The best Italian chocolate hands down! I purchased a couple of bars of the milk chocolate at this store. I ate them so fast, my family was angry with me for my lack of sharing. When I got home I found a website that sold the bars and literally bought a case; all that they had in stock! When I called back a few weeks later, they told me that they were out because of me! Oh lord of Gelato, this is heaven! Venchi is a really popular gelato chain in Italy, you'll see it everywhere. That's why I was initially hesitant to visit. However upon my visit to Florence and passing the storefront showing off the amazing CHOCOLATE WATERFALL wall inside, I couldn't resist! Venchi has a lot of really unique interior designs such as a fountain in the train station shop, but this wall takes the cake! When I passed by it early afternoon, there weren't a lot of people but when it gets to after school time, this place is buzzing with tourists and Italians (especially kids) alike! The flavors of the gelato were rich and creamy, something I didn't expect from a chain. The servers speak some English as well. They also sell a variety of sweets such as chocolate and what I could only describe as Venchi's own brand of WHITE CHOCOLATE NUTELLA/HAZELNUT SPREAD. The white chocolate fanatic in me had to buy two cans to take home with me. Ohhhh boyyy it was amazing. Decided to give this place a try because it looked so inviting. Hubby and I stood by the gelato counter and asked to taste before we decided on the flavor we wanted. They told us we had to pay first in order to taste. Ok so I get it! Maybe people just taste and leave and not buy anything so they are trying to prevent that. So we paid for a small tub gelato which cost about €3-4 euros. Ok so we asked to taste the hazelnut flavor and the lady who was helping us gave us a taste. It was not good. So we asked to taste another flavor and she said we are only allowed to taste one. WTH! So then she said " ok since you are two, you can taste another one" we tasted another one and same thing - didn't taste nice. So because there was no way we were gonna he able to taste again and we had already paid we just selected 2 flavors hoping it would taste ok. The pistachio and stracciatella. The pistachio tasted like peanut butter ( not pistachio) and the stracciatella just tasted like sugar ( sweetened) and artificial. I should have known when they wanted us to pay upfront. Do yourselves a favor and just avoid this place. We left very dissatisfied and threw the tub in the trash gelato and all. There are way nicer places around. Who doesn't love a chocolate wall!? We visited Venchi for some gelato on our last night in Venice. You can choose several flavors all in one regular sized cup or cone, so that was nice to be able to try multiple flavors! We did 3: caramel, chocolate, and then a chocolate with hazelnut chocolatey pieces. The last flavor was the most delicious one. Not only do they have gelato, but they have all kinds of chocolates and truffles too. We loaded up on truffles to bring back to our friends as gifts from our trip abroad. Venchi's product is an assortment of gelato flavors, and chocolate based products such as their crepes. These products use their in-house chocolate that has a hazelnut undertone. For an add on fee, you can request the addition of the chocolate to the inside of a gelato cone. The gelato here is of very high quality and simply beats out some of the local gelaterias in the immediate area. On a recent visit I tried their cappuccino flavor with chocolate added to the cone. One scoop is enough, as the gelato is airy but quite rich. Take note that to order, you need to pay first, then move down the bar to place your order. When I visited most customers (tourists) did not realize this, leading to some chaos on a crowded Sunday evening. While I would normally recommend that you visit a local neighborhood gelato shop over a chain, the product and professional presentation of Venchi makes it worth a visit if you are in need of Gelato and near one of their many Firenze shops. read more

I was told that this gelato shop was the best to get chocolate flavored gelato. So I ordered their Nocciolato Latte and Cuor di Cacao flavors. Their Cuor di Cacao flavor definitely had a strong chocolate flavor that was very good. I can see why people came here for the chocolate flavor. Sadly I saw this girl's gelato fall onto her lap ruining her outfit!!! Poor girl!!! She had to clean herself off with Italy's cheap napkins that felt like plastic. :'( Oddly enough, the shop didn't take credit cards despite classy decor they had going on (yes, a classy decor correlates with the ability to take credit cards). On our trip to Italy, we saw Venchi gelaterias everywhere, so we finally decided to try it in Florence. Guess what? OVERRATED! It looks pretty from the outside, and it is really nice on the inside, so they got the decor down. However, the gelato is priced higher than any other local gelateria. A medium/2 flavors is €3.50 and their large/3 flavors is €4.50. We got the large with 3 flavors. The average we paid for a medium/3 flavors around Italy was usually €3. They whip up each flavor of gelato into a ball and gently place it in the cup (instead of packing/pressing the first two flavors down in the cup and stacking the third flavor on top like other gelaterias.) They whip up air into the gelato and place 3 balls of gelato into the cup, so you aren't getting a full cup of gelato, you get WAY LESS! For €4.50, we got less gelato in a "large" size than we could get for a €3 medium elsewhere. And the flavors were okay, nothing out of this world. To top off our disappointment, the lady at the register messed up our order (we said cup and she entered cone--no big deal) and she counted the money we gave her incorrectly and gave us less change! I'd stick to small, local gelaterias than this hyped up chain, not worth it. read more

This ice cream was delicious, one of the best I have tasted so far in Firenze. We found it under a very heavy rain by chance (lucky us), and it was like finding heaven. The place was crowded even though it was already cold outside and the ice cream season had ended a long time ago. The place also sell chocolate and "marrons glacés" which is a wonderful idea. It is a quite elegant place but prices are reasonable: 2,5 euros for one taste with a cone. I tasted an amazing ice cream I will not forgot for a long time: nougatine, which was like eating a delicious cake not totally cooked, tasty, unforgettable, maybe one of the best I have eaten in my life. With that, the "fiore di latte" was a nice (a bit lighter) addition and the mix was like perfection. Also, the cone was of good quality and not tasting like plastic as they often do unfortunately.
