My pasta was spectacular. The chef wasn't particularly friendly, but I already knew that from reading the other reviews so I set my expectations. There is no menu, the chef will tell you what is available. The menu is in his head. Tonight, there was pasta with clams, Squid ink pasta with shrimp, and pasta Bolognese. I opted for the squid ink. It was truly delicious, a hint of spice, just the right amount of garlic and seasoning, really filling. I enjoyed my meal. If you have dietary restrictions, this is not the place for you. If you want good service, forget it. It's just one guy, the chef, running the show. It will take him a while to get to you. However, the pasta is fantastic. I would give it five stars for the food. He did seem friendlier with locals/Italians that came in. Perhaps because I speak English I was treated less friendly. He even said prego to me when I took 5 seconds to think about my options. I don't think that he liked that I asked what kind of meat is used for the bolognese. Don't come here for the service, set your expectations, and come for the excellent pasta. What a great night we had here. This was my favorite thing we did in Vienna. Valentino served us his own specialized menu. He was so kind and welcoming for us. Definitely a hole in a wall, small business! There's no menu. We arrived at 6:15 and were seated promptly. There were 2 parties ahead of us and we were told upon being seated that there would be a wait for the food. Valentino is incredible. He is the owner, chef, server, all in one. No other staff! We saw the great reviews from others and were craving good pasta. We called to make a reservation - just in case - and were the first ones there at 6pm. He asked if we were really hungry deciding how much pasta he should make for us. There were no menus. Valentino gave us a handful of pasta dishes he can make and also added that he can basically make anything we think of! When he asked what kind of wine we would like, red or white, he decided on the type and gave us the background on the wine and where it came from in Italy. The pasta was HEAVENLY. I went with a cheesy pasta (as he offered up a Gorgonzola marscaponé style with asparagus) and my friend got the squid ink shrimp scampi style dish. After dinner Valentino surprised us with a tiramisu dessert and then finished the experience with a grappa shot! The entire bill was less than we expected for how amazing everything was and him working all by himself. And it's cash only!! Valentino does not accept tips but we tried anyway!! He is so talented in his cooking you HAVE to come by when you're in Vienna! Also: because he is doing everything himself, other tables to wait on too, expect a longer evening there. After reading about this establishment through reviews which mentioned that there is no menu, that the chef greets, waits, discusses his choice of menu for the evening , then cooks, serves, and acts as cashier, I knew this would be a unique experience. And he did not disappoint. My meal was exceptional, it was the first time for me that my focus was on how delicious the fresh pasta and sauce was, which wouldn't have needed any thing else on it. A new experience in dining Italian. The restaurant itself is quietly located and the interior is both quaint and relaxing. Greetings from Seattle, WA, USA... Went to Central/Eastern Europe for a study abroad trip. The group of girls and I went here for lunch and we enjoyed it so much we suggested it to our Professor to have our farewell dinner - which we did! Owner/cooke was so friendly and kind. Patience is key here since he makes the food with (fresh) ingredients that are available for the day/night. Tight and intimate atmosphere! This place is the definition of a hidden gem. My friends and I spent the semester abroad in Vienna and we can confidently say this is the best restaurant in the city. We came the first week we were here, and it became the experience we looked forward to every Wednesday of our semester. Valentino is the owner and, as the other reviews say, he is also the host, waiter, cook, and cleaner. On top of being an amazing chef, he is the most genuine person who made efforts to talk to us each week despite a very clear language barrier. I can say I have tried the entire menu and the standouts are definitely the burrata, shrimp scampi, and the arrabbiata (but everything is amazing). It is cash only, but Valentino refuses to take tips and everything is very fairly priced...almost too fairly priced. As others said, this is a great hole in the wall restaurant. The owner / chef / waiter is extremely friendly and makes an excellent pasta. He originally hails from Venice. I had the shrimp scampi with black pasta (I forgot the exact type of pasta), and it was some of the best I've ever had with a little citrus to cut through the seafood flavor. The sauce also clung to the pasta making each bite full of flavor, even though there was only a handful on shrimp. At 15 euros, it felt like a great deal in Wien. So, usually when reading reviews I tend to take them with a grain of salt, but in this case I understand why folks are raving. This has literally been the best pasta I've had in my life. I had the shrimp and mussels pasta and I almost licked the plate clean. Then the panocotta (took a cheat day out of turn today) was just to die for. I've traveled a lot to Italy, but this chef has a gift. And he is also so personable. Just a 7-star experience. Asked him to match my red wine and that was the iciing on the cake. Good and quiet place located on small street. The ambience is cozy and pretty stylish. We reserved the table on phone and chef told there's no pizza, so pasta is the only choice we've had. We've ordered 4 pastas, two salads, 3 pannacota and 3 wine glasses, and you know what - we've got €100 bill, pretty overpriced and unacceptable even for Vienna. However, when we tried to open the door, he let us in and served us. I mostly like to review restaurants based on quality of food rather than service but Stella Marina has BOTH! As someone mentioned in the reviews, same person is the chef, the waiter and everything. And if it is his restaurant he is terrible at running the business. When we came we wanted to sit inside because it was to hot outside but he forced us to sit outside. Then he said, as if we were idiots who didn't know what an Italian restaurant is, that this is a pasta place. Then he was not very friendly or polite at all when he was serving us which made the lunch very unpleasent for us. Then he went inside to cook and first brought my girlfriend the dish she ordered and brought mine after 5 min. Her pasta was too salty and mine was too sour. In the male bathroom there was no water. In the female there was no soap, so I had to run from one to the other few times to wash my hands. That's not a way how you should run the business. The enterior of the restaurant is very nice and the restaurant has a great potential but they have to change the one-man-show guy if they want to gain any customers. read more

What a marvel! We found this place on yelp and the reviews looked good. The entire dinner was made, served, and managed by a single person. The food quality was excellent. There are only about eight to ten tables and 15-16 diners were served during the time we were there. The entrees were four different pasta dishes with a zucchini,shrimp prosciutto or pancetta. They were all delicious. The service was very good considering the staffing. The entire dinner was quite a show and I would highly recommend this place. I have seen the proprietor described as grouchy or brusk, we all thought he was quite professional. We arrived at eight and made a reservation and were the only people there for a while.
