Brides-AVOID! Pretty bummed about the customer service here and lackluster work. I would not recommend here. Prepare for being taken late. Up to 45 min. Also the Deluxe is $5 more them advertised. Not good. Originally had a 2 pm apt we moved back. They let us know it would be a small wait but they could accomodate. Awesome. Different story when we came in and instead waited 44 min for the last of our group of three to go and they made the decision to start someone with a single service versus starting someone with two services first in our group. 1st girl started 20 min late, 2nd girl 35 min late, and myself over 44 min late. Poor planning and not what what I would of hoped for my wedding nails. The reviews seemed good so I thought I was okay. Service otherwise was blah. Got the "Velvet Deluxe". Far from deluxe unfortunately. Towels were warm not hot. Massage had no pressure despite two requests. Technique was the exact same up and down no variety. : ( Wished we weren't late then to the rehearsal dinner for poor management and unskilled techs for their most expensive pedicure offered. We were looking for a spot to get pedicures because our normal place was too busy. We decided to make a random stop in and we're glad we did! Great atmosphere, CLEAN and the owners that took care of us were very friendly. I want to say her name was Tracy, can't remember his name. We talked up how great the experience was right in front of them. When service is that good, you have to applaud it and let them know it's very appreciated. I'm personally going out in a limb and saying this was the very best and most relaxing experience that I've personally ever had getting a pedicure. And that's saying a lot! I regularly visited Velvet for 4-ish months, each time getting pedis and/or dip manicures. I stopped going because almost every time I went, there was an issue with the manicure. Either the tech didn't completely cover the natural nail with the color; or I received cuts around my nails (honestly, one trip saw 7 different fingers with cuts); or the dip, which could usually last more than 3 weeks, cracking one time after about a week and the next time after I believe 2 days (and no, it wasn't bc my natural nail broke- after the dip was removed, my nail was still intact both times). I will say I really enjoyed the environment Velvet managers have created. They take you on time and still accommodate if you're a couple minutes late, most of the nail techs are pleasant, they have a pretty good selection of colors, the services are reasonably priced, and I enjoyed their music and decor. I can't speak to their other services and I was really wanting Velvet Nails to be the salon for me, which is why I kept giving it more chances, but the issue just came down to the actual manicure I received. read more

I went in for my first time with my mom to get a pedicure. Honestly the massage seats weren't that comfy but I don't go to a nail salon for the chairs. The first thing I noticed was that the tools they used were in bags which is an awesome sign cause that means they take health seriously and don't reuse or at least sanitize the tools. They also wore gloves which I thought was awesome for the workers themselves. I ended up getting a hot stone pedicure. I really liked the fact that the guy who did my nails would ask about temperature and if something hurt while he was working with my hand nails. That to me showed that they cared about their customers. They take their time with every step of the pedicure and I appreciated that. I noticed for the girls in dresses they gave them blankets to put over themselves when getting a pedicure. I thought that was sweet and thoughtful. I've been a regular client for well over 5 years. Well before the pandemic hit I searched for a nail salon that demonstrated cleanliness, first time I came here it checked off all of my boxes. Very clean environment, disposable bags in the pedicure tubs, sanitized and sealed tools. Since the pandemic hit they've taken even more precautions to ensure everything is clean and they were providing as safe of an environment as possible. Tom and Tracy are the nicest owners I've met that show they genuinely care about their business and their clients. I have very long natural nails and they are not always easy to maintain, sometimes they break or chip and I can always go in and get a nail fixed no questions asked. I even once had an 'emergency' break hours before my flight to Vegas, Tom squeezed me in and had me good to go for my vacation. I've noticed quite a few reviews about them not painting a nail that has discoloration. This has happened to me before as well and it was entirely for the health and safety of me and my nail bed. Things happen, nails get bruised it's not the end of the world. Let the nail breathe and heal and get it done in a few weeks, it really is that simple. They could very easily paint the nail and take the money and not care or think twice about it but they don't. That's not the type of service they provide. When I find a trustworthy place that provides excellent service I easily become a loyal client so as long as they are in business, I'll be a client. read more

So VERY disappointed. Wanted to try this place out because i had a heard a few of my clients talk about how they had gone here. Was told i needed to call for an appointment, so I did. My daughters birthday party is this Saturday and I hadn't had my nails done in some time so I wanted them to look cute. Went in and asked for a pedi and no chip. DEMI was my technician. Upgraded my pedi from the basic to the signature for $35 because I wanted the "good massage" as the girl told me it had. The whole pedicure was rushed, the clean up could have been better, the massage was horrible. The whole pedi took about 20 minutes. Was taken over to the mani station where i had picked out a color to match my pedicure, and it wasn't even close to the color that was on the color swatch. Was done with the no chip in about 20-25 minutes with a color that i didnt even like, but brushed it off because i just needed it done and to look decent for the party. Fast forward 45minutes. Yes! ONLY FOURTY FIVE MINUTES. My nails felt tacky and kept collecting fuzz from my clothes, there was wrinkling and divots in ALL of my nails. Drove back over and was stared down by all the workers. DEMI "fixed" them blaming the wrinkling on their new top coat they started using. Okay, no big deal. But, instead of fixing my nails the right way, she buffed out only the top coat on the nails SHE thought were not looking good, reapplied what was SUPPOSED to be the color they used on me only to find out that it wasn't even close to my original color. Buffed my nails out again, cutting my finger along the way, reapplied about 8 more coats of my color, then used their "old" top coat to make it not feel sticky. WHAT A DISASTER. ‍ No big deal right? I'll just go somewhere else the next time.... well, i woke up this morning and my toe nail polish is completely smooshed and formed to the sheets of my bed. At this point i would love to go back and be like what the actual F@*K, but i dont think it would matter because I'm sure they'll blame it on the polish instead of the technician that worked on me. The toe nail polish was clearly put on extremely thick to the point where it NEVER dried from 12 hours ago. Disappointment is far from what i am feeling at the moment. Now i have to go spend more money to have this fixed before the party. My suggestion would be to avoid this place all together if you'd like a decent no chip or pedicure. read more

Nice salon. However....The young lady didn't do enough cleanup even after I mentioned problem areas and that my last pedi was bad and I needed a really good one this time. I upgraded to the $35 hoping for more attention to details but ended up having to point out all the things she hadn't done, like pushing cuticles, nipping loose skin, removing bits of old polish. She very reluctantly went back and got the scraper and nippers again to do what should have been done the first time, then while still leaving some areas not smooth, overdid one area and left a scrape. She didn't seem to get that my toes and feet should be smooth and clean all over, without bits of skin hanging off, like the big piece on the bottom leftover from a healed blister that she didn't even notice. I know it's yucky but that's the job. All that should have been done BEFORE the scrub, cream and wax, not after so all the good stuff got washed off. And the Massage was too short; more slapping than pleasant massaging. Serious lack of attention to the detail that we appreciate when getting a pedicure, and paying for the extra upgrade. And she scraped the heck out of the back of my calf with the scrubber block. Maybe it was just this tech but I wouldn't go to her again. Bummer. Would add to a nicer atmosphere to have relaxing music playing instead of what seemed to be country pop music with loud commercials. Perhaps a nice Pandora spa station instead. I recently found this place through recommendations of coworkers and ever since it's been my go to spot! The prices are reasonable especially for the quality of work and also being one of the only places in the area that do the dip powder manis. ($40 for the dip mani, I've paid $45+ every where else I've gone) When I get a dip mani done here it will literally last me 3+ weeks until I have to come back from my nails just growing out so long, the nails will still look amazing! I also love the atmosphere of this place. They always play romance movies and love song playlists. It's a very relaxing environment to get your nails done in! My recommendation is to make an appointment far in advance (like more than a couple days in advance or at least when they first open) because I have called the day of a few times and they've been booked. I really want to like this place, but I've been twice and both times were not great. The owner himself seems to be the person everyone enjoys. I'll try for an appointment with him for a last try. Pros: great selection, very clean and modern, they always have a good movie on Cons: the staff (minus the boss?) seem like they don't care about the quality of their work The first time the woman was rough. She didn't "place" my hands anywhere, she kinda tossed them in a general direction. For example, she'd paint a hand and then toss it towards the fan. Secondly, when she was putting the top coat on, I noticed the bottle said "base coat" which I pointed out. She said it was top coat and I repeat "that's not what the bottle says". Then she gripes about going to get a bottle that says top coat. When she puts me under the dryer I overhear her complain to the owner and I interrupt bc she's not telling the WHOLE story. Anywho, he came over and it all worked out. The second time the pedicure was eh. It chipped two days later and a couple of my toenails were trimmed crooked. She also didn't clean up around the nail bed. The manicure was not great either. She cut my cuticles way too low on two fingers and they bled. She didn't clean up the excess polish. There was an older woman getting her nails done next to me and her nail tech kept picking up her phone, texting someone, looking at pictures while doing the woman's nails. I asked her if it was a family emergency or something and she says no she's talking to her friend. Not acceptable to me, but she stopped checking her phone after that. read more

I booked this salon because of the good reviews and was shocked at how terrible my experience was. I made 3 appointments for 3 bridesmaids for nails and toes for 2:00. I stressed how important it was that I was done by 4 due to I had school. We all arrived at 1:50 and by 2:40 I still had not gotten anything done and they kept telling me 10 more minutes. I decided to skip the pedicure and just get my nails so I sat by my sister who was finishing up. The girl doing her nails rolled her eyes at her SEVERAL times and was giving her attitude for no reason at all. I then decided to get nothing done and get my nails done somewhere else. This whole experience not one employee asked why I didn't get my nails done or apologized for the wait or lack of pedicure. Beware!! If you make an appointment in advance, you will still have to wait. I may come back here if they hire a new lady who does full set nails, I refuse to get my nails done by someone so miserable. This was my first time here and I won't be going back. I had a no chip manicure and it was very rushed. It took less than half an hour. The polish isn't even up to the cuticle. The woman I had, Sasha, didn't push the cuticles back and didn't use any cuticle cream. She just cut them. I'm used to a manicure with lotion on hands and arms and then wrapped in a hot towel so the lotion can take effect, and THEN the manicure. Sasha just put a little lotion and then wiped it off AFTER the manicure. Then I paid with a credit card and couldn't add a tip. She told me to go to 7-11 and buy something so I could get cash! read more

I'm actually very surprised about the neg reviews on here. For those complaining about not getting their service done when they have underlying issues (blood blisters, possible fungus, etc.), I'm not sure why U would be upset that a nail tech does not want to apply product & cause U more harm than good on an area of your skin or nail?! Or why U would even take that risk on your own body. Take the Polish off over the winter, and you won't have to worry about "staining". You're right, they're not doctors, so they don't know if it's something medical or just staining. But your $40, even $100 isn't worth finding out it wasn't just staining & a tech made it "medically" worse. They are protecting U & protecting themselves if your body gets more affected by their service. It's common sense. I bet if Velvet applied products to your already problem area, the complainers would be the first to sue Velvet for the "medical" problem. Don't go into any salon & expect that a tech is going to apply products to an affected area of your body! At the end of the day, no they're not doctors, but they're also working on your greatest asset, YOUR BODY. So if they feel uncomfortable that "medically" they might make something that is already a problem even worse, how can you blame them? I'm not a "regular". I don't go every 2 weeks, but I have ALWAYS had a great outcome. VELVET IS VERRRRRY CLEAN. Probably why they won't work on you if something is infected. You're $ doesn't matter if the procedure is not sanitary. I don't go in there to chit chat or make friends, this is not a massage salon, and the quicker they get me in & out with great quality nails, the better. Velvet is a small salon, with QUALITY, techs. For several years of going there, I ALWAYS get a great tech. So I don't have to make sure 1 tech is available over another 1, because they're ALL great... unlike many other salons where you're thinking, "oh no I don't want that guy again, I'll wait for that 1 instead." That doesn't happen at Velvet. And if you don't want to wait places, make an appt. It's funny how people walk into a nail salon on a Sat afternoon & think they're waiting too long... duh. Love Velvet Nails. Not only is it the coolest name ever for a nail salon, I enjoy coming here because everyone is extremely professional, courteous, and makes you feel very welcome. I've been coming here for a few months, and everyone does a great job. My favorite tech is Tina. She's a perfectionist. Don't confuse her silence for being mean or aloof. It might take a few times for her to open up to you, and she is so kind to my little girl when she comes with me. She's a very sweet lady, and very focused on making your nails look awesome. Tom and Tracey are the owners and I saw them deal with a crazy irate and annoying customer today with pure professionalism and poise. This lady was seriously ranting for 45 minutes for no good reason and not once did Tom raise his voice or treat her unkindly. If I could give zero stars I would. The owner is rude. Since I moved out to oak lawn I have been coming here for anything nail related. I went in a couple weeks ago for a pedicure. My toe was stained from the nail polish I previously had on it. The woman giving me a pedicure called over the owner, who's not a doctor. In front of everyone at the salon he tells me I have fungus (went to the doctors they laughed and told me I do not it was the nail polish that stained my toe). And refused to paint my toes. Embarrassed me in front of the whole salon by talking so loud everyone could here and were staring at me. I told them to end the pedicure and I was leaving. As I was walking out the rude male owner in a mocking voice "have a good rest of your night good luck to you." I was recommended to try this happening nail salon out. Loved the dip on my hands. However, my pedicure turned out awful. The polish was uneven and looked like a kindergartner played dress up. When asked to repaint my nails there were no issues with that. However, second time around my toes still looked awful. I was told the paint looked so uneven because I previously had no-chip on my toes. I've gone from no-chip to regular polish before and never had that problem. Instead of addressing the issues, the nail salon owner blamed it on my previous manicurist at another salon and the method they used. Long story short, I thought I found a new nail salon.
