This store EXUDES fabulous customer service! Why? you may ask...Well.... 1) Multiple team members greeted us when we came in. I felt really welcome. This is not typical for all stores. I often walk into retail stores in general, and the staff are busy chatting with one another, or distracted on their phone and fail to welcome customers. I'm not expecting fanfare or paparazzi, but a simple "Hi" or "Welcome" goes a long way. Vans Mission Valley has the welcome thing down! 2) Multiple team members offered to help (and they were down-to-Earth and friendly!) We were making a return, so as soon as we walked in, one team member offered to take our return right away and handle it while we shopped. Another team member helped us out in the shoe try-on area and was great in bringing out out the shoes I wanted to try on, as well as some other fun ones in my size. I was there yesterday, the Saturday before Christmas. The store was clean and organized and the place was super busy! There was a decent number of employees working to grab sizes and a reasonable wait time at the register. Only complaint was we had to find an employee ourselves to try on sizes. They never approached us. We went to buy shoes for my toddler boy and I was highly impressed with the selection they had of toddler shoes. I was expecting to have just a few options but we had at least 15 to choose from. They didn't gripe about us trying on the samples. Overall, a good experience. read more

Went in here on Tuesday the 16th. The person who helped me find my shoes was fine. He was kind of slow finding the shoes, but it wasn't really a big deal. The big deal was the cashier. She was absolutely rude. I understand that they "could not accept" a "ripped" but still intact bill. I've been coming here since 2008 when I bought my first pair of vans in high school. Always great service and super friendly but not pushy sales people. Recently after nearly a decade of wearing vans daily my new pair was faulty. There was a patch of extra hard glue in the right heel that felt terrible to walk on. The shoes sat in my closet for weeks because I already trashed the receipt and the box and thought I was stuck with them. This specific location definitely has the best staff I have ever come across in all my years of buying shoes from the stores. They fit great, they are comfortable, the quality is great and they are only like $45 bucks. Probably the best buy as far as jeans go. As for Paige. Its called a fucking gift receipt and most places wont return shit without a receipt, that's just the way it is. I really wanted to give this Vans location several visits before posting anything, but damn what did I do to make the employees behave so rudely toward me? I walked in today thinking, "I'm gonna go to Vans because Zumiez usually has terrible customer service and I prefer the Vans store!" But I was wrong. Now, I'm an adult who is pretty new to skateboarding and don't know much. I ordered a board online from Zumiez and when it arrived I realized it didn't come with any grip. So I thought I should hit up Vans(since I wasn't a fan of Zumiez) because they're usually always nice and knowledgeable which helps because, again, I don't know much. The first employee I see was a woman wearing glasses, she was a bit tan. I kindly asked, "is it possible to have my board gripped up?" She was obviously annoyed that I asked and instead of replying in a professional manner when I said "I'm sorry, I didn't realize I couldn't bring an outside board in for grip" she said, "well we're not Zumiez" in a very annoyed tone. At this point I was just wondering why I felt like I inconvenienced her so much. All she had to say was, "I apologize, unfortunately we normally don't work with boards that aren't purchased in our store, however let me see what I can do(or not)". I've been a bartender/ server for over 7 years and would never think about treating a guest this way. I just wanted some help and instead they made me feel like I was a burden to help out. I can't help but feel this is a recurring issue since I've had similar experiences previously. I walked out without purchasing anything. Will be contacting Vans customer service until I hear back from a manager. read more

I needed some shoes for work and due to medical problems and personal preferences I was looking for an all-black canvas shoe with a "skate shoe" type design. I had checked several stores in the mall and was rather disappointed with the lack of selection, lack of help, and most of the time, both. I stopped in here as my last hope of finding anything here, and was pleasantly surprised! A wide selection of shoes to choose from, and a very nice salesman to help me out. Found what I was looking for at a reasonable price. This is a really funny story. I was really indecisive about what color of a shoe I wanted (blue or black) so asked one of the employees what he thought. He recommended blue and so I decided to go with the blue. Opened up my shoes to wear out that night, and turns out the employee must've been indecisive too because I got one black shoe and one blue shoe! Maybe he was thinking my style could be a little more edgy.
