German Italian food in Austria. Who woulda thunk it?!?! I like the concept of the place (am sure somebody mentioned that in another review) and the food is OK but damn, sometimes they're just so slow in the pasta line. Is it worth the wait? Sometimes. Sometimes though just get a salad or pizza! My second trip there, I forgot to get my drink after getting the pasta. So I went to where there were some and grabbed one and brought it to the counter to pay. The girl said, "go to the other bar, this is take-away." I told her that I had my food already and would like to eat instead of walking all the way down to the other end of the restaurant dodging loads of people. She said, "this is take-away only." I told her to just take the damn money. I paid, she took it and that was that. What a shitty attitude! She's one of the least busy people in the restaurant and cannot be bothered to do her job. Let her try making all those pasta dishes!!

Opened the door to be greeted by a yummy smell of pasta. Walked up the stairs and found there was a location to walk up and order (with a menu in German) or a place with kiosks to manually enter your order which had a menu in English, Dutch, or German. We chose to order from the kiosk as we don't read or speak German. I ordered the mista piccola and the gamberetti spinici. The mista piccola was advertised as a mixed leaf salad with carrots and tomatoes and the picture on the kiosk was a variety of dark green and purple mix. I ordered it with the lime chili dressing and the dressing had a nice spice but I hardly ate any of it because it was nothing like the picture from the kiosk. It was filled with white lettuce which I hate. The gamberetti spinici was a large portion with mostly pasta. There were a reasonable amount of prawns but the flavor was lacking and there was hardly any spinach. My husband ordered the Pesto Basilico and added chicken. His portion was also large and was drenched in pesto sauce (there was a large amount of sauce sitting at the bottom of the bowl). There were less than a handful bite size pieces of chicken in the dish so he took it back up to the counter to have more chicken added (the chicken was an extra €3) and was told "there is already chicken in there". Overall super disappointed. Way overpriced for the quality of food and lack of service. Would recommend avoiding this spot while in Vienna South.

Restaurant chains can sometimes be hit and miss (See TGI Fridays) but this seems to be one of the successes. How it works: you enter and are given a card with which you do the ordering. You order directly from the chefs and scan your card. Then depending on what you ordered, you wait for the food or are given a beeper and retire to your chosen spot. After it beeps you collect your food and dig in. When you have finished you take the card to the door, scan it again and are given the amount to pay. Pretty simple! The decor is airy and fresh and clean canteen style tables/banks with fresh herbs on the table for you to pick at your leisure. This for me is a fantastic little idea that should be adopted everywhere at once. The food is above average for an Italian restaurant and is good value for money, fulling too! The wine list is quite impressive too for a self service restaurant. Not somewhere you could go for a romantic meal but for a nice, clean place to grab a bite to eat this is very recommended.

For me this is one of the better Vapiano's in Vienna, as it has lots of room to get your food and loads of space between tables to move around without getting your tray knocked out of your hands. Well done to the design team on this one.

Bad cooks and stupid concept. Why should I rush for a meal that I pay so much for.

I miss Vienna terribly and a big part of my missing goes to the delicious desserts in Vienna style…read more I don't know if Felber is kind of the Panera Bread here in the US or not, but it's such a great chain store to try Vienna bakeries and coffee. Shamelessly, I tried every type of cakes here during my very short stay in Vienna (oh year, I did go there everyday...) All delicious and the raspberry mousse and chestnuts cake are the must-haves. Staff were very friendly too!

Basically, this is like a bakery with a wide offer in fresh breads (even bio, vegan or gluten-free) and a lot of pastries (very good croissants!), but also with a café part. You can seat indoors (nice and comfortable, with blankets and stools) and outdoors for all those who likes getting some fresh air! :) You can order there your cold or warm drinks, and something to eat; or simply get take-away. They have several breakfast menus, adapted to any appetite size, with at least a warm drink and a pastry. They also make some fresh squeezed orange juice as you order it! For lunch, they have a lots of fresh-made sandwiches, snacks and salads. I warmly recommend their salads actually: they are quite generous, tasty, healthy of course, and included in the price you get the small bread (=Weckerl) of your choice!

    XXXLutz Restaurant - Breakfast

Eating at the brand new XXXL restaurant on the Mariahilferstraße might be the most surprising…read moredining experience I have had this year. It certainly is the best value meal I can almost ever remember. Here's the scoop: The famous Austrian store XXXLutz has opened up a stand-alone large restaurant on Europe's longest shopping street - Mariahilferstraße . The restaurant has two floors and several dining areas as well as a bar/counter. It is light and airy with lots of floor to ceiling windows. The service is very friendly despite the huge crowds. And for the month of December it is offering some difficult-to-believe special value meals via coupons. For example - a giant Wienerschnitzel and French Fries dinner for only 3 Euros. Why not splurge and have a leg of roasted duck with Knödeln for 5 Euros? These prices must be like 50 years ago. And the food is tasty. For dessert we were given a complimentary gingerbread heart. Of course these prices are temporary and celebrating the grand opening but they are in effect for a whole month and this restaurant is open every day of the week from morning till evening. I think XXXL Restaurant will be a very popular addition to the ever popular Mariahilferstraße and the Westbahnhof Viertel. I def will keep it in mind when I am in the area - especially after their generous opening celebration.
