There was a long line when we went around 4PM. I liked the decorations inside! They had lots of chocolate already wrapped in gift boxes so it was easy to pick for souvenirs. The shop is a little small and lots of people were coming in and out. We tried the gelato and gelato shake, both were good! You can customize your gelato shake, which was nice. One of my favorite gelatos shop in Florence. The gelato is super rich the shop is full of chocolate. If you don't want gelato they have more sweets for purchase. But honestly you can taste the richness and quality in this gelato I can eat a bucket of it. I got the chocolate of course and it was just so rich loved it. $27 for one cone and one small bowl? I've heard about the ripoffs on this tourist street, but this really was out of the park. We were on a tour and I ran in and got a cone in a bowl. I didn't check the receipt but felt like it was a little high. But I was in a hurry. The thief behind the counter rang up a tip 2/3 higher than the original cost. Do not trust restaurants like this. Their customer care needs work. First guy was great, gave me a sample chocolate taste and I bought a $20 gift. Two days later I go back to get a second gift. Bought it from a lady. Then I get in line to buy some gelato at the same establishment. A woman gives me a taste of one flavor and the first lady comes over telling me I have to pay before tasting. That's really bad business towards a customer who spent $20 that day. There are gelato shops every twenty feet in Florence so our group will go to one of them where they let you taste a flavor and don't treat you like a vagrant. read more

The cascading wall of molten chocolate in this store is a cool optical trick. We visited two Venchi shops in Firenze, and also saw one at Rome airport. Evidently, they have a well-established corporate identity throughout Italy. Everyone raves about their gelati. It was good, but I can't eat gelato every day. Their chocolate bonbons, OTOH, are irresistable. Having a bowl of these in your house is dangerous. Ridiculously expensive, but maybe the best chocolate I've evefr had, and a lot of fun in the store to fill a bag with handfuls of your favorites from the dozens of huge bins which line the wall. Extremely rude and 2 of the workers made racist comments towards us. We came in, paid and asked to try the Gelato. The one guy lied saying I already tried 2 and refused us any trials despite our purchases. He said he'd rather refund my money than have me try a sample (we ended up getting a refund). Another woman double charged another and tried to gaslight us into thinking he was charged appropriately. Two people got Gelato anyway and the cherry on top was the Gelato was horrible. On our way out they screamed some other racial comments. I have never seen another place treat customers this place. Thankfully we have had amazing experiences with all other Italians so I would be mortified as an owner to keep these people hired. If you're colored, not Italian (especially American), or expecting any service, just be ready for this group of workers (hopefully it's not the same daily). I was here with my family. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the flavor I got here (brutto e buono; like a hazelnut flavor with bits of hazelnut chunks in it), but a mini size for 2.5 euro in a cup or cone (you're only allowed one flavor) is a little steep for my budget. There are way more gelaterias out there in Florence that have amazing quality gelato with bigger portions for the price. Venchi is worth trying, only if you're shopping in the area and avoiding the generic, piled-high, touristy gelato. Since Venchi is a chocolate shop, go for the chocolate flavors. Also a small tip: you pay first before ordering your gelato, then you give your receipt to the workers and then they tend to your needs. They also have coffee, crepes, or brioche with gelato here. Everything in this store is slightly pricey because it's a well-known chocolate shop in Italy and it's smack on the tourist block. I've seen this shop in Rome and Venice already, so you're bound to run into one unexpectedly if you're touring other cities in Italy. They have a huge selection of unique chocolate, in bulk or you can purchase bars at the counter. If you want white, dark with different percentages of cacao, or plain milk chocolate, I suggest buying Venchi bars at other retailers because it's cheaper. But you know, if you want to bring back Venchi products back to your respective hometowns straight from the shop, by all means go for it. read more

Great gelato and great crepes! There's few differences in the different ones we went to (we went in Venice and Florence). In Florence, the guy let us have two gelato flavors with our crepe, but in Venice, the girl only let us have one. Besides that, although it is a chain, the customer service and quality of the gelato is fantiastic and consistent. Not only is the gelato delicious, but it is also very reasonably priced compared to some other places around. It is also a chocolate/candy shop so it's a great place to buy sweets in general. Venchi is one of Florence's oldest chocolatiers, established in 1878. They started serving gelato fairly recently, but don't take that to mean they're not any good! We stopped by Venchi on our way down to see the Ponte Vecchio and had to get some gelato. You pay at the register first and then bring your receipt to the gelato counter where they'll take your order. Feel free to try out some flavors before making your selection! I had the mango sorbet and the lemon gelato. The two flavors meshed really well together because both flavors are a bit tart, a bit sour, and sweet at the same time. I think the mango was one of my favorite flavors during this entire trip. My sister had the strawberry and chocolate, which was not quite as photogenic as mine was! The gelato is also super cheap here - I think we paid about 9€ for three cones! read more

There are two Venchi locations in central Florence. We came to this one first and had a good experience, although we then went to the other location (which has higher Yelp ratings) and had a much worse experience. The dark chocolate is very rich and dark (they have several cacao percentages to choose from, the highest is 82% which is pretty dark) and they have a flavor called something like hazelnut biscotti (I forget the exact name) that was excellent and very reminiscent of my favorite gelato in the world, a sweet cream biscotti flavor at Gelateria La Romana in Rome. They also pour chocolate in your cone (for an extra charge) like Gelateria La Romana, but they don't do it as well and all the chocolate kind of pools at the bottom instead of coating the sides. Still I would say this place is worth a stop, especially if you're a chocoholic. read more
