Was walking around when I turn and see what looked like chocolate heaven. Anything chocolate will make me stop! Went in and saw gelato so I had to try it. I've been on a gelato spree in Florence and well, I had higher hopes for this one. GELATO: Unico Caramel (3.5 stars): not much caramel flavor. I did like the crunchy bits in it. Dark chocolate (3.5 stars): I love dark chocolate and this was pretty good, rich, but the texture just wasn't as good as the others I've had in Florence. It was hard to tell what all the favors were. Some were in English, some not. Maybe I chose the wrong ones. I didn't really see anyone buying chocolates, everyone was going for the gelato. read more

Of all the gelato places we've tasted during our trip to Italy, this was my favorite (I actually loved the yogurt flavor at Groms the best but the gelato here was better). We made it a mission to find the best gelato in Italy during our trip and using yelp and trip advisor, we hit up pretty much all the popular gelato places in Rome and Florence (Valentinos, blue, Groms, venchi, edoardo, and few others). And while the yogurt flavor at Groms was my favorite, the gelato at venchis was a lot smoother and creamier. The place must be also well known for its chocolate because I saw a lot of people buying bags and bags of their chocolate and most of their gelato flavors had chocolate in it. We had some cream/chocolate swirl (amazing) and the pistachio (not the fake bright green crap but the real dark colored pistachio which actually tasted like ground up pistachio). If you are in florence I would highly recommend this place for gelato. Tip - there is a chocolate/coffee line and gelato line, but they end up merging at the cashier and it's kind of a zoo so I would recommend you make your way up to the cashier rather than trying to figure out which is which. read more

My favorite gelato and chocolate chain in Florence! The place is wonderfully decorated with the chocolate waterfall and the wall of assorted chocolates. The staff workers were so nice and willing to go the extra mile to help you choose what to buy. The girl who helped me let me sample the chocolates and the hazelnut spreads so I'd have a better idea of what I liked. Cremino gelato and the chocolate version of it were my favorites! Thankfully, they do have Boston and New York locations in the States! If you're in Florence, then this should be on the list to try! read more

Spent almost 100 Euros buying the chocolates as souvenirs for our family and friends back home, because that's how good it was. I don't think we got any other souvenirs but here at venchi. Since we've been here for 3 days I think we had there gelato back to back haha it was a 15 minute walk from our hotel but so worth the blisters and scorching heat during the summer. I decided that I don't like the way the ground floor of Venchi is set up... you have people who don't understand gelato etiquette and wonder why no one is helping them, then you have other people who just cut the queue and order... can't do it! I think Venchi needs a better way of organizing things. Anyway, I was in the area shopping and I thought I would stop in again and try a couple different flavors. This time I tried Fantasia del Gelato and their Unico Caramel. I have to say that I kind of found both to be... underwhelming. I liked the crunchy bits that came in both and thought those (I think they were hazelnuts) added some great character and flavor, but the gelato itself was just ok. In fact, I tried the Unico Caramel first because I figured the chocolate of the other would overpower it... I had to take a second bite because I didn't really get much flavor. The Fantasia del Gelato, the chocolate I liked a bit more than the Aztec Chocolate, but I think I can confidently say that Venchi is not my favourite and that I will probably trek elsewhere for my gelato. read more

This place. It's like a luxurious candyland. Their chocolates are smooth and creamy with interesting flavors including tiramisu, creme brûlée... Also their cappuccinos are superb. Im sure their gelato was doubly amazing but we didnt get to try any! read more

Okay to say this was the best gelato ever!! I had the tiramisu and it was amazing you can taste the coffee and mascarpone goodness and that cone dipped in chocolate and then sprinkled with hazelnuts. The service was a bit harsh meaning the folks behind the counter had attitudes, thinking that they were having a bad day. Being in Italy and eating from many different Gelateria's this gets a solid 4. The line was always long so the expectation was set high. I tried many different flavors and none disappointed. Delicious gelato, and right in the center of Florence! The shop is so cute, FILLED with chocolate, which is always a good sign. The chocolate "faucet" is my personal favorite... I went with the nougat flavor. It was sweet, roasty and nutty, with the slight crunch of almonds and caramelized sugar. The texture is very classically gelato, with that slight stretch to it. The gelati are average and overpriced by the standards of Florence and choices are ordinary. The chocolates may be great but at their prices I wasn't about to find out. A huge name in Italy, Venchi is known for its fine chocolates and gelato. While Grom may be better, this is certainly excellent and at reasonable prices. It's right around the corner from Piazza della Signoria and the markets so if you're craving gelato, you can't go wrong. You can always go to Grom for seconds! read more

A bit of a tourist trap - but the flowing hazelnut and chocolate fountains make it worth the trip. Venchi was one of the first makers of Giandjua, the original nutella before ferrero roche bastardized it into such a household name and took credit for it's creation - despite that it has a rich history in Turin italy. We tried Venchi gelato in Rome, so when we saw a shop near our hotel in Florence, it was a no brainer - we had to have it again! The gelato is creamy and light and the flavor is spot on. I highly recommend the dark chocolate nougat with the caramel/almond topping. I dream of this gelato! read more

I tried two flavors. stracciatela and nougat. the stracciatela was very good but for the nougat I really couldn't tell whether I was having vanilla or something else. I would recommend adding the melted chocolate in.the cone. it was an extra 0.50 euros but it was really good way to finish off my gelato. read more

Not worth the hype. Yes the chocolate wall is cool to look at, but the gelato was nearly tasteless. The flavors are not well labeled. The ordering process is horrible because you pay first then take your receipt to the other side. It's so crowded all the time that it turns into people just pushing around trying to get to the front. We paid extra for our cone to be dipped in the chocolate wall and all they did was pour some chocolate inside the cone which was a complete mess when eating it. Try somewhere else read more

The gelato is great, but the flavor that makes this place exceptional is Nougatine (a chocolate and hazelnut flavor, with a caramel like twist). I couldn't find anything else like it anywhere in Italy. I loved it so much that I went here at least four times while I was in Florence. The BEST gelato we've had- came back here multiple times a day because it was just so amazing. It is very hard to go wrong with gelato in florence but this is genuinely the creamiest, most delicious one I've had.
