Every time I visit this location staff is very rude. I always ask "how are you?" which they either ignore or dryly respond. I'd assume this is a rather easy job since no one needs to wipe tables down or grab trays... Yet out of the 5 times i've visited they are always upset. Even if I manage to make conversation with them that seems to be a burden. People like nice staff, you could have the worst food in the world and people would come back just because of the service. Last night was not my first time at Velvet Taco. It was my 1st time (and last) at this location. I ordered a Fried Paneer taco. I have had this taco at other locations. The Fried Paneer taco had a piece of paneer floating in a puddle of something. I picked it up, tilted it, and liquid poured from it. I love Velvet Taco! I'm from Seattle and when ever we are in Texas we hit up a Velvet Taco. Each location has its own ambiance. I love the Elote dip, but beware it's not traditional Elote. Their guacamole is to die for. It has large chunks of avocado. Our group gets a lot of different things -- the majority of them have all been amazing. Keep in mind this is fusion food. I love velvet taco. I'm a fan. Probably always will be. Almost every taco on the menu is outstanding! This review is for one of their newest menu item, the birria duo. It's absolutely terrible. Velvet needs to remove this as it's a joke and reminds you of jack in the box's ¢99 taco, and almost taste like it too. It's skinny with very little filling. I didn't get any consume, and in my opinion, definitely not something worthy of velvet taco. I expected a stuffed , meaty and cheesy taco with consume, but naw. And this menu item is a "naw" too. Did not care for any that used rotisserie chicken. Chimichurri steak: steak was dry and perhaps that was why the taco was filled with way more rice than protein? Mexi-cali shrimp was probably the best of the bunch. Most everything we've tried at both locations tasted like it had been prepared days ago... dry meats, wilted or sad produce. This location is at Legacy West so the prices are set accordingly. They may be the same at all locations, this is the only location I've been to. It's at Legacy Food Hall so you order your food and wait to pick it up and find seating on first or second floor or outside. They have a good variety of taco's, the variety is more of the fancy-Austin type of tacos. I personally like taqueria's more but I'm all about flavor. I bought three taco's and also ordered a water bottle and it set me back almost $20 which is a little rich for a regular lunch. The taco's are close to twice the size compared to a regular taqueria. I first tried a chicken taco, they have four varieties and based on recommendation from co-workers I tried the spicy tikka chicken. The flavor was really good, good Indian flavor like you would expect and just about enough heat. I would have preferred chicken bites, it was like eating a chicken tender inside a taco. The second taco was a pork taco, they have three varieties and I tried the Cuban Pig. It's slow roasted pork with mustard and other items. I thought it was a little dry and was my least favorite. The third taco was a beef taco, they have three variety and I went with the brisket taco. It was really good, I loved the combination of flavors. The brisket was juicy and had a ton of flavor. It comes with red chili mayo, queso blanco and was a really good mix. I've only tried the Brisket taco and it' amazing! The beef is tender and juicy, the tortilla seems to replicate a skinnier version of a quesadilla because of the melted cheese, the pico de gallo def added the fresh taste. Overall I enjoyed these tacos so much! read more

These aren't traditional street tacos...and Legacy Hall prices are maybe $0.25 more than at Knox/Henderson. Quality? Same as what I've always been used to! We ordered takeout and the food was well-packaged and still hot when we got home. I got my go-to Spicy Tikka Chicken (fabulous as always) and tried the Nashville Hot Tofu for the first time. Umm, who knew tofu could taste like this?! Batter was just thick enough to stay on the tofu well and the Nashville Hot sauce had a great balance of spice and tang. I approve of the chicken tikka taco, but I'm Indian. If it had more spice to it, I would love it even more. It is basically a taco with basmati rice topped with 2 chicken tenders and then the tikka masala sauce. This location doesn't have a huge menu, but they had what I always come for. I'm surprised to see so many bad reviews, I had a good experience and really enjoyed the taco I got! I have been to the velvet taco in Dallas, a while ago, but remember liking that one as well. There is a limited menu here, but it makes sense. They have limited space, and can't fit as many staff members back there as they can in a full size restaurant. They pretty much offer one taco per meat option, plus a featured taco. The man behind the counter was very friendly, and was very helpful when people had questions about the menu. We went on a weekday a little after lunch, so my food came out pretty fast. I ordered the fried paneer taco, the only vegetarian option, and I was very pleased! It was a very Indian cuisine inspired taco. Paneer plus a tikka masala type sauce, and a tomato chutney with basil, great twist on a taco! I would recommend it even if you aren't vegetarian, good sized taco with lots of flavor. My one taco was $4.50, which is a bit pricey. However, it was big enough to fill me for lunch, so I was happy with it. The taco came with rice at the bottom and two chicken tenders on top. It was topped with Tikka sauce and some other white creamy sauce. The Tikka had a little kick to it and the chicken was tender. Overall, it was an awesome take on a taco. This was by far the best non-traditional taco I've had from anywhere. It was so good that I'll probably return to the food hall just for it. Whoever created this taco, I'd like to shake your hand. I love Velvet Taco and have been a customer of their Dallas locations for years. By comparison, their Legacy Hall location has awful service that completely ruined my experience. Every single time I go to a Velvet Taco I order the Chicken Tikka Taco, but sub Paneer for Chicken due to dietary restrictions. I've been doing this for years at the Dallas locations with zero problems. I asked for the same order I always do: the cashier lady seems to understand and nods her head. The order info pops up on the little screen, and I can see that she hasn't actually subbed Paneer on the order. I ask her again to sub Paneer, thinking she just didn't hear me. Again, she nods her head but the screen isn't changed. I'm getting worried at this point, so as I'm paying I ask her a THIRD time to please make sure to sub Paneer. Again, a nod from her and I specifically remember her repeating the word "Paneer". So at this point there really shouldn't be any confusion. I come home (was way too crowded at Legacy Hall to open the order/eat the taco there), and immediately notice my taco looks off. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt so I take a bite and... yup. Chicken instead of paneer. Despite specifically asking for paneer THREE separate times. That's $5+ and over 20 minutes of my life down the drain. read more
