My dog and I getting treated on a comfortable couch where she was able to next me the whole time.

Unfortunately I had to take my dog to the vet last night because she had I horrible ear infection. I walked into VEG and was instantly treated with respect and compassion. The receptionist was wonderful and helped me through all of my paperwork. The vet techs and nursing staff were attentive and efficient. They instantly took a swab of my dogs ears so they could get a culture while I was still doing the paperwork. Dr. Raja came by and took the time to listen to me and get to know my dog. He even went over to confirm the nurses analysis of the cultures. He had a wonderful bedside manner. We were able to sit in the open layout room on a couch together while a nurse carefully cleaned out her ears and administered antibiotics. I was with my dog at every step in the process. I would 100% go back there! I hope we don't have any more emergencies, but if we do, you can find us at VEG Cos Cob!

very caring for my new pup Jasper after a mirror fell on his hind leg ! they walked me through each procedure ! I will say I wish I had insurance as the cray was 600 dollars . sigh the doctor was excellent as well as the young vibrant happy staff ! 5 stars for their love of my fur baby!!!

I can't say enough positive things about our experience at VEG at the White Plains location in December 2023. Our almost 10 yo standard Goldendoodle (115 lbs!!), Finn was acting strangely on the evening of Dec 21st...couldn't settle and then began to vomit white foam. I had a feeling it was bloat (twisted stomach) l, which can often be fatal, and quite quickly. We jumped in the car with Finn and rushed up to VEG. We had called ahead so when we arrived, they addressed Finn by name and took us right in to be triaged. I was a hysterical mess and members of the team brought me water and lots of tissues while others were assessing Finn, getting IVs started, then off for x-rays to confirm it was bloat, which it was. We discussed options and they were good enough to take precautionary x-rays to determine if Finn, being a senior dog, had anything else going on like tumors or other issues that might have prompted a different treatment decision. He was pronounced otherwise healthy, so we, of course, wanted to move ahead with the surgery. The only awkward part was them having to determine if we had the resources to cover the cost, and given it would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 10K ( and no pet insurance ), we needed to apply for financing via CareCredit. It was very hard to concentrate on that while also staying present to Finn. Thankfully, financing was pretty quickly secured, and Finn was then prepped -shaved, intubated, additional lines started, and we were able to be by his side for the entire pre-op process. We were then invited to observe the surgery through the large glass window along the back hallway. That experience might not be for everyone, but my husband and I did want to observe. It was reassuring as we knew what was going on every step of the way and the team gave us regular "feedback" via "thumbs up signals". One of the staff who was going off duty spent about 45-60 minutes watching with us to explain things and answer any questions. The surgery started around midnight and was 3.5 hrs long. They had prepared us that they might have to remove his spleen, as it could have been compromised (also raising the total cost) but happily, his spleen was in good shape! We stayed for post-up assessments and the insertion of a feeding tube. We all got him settled in the XL cage, and we wearily, but totally revved up, headed home to get a few hours sleep before heading back to check on him and spend some time the next morning. He was so happy to see us...they encouraged us to work on getting him to eat as he would not eat for them...but I knew that the Snyder's mini pretzels at the snack station would get him going and they did! We were able to walk him outside for exercise and encouraging him to do his business. That was a fail, but after we had left, one of the staff was successful. We received a call in the early evening that he was ready to go home! While nervous as to his care when we got him home, we couldn't believe that he was in great enough shape to be discharged. E.V.E.R.Y S.I.N.G.L.E person we interacted with from the person at the a front Desk, the Vet Techs to the Vets were amazing! Their evident knowledge gave us confidence and helped to calm us down, their bedside manner with Finn AND with his humans (US!) was first class. When you need an emergency vet, you know it's going to be an emotional and financial ordeal, but we received absolutely the best care, and 7 mos later, Finn is doing great and enjoying his senior years being loved on and spoiled with treats and toys! A huge, heartfelt thanks to everyone at VEG for saving our beloved boy's life, allowing us more time with our precious furbaby!

Ginny simply would not be here today without the incredible skill, dedication, and compassion of the CUVS teams. Dr. Forman was exceptional, always taking the time to explain every detail and support us through Ginny's two surgeries and ongoing treatments. Dr. Bentley and Dr. Morgan performed the surgeries that quite literally saved her life, and we will be forever grateful. During Ginny's two hospital stays, the Internal Medicine team and nurses cared for her as if she were their own, giving us peace of mind during some of our darkest days. Dr. Wynne also went above and beyond by addressing secondary issues during her recovery. We will always be grateful to everyone at CUVS for giving us more time with the cat who means the world to us.

Warning, long post…read more Do not take your pet here unless you want them to die. My poor sweet cat, Artemis, died in agony less than 24 hours after a procedure at Cornell University Veterinary Specialists. She was hospitalized multiple times for evaluation of weight loss and GI disease. On June 16, she underwent endoscopy with biopsies and a liver FNA with Dr. Forman. I was told the procedure was uncomplicated and that she was stable and good to go home. This was strike 1, they discharged her too soon. After discharge, she was clearly not okay. On the drive home, I noticed intermittent wheezing. Once home, she became progressively lethargic, hid from us, vomited, had worsening abdominal distension, and appeared to be struggling to breathe. I called the hospital because I was concerned about her respiratory status. I was told these signs could be related to anesthesia and her anti-nausea meds wearing off and that I should monitor her. As a physician, I knew better. I ignored that advice and brought her back to the ER, which I ultimately regret. In the ER, I met Dr. Zenobya Clarke, who was taking "care" of Artemis. She confirmed that she was in respiratory distress and gave her butorphanol (FYI, pet owners cannot observe the treatments, pets are taken to a back room while we are made to wait in a separate room for updates). She disclosed that she accidentally gave "double" the dose, and when I asked her for the exact amount, she said she gave 1 mg/kg of body weight, when the typical dose is 0.2 mg/kg. So she overdosed her by 5 times, not double like she said. When I mentioned that, she acted flippantly like it was no big deal. Strike 2. When I received her medical records after her death, turns out she had actually given 2 mg/kg, so she gave 10 times the amount in an already sick cat. A medication error of that magnitude should never happen. She told me Artemis would be admitted to the ICU and said she looked stable so I could go home. I asked to visit her before I left and noticed that she was open-mouthed breathing and in terrible condition. She was bradycardic and hypotensive on the monitor, none of which was mentioned to me. Strike 3. The vet swore she looked ok just before, which I find hard to believe. I had to point out how unstable she looked. Throughout the visit, Dr. Clarke was callous, brushed off her errors, and seemed like she did not know what she was doing. I found out after the fact that she was a resident with seemingly no oversight. Despite treatment, Artemis' condition rapidly deteriorated. She developed severe respiratory distress, began vomiting blood, and we made the heartbreaking decision to euthanize her to end her suffering. She was the sweetest, gentlest, most affectionate cat, and to see her die in such a horrific way was devastating. I understand that not every patient can be saved. What I cannot understand is how a patient who was reportedly stable enough for discharge could deteriorate so dramatically within hours, why my concerns about her breathing after discharge were dismissed initially, and how a 10-fold medication overdose occurred during her care. Instead of celebrating my upcoming wedding in a few days, I was forced to say goodbye to the sweetest cat I have ever known. I am left with profound grief, unanswered questions, and a complete loss of trust in a hospital I believed would provide the highest level of care. On top of that, I spent almost $15K at Cornell only for them to ultimately cause her death at their neglect. Artemis trusted me and willingly went into her carrier. I had to return home with an empty carrier and a broken heart.

In the past we went ton other emergency vets and unfortunately it was always a long wait, you were away from your dog the entire time, and they wouldn't release your dog to you until after you paid. VEG is different than all those places. We were seen immediately and while they do have an open concept ER, they gave us a private room just in case. The nurse (Diana) and the vet (Dr. Schwartz) were all incredible. They took such good care of our dog and us! They allow you to be with your pet during X-rays which I found amazing. No paying first then waiting for your pet to be discharged. You're as hands on as you're comfortable being. Amazing place.

The behavior this practice has exhibited has been avoidant, evasive and disappointing. I called distressed after my dog was having complications healing from surgery after a lipoma removal. We arrived on a busy Sunday and were taken at the end of a triage. During our time there I voiced to MULTIPLE techs that my dog was bleeding through his gauze. 2/3 responses were a deadpan stare and the words "ok". It took 3 times of me asking/ pleading for someone to listen to me. Even then I was armed with loose gauze and a wee wee pad. When we were finally seen I was so relieved i let this all fall away. I was so happy my pet was taken care of I went home following their orders and protocol. The next day I realized all the sutures at the site had fallen out and we were back at square one after spending hundreds of dollars. Naturally I was upset and placed a call to the location. I was placed on an infinite hold 3 times with no answer until i called from my friend's phone to which they picked up immediately. I have been calling every day since Monday with not a single person giving me a call back or without any financial compensation for the negligent job they did. I have given them since Monday to give me a call back and fix this. I've called every day without a call back. So if you don't care about your pets or spending unnecessary money this is the place for you!

Here's something to consider. When Oreo was euthanized I took him here and requested a private cremation, paw clay print and fur, all included in the price. Jeter passed away at home so it was a private cremation only. I ordered the paw clay print too. The new thing was I had to call Final Gift (https://www.finalgift.com/) the following morning and tell them that I wanted his fur. When I called Final Gift told me it would cost $25 to get me some fur. Seriously? The amount you give for $25? Had I know this prior I would have cut all the hair I wanted for free. They get you through their grief. I gave this feedback to both Final Gift and the hospital, it's only right that people know this before hand so they can make the decision. We drove from Brooklyn to see DR. TIM CHAN, THE DERMATOLOGIST, because the excellent ER vet we saw at VERG, the best ER in Brooklyn, recommended him (he was a resident at Tufts when she was a grad student there). Hot tip: Dr. Chan is newish to the practice so at present you can get in with this brilliant, research-oriented yet utterly humanistic, thorough AF, compassionate, personable dermatologist much quicker than you can at NYC specialist clinics like Blue Pearl (obviously if you're local, even better!). It took us an hour and 15 minutes to get to VCA from Park Slope, Brooklyn (it would taken us an hour to get to the Upper East Side after parking so it's not that much of a further schlep after all). After going to Dr. Chan, I wouldn't feel comfortable going to anyone else for my animal's dermatological care (who knew that veterinary derms were ear specialists)? We'd been through the wringer when we got to VCA. Three generalist vet appointments and two ER visits and I felt nothing was resolved prior to the visit. Initially, there had been just a clear discharge and some head shaking but when the ear infection recurred, our little bunny of a pussycat was suffering from vestibular issues (extreme dizziness causing constant falls, bugged out eyes, and a head tilt) and the ER doc at VERG had strongly recommended we visit Dr Chan given that every time he went off an antibiotic, he'd immediately become symptomatic again. Dr. Chan went over pros and cons of different treatment options. He detailed the condition of Faunti's ears so throughly. He used a video otoscope to examine Faunti's ears. Generalists don't have this equipment and they were repeatedly unable to detect the state of one of Faunti's eardrums (whether it was in tact or completely ruptured) and Chan was able to determine its condition (if the eardrum is ruptured, ear cleaning at home isn't possible) and to get more literal insight into what was informing the recurrences. Chan has a delightful bedside manner and he conveys things cogently and intelligibly to dumbasses like myself. He knew so much about the anatomy of the ear of course and took into account every last variable of the backstory to make his recommendations. I was so so impressed by this doctor! I kind of wish he also practiced general veterinary medicine cause I'd schlep up to VCA for my little strudel's general vet care. A great thing about VCA is that they have an on-site CT scan should one be needed. I'd discovered that not every dermatologist I was considering had a CT scan on-site. If they don't, the animal has to go under anesthesia twice at two separate facilities should a CT scan and then a deep ear flush be warranted. VCA is a one-stop shop, as they have all diagnostic radiological equipment on-site. The nursing/vet tech, and front desk staff at the practice are absurdly wonderful. The place is also spotless. Shout out to Adriana and Kristina (nursing/vet techs) who are GEMS. They made our elderly cat feel like he was the belle of the ball, even while he was undergoing a fairly uncomfortable ear-cleaning. By the end, I felt hurt and embarrassed that Faunti didn't seem to want to stop hugging Kristina in order to go home with us! I'm like, "Bitch, make it seem like you love us as much as we love you!" But seriously, Adriana did a very comprehensive intake with us (sorry I babbled, you were so patient and asked such great questions) and was so gentle with Faunti. Kristina gave us great pointers on how to best dose, clean ears, and clip nails at home. VCA manages your expectations regarding billing (they send you an estimate, which includes a high and low of what you can expect to pay) and I was not shamed when I asked if there was a less expensive treatment option. Regarding cost, I didn't feel like anything was tacked on to pad the bill (and I have felt that way at times at other veterinary offices). What we were charged was totally fair if not on the low end of what I was expecting to pay given the quality of care and Chan's technical capabilities. We also have a very detailed estimate of what the next possible procedure will cost if Faunti suffers another recurrence. We've been in a two and half month nightmare with this situation and we finally found someone who could guide the ship to safer waters and for that we are infinitely grateful! Sorry for this dreadfully boring and meandering review if you read this far. I think it's safe to say I'm a fangirl of this doctor and his practice.
