Located steps from Firenze Duomo La Strega Nocciola is a popular stop for both locals and tourists, the brick interior and magical name feeling older than it is while natural production methods insure quality. Decorated shabby-chic across a small footprint, pleasant servers scooping from metal cylinders 12h00 to 20h00 daily, traditional flavors dominate a list of perhaps two-dozen and whether one selects pure Fior de Panna or Pistachio textures are smooth containg restrained sweetness.

Buontalenti & Hazelnut she said! 'Cause when the cute Florentine scooper tells you to... Oh my!

"Sensual love is three quarters curiosity" - Casanova La Strega Nocciola is the Lamborghini of Gelato! My highest rated star goes to this Gelateria! I'm not saying just 'cause the scooper resembled a Versace runway supermodel lol. Like others mention, flavors here are unique compared to other Gelateria shops across historic Florence! La Strega is top shelf! Ciao! Many Gelato aficionados agree that the first to make true artesian Gelato, creamy and cool as we know it today, were the Florentines in the 16th century. Creamier, less sugar, and unforgettable! Of course when I found myself on the Italian train to Florence, I bookmarked highest rated Gelaterias! La Strega Nocciola was on that list of utter bliss! I chose this location near the Ponte Vecchio, for many reasons, the first it's on my walking route! This was my third Gelato shop for the day! I enter to a chic environment! Modern with exposed brick wall, with touches of Tuscany! Natural light awakens the soul! A few years back I studied the art of artesian Gelato and recognizing authentic Italian Gelato - at the top is avoiding the shops with mountains of glossy colored stuff. In fact, La Strega Nocciola is one of the few shops where the Gelato is enclosed in metal "cold boxes" with lids, so really you're only seeing the name plate. Taste testing if preferred, but for me, I order what the local Italians order. So I ask Ms. supermodel. Her response: Buontalenti and... Buontalenti and Hazelnut it is! It is also agreed that true Buontalenti Gelato can only be found in Tuscany. After all, the exclusive Buontalenti flavor is named after Bernardo Buontalenti, the founder of the Italian dessert! It's ironic that nothing in the ingredients is crazy or hard to find... it's simply cream milk, sugar, eggs, but I guess the so called "secret" is usually a liqueur (such as Di Saronno Amaretto). Alternatives include, a pinch of mixed spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Buontalenti and Hazelnut firmly in hand! The moment of truth as I turn the keys to this exotic Lamborghini! Rawwwr! As I lick, swirl, and almost immediately go into a sense of ecstasy! Non posso vivere senza di te - I can't live without you! Oh my! Is my inner Casanova experiencing the greatest love, ever? Ok, let's not go that far, but as far as Gelato goes... La Strega Nocciola is the best lick, ever! ;P In the end, I highly recommend La Strega Nocciola if you're lucky enough to be in Florence! There are actually several across Tuscany, but I wouldn't consider it a chain, it's just how popular it is in this region of Italy! Oh my! I'm still dreaming of her! Yes, her, my only regret... not going back a million times! For the Buontalenti, silly! The Buontalenti! Ti Amo ;)

Mango and pistachio gelato

We found the best gelato in Firenze and it's La Strega Nocciola! Their flavors are so true to their names. For example, the mango and pistachio that I ordered actually tasted like mango and pistachio. The dairy gelatos are so good and creamy. Usually, there are long lines but luckily, La Strega Nocciola has 4-5 locations around Firenze. This is a must-stop if you love gelato.

Fan tas tic! I am not an ice cream eater typically but tried a few gelato places in Italy. The family had many more all of which looked good but this one stands out above all others. Sooo good! The Mayan chocolate was nicely spicy and coupled with a rich dark chocolate ... indescribable. Other flavors were reported to be delicious as well . Go you won't be disappointed!

A great spot for some quick gelato. The gelato was delicious and tasted fresh. The shop had a good range of flavors and the staff was friendly. I really liked the vibe of the place - it almost looked like a café with the exposed brick interior. I tend to prefer to have a view of the gelato so I can see what the texture of the gelato looks like and evaluate which flavors are most enticing, but the gelato was covered. In terms of taste and overall experience, no complaints here!

Top notch REAL gelato. I got the mint and pistachio and they were divine! Worth seeking our special gelaterias then going to random places!

Great gelato shop if you're at Ponte Vecchio. It's about a minute walk from the bridge which makes the location super convenient. Lots of gelato flavors... I got the pistachio and hazelnut which were both so good and made for a yummy combo! The shop is pretty big, but they only have one table inside, and one table outside. A good spot for gelato if you're in the area.

Amazing lemon, lavender and hazelnut flavor. They clearly make gelato the correct way here. The ingredients are perfect.

If the espresso bar side is closed, you can go to the gelato side and they have the pistachio and orignal there as well. The full menu is only available at the espresso bar. I ordered the hazelnut and it was delicious. I still dream of this affogato. Smooth, rich, perfect mix of sweetness and bitterness. I do think this is worth a stop if you are in Florence.

I had not had a chance to order an affogato since I arrived in Italy. I was always ordering espresso everywhere. Of course I jet inside to the quick moving line, maybe 10 people... and ordered the pistacio affogato not regular. To my surprise it was a scoop of pistacio gelato with coffee poured in the middle. Topped with a pistacio nut rim. It was amazing and so flavorful. I could have drank 10 more. I hadn't walked Florence since I mostly did day trips so I had just one. I will remember it forever, dream about it and added to my blessed and grateful list! This is a must visit place in Florence. The decor inside is pretty and they have pastries and sandwiches too Ciao Bella!
