it was another slightly rainy day in Boston, but not so rainy to keep us in. mid-day, we found ourselves in the Somerville neighborhood of Veggie Crust, a vegan pizza joint with some really unusual pizzas on the menu. (i highly suggest you check out their menu online. it's expansive.) we split a large pie into 1/2 Garden Veggie Manchurian (my request) and Cauliflower Manchurian (mr.'s request). we swapped a couple pieces, and i couldn't claim either one was better than the other. they were both great! there was a sweetness to the Manchurian sauce that reacted differently with the items on each half of the pizza. really so very good both ways! Veggie Crust has a fantastic Vegan Bar menu listing a wide variety of fresh juices. i had a Mango Mania and my love had an Orange Pepper. the juices weren't cold. they were nice and thick with a touch of froth. perfect. great family friendly place. highly recommended. We ordered delivery, excited to have a veggie/vegan spot in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, the Soy Meat BBQ Pizza was sloppy with BBQ sauce that tasted like straight up hot sauce and just not enough cheese to justify that much sauce. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing. Willing to give it another shot if somebody else recommends/suggests it, but I don't think I'll be going out of my way to eat this pizza again. read more

I'm an ovo-lacto vegetarian, but considering cutting dairy out of my diet (or at least cutting down), so decided to check out the vegan pizza here. My partner and I ordered a half Cauliflower Manchurian, half Broccoli Spinach pizza with vegan cheese, and both halves were amazing! Surprisingly flavorful. As some other reviewers mentioned, it is a softer crust than some places, but I thought it was quite tasty (and I much prefer it to the overly charred crust of A4 pizza, which used to be located here). The one thing I didn't like--for a restaurant that has lots of "eco-friendly" signs all over the place, I thought it strange that they only used disposable dishes. The plates looked potentially compostable, but the utensils and cups were just plain plastic. it seemed both cheap and not really fitting with the image. But perhaps this is just a temporary thing until they get more fully established. read more

One of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in the Boston area. They served multiple people before us and did not check in as we stood around waiting. We waited 2 hours for our order, were given the wrong order, asked if we would accept it or wait even more. Terrible customer service to boot. read more

It was our first visit here after waiting with much anticipation for the opening and I'm glad we made the visit. The order consisted of the Cauliflower Manchurian pizza which had a wonderful crust and a nice bit of heat(spicy). My BF's son had the Cheese Marinara and enjoyed it tremendously. Our appetizer was the Broccoli Cheese Bites which to our surprise was deep fried, not indicate on the menu. I thought there would be melted cheese on broccoli pieces. The nougats were more cheese than broccoli and with it being deep-fried was, of course, tasty but rich for my liking. The lemonade had an off taste to it but there is a wide selection of creative items on the juice bar selection that sound interesting for the next visit. We brought home the leftovers, of course! We came on Sunday Labor Day weekend so it was slow and parking wasn't a problem but again probably because people were away. The place would be good for small parties as it's not a big restaurant, more small pub-sized. Not to be missed is the wonderful Dosa n Curry vegetarian restaurant next door. They are the owners of this pizza joint and we'll be back to either 'shops'. read more

Last night I placed an order for delivery for the soy bbq pizza with real cheese but it came with vegan cheese and my family wouldn't eat it. When I called today to tell them they sent over another pie free of charge and we loved it - the spinach feta - so good. This is the best vegan pizza I've had, hands down. They use Daiya cheese but what stood out for me was the crust. It is high quality, fresh and light. I usually judge a vegan pizza by the quality of the sauce but the crust was superb. They also offer coconut based nice cream but I did not have any so cannot comment on it but I plan on going again back for both. This is american pizza shop meets indian food but it is only depending on what you order. The owners seem to own Dosa n Curry next door also. However the food is vegan adn vegetarian pizza and has a lot of indian flavored options for topping. My husband and I got a half and half pizza and ate every inch of it. My teenager declared the Tomato and Mozzarella sandwich the best in the universe but the tween refused to eat anything but fries. The baby ate everything she was given. The owners are sweet and polite. It's very quiet and very small. They have amazing coconut ice creams. They are not coconut milk based but then flavored completely different, they are coconut based and you always taste coconut through the flavor. I love coconut so its awesome but I can see others being a little picky about it. My pizza half was the corn topping and OMG it was sooo good. I thought it seemed different and fun and ordered it vegan and was not disappointed. Think creamed corn sauce for pizza. It is really really worth trying. My husband wasn't a fan but I was and so was my teen. It is definitely a fun little culinary adventure to eat here. read more

Do NOT order delivery from here. It took over 2 hours to get our delivery, and then my order wasn't even right! I have food allergies and specifically requested certain items not to be on my pizza... and when I got it they were on there! I couldn't have eaten my food if I wanted to!!! It's rare to find a place that's able to pull off such non-traditional pizza toppings so successfully. The Pav Bhaji (potato and peas), the Manchurian Cauliflower, and the Roasted Eggplant are all seasoned to perfection. The owners clearly really care about getting both the tastes and textures right. I also recommend trying the Paneer cheese. I would never have expected it to work so well on pizza. (Avoid the fries, however. They're just frozen reheated nonsense. I have no idea why they're on the menu; they should just get rid of them if they're not going to do them right. Also, depending on who is cooking, sometimes the veggie pizza is watery. They usually do a good job of dehydrating the vegetables so that the pizza isn't a soggy mess, which is where other places often mess up the vegetable-heavy pizzas, but sometimes they still underdo it when they're rushed). read more

Luckily, the people who work here (and own it perhaps?) are super nice and the man who took my order over the phone was able to answer all of my questions. This is literally the best vegan pizza I've ever had! It is usually so hard to find vegan pizza in Boston, I had resigned myself to just eating pizza with just tomato sauce and veggies. But one of my vegan friends recommended it and we went with our two meat-eating boyfriends. My boyfriend's favorite food is pizza, and he LOVED it! We got the coconut corn and soy meat bbq (half and half) and it was amazing. The coconut corn is heavy, savory, and garlicky, and the soy meat bbq is nice and spicy. The seitan meat is also very good and the texture is spot on. I also had their vegan ice cream and it was delicious. We've since then ordered from here two more times and plan to eat here much more. The only complaint I have is that every time we've ordered delivery, we've specifically asked for no cilantro (bf hates it) but every time, it comes with cilantro. That's super frustrating. This is an awesome place and a must visit for folks that would like to taste the most popular dish for all age groups (Pizza) and the delicious Indian flavors in one. We were travelling there and decided to stop by and glad we did. The restaurant was full but they accommodated us in their sister restaurant next door. So if the restaurant is full don't shy off from asking to sit next door. We ordered the 3 different types of pizzas but the Paneer Tikka Masala ended up being the star. Though we had some Pav Bhaji pizza left over by popular demand ordered another Paneer Tikka Masala pizza. Would definitely go there again. read more

Really bad experience. Ordered delivery through their website and it took 2+ hours to arrive, despite calling them several times and repeated promises that the driver was less than 10 minutes away. The food was cold and rubbery when we got it. That said, they did offer us a full refund and we'll see if that comes through. If it does, 3 stars for trying to make it up to us. read more

Very disappointing. We went in there based on the fact that they have Indian style pizzas on the menu. Ordered the paneer tikka bbq and paneer manchurian pizzas. The paneer tikka bbq was not BBQed. It was just marinated in a weirdly sweet tasting sauce and put on the pizza. The manchurian one had a sauce on it that had absolutely no resemblance to the manchurian sauce you get it India.
