I get to try these meals sometimes via the soup kitchen I volunteer at. They're pretty good especially considering that we get the leftover meals and it means a lot to me that this company cares about reducing food waste. I don't really have a busy life so a meal delivery service isn't right for me at the moment but I'd recommend this to anyone looking for one, especially considering the issues with other big meal delivery services. read more

I gave it a try and had four deliveries. I'm waiting for my last one next week since I've already cancelled my account. Overall, the food was decent for prepared meals and met my dietary needs. However, there were two big issues that ultimately made me switch to another service. 1. The website The website is very confusing. When I tried to change my meals, the new selections wouldn't save. There is just too much going on, and something that should be simple becomes unnecessarily complicated. Eventually, I gave up and just accepted the preselected meals. And I used to be a web designer, so I generally know how to find my way around pretty much any technology. If I gave up, I can only imagine how frustrating it might be for someone less comfortable with websites and apps. 2. The biggest issue -- delivery This was ultimately the dealbreaker for me. My last three orders arrived so messy that I was actually disgusted to touch the containers. They are not properly sealed, so the liquid leaks out, the food gets shaken and mixed together, and some of the meals arrive looking like porridge. I had to wrap each container in plastic before putting it in my refrigerator because everything was wet and messy. The paper sleeves around the containers would arrive soaked, dirty and literally falling apart. I don't know if this is just happening with my deliveries or if other customers are experiencing the same thing. My most recent delivery did have some additional cushioning placed on top inside the shipping box, which was an improvement, but that doesn't really solve the problem. The individual meals still aren't secured inside the box, so they get shaken around during transportation and the contents leak and mix together. After three deliveries like this, I gave up. The food itself was decent, but the delivery and packaging problems were enough for me to cancel and switch to another service. read more

The food was good, but we needed more variety after awhile. Customer service is vwry responsive.

Your service was wonderful and I love your environmentally conscious approach. My email correspondence was superb. She was always so welcoming and responsive to my questions. Your delivery was right on target. Unfortunately, the majority of your meals were too spicy for me, which was the main reason I decided to drop the plan. Wish you much success going forward read more

I love the service (delivery and customer service) it's always top notch. The food is delicious and healthy. read more

This service has really good food and got me through some difficult times. Will definitely use the next time I'm not able to consistently cook for myself. read more

Incredible meal delivery service at a great price. Anything with the braised chicken is always such a hit.

The food is great, the reusable cooler bags are a pain in an apartment complex. I provided the intercom code and details of where to drop off and put the bag in the same place the first one was dropped off, but the second delivery driver must have mistyped the code and ended up leaving the delivery in a public space and not taking the first bag. Would try again if there was another option! read more

Pretty good the staff are helpful and nice. The I liked 5 of the 8 meals I received. The delivery scheduling and communication could be improved upon. For example I forgot to select my meals so they automatically sent the full menu to me but never sent a delivery confirmation. So I thought I just missed out that week even though they already charged me the morning if my delivery i got a text saying my order is 2 stops away... I wasn't expecting it but thankfully I was home when they arrived. I chatted with the customer service team and they explain that if selections aren't made they follow the regular scheduled delivery . So not a horrible inconvenience but still there was definitely a lapse in communication which if I wasn't home could have been bad because the food would have sat out and gone bad. read more

High-quality food, reliable delivery, and extremely responsive customer service. Web site could use some simplifying when it comes to things like the rewards program, but that's no big deal. Excellent service overall! read more

V&B is wonderful. Healthy and fresh, with great variety. sensitive to food allergies and great customer service. Ideal for parents who want easy healthy meals when they know their kids won't eat the same meals. read more

Customer service & website are top notch; deliveries are always smooth & on time. Food is very good quality.

As a loyal customer of three years--and as someone who runs a technology company--my experience with V&B is a case study in frustration. Let me be clear: the things that are operationally difficult, they seem to have nailed down. The food quality, creativity, and consistency are phenomenal (5/5). Managing the logistics of fresh food delivery is a massive undertaking, and they nail it. The customer service team is staffed with patient, helpful people who do their best to solve problems (5/5). This is what makes the fatal flaw so baffling: the ordering platform is a complete failure (0/5). From a business process standpoint, a functional e-commerce and subscription management system is a solved problem. This isn't uncharted territory. Yet, week after week, the system fails to save selections, loses orders, and creates chaos. It is maddening to see a company get the really hard parts so right, only to be crippled by a basic technological foundation. Your chefs, delivery drivers, and support staff are being let down by a system that should be straightforward to implement. V&B, please, prioritize your digital infrastructure. Your team and your customers deserve it. read more

Food was delivered with plastic in it. My dietary needs were not met. Allergans were put in my meals repeatedly despite my profile listing the allergans. It's exceedingly difficult to pay $162 a week for 4 dinners and 4 lunches only to find that care and attention is not put into the preparation of one's food. Customer service was polite and helpful. Clearly there is a major disconnect in the kitchen. Dishes containing chick peas weren't cooked EVER, this is all unacceptable. read more

Delicious and Refreshingly Unique! I ordered the vegetarian meals and was genuinely impressed. This has been the best meal service I've tried so far. The dishes weren't the usual tofu, chickpeas, or quinoa salads and curries you get with most vegetarian options. Their recipes were creative, flavorful, and full of variety--each meal felt like something completely new to me. Everything tasted amazing, and I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for high-quality, plant-based meals with a twist. read more

Long time customer. They provide great service and a wide variety of healthy meals. Very convenient way to start the week.

Vegetable and Butcher is a fantastic meal delivery service! I got the butchers box for lunches and dinners, and every meal was really good. Lots of vegetables, lots of flavor and excellently prepared meat in every meal. They are also packed with protein and other important nutrients. It's a little expensive, but would certainly be cheaper than eating out every day. I highly recommend V&B! read more

love the flavors! v+b makes it easy to incorporate more plant based meals and get more fiber!

I just tried one week so I have limited data. But the meals were bland. To be fair, they all seemed very healthy and I think if you ate them you would be in good shape and probably loose weight. But they were not tasty and needed more seasoning or something else to say the least. I did up the review to 3 stars as the business owner got back to me and was super responsive and polite! read more

I really enjoyed the meals. Most of the salads were not balanced enough, meaning there were just too many greens as compared to the other ingredients and dressing. But the meals were tasty and met my vegan dietary needs. read more

I love everything about V+B and am so sad to have moved out of the area. The customer service is unparalleled and the food is also fantastic :) I was always excited to put meals in the fridge and even more excited to eat them! Also maybe this is kind of weird but V+B made me like sauces more. I was never really a sauce/condiment person but theirs are so good that I learned there are sauces for me! read more

Great way to feel good about what you're eating ! Also customer service is responsive. Highly recommend

Really good customer service. Good, fresh meals, especially the dinners. Delivery experience was seamless for me as well.

I really love this meal service. The variety of meals is the best I've seen, and I genuinely looked forward to my meals each week. I tried it once with no animal protein, and then came back a few months later and tried the meals with protein. All were delicious and satisfying! I recommend it to everyone I know! read more

I have enjoyed V+B for many months. I appreciate the early morning delivery and the food is delicious. I never chose my meals because I wanted to be surprised. They were able to accommodate my plant-based diet which I appreciated. Their vanilla apricot bites are amazing! read more

V+B is great. They are reliable and were great especially when I was unable to eat dairy. If you are on a health journey and need some help, they are great to get you started to stay on track! read more

Loved this for a very busy season in my life when I was trying to eat healthy! Customer service was incredibly fast - personal - food is always on time. And there were many meals I loved!! I've stopped for now, but would definitely come back again. read more

I don't like having to schedule a separate bag pick up when I used to be able to put the bags out for pick up with my delivery. I also liked the old portal better. I don't want to have to filter for the types of meals on my plan. While I like many of the meals and that everything is fresh, the order / pick up process is having me reconsider if it's worthwhile when I often skip weeks because there are not enough meals on Monday that I want to order. Thursday is too late in the week or how I use the meals for weeknights. read more

I have been using vegetable and Butcher for about a year now. They have a lot of great healthy local options. Delivery is generally pretty seamless. A big plus for me is that everything is gluten free which makes it so easy to choose a meal. Definitely recommend for folks who arehealth forward. read more

Most of the meals had a lot of good healthy ingredients so I would definitely order again - they made it quite easy to manage. The second week was too hearty for my taste but I may have missed choosing my meals. Delivery was great and especially when recovering from health issues! read more

quality food, easy online platform for ordering and delicious meal options! I also love that I'm supporting a local business that also sources food locally. read more

Pros: Nutritious, well-balanced vegan meals with attention to allergies. When my meal required a substitution due to a food allergy, I was able to select from a few other options. Compostable packaging was a plus. Helpful and responsive customer service. On-time delivery. Neutral/Cons: A couple meals were on the bland side, but easily fixed with some added heat/spice. The energy bites were too sweet for my taste (and melted together upon delivery despite it being winter - but no big deal). The website's user interface took a minute to get used to, but it was straightforward enough. Overall, these were small things that didn't impact my level of satisfaction. This was an awesome option for post-surgery recovery and made life a lot easier to not have to think about meals! I most appreciated the nutritional value and vegan options. read more

V + B is the 3rd food delivery service I've tried (also tried Daily Harvest and Hello Fresh) and what they say is true: 3rd time is a charm. Yum! I feel like the veggie meal plan was made just for me. Spices and herbs = perfect. Portion sizes = perfect. I'm not even going to look at the choose meals option each week because I want to be surprised now. Color me impressed! I'm pretty far out in the 'burbs, and the deliveries are great, the customer services is great, and as I mentioned...love the food. I'm a cancer survivor (wish me luck for long-term!) and I love that the food is nutritious, local, and ethically sourced. And compostable containers? Yes! Congrats Turner and Adriane for your business dream come true and ongoing success! read more

I really want to love V+B but there is definitely room for improvement. Even with my 3 stars, I'm still rooting for them. Pros: It's a local small biz which I always appreciate. The meals (speaking for lunch/dinner) are always super fresh and out of ~10 deliveries, there was only one recipe that I didn't love. Cons: I think the portion size for dinners could be increased, maybe by half a serving. I'm often not fully satisfied. Would love to see more protein options for vegan meals other than tofu, which is offered the most. The user experience on the website is horrible. I've had countless issues with navigating subscriptions, skipping meals, erroneous charges, and applying discount codes. It would be great if they sent reminder emails to pick your meals each week before the deadline like other companies. I'd also love more than a 5 minute warning that the delivery driver is arriving. Overall, it's a great option, nutritionally, but the cons don't make it worth the price for me. read more

Food is unique and adds great, healthy variety to my diet. Always had excellent customer service experiences too.

Great food service. Very responsive staff. Fresh foods and prompt delivery. Would get 5 stars if options where available which do not include raw onions or scallions or shallots. I can't eat these due to allergy read more

Good meal service that provided good options during my surgery recovery. Salads were always better than the cooked items options.

The food tastes amazing and is truly fresh! The delivery is early in the morning so I can take my meals to work

delivery was very easy and organized. I liked how they come during the night. Food was decent, some hits and misses.

If you don't enjoy cooking and want a balanced diet without eating out all the time, I recommend Vegetable and Butcher. It offers a weekly menu of gluten-free and diary-free meals and provides a choice between vegan and meat options. I am very glad to find this great home delivery service in the DMV area. Meals are delivered to your door two or three times per week. The food is delicious. I love that Vegetable and Butcher provides nutritional information of each meal and for an extra fee, it will recycle the used containers. read more
