Came by as I was visiting Florence and this was a recommended gelato spot by some friends. I got the cherry and pistachio flavor. It was delicious and just for 3 EUR, it's the perfect gelato!! Best one I've ever had :) definitely recommend if you're visiting Florence!

There are plenty of gelato places in Florence, but do make an effort to try this one! It's on a side street but just off the main touristy street and within short walking distance from other major attractions, so it's not really out of the wait. You do have to wait in line but it's worth it. They have their flavors of the day posted outside the shop so you can make your choices as you wait. They do have quite a lot of flavor to choose from! Once it's your turn, the staff is extremely patient and helpful with you, like you were the only customer in the store, they answer your questions, offer samples, and don't try to herd you through so they can tend to the next customer. Totally delicious and very natural tasting. If you see the sesame flavor, get it! Though I doubt you will go wrong with any. There's not much seating available; a bench inside and maybe a table outside.

Must. Get. The. Sesame. Gelato. The sesame gelato is a milk and honey gelato with crunchy sesame brittle mixed in -- so creative with flavor and texture. For something refreshing, you can try one of the summer fruit flavors like cantaloupe or peach. The store is small and narrow, so order quickly and get outta the way!

Yep! As good as everyone says! Tried a few flavors and loved them all. The speciality sesame one was really interesting. Lots of sorbet and fruit flavors.

There are many, many good places that make gelato in Firenze but this one, this one is a true contender for the top spot. There's a list on the wall of flavors available that day - what's in season or freshly available. The gelato is artisanal and the flavors aren't wild or trendy but I have on special occasion seen some very creative offerings. Once I was lucky enough to stop by when they had made gelatos from sweet wine, chewy, salty cheese and pear. I had a cup with all three and it honestly was the best frozen treat I have ever had. When I am in town I stop by several days a week to see what they have made and sample as needed. It's usually pretty busy, the locals live this place but the line moves fast and the wait is always short. Five stars!

Nice gleataria in Florence and the best flavor and lord of people and small queue. It's totally worth the wait and price. Located closer to the cathedral and clock tower. We tried the mango flavor and water melon flavor, and both flavors tasted real fruits. There is no seating but easy to get in and get out. Definitely recommend this place , the best

The gelato here isn't bad. Not the best in Florence but not bad Service was good as well

First gelateria I found to have cake! You can have gelato and cake on the same cup. We had the coffee crunch plus tiramisu cake and matcha. I like all flavors and I have to say that it's one of the best tasting tiramisu I had. The 1 star deduction was for the price. 6 euros - 3 flavors but the cup is smaller. Also it was a bit too sweet for my delicate taste buds.

2 Flavors in a Cup including Buontalenti

Stop two, for us, on our gelato tour of Florence involved a stop at Gelateria Perchè No! Why not! Perchè No! regularly appears on "best" gelato in Florence lists. It's one of the oldest shops in town (founded in 1935) and specifically what brought us here was to try their recreation of Buontalenti, the original gelato flavor. Perchè No! won a contest to recreate chef Buontalenti's 1565 recipe and it's been permanently on their menu ever since. So if you're on a gelato tour, and you want something connected to the actual origin of gelato, this is the exact spot for you. The gelato was fantastic. It was a whole other level to taste what the original flavor may have tasted like. They've got dairy free (vegan) flavors if you need them, and a whole bunch of really well done classic gelato flavors to try in a cup or cone. We were super happy to be there and eat this gelato and bummed that the only way to have it again is to travel back to Florence from Los Angeles. (BUT WE'RE WILLING!) Thank you, Perchè No! for the delicious gelato history in our mouths!

We asked our guide for the best Gelato and she directed us to Perche. It did not disappoint. While there were so many beautiful colors and options, I chose my fav which was caffe. It was so good. I noticed others were mixing multiple flavors into one cup. I was kind of wishing I would have tried that and added the caffè mousse. Gives me another reason to head back there. Staff was quick as there was a line out the door. There were some nice planters nearby with benches to sit and people-watch and enjoy the sweet treat. It was fun to see the Yelp sticker on the door!

Milk honey (€3,00) Good rec fr taxi driver

After a heavy dinner at Perseus, mija & ITC still wanted gelato. I wouldn't normally get anything, but it was our last night in Florence. We stopped by Perchè No (Why Not) at the rec of our taxi driver. Its located near Piazza Uffizi, where there is some good sightseeing. I ordered a milk honey and it was very good. The flavors of gelato are so much more intense vs ice cream, and they have less air and fat: Its Healthy! Hahaha There is no where to sit so we just sat in a public area, and enjoyed our treats while people watching on a hot night. The line was long, but it moved quickly. The staff was very friendly, and like most Italians, spoke very good English. If you are near Piazza Uffizi and have a gelato craving, hit up Perché No. It is literally a why not decision.

Gelateria Perchè No! Crema & Caffe' @ the iconic Florentine family-owned Gelateria, since 1939!
Eric R.

"Be the flame, not the moth." - Casanova It's almost sacrilege to rate iconic Gelateria's in Florence, Italy with anything less than one-hundred. After all, the heavenly modern Gelato was invented, discovered in this great city. Debatable, I know, but the proud Florentines insist that the origins started here! I won't argue with these beautiful people. Gelateria Perchè No! was one of my first bookmarks when I found myself on an Italian train to Florence. When people ask me.. "Eric, why Italy?" My answer is History and Gelato! And Gelateria Perchè No! is the best of both worlds! Family owned and founded in 1939 it is one of the oldest artisanal Gelato shops in the world! The reviews over social media raves about the high quality ingredients and authenticity of this shop. I had to experience this for myself! After settling in my Italian Bed & Breakfast is when I decided to take a stroll to the Duomo. After being amazed by it's incredible beauty is when I decided it was time for some Gelato! For me, it wasn't just a random shop I was looking for, but Gelateria Perchè No! which many consider the best in Italy! It didn't take much effort to get to my destination as it's located just a stones throw from the Duomo. I lucked out with only a couple standing in line. Upon entering the small, yet charming Gelateria is when I was greeted in Italiano. I quickly perused the menu, but instead asked the scooper (probably a family member) what was her favorite (I recall this advice from a reel on my Instagram). Without hesitation she said "Crema & Caffe" on Cone! Si! Si! And Crema & Caffe it is! Cost only 4€ (5€ with tip). Crema & Caffe Gelato firmly in my hand is when I start licking away. For me, I taste Italian Gelato the way Giacomo Casanova showed me. Start with the tip of your tongue, let the Gelato slide to the back of your mouth, pucker your lips and enjoy! Really! :D In the end, I highly recommend Gelateria Perchè No! if you're lucky enough to be in beautiful Florence. Ok, was it the best, ever? I'll first say it was insanely delicious! Incredibly smooth! And of the highest quality! However! However! Hmm as delicious as it was it was not my favorite in Florence, for starters the scoops not as generous as other shops I visited, and the flavor not as intense as the next Gelateria I visited! And my Gelato Italia story continues... Ciao;)

Absolutely THE BEST Gelato I have ever had. In the US good ice cream places are rare to find, the biggest issue I have is the level of sweetness, everything in the IS is just TOOO sweet. In Europe things are much less sweet overall but this place is just perfect. The Gelato is made daily fresh, so a lot of the flavors you can't get 2 days in a row. Everything is just delicious and delightful that you can not get enough. When I usually eat ice cream even at other most of the gelato places, I leave feeling heavy and not satisfied, regenerating why I had some and I usually can't finish a small order on my own. I don't have that problem here. After eating my ice cream I leave feeling great and wanting more. 10 out of 5 for Gelato 4 for for service. 4 for location and ambiance If you ever visit Florence this place is must have, you will not regret it.

I had not had a chance to order an affogato since I arrived in Italy. I was always ordering espresso everywhere. Of course I jet inside to the quick moving line, maybe 10 people... and ordered the pistacio affogato not regular. To my surprise it was a scoop of pistacio gelato with coffee poured in the middle. Topped with a pistacio nut rim. It was amazing and so flavorful. I could have drank 10 more. I hadn't walked Florence since I mostly did day trips so I had just one. I will remember it forever, dream about it and added to my blessed and grateful list! This is a must visit place in Florence. The decor inside is pretty and they have pastries and sandwiches too Ciao Bella!

To be transparent, one of the things that drew me to La Strega was the name, I wanted to see what was so witchy about this gelato - and of course the positive reviews helped. The gelateria itself was lovely - soft music playing with intricate decor and a good amount of space. There were a few chairs and stools in case you wanted to sit and enjoy, though they were a little awkwardly placed. There were several flavors of gelato as expected - instead of being on display they were in tubs covered in lids. I heard that's the "proper" way to store gelato as it remains fresher, though the jury is still out for me on that one. Anyway, I got the smallest cup size where I was able to choose two flavors - so I went with the cream and the chestnut. The gelato was really good - creamy with great flavor. Service was great, and overall this was a solid gelateria - La Strega is definitely worth stopping into when in Firenze.
