He's not a contractor who is going to overcharge you for the sake of it, and on top of it, his work is top notch. For example, in a walk through, he caught a bunch of errors that another contractor did and fixed them for me. I triple bid a bathroom demo and Slavik came in at a very competitive price amongst the three. He explains all the things that needs to happen, why and the cost implications. He's very transparent. When I met with other contractors, they pointed out the same things, and actually whenever I inquired about a couple extra bits that Slavik pointed out that they hadn't, they admitted those things were true and they corrected themselves. Anyways, safe to say I went with Slavik at the end of the day and he ended up also doing a bunch of building work for us (roof repair, foundation work, etc.). He knows what he's doing and he is very reliable and thorough and he is very professional. He listens to your concerns and he adjusts his approach based on them. For example, I was price sensitive for a new piece of hardware, and he found a cheaper alternative for me that was within my price range, while still achieving what I needed. Overall, he's very responsive, respectful and diligent. He's also a really good guy - he'll fix things free of charge if it's something quick and easy while he's there. His crew reinforced the structure before drywall went up, and we were able to witness every step. They sanded the drywall perfectly smooth before painting, with edges blending flawlessly. Things that I liked were that he always showed up on time for the appointments (this isn't common among contractors) and was straight forward with costs and didn't sugar coat it. They kept the rest of the house clean and tidy, and finessed things with the neighbors when needed. But ultimately, it's all about the finished product, and we LOVE our kitchen and bathroom. Hire at your own risk…read more Reasons: 1) Workmanship: I had my master bathroom renovated, and the finished product is a huge disappointment. At first glance, it looked ok, but closer inspection revealed flaws with the renovation. For one thing, the tiles are crooked and not spaced evenly. The tile work in public bathrooms are way better than what they've done. Secondly, the touch-up for the scratches and dents that they inflicted on the walls were pretty shabby. Now my bathroom looks very amateurish. I used to like my bathroom, but now it gives me a heartache. It certainly will bring down the value of my house. 2) Untrustworthiness: The workers somehow knew every single nook and cranny of my house. They only needed to go from the garage to master bathroom, but somehow they decided to explore every inch of my house and even opened up some closets and drawers. First, the owner's brother (who happened to be one of the workers) denied my allegations. He only confessed when I found my kitchen knife in one of my spare bedrooms one day. He claimed that he used my kitchen knife because he had forgotten his cutting knife. Now, why would he be using my kitchen knife for his construction work? 3) Unprofessionalism: His final invoice included extra work and charges that I had not approved. I understand that unanticipated challenges with any renovation project, but he neglected to tell me what they were and how much over budget it would cost me. He proceeded without my permission, and decided to add extra charges to the final invoice. I even sought advice from a lawyer, who concluded that I was not responsible for those extra charges because he did not provide me with a new work order. 4) Lack of accountability: They installed a new shower mixer and shower head for the stall. Not sure what they did besides turning off the water main, but my plumbing was never the same afterwards. The owner refused to take accountability. I had to hire my own plumber to get the problem fixed. Here's my rebuttal to the contractor's response: "Installed sheetrock for FREE; Installed shower stall for FREE; Installed insulation for FREE; Customized the shower tiles for shower pan and shower ceiling for FREE." These were all part of the work that needed to be done for renovating the shower stall, as agreed upon in the original contract. It is unclear to me why the contractor considered them as a favor to me and that they were done for "FREE." That was basically the majority of the work that I contracted him to do. "Installed a new shower drain for FREE." I was not provided with a new work order for a new shower drain and not informed until the work was completed. "Provided a NEW medicine cabinet for FREE." One of the workers burned a hole into my existing medicine cabinet and made it no longer usable. Therefore, the contractor is responsible for the replacement. "Gave you $1000 off the original price." The contractor and I negotiated down the original bid by $960. Salgo Construction's bid was actually higher than others that I had received. I don't see it as a "discount." It was part of the negotiation process before we mutually agreed on the total cost of the renovation. "Accepted a partial payment of the final invoice." I made the full payment according to the original contract. As stated above, per an attorney's advice, I am not responsible for extra costs/labor without full disclosure and a new work order.

Valex did an amazing job, and they were enjoyable to work with. Despite the tight timeline, they took the time to do things right and we couldn't be happier with the end result. We were able to move back in before the baby arrived and we're so excited to be in our new space.
