salon there were only two other ladies and 5 nail technicians; and I was greeted by the same gentleman who continued to make me feel as though I inconvenienced his day by walking in. He kept looking at the clock and then he would look at his appointment book which only had 2 appointments listed for the afternoon. He asked me 3 times what I wanted to have done as far as service; and each time I smiled and said a manicure and pedicure. It was the most awkward and longest minute or two for him to reply and say okay, we can accommodate you, pick out your color. He then placed me with the same technician that I had last time, who picked up where he left off last time about his experience with women (and how he knows what women want), as well as sharing his other client's personal matters. I just nodded my head listening and tried to change the subject hoping that would help with the discomfort of hearing about others personal misfortunes, but I had no such luck in steering him away from negative conversations. Upon check out for the 2nd visit and having the service that I had on mother's day, I was returned to the same gentleman to check me out as who had checked me in. Upon check out for my 2nd visit, I was up charged by 5 dollars. When I asked why the difference of being charged 58 on mother's day versus today, he told me he didn't know anything about what I was charged in the past and that my services were 63 dollars for the day. I paid the 63 dollars for the service without arguing further but making a mental note to document my visits in a review. read more
