I usually come in for a Brazilian with Whitney, who is phenomenal, but last night, my appointment was with Idalys. I was a little nervous purely because of routine and familiarity. Idalys did such an amazing job, she was great! She used a mix of hard wax and soft wax. She made the experience really comfortable and safe. The service was done after 20 minutes. My favorite thing to do every appointment is go to the bathroom and look at the new affirmation card by the light switch. read more

I started as a customer at Velvet Waxing Studio several years ago, starting at the original downtown location where Tracy, the founder/owner, set the gold standard right from the start. That means A++ skill, professionalism, efficiency, and attention to detail. More recently, I've been seeing Emme at the Fitchburg location. I'll leave out the personal details of my services, but I appreciate that they work quickly, maintain truly exceptional cleanliness throughout the spaces, and are very good at reading the room--friendly enough to make you feel comfortable, but absolutely able to match the customer's preferred style. For me, that means less chit-chat and more "get down to business," especially since I go through these appointments without pain suppressants. Velvet continues to earn 5 stars. read more

I had my first appointment at Velvet waxing studio this morning with Idalys and it was incredible. I usually get a Brazilian at European Wax Center in Menomonee Falls, WI, but while being a student at UW this location is much more convenient for me. Velvet is located right next to Noodles and Company on State St, making the walk from campus very easy and not too strenuous. Velvet is very quaint and the vibe is girly and relaxing which eased my nerves before my appointment. I was pleasantly surprised that they had jewelry, candles, beauty products, and slippers for sale, and I purchased a pair of slippers for 50% off. The establishment is incredibly clean and well maintained, and Idalys happily greeted me for my appointment. Once the appointment began, she educated me on the difference between soft wax and hard wax, and that if I needed to change any aspect of how she was waxing me during the appointment she would be happy to do so. Idalys was so friendly and made great conversation during the appointment, and encouraged me to ask for a break if needed throughout the session. Idalys did such a great job and made my first appointment very pleasant. I am very happy with the results and now feel like the idea of getting waxed is much less daunting since I have Velvet close to me, it is incredibly easy to book an appointment online, and I know the experience will be relaxing and efficient. read more

Very nice place I felt very welcome. Cait was amazing and made me feel very comfortable with my wax! One thing I didn't like was the waxing room walls did not go all the way to the ceiling so people outside the room could hear. Other than that I would definitely go back again! read more

Had an absolutely amazing experience at Velvet. First time getting a wax ever. It was with Lily -- she made the experience so comfortable, not awkward, and smooth. I won't say it was painless, but it definitely wasn't as painful as I'd expected and everything went well. I'll be returning in the future :) read more

I had heard such great reviews from customers about this place so I decided to give it a try. I am a huge fan of sugar waxing, especially the Sugaring NYC locations, so I booked a sugaring underarm as and a sugaring Brazilian on a later date. At my underarm appointment the staff was great, the studio was very clean, and the general ambiance was nice. My biggest issue came from the wax itself. Usually when a wax is described as 'sugaring' the esthetician typically uses warm sugar wax in their hand and using the flicking method to remove hair (I prefer this method because it's great for thin hair and environmentally conscious). My esthetician however applied the not hot enough sugar wax with a wooden stick to my armpits and used a strip to take it off. Their website never specified how this service would be preformed so I assumed a 'sugaring' wax would be how it is typically done. Just a little disappointed with my results and the wax itself. I canceled my Brazilian appointment right after and I probably will not be returning. read more

They were super accommodating when I missed my AM apt and squeezed me in later in the afternoon. My first time here and my first Brazilian and it was a great experience! Felt super comfortable, and the space was so beautiful and nice. Super happy with the results even weeks later! Highly recommend. read more

I have had a myriad of Brazilian waxing experiences, but my experience with Lily was by far the best not to mention the smoothest outcome I have ever had. I was able to get a slot from a cancellation one day ahead which worked perfectly. It was a super hot day and they were so nice and offered me water, the facilities were lovely and clean and the experience was quick and calm and Lily checked in the whole time. I cannot recommend this place enough and hope to go back for the rest of my time in Madison! Did I mention the smoothest I have ever had! read more

I had a great waxing experience here and will certainly be back! When I moved to Madison, I started waxing with a familiar chain studio but became unhappy with the high turn over of aestheticians and declining service there; I decided to give this highly recommended local place called Velvet a try! If you're considering Velvet Waxing Studio or another studio in the area, I'd recommend Velvet! Lots of attention to detail, make you feel really comfortable, and spend much more time on the same waxing service-- way better experience! read more

Kelci is the best, I recommend her to the highest. I feel very comfortable and love her technique and advice whenever I'm there. You won't regret the treatment she gives read more

Although I was pretty satisfied with my 'Velvet' wax, I paid 50% more than I typically pay for a much more thorough (and painless) wax with my esthetician in New York. Although everything looked fine when I left the studio, I did have to do further clean-up with a pair of tweezers when I got home. However, for the options in the area, I think that the Velvet estheticians are still some of the best. It helps that both waxers I have had so far have been friendly and conversational - which always makes dropping my pants in front of a complete stranger a little bit easier. Too soon? read more

Came here today for a brow tint and wax with Megan. I was late because I got confused about the time and she was still able to accommodate me. I like my brows really really dark and even though it took a little longer she still did a great job and was super nice about it. Found out that her Husband is from Edmonton too! I was super happy and grateful that she was still able to fit me in even though I got my times mess up! Sorry! This shop is really neat and clean. The decor is pretty and the receptionist was really nice. They also have the bed for eyebrow waxing. This was good for me because I prefer to lie down when I get my brows done because I get less hair on my face and eyes. I'm here for another six weeks so I may stop in again before I head back to YEG. Thanks for the great service! read more

Velvet Waxing Studio - Brow tint and wax by Megan - Hair Removal Near Me - Madison, Wisconsin

I loved coming into Velvet. When I walked into the reception area, I felt as if I was transported to a spa and not in a waxing studio in the heart of downtown Madison. The person who checked me in was extremely nice and offered me water while I waited. To begin with, I have never gotten a Brazilian Waxing done before. The only thing that I've ever gotten waxed before was my eyebrows. The person who I saw, Tracy, was phenomenal. She made me so comfortable and was very easy to talk too. She made me feel at ease while getting my waxing done. For only $61, Velvet goes above and beyond to make any lady or man feel comfortable while getting there waxing needs done. read more

So happy with Lily's services. She is very professional and does an amazing job with bikini waxing and eyebrow tints. I would highly recommend her specifically. I have moved away and wish I could still see her! read more

Women of Madison, your waxing woes are over! Velvet Waxing Studio is here to meet all of your hair removal needs. The space itself is just gorgeous (and believe me, I was predisposed not to like it since it moved into the space occupied by my former favorite boutique, The Patricia Shoppe). Not only is the environment darling, the little extras go a long way. Upon entering the salon, you'll be asked whether you'd like a fresh flavored water. So far, I've had cucumber, strawberry and pomegranate. All were refreshing. Upon the conclusion of your appointment, you'll be offered a free piece if chocolate. Oh, and then there's the appointment itself. Everyone here is a waxing expert, though Maryna is especially good. My advice: if you're given the choice, try the hard wax. It'll change your life. All in all, a wonderful new addition to the Madison spa scene. read more

When I first moved up here, I was worried about not having a good place to get my brows done. I hate going to nail places that wax too, because I always breakout and my brows end up thinner than I'd like. I was used to getting waxed at Ulta with the Benefit Brow method, and it was definitely a (good) change of pace when I started going to Velvet. It's got a great atmosphere, with a hip design, and peaceful music. I always leave there relaxed (surprising after a wax, I know) and kind of wish they did massages too because that would be the kind of place I'd love to go to! I have now been waxed by three different women, and they have all been highly skilled and enjoyed all of them. This past time though I met Tracy, one of the owners and we discussed a plan to better fill out my brows. This is something that I have been wanting for a while now, but foolishly never spoke up. Everyone there has been great, but I was most impressed working with Tracy. She asked if I broke out after, tweezed a couple of other random hairs, and followed up the wax with cover-up and some lip gloss! I should note though these are all regular practices there, which just shows what kind of service you get at Velvet! Going to Velvet is well worth your money, and you get the best quality service. I'm surprised they don't charge more! read more

Velvet is wonderful. I bought a Groupon for a service there last fall, and have been going regularly since then. Tracy is amazing - she listens to what customers want, and executes it perfectly. The waxing itself is also about as painless as it can realistically be. She's also great to talk to, and an extremely insightful person. She's definitely made the typical 30-45 minute waxing session way more interesting and fun! The whole space is clean, hip, and comfortable. Online booking is easy and reliable, though you can book by phone or in person as well. After going to Velvet, I don't plan to ever go back to getting my eyebrows done in the back of a nail salon. read more

I never considered waxing until I was getting ready for my destination wedding. My first trip to Velvet was terrifying...I was sure it was going to be so awkward and hurt like hell. I had a velvet and underarms done...and it was underwhelming...in a very good way. In fact after my appointment I went home to wax my fiancés back with the microwave stuff from Target (he would kill me if he knew I put this on yelp), and after one swipe that nearly ripped his skin off, I insisted that we get right back in the car and go to Velvet...so we did! He was as pleasantly surprised at his experience as I was! The studio is vintage chic in design, somewhere I would love to sit and lounge and people watch. The staff is so professional, quick, and thoughtful. Nothing was awkward at all and nothing hurt...for real. I now go back before a trip / vacation and am so happy I found Velvet...I've heard horror stories about other waxing experiences so take it from me, go somewhere reputable! read more

I love this place! I have been to many other spas/salons and this is the best! 1. They do a great job. I generally see Megan, and she is awesome. However, once she had to miss my appointment, so I saw Maryna instead. She was just as great! 2. Super affordable. Salon/spas are probably 15-25% more expensive than Velvet. 3. Service is great. Megan will do her best to squeeze me in or move my appointment if I need to. They value their clients and are super accomodating! 4. The studio itself is adorable! Super chic and fun. I wish I could move in! I recommend Velvet to anyone in Madison looking for a good waxing experience, you won't be disappointed! read more

This place is awesome and I'm glad I found it! Good location, wonderful and talented staff, affordable services. I have and will be back many times! Underarm, brazillian, and leg waxes! read more

Went here to get an underarm wax for my wedding and had a very lovely experience. Their storefront is unassuming, but the inside is very chic and welcoming. The woman who did my waxing was very kind and professional, although she did make the mistake of assuming I was in for a brow wax (I get it, my eyebrows are fuzzy). However, all was forgotten with her quick and tidy waxing job, which was relatively painless and actually kind of relaxing. She also gave me a complimentary trim and minor clean-up tweeze of the aforementioned fuzzy brows so I wouldn't have to do it myself. Saved me some effort for the big day. The armpits were smooth and flawless for the big day, with no unpleasantness. It was pretty much everything you could ask for from an armpit wax. read more

Let me start off by saying by every aesthetician I have gone to for a variety of services at Velvet is beyond exceptional. All of the staff members are so genuinely kind and take the time to make sure that you are getting results that are up to your personal standards and the salon's high standards. Let me add that the studio is beautiful, well-decorated, and very very clean. I have had my brows done by Megan, Tracy, and Lily and felt that with all three of them, my brows looked phenomenal after and that I was well taken care of. Since then, I have continued going to Lily for both brow waxing and lash lift. Lily clearly strives to make your services more than just a service, but an experience. She is friendly, warm, welcoming, and makes sure that your results are nothing less than perfection. I am amazed by the results every time and will continue going here until I depart from Madison! read more

I am very picky about my eyebrows. Velvet can definitely be TRUSTED to do a good job, so when you're at school don't be afraid to go to Velvet. That being said, they aren't nearly as good as my lady at home in Atlanta or the place I go when I am in Chicago (Floyd's on Milwaukee Ave). It's $18-$22 for brows plus tip. read more

A wonderful experience every time. Online booking is easy and convenient! The Velvet staff is professional, friendly, and do wonderful work. They make clients feel very comfortable and the environment is warm and clean. They do thorough work and can quickly get you in and out of the salon. Prices are reasonable--some may find it a bit expensive but this is a case of you get what you pay for! Always a good experience at Velvet! read more

I have visited Velvet Waxing for the last few years. I am furry but cannot afford to go as often as I would like. When I do go I am always impressed with quality of work done and the warmth of the staff. They are welcoming and just the right amount of "chatty". For me Velvet Waxing is a treat and is well worth the money. I have tried some other places but have never been as satisfied as I am at Velvet. read more

Best Brazilian I've ever had! It was quick (less than 20 minutes) which is always a bonus...plus I left feeling EXTREMELY smooth and my skin felt conditioned, not dry. No stray hairs in sight! Their Brazilians are about $10-$15 more expensive than I usually pay in Chicago, but I don't mind forking out the extra money here because the quality is worth it! The only detractor I have, I didn't deduct stars for because I'm not sure if this has something to do with their services or if there's some other factor at play....but of all the Brazilians I've gotten, I did seem to see hair coming back much more quickly after this one (started coming in after ~1 week when normally I'm good for at least 2, usually 3 weeks). read more

By far the best waxing place in the area. Prices are a little hefty but they really do go above and beyond! I have had everything from brows, arms, brazilian and have had nothing short of good experiences. Online booking is very convenient. I highly recommend the sugar wax, not many places in WI use it and it really does make a difference. Unfortunately I have moved out of the area but I continue to make appointment anytime I am back in town. Haven't found any waxing place that even compares to Velvet! read more

Velvet is the best!! Tracy did a wonderful job with my brows and Lily with my bikini wax. Highly recommend this salon!! read more

Absolutely amazing experience! Very friendly and respectful. Very clean. I will definitely be recommending this place to friends!

If you need waxing done, RUN, do not walk to Velvet Waxing Studio. I went to Anaala Spa at Hilldale because I needed a last-minute appointment and regretted every moment (long, painful, not thorough at all). I will never leave Velvet again! I have been getting bikini waxes for almost a decade and Velvet is hands-down the best, most cost-effective, most professional studio/salon/spa I have been to. I always see Megan, who is extremely friendly, very experienced and does Brazilians super-fast and with the least pain I have ever experienced. Bonuses: online appointment-booking and ultra-luxe space. Thank you Velvet! read more

Got a Brazilian with Lily W, I don't usually write reviews especially negative ones but I wasn't very happy with the wax. It was extremely quick but the hair wasn't waxed with its root so it started growing back a lot quicker than it usually does. It's only 3rd day and I'm seeing growth that I usually notice only by the end of the week from other Brazilian waxing experiences that I've had. The price is pretty high and I don't think it matches with the service. Really was looking forward to liking this place but unfortunately won't be coming back :( read more

Velvet is such a wonderful studio! I had the absolute best Brazilian wax with Maryna. She went above and beyond to talk to me about previous waxes (what went well and what did not) and she altered her wax based on that. They offer traditional hot wax, hard wax, and sugaring, so you can find the best for your skin. She was very thorough but still quick and as painless as a wax could be. She did her best to keep redness down while still making her she removed all the hair. I will continue to book appointments with her whenever I can - although all the girls at Velvet are wonderful. read more

Madison has lots of waxing options, but I will only go here! My favorite and best waxes have only come from Velvet. All of the technicians use great technique which is the most important to me. They make sure each hair is completely uprooted and not broken in the process (and if there are any stubborn one's they pluck tediously). They have hard wax if skin is too sensitive to regular. They focus on pampering using hot towels and soft fabrics etc. Each of the girls working there is sooo nice and are extremely professional, letting you set the pace for how conservative the whole process is. And the best part is how efficient they are, you get in and out without feeling rushed. The salon is beautiful, they run on time for appointments, and BRI is the best technician there (go see her!). read more

Finally! A fabulous brazilian wax in Madison! I moved to Madison from San Diego a few years ago and could not find an estheician who could give a brazilian correctly. I finally gave up and started doing them myself (yeah, that was fun) until I saw the Velvet Waxing Studio. I figured since they do nothing but waxing, they should know what's up. And they do. It was fast, fairly painless, professional and clean. They wear gloves and do not double dip the wax (which might seem like basic sanitary practice, but given the horrible waxes I've had in Madison before, I thought I'd mention it). It's not overpriced. Many places want to charge $80 for a brazilian. I saw Kylene and she was great. They give you a tea tree oil wipe and hot towel afterwards which was a really nice touch. As someone who has had brazilian waxes done fore years, I can tell you this place is legit. read more

This place was having a spring break special-- $35 for a bikini wax--- not bad! Booked an appointment online with Kylene. The salon was really close to campus, right off of State St and I showed up was immediately offered water w/strawberries in it. Nice touch. Also of note: conciliatory chocolate bowl. Kylene was super friendly, I told her what I wanted and that I was pretty novice. The whole wax took about 15 minutes, and Kylene talked me through it. She was pro for sure and the wax was the least painful I've had yet. Turned out great! Definitely going back. Great wax. Super reasonable prices. Really close to campus. Awesome! read more

I moved to Madison and heard about Velvet through a friend. She recommended Maryna and I have to say, #1 what a great friend and #2 Maryna is AWESOME. What exactly do you mean by 'awesome', you might ask? She is quick, friendly, funny, and thorough. These encounters (read: brazilian waxing) are oftentimes awkward, uncomfortable, etc. but Maryna does her job and does it WELL. You're still going to feel pain but it will be over before you know it. The prices are slightly higher than what I'm used to paying back home but with service that excellent, I didn't even bat an eye. read more
