This place has a cute vibe and the staff is friendly. They have a lot of interesting flavors so choosing is tough. We finally decided on caramello de salle, sofia, nocciola, and creme de fiorentina. Caramello de Salle- The caramel flavor is deep and rich without being overly sweet. You get the sea salt in the end. Sofia- This has a custard base with chocolate chips and candied orange. The base is creamy and the chocolate provides a contrast while the orange gives you a burst of citrus. Nocciola- This is starting to be one of my favorite gelato flavors. The hazelnut flavor is rich and has just the right amount of sweetness. Creme de Fiorentina- Simple but delicious. The base is smooth and custardy and goes well with whatever second flavor you pair it with. Great experience overall! read more

Night time stop at yet another gelato place. This time I had their affogato (gelato with coffee) with cream on top. The gelato, of course, makes this Italian affogato better than what you would find in the US and yes definitely a must try is you are a coffee and a gelato lover. read more

I'm reading so many, "this place is so good, we went twice!" and it's reminding me of my best friend. We were in Italy as couples, but we separated a few times and one of the days her and her husband went to La Sorbettiera. She is also a pastry chef so when she came back she could not stop talking about how she NEEDED the peach and the lemon & sage sorbets in her life. How she could eat that everyday and absolutely NEEDED to go back and get more. She NEEDED to take us to this place, even though I had plans to try a different gelato place. So I gave in and walked the extra 10 min (20 round trip) to try this life changing sorbet. It was not worth it and I am not impressed. The shop is cute, don't get me wrong. The employees were also so nice and I appreciated their help. I had a Karen situation, someone decided they were more important and literally cut us off while we were speaking to the employee. Said employee looked right at her and said, "these people were first, so you can wait." Magic! The 3rd star was for that. The gelato here, for me was meh. It was icy and the flavors did not pop. It probably didn't help that I had the literal best gelato in my life the day before, so maybe I was just comparing but even then, if this place is that great, wouldn't the comparison be similar? I won't say this was bad gelato, but this was my experience. Maybe yours will be life changing! read more

My favorite gelato in, dare I say, all of Italy! I usually go for pistachio or stracciatella, but the dark chocolate here is divine. The dark chocolate is so rich in flavor and so creamy. The best part is it's not too sweet. I've thought about this gelato often since leaving Italy and will definitely come back for another taste. read more

We have gone here twice in one day. I ordered a scoop of coffee and one of pistachio. My husband ordered kiwi and lemon. The 2nd time I went with mango while my husband did mango and kiwi. We love the quality. This place was recommended by our hotel (The Frame Hotel) and is a close walk. We've been traveling all over Europe and this place is the only one we've seen that has lids covering each batch of gelato. The store is very clean and the staff has been helpful and friendly. They speak English and even helped us with directions. During the day, there was a line out the door pouring out onto the street. We waited about 10 minutes... but it was worth it. When we went after dinner, around 9:30, there was no line at all! Score! We plan on going every day we are in Florence. read more

Quite possibly the best gelato in Firenze. Yes, I know. I've already said that about Sbrino - but this is pretty much just as good, if not better (it's basically about which one you have had most recently ) The flavors are intense, yet spot-on, the consisetency is just right, and the temperature, well, is what it should be - from the moment you get your gelato, you're fighting a losing battle between consumption and melt! I walked 20 minutes just to go to this place. It was absolutely worth it! They do speak English very well and they're very welcoming and friendly. The gelato was to die for. It was so full, rich, and creamy. It has a nice gelato street in the Florentine suburbs feel to it. Absolutely go here for gelato!!!! read more

A definite must visit if you're in Florence. Some of the best gelato I've ever had! I chose the 75% dark chocolate paired with the pistachio and I couldn't tell which flavor I loved more or if the combination of the two was simply just delicious in itself. The service was very quick and there was a cute little seating area right outside the shop. If it gets busy around the area (which it usually does) I highly suggest walking a little down the road to enjoy your gelato and watch the sunset over the Arno. I will for sure be back! read more

This was one of 3 favorite gelato places that I found over 10 days in Italy (and I ate gelato every day, at least once, sometimes twice, in search of the best) I may have gained 5 lbs in one week just eating gelato, but it was all in the name of research. This place is located in Oltrarno, where not as many tourists frequent and where you'll find more locals, authentic food and reasonable prices. The place is really small and doesn't have an actual store, but there's bench seating and umbrellas right outside on the sidewalk. I had the best chocolate gelato of my life here - it tasted like real chocolate, almost like a creamy, frozen, chocolate mousse. It was unreal, I wish I could have eaten a whole tub of this. It paired really well with the hazelnut gelato that I got, which was also really fresh and not artificial-tasting. I would recommend these 2 flavors. I know a lot of other people like the lemon & sage sorbet -- I tried this, and thought it was really unique, but I'm a chocolate lover and have no regrets getting the chocolate gelato here. This is reasonably priced, and I think it was 2€ for a small size, and 2,50€ for the next size up (2 flavors/scoops). I would have ordered a larger one, but self-control got the best of me. I would absolutely come back here over and over in Florence, and recommend to anyone who loves gelato. I still dream of this chocolate gelato. read more

When I studied in Florence this became my absolute favorite gelateria. I have a favorite gelato place in NYC (it's really good) but I knew in Florence there had to be something better. It was quite some time before I found this, but I was incredibly pleased when I stumbled across this while lost in the Oltrarno. After that first time I came back many many times, and I recommend it to everyone I know who visits Florence! Their gelato is simply the best. The texture is spot on, but the highlight of this place is their flavors. Do not miss the gorgonzola e noci!! My other favorite is the buontalenti. But you've got to come more than once (or with a few friends) so you can try the unique seasonal flavors. To top it all off, you can get ice cream sandwiches here, which just makes it all the more fun. Without a doubt this gelateria deserves 5/5 stars. read more

Genuinely the best gelato I've ever had. So good we had this 4 times in 3 days! The flavors are bold but not fake, the gelato itself is creamy, and the variety is endless. We visited their other location (Via Mazzetta 9A 50125 Florence), which is in a nice neighborhood near Santo Spirito. The staff is unbelievably kind, too, which was a plus. But alas, I apparently have no self-control, so when my group was ordering gelato from La Sorbettiera, I had to ask for a sample too! Big mistake. For my waistline. Their vanilla (latte) flavor is way too good to pass up. It may sound like a boring choice, but nope. Definitely nope. This was, hands down, one of the best gelato flavors I had on my trip. Incredible gelato. I have been in Florence for over a month and I think this is the best gelato I have tasted. I had the Fig: green fig with the fruit and seeds scattered through out the gelato. It was like eating a cold, ripe green fig. The owner said made from fresh fig, water and sugar. I also had the Salted Caramel. Incredible with a sauce like tres leches intermingled. Over the bridge, past all of the touristy areas, right next to this little park, you'll find one of the best gelatos I have ever had in my ENTIRE LIFE. No joke. So, I found this place on trip advisor and the reviews were so high, I just HAD TO drag my friends along with me. It's a walk away from the Boboli Gardens, but I think it's completely worth it. Unlike other gelato places, they don't have their gelatos on display. Instead, they're kept in these metal containers that are covered with a metal lid. That's when you know it's legit. Flavors: Cookies: BEST FLAVOR EVER. No lie. There are huge chunks of chocolate fudge-like cookies with vanilla gelato and it's just delicious. The cookies are crunchy yet fudge-y..there's seriously no way to describe the magic that is the cookies gelato. Dark Chocolate: ANOTHER AMAZING FLAVOR. Ok, this thing is apparently like 70% cacao and if you're like me, and you prefer your chocolate dark. This is the gelato for you. It's sooooooo rich in flavor. So chocolatey (and not that sweet fake chocolate stuff). This stuff is real chocolate and it's delicious! Salted Caramel: highly recommended on trip advisor and with good reason. This thing is delicious. The salt brings out the caramel flavor and it's so rich and flavorful and amazing. If you're in florence and you have the time, or even if you don't, I say come here. It's a really local, non-touristy spot and you will NOT be disappointed. read more

I happened here at the suggestion of Yelp... and thank goodness! One of the best ice-cream in Florence: genuine, tasty, refreshing, creamy-crap for nothing. You can find it in Piazza Tasso, San Frediano, almost disappearing into the wall. A guy (quite cute!) will serve you a dozen carefully selected flavors. You will not regret! I made it my…read moreintention to try as much gelato as I could in the city so when we had some down time post-lunch we thought that a little sweet would hit the spot. To be transparent, one of the things that drew me to La Strega was the name, I wanted to see what was so witchy about this gelato - and of course the positive reviews helped. The gelateria itself was lovely - soft music playing with intricate decor and a good amount of space. There were a few chairs and stools in case you wanted to sit and enjoy, though they were a little awkwardly placed. There were several flavors of gelato as expected - instead of being on display they were in tubs covered in lids. I heard that's the "proper" way to store gelato as it remains fresher, though the jury is still out for me on that one. Anyway, I got the smallest cup size where I was able to choose two flavors - so I went with the cream and the chestnut. The gelato was really good - creamy with great flavor. Service was great, and overall this was a solid gelateria - La Strega is definitely worth stopping into when in Firenze.
