I took my cat here to get his leg checked out after he got stuck in some furniture and was walking gingerly. The care we got here seemed very good - it just took 6 hours from entry to exit. It was 4 hours until he was seen and then it cost $1k for an xray, visit and medication. Thankfully he was ok. I rushed my senior yorkie to MedVet Norwalk on 3-8-26 after he suddenly collapsed. We waited 6 hours to have the Emergency Vet inform us that he was severely anemic and they detected a heart murmur. His red blood cell count should be 35. Our boy was at a critical 9! We had no idea what this meant. She advised us to make an appointment with the inhouse Internist immediately for further testing. We paid the $1,637.02 but, left with no treatment plan and lots of questions. On 3-10-26 I saw Dr. Rob Frisher. He recommended bone marrow testing or surgery to remove a small mass on his spleen. He then advised me that I would have to see a Cardiologist first to ensure that my pup can go under anesthesia. I asked if there was something we can do in the interim because he was so lethargic. Dr. Frisher advised that treatment can't be given because the cause of the anemia is unknown. I asked about a blood transfusion and he stated that it really wouldn't help because his case is severe. I paid another $1,317.00 and once again left feeling extremely helpless and confused as to why immediate help couldn't be given. As per Dr. Frisher's recommendation, I went to Guardian Veterinary Specialists in Brewster NY to see Cardiologist, Dr. Jonathan Goodwin. Thankfully my Pup's heart murmur was fine however, he was very worried about how severe the anemia was. He suggested an immediate blood transfusion. After his heart appointment, he was immediately taken into Triage. After 2 nights in the hospital and 2 transfusions, his red blood cell count went from a 9 to 18. Guardian Vets saved my pup's life! We were given a treatment plan and as of this morning his red blood cell count is 26!!! He's back to eating, barking and has quality of life. The fact that the ER doctor and the internist at MedVet didn't suggest a blood transfusion is beyond negligent!! The only positive thing that came out of this nightmare was Dr. Frisher's recommendation for Cardiology at Guardian Vet. Center. If you think your pet may have a serious condition, do not take them to MEDVET in NORWALK. read more

I was visiting my son away from our regular vet and the ability to make my dog's regular food. Thinking Farmers Dog was Quality food with similar ingredients I transitioned her to Farmer dog. But after a couple of day my dog was vomiting and refusing to eat. I felt it was digestive trauma from switching dog food from homemade to the farmers dog food ( which she wouldn't eat) but was slightly concerned she had eaten rat poison at my son's new residence. To ensure I eliminated the poison possibility I took her to med vets. They took X-rays to assess if a blockage existed. The vet said it was possible. They prescribed anti nausea and appetite stimulant med s, rec'd a bland diet. She still refused to eat and was throwing up next day so I took her back. They took another set o f X-rays but the radiologist said X-rays were normal. Then she started having diarrhea. Still not eating much. Continuing bland diet and meds, with no result I decided to try an antidiarrheal, pro pectalin every 8 hours Within 24 hours she was fine. No sign of gastroenteritis or pancreatitis, as the diagnosis the Med Vet team scared me with. What a waste of hours of waiting and money plus X-ray exposure to my dog. I made her a batch of her regular food and gave the farmers dog fod away after her symptoms abated. I think MedVet goes to extremes to ramp up charges when a simpler plan would have worked and not cost $2200 read more

We have had to visit MedVet twice this year, and each time they have impressed us with their compassion, kindness, and support. The entire team is wonderful, and they CARE about pets. Whether it's a reactive dog with an injured leg (they provided help, and the name of a great trainer we now love), or an elderly dog who needs a little TLC (they were so thoughtful and sensitive), I can not recommend them highly enough! read more

I can't believe I haven't yet left an updated full review for these folks. Unfortunately we have had a few emergencies over the years and EVERY SINGLE TIME the staff from the front desk to the techs to the doctors have treated our pets and our family as if we were their own. I honestly cannot say enough good things about them. The care itself has been positively top notch and NEVER ever rushed. They also do not go insane (like Cornell cough cough) and recommend any unnecessary testing in order to cover their butts. Every single person our family has encountered over at MedVet gets 5 stars from me. I wish I could give them more. Most recently, we brought in our dog because he was limping and it turned out to be a skin infection. This day proved to be exceptionally long because they were extremely busy but you know what? I embraced every moment. Their triage is tops and dogs in crisis absolutely need care more urgently than a dog who is stable and turned out to only have a skin infection. I'll share another story: A while ago, one of our elderly cats very suddenly crashed. She was bouncing off the walls as usual, but the next morning she was in crisis. We raced her over to MedVet. We were all beyond shocked to find out she was riddled with cancer. It made no sense. She had a complete physical less than a year before, her energy was always high and she always ate like a champ. To say we were devastated was an understatement. The entire family was with us and as we sobbed and wanted to take her home to love her up for as long as she had left, the issue was that she needed oxygen at this point just to breathe. This was a hard and fast crash, something I've since learned isn't uncommon with cats. MedVet allowed us all the time in the world that we needed with our cat. The techs could not have been more loving and supportive. They continually checked to make sure our cat was comfortable and I could feel his worry. And every single tech as well as the doctor treated my questions with love and empathy. We all still grieve to this day, but thank GOD MedVet has a staff that deeply cares. They held our hand tightly and genuinely which can be a rarity these days. MedVet is a blessing for our community. There's a huge parking lot in front, it's easy to get to, and you can race right in if needed. While I've never had to do this, I would suggest that if you have a situation that is urgent and critical, give these folks a call when you're on the way because these are the type of people who would prepare for you. Their pricing is fair. It is a 24/7 facility and folks don't realize just how expensive it is to run a clinic like that. But, they are also extremely mindful when it comes to only doing what is necessary for the pet which is HUGE. Thank you, MedVet. You've always been there for us in our hour of need. A few weeks ago we had an appointment with Karah Burns DeMarle for my dog. She has IBD (inflammatory bowl disease) and needed new treatment. It was our first appointment with Dr. Burns, she never saw my dog before. I did share my dog's difficult times with drugs; lots of side effects and intolerant. The appointment went well and she started her on 7 (!!!!) new drugs one was immunosuppressive. I started with the immunosuppressive after I finished with the 5 days treatment of the other drugs, and as soon as I started my dog has had horrible side effects I called right away and asked to talk to Dr. Burns. She wasn't around and the broken communication started: I spoke with one of the nurses/technician he texted Dr. Burns and read the response. The immunosuppressive was stopped and my dog went from bad to worse. In the next couple of weeks I've asked that Dr. Burns will call/text/email but none has happened, the only communication was through one of her team. At one point he said that Dr. Burns asked that I will increase the steroids to 3 a day - that 3 times what she's taking now and she has had problems with that in the past. I refused to do so and asked once again that the doctor will call me. They promised that she will give me a call.....in a week. I took my dog to another vet and paid for an emergency visit. Dr. Burns never called. This is NOT precising medicine, no dog (or dog owner ( should go through something like this: being ignored by a vet that you paid a lot for. More than $1200 went down the drain + another $700 for emergency appointment, but more importantly, my dog got WORSE under her care, or the lack of. I will never go back to this place ever again. read more

The team here is truly remarkable! We brought our dog Libby in for a liver tumor surgery after another board certified surgeon opened her up and deemed her inoperable and her situation imminently terminal. Medvet was incredibly flexible, did important testing promptly (complex CT scans) that the other hospital did not or could not do, and was able to successfully remove our dog's tumor. The staff was incredibly professional, thorough, and compassionate (shout out to Rachel and Dani the nurses for the surgery team, and Nicole, the nurse for the overnight ICU team...they were incredible!). Our surgeon, Dr. Baron, in particular, was simply amazing to work with: so incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and kind. Our dog's best interest was her clear and consistent priority every step of the way. We consulted widely throughout the region after receiving the terminal diagnosis from the first surgeon and found Medvet to be quite simply the best option in several states. I'm usually wary of emergency vets because the cost associated with a diagnostic visit is so high. We brought our dog Tito in for a potential object logged in his throat. Dr. Miller listened to his retching cough, examined his throat and determined kennel cough without pushing xrays, blood work or other expensive exams which have been pushed upon me at other emergency vets to be able to "accurately diagnose." Instead, Dr. Miller was caring, kind, and reassuring about the diagnosis, which not only was the best outcome but also not financially punitive for us. I brought my pup in for an emergency and the level of care I received was top tier. Jonathan our tech and Marlene in the front office were absolutely fantastic. Jonathan was giving consistent updates of how my pup was doing and once we were all finished with the procedures he walked me through step by step with instructions on the different instructions for medication and the different levels of care she would be needing. There were some issues with the billing and Marlene was so attentive to getting it fixed and taken care of. My dog had a mass growing on her ear and our veterinarian recommended we consult a cancer specialist. MedVet was the only place who could fit us in without a month long wait. We have an hour and a half drive to get there, but it is so worth it. I would recommend MedVet to anyone in Connecticut, Rhode Island, or the nearby New York area - they are worth the drive. Due to the new regulations with COVID-19, we are unable to go inside with our dog. But, MedVet has been amazing with communication with pickup, while our dog is inside and checking in with us, and even scheduling zoom calls to show us her CT scan and speak to us face to face. We've been able to email them during the day and after work hours with questions and get extremely quick responses. I cannot recommend them enough. My dog has been with the surgery department and radiation department and we have had positive experiences with both. As a bonus, the receptionist staff is extremely kind and helpful. Having recently moved to CT with a senior dog, I was frightened when he fell and had trouble walking. My daughter, a local vet tech recommended MedVet by reputation. It was my pure good fortune because they are a top professional and caring group. They immediately took Henry and said I would be called within the hour after he was seen and evaluated. I was also assured he'd be comforted. Within 40 minutes I received a call to return for a consultation. We discussed his condition and alternative plans to proceed. I had his out-of-state vet office send his last medical files so we made conservative choices and they sent us home with medication for his healing and comfort. Do not take your pet to these people... they dont treat your pet like you do... they were told to keep my baby girl "Sweetie" in her pink blanket because it is her home away from home being less than 3 lbs she gets cold very easy and not being in her blanket she gets extremely stressed... after 2 days of treatments she was responding enough to walk around and eat...they took her outside to pottie and brought her back in and said they noticed labored breathing out of no where so they put her into a cage with oxygen which was freezing inside for her...no blanket and she started going down hill fast they called me anticipating her demise and told me to hurry and get there i was 40 minutes away in rush hour traffic how stressful do u think that was??? so i get there they put me in a room for over 10 min knowing she is dying ...precious time that i could be comforting her ... finally they come get me and i walked into their treatment room and see her she is in the corner of cage shaking freezing and gasping for air while plenty of attendees are standing around they asked me if i wanted to hold her? What a stupid question why wasnt one of them holding her if she was dying???? They took another 10 minutes to find and untangle a portable oxygen mask for her so i could finally hold her....why wasnt this ready and waiting for me? again neglect....oh want to know where her blanket was??? In a bag clipped to the outside of her cage!!! then they have the nerve to tell me how sorry that they are for my loss.... that they caused from giving her too many fluids and not keeping her warm which they admitted ..... she never had a chance with the steps of neglect that she suffered.... Again if you have a sick fur baby that is loved by you dont take them here they are clearly only a business and only care about how many procedures and medications that they can administer to rack up the $$$$$... seriously over $4000.00 for a 2 1/2 lb dog in less than 3 days... Our family is devastated over our unnecessary loss....she touched so many hearts... she has left a hole in my heart that will never be filled...sleep with the angels....Sweetie bugs....mommy will always love you.... read more

You MUST familiarize yourself with your furry companion's condition both "in sickness and in health," so you have an idea what to expect, and what questions to ask. Truthfully, I've sought out some internationally renowned vets trying to secure the best care for my cats, and even the most educated and skilled vets are human beings and make mistakes. I know I rankle vets who don't like to be observed so closely, but it only makes sense that I put my energy into protecting the health of my fur purrsons, not someone's ego. read more
