Last night was not my first time at Velvet Taco. It was my 1st time (and last) at this location. I ordered a Fried Paneer taco. I have had this taco at other locations. The Fried Paneer taco had a piece of paneer floating in a puddle of something. I picked it up, tilted it, and liquid poured from it. Pretty much one piece of paneer and a tortilla floating in watery liquid. Legacy hall, great music, great drinks, extremely mediocre over priced food. Disappointing. Do better y'all!
I love Velvet Taco! I'm from Seattle and when ever we are in Texas we hit up a Velvet Taco. Each location has its own ambiance. I love the Elote dip, but beware it's not traditional Elote. Their guacamole is to die for. It has large chunks of avocado. Our group gets a lot of different things -- the majority of them have all been amazing. Keep in mind this is fusion food. It's not traditional Mexican food. The service is always great. I've never been at a location where it hasn't been good.
I ordered on DoorDash and the to-go packing kept my two tacos warm and not soggy. The Nashville Tofu taco is my favorite, the flavors are great and the crunch from the cabbage and pickles complements the taco. The spicy chicken tikka masala was also delicious, and only mildly spicy.
VT was recommended to me by several friends and it definitely did not disappoint! Tacos were unique and tasty. I meant to get 3 but ordered 4 by accident and was not complaining for that extra treat. Service was decent and vibes were chill. Order to table -- about 10min
This location is at Legacy West so the prices are set accordingly. They may be the same at all locations, this is the only location I've been to. It's at Legacy Food Hall so you order your food and wait to pick it up and find seating on first or second floor or outside. They have a good variety of taco's, the variety is more of the fancy-Austin type of tacos. I personally like taqueria's more but I'm all about flavor. I bought three taco's and also ordered a water bottle and it set me back almost $20 which is a little rich for a regular lunch. The taco's are close to twice the size compared to a regular taqueria. I first tried a chicken taco, they have four varieties and based on recommendation from co-workers I tried the spicy tikka chicken. The flavor was really good, good Indian flavor like you would expect and just about enough heat. I would have preferred chicken bites, it was like eating a chicken tender inside a taco. The second taco was a pork taco, they have three varieties and I tried the Cuban Pig. It's slow roasted pork with mustard and other items. I thought it was a little dry and was my least favorite. The third taco was a beef taco, they have three variety and I went with the brisket taco. It was really good, I loved the combination of flavors. The brisket was juicy and had a ton of flavor. It comes with red chili mayo, queso blanco and was a really good mix. The brisket was the only taco that really wow'ed me, there may be other combinations that are better than the chicken and pork taco's I had.
Due to the fact I used to eat affordable tacos in LA such as Ensenada Fish Tacos, Guisados, El Taurino, and Kogi Taco Truck, I didn't understand the fancy one like Velvet Tacos. But I had an opportunity to eat this one as my friend came from out of the town. Located at the Legacy Hall, the hotspot, popping, two stories, back yard with stages, it is easy to order having simple menus and boozes. I ordered #3 spicy tikka($4.75), #12 angus brisket($5.55). Incredibly delicious. Worth the prices. But I still love the affordable one that I had to go to the bathroom several times a day after eating.
Was in Dallas for the weekend and happened to stop by this place. Fish was delicious! Elote was also good. A little spicy but not too bad.
Spicy Tikka Chicken - the flavors are good but the rice can make it heavy. Still my favorite taco on the menu Cuban Pig - this taco is definitely more salty than the other ones. It is also more oily but still very good Slow roasted angus brisket - pricey but it's worth trying. The flavors of the avocado relish, red chile mayo, and queso blanco all compliment the brisket well Buffalo Chicken - my least favorite. I felt like the flavors did not work well together. Red coconut curry queso - I actually forgot I was eating queso because the red coconut curry flavors really come out. This has a nice kick to it and it's definitely something I'll order again!
The food is decent in taste but not for the price. I recommend trying it once but it better taco spots in Dallas.
I've only tried the Brisket taco and it' amazing! The beef is tender and juicy, the tortilla seems to replicate a skinnier version of a quesadilla because of the melted cheese, the pico de gallo def added the fresh taste. Overall I enjoyed these tacos so much!
I've been a fan of the Knox/Henderson location for years and was so excited when it was first announced that a Velvet Taco was opening in Legacy West. I'm sad to say it's taken me this long to finally try it because honestly, some of the lackluster reviews on Yelp really deterred me. I'm especially sad because I'VE BEEN MISSING OUT because I had a GREAT experience. I feel like some of the complaints I've read about are completely unwarranted; small menu? It's a food hall location...what do you expect? The other food stalls that have larger brick & mortar restaurant locations also offer a smaller menu. Pricey? These aren't traditional street tacos...and Legacy Hall prices are maybe $0.25 more than at Knox/Henderson. Quality? Same as what I've always been used to! We ordered takeout and the food was well-packaged and still hot when we got home. I got my go-to Spicy Tikka Chicken (fabulous as always) and tried the Nashville Hot Tofu for the first time. Umm, who knew tofu could taste like this?! Batter was just thick enough to stay on the tofu well and the Nashville Hot sauce had a great balance of spice and tang. If you're open to a queso with a unique flavor profile, don't miss the red curry coconut queso. So glad I finally tried out this location because we'll keep coming back!
Delicious tacos and excellent customer service. The manager went above and beyond. A text msg alerts you when you're food is ready and you can sit anywhere you like.

I've been looking forward to another Velvet Taco experience since my first opportunity in Austin and this location did not disappoint. Tucked in a collection of restaurants and bars (Legacy Hall), Velvet is one of two taco options in the space. If you love tacos but also a foodie... this is for you. The kitchen is fast with a vast array of seating in the shared perimeter. I'll definitely be back. read more

Quick and friendly service. Convenient placed by the shopping center. I got the steak taco. It was good, although I didn't care for the mushrooms. I'm sure if I am fan of the type of tacos. I was looking for a more normal chicken taco. But otherwise it hit the spot. read more

My boyfriend and I have an ongoing debate on which is better: Torchy's or Velvet Taco. I'm team Torchy's but I still enjoy Velvet Taco every once in awhile. My favorite is the paneer. You can't beat the atmosphere and 2nd story seating at Legacy Hall though so I'll definitely be getting more tacos soon. read more
Summer has begun and a teacher friend and I met up to celebrate! Velvet taco sounded like the perfect place and I was excited to check out their new location. The man upfront was not very friendly or welcoming and could tell we had never tried velvet taco- come on, give us the specials, give us the school. Nerp. No communication. No impressed right off the bat- I asked a few questions and he was pretty short in his responses. I tried to make small talk- Nerp, cut it out. I ordered the Cuban and the beef- OVER....RAAATTTTEED and expensive. My tacos were dry and needed a salsa dip that was fresh like pico de gallo - not happy. Nothing about my tacos felt like velvet- nor did my experience. Come on, now. Let's step up the friendly customer service, please please please. read more

Yummy tacos... just expensive tacos. We went to Legacy Hall to get dinner since we knew everyone would be able to find something... mainly thinking about the two littles age 7 & 4. They ended up getting noodles from an Asian place. Hubby & I got tacos from Velvet Taco. I had the Chicken Tikka & Fish and Chips. Hubby got the Buffalo Chicken & Brisket. We both enjoyed them but expect to pay at least $4.50+ per taco. read more
I'm surprised to see so many bad reviews, I had a good experience and really enjoyed the taco I got! I have been to the velvet taco in Dallas, a while ago, but remember liking that one as well. There is a limited menu here, but it makes sense. They have limited space, and can't fit as many staff members back there as they can in a full size restaurant. They pretty much offer one taco per meat option, plus a featured taco. The man behind the counter was very friendly, and was very helpful when people had questions about the menu. We went on a weekday a little after lunch, so my food came out pretty fast. I ordered the fried paneer taco, the only vegetarian option, and I was very pleased! It was a very Indian cuisine inspired taco. Paneer plus a tikka masala type sauce, and a tomato chutney with basil, great twist on a taco! I would recommend it even if you aren't vegetarian, good sized taco with lots of flavor. I think if your used to the full menu this can be kind of a let down with the limited options, but I still enjoyed my experience, and they are still delivering great food! read more
Note: This review is only for the chicken Tikka taco. I'm not sure if the other tacos here would live up to the five stars. After making the rounds at Legacy Food Hall, I decided to try a taco from this place. I was just too tempted by the chicken Tikka taco. Now, this is some fusion I can get behind! My one taco was $4.50, which is a bit pricey. However, it was big enough to fill me for lunch, so I was happy with it. The taco came with rice at the bottom and two chicken tenders on top. It was topped with Tikka sauce and some other white creamy sauce. The Tikka had a little kick to it and the chicken was tender. Overall, it was an awesome take on a taco. This was by far the best non-traditional taco I've had from anywhere. It was so good that I'll probably return to the food hall just for it. Whoever created this taco, I'd like to shake your hand. You're a genius! read more
Been wanting to try Velvet Taco for a long time now. We tried their food today at Legacy Hall. It was so delicious! We had the Cuban and Brisket tacos. My husband loved his Cuban tacos. My brisket tacos were absolutely delicious. I also had their elote which was amazing. I was sooo full. But I was also super happy. read more
I never had velvet taco until visiting this location and wow, I can't believe I've been missing out all this time! I had the two chicken options - the buffalo and the spicy tikka taco. The buffalo was good, but oh my the tikka taco was amazing. I wish I could eat 12 of them, they were that good! The guy at the counter was also fantastic - I appreciated his cantor. Definitely a great place for a quick meal if you want something good! read more

Jasper, I am sorry to hear about your experience recently at Velvet…
Two for one visit; go to Legacy Hall for weekday lunch and check out Velvet Taco. We had seen the new stand alone restaurant on Park Blvd but wanted to try this location first. Excellent meal. We got 4 different tacos. See photo. When you order they ask for your mobile phone number as they will text you when the order is ready. Next time we try the Park Blvd location. read more
