I don't know if there is bad gelato, but I haven't encountered it yet. That said, Sbrino is the best gelato I had in Florence, which puts it toward the top of the list of my favorite gelato worldwide. This tiny little shop has an inefficient system for ordering, which results in more of a line than their should be, and subsequently more of a delay than I'd like in getting the most delicious caramello gelato cone into my face. However, I find it hard to be upset with them once I am eating the gelato. Eating this gelato makes me very happy, and I would like to come back to Florence and eat it every day of my life until I die, fat and happy. The sandwiches here are really good. I also love the pizza here. It was so simple with just a few ingredients, but the flavors were just phenomenal. And a good example of "less is more." If you have high quality ingredients, you don't need to pile on other things. And there is a cute market area you can buy local products. I ended up buying some sicilian, olive oil and was surprised at how expensive it was but I was curious about it because you can only get it in italy and it got good reviews. This was my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE gelato place we ate at in our entire 2 weeks in Italy, in all the cities we visited, from Bologna to the Amalfi coast. Walking up, there was a fairly long line but it only took about 20 min from us to have gelato in our hands from entering the queue by the photo booth around the corner. The inside of this place is decorated really cutely, with a shocking amount of seating inside. They have the metal container with a lid type of system (not the huge brightly colored mounds) so I had in inkling this place would be good. You do the came thing as other places, where you pay for the size you want and then come to pick your flavors. The people working here are friendly and super quick and efficient with scooping. I got the salted caramel gelato (caramello) with mulberry sorbet (gelso). This was actual heaven. I will dream about the salted caramel for the rest of my life, it was that good. read more

The best gelato place we ended up trying out of all the cities we visited (Venice, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Florence). Sbrino checked all the boxes: metal tins with lids to store the gelato and maintain temperature, flat spatulas to scoop the flavors, natural-looking colors, and seasonal flavors. This place was recommended by someone we met who was studying abroad here. The flavors are listed in Italian outside, but if you go inside, they have English translations for the flavors as well. So many interesting flavors to try! I ended up splurging for the three scoops in a cone since there were so many flavors I wanted to try. They had bacio (hazelnut/chocolate), malaga (vanilla & wine; kind of like a rum & raisin flavor), and vanilla bourbon. So good! Very flavorful and silky and smooth texture. This was definitely one of the best (if not THE best) gelato places in Florence. It's conveniently located in the San Spirito district where a lot of the major tourist attractions are (although this was away from all the crazy crowds), so no excuse not to stop by here if you are visiting! Surprisingly, there was no line when we arrived, they were just finishing helping a customer. We were able to try a sample or two, I don't remember, but it was kinda tricky b/c they only had flavors on a board, and the gelatos weren't displayed like you'd imagine with the big o mounds. They were in metal bins, with lids so you couldn't see the flavors. That's one of your first signs that this place is legit instead of those huge mounds of colorful stuff. I remember getting a pumpkin seed flavor and some other one that the girl recommended and both were delicious! The girl wasn't too many smiles and was more business. The pumpkin seed, idk why I thought it'd be orange in color lol It was a very natural color of what you'd think of seeds but it was delicious. The flavors here were unique for sure and was our 2nd favorite gelato shop of our trip. Would recommend making a stop here! read more

It was way better than Perche No. You can get a cone or cup for the same price of 3.50 euros. One scoop can be split into two flavors. Pistachio is a really popular one. During my first visit, they ran out of pistachio and the lady in line behind me got really upset. They said it would take a while for them to remake more. This was an amazing little gelateria right by the pitti palazzo. It was the perfect cold treat during the heat of midday. It had a bit of a line but went by very quickly, and was quite reasonably priced. The variety of flavor options was extensive with basics like dark chocolate to pumpkin seed to pear with chocolate chip. The flavor was rich and delicious, with the hazelnut having bits of nuts to add a little crunch to smooth texture. The dark chocolate tasted like a rich chocolate pudding. My girlfriend says the salted caramel was the best she ever had with a salty aftertaste- every salted caramel lover's dream. Also the portions were very good with each scoop being generous. This was my favorite gelato shop during my 3 weeks in Italy. It was recommended by the tour guide from our Free Walking Tour. It seems to be not in a super busy spot, no lines, no wait. It's a small shop with maybe a few stools for you to sit on to enjoy your gelato, but looks mostly people grab and go. The decor was super cute with greenery everywhere. The two guys that were working that day were both super nice and seemed very proud/passionate about the gelato they serve. I had the Caramelized Cinnamon Cookie in a small cup. This unassuming shop has the absolute best gelato in Florence. Forget about the older, popular shops like Vivoli...this place is truly the real deal. They use local ingredients like blueberries from the hills of Tuscany and have some of the most intensely flavorful gelato. The Speculos was my absolute favorite, but their pistachio white chocolate and four varieties of chocolate are to die for. Not to mention the locals who we met in the shop also agreed it's the best in the city. And, the staff are amazingly friendly. Carolina talked with us for a while while we enjoyed the indulgence.
