But then my partner had a fantastic week at work, like absolutely crushed it, was riding high, and out of nowhere he goes, "Wanna go to Lululemon? My niece says these leggings are life-changing." And honestly? Say less. So in we go. I'm half skeptical, half flattered, fully confused. The staff was so helpful, clearly used to people like me wandering in with no idea what a Wunder Train is. I grab a few pairs to try on and suddenly we're in this giant bougie dressing room with mirrors that see you from every angle of your soul. The super sweet associate asks my partner if he wants to come see how they look and he's like, Oh sure, but also starts laughing as he whispers to me "I feel like a sugar daddy right now." And I'm standing there in leggings that feel like they were sewn by angels, laughing and also nodding because yeah. Accurate. But also wow. These leggings? Life-changing. Like cancel my plans I'm just wearing these around the house all day kind of good. So now here I am, one pair in and already plotting my return. The cult rumors are true. Lululemon owns me now. And honestly? I'm not even mad about it.

I love that the employees are always super knowledgeable but don't try to sway you to the more expensive option. I appreciate that Zumiez has a customer service focused business model. Today I tried to exchange (not return) a pair of unworn pants. I had removed the tags because I typically wear the same size, but having lost a few pounds, I tried these on and they were a bit roomy. I don't have a local Torrid so while traveling I brought them two weeks after buying hoping for a size down exchange. They refused despite me having exchanged multiple items in the past in similar circumstances. They have no real policy in place. I've returned and/or exchanged multiple items without tags over the years with no issues at all. If they had been consistent about this over the years I would be less bothered by it, but having had successful returns in the past, I'm frustrated with their lack of customer service. The pants were unworn and undamaged, just missing tags. I would have even paid a restocking fee for the tags. I have spent thousands of dollars a year at this store but now that I know my store loyalty isn't worth an exchange for a $45 pair of pants they will never see another dollar from me.

In the case of Tully's, it seems to blend in with the Van's and Nike store (because it actually also sells Van's and Nike's), and the Zumiez at Station Park -- as well as stores like PacSun, Urban Outfitters, etc. and other malls because of it is cool-boy and young-man, skate-centric clothes and brands. For similarish stores, having something that sets it apart -- such as strong discount prices or a unique core element -- helps vault it out of mediocrity. In the case of Tilly's, I really don't see that unique element. Let's focus on the positive ... Tilly's has A LOT of stuff. First of all, they have almost as many Van's t-shirts than at the Van's store and, oddly enough, some originals you won't even find at the big V. There are also plenty of options from brands like Levis, North Face, Quicksilver, Billabong, Volcom, DC, Fox, Roxy, Hurley, and Etnies. And if you like more casual-ware, you'll find a lot: t-shirts, hoodies, graphic tees and sweatshirts, shoes, penny boards and other skateboards, shorts and board shorts, backpacks, accessories (a lot of wallets, sunglasses, and watches) ... and that probably just scratches the surface. The prices are a bit high, but it's a pretty good selection of clothes worth checking out.

Back in the day, malls were booming, parking lot full of cars, food courts packed and revenue bursting at the seems. I was in the neighborhood of Layton Mall and decided to have lunch at the food court with the idea of having a nice walk through the mall, with the thought of looking for winter boots. After looking at styles & prices of Famous Footwear, Journey my eye caught TradeHome shoe store. Knowing this store is out of my budget, being a senior on a fixed income. As I've aged, dealing with issues of painful feet, knees & hips comfort is more important then style. It has been since I've shopped for shoes in a mall, so to my surprise discovered many different name brands from different parts of the world. Having severe arthritis, the weight of a boot or shoes is very important to me. Many name brands shoes/boots can weigh like a brick strap to your feet ! So as I was browsing through Tradehome shoes, the sales rep Katherine Felthager began her role of helping a senior hunt for just the right boot. She listened to my concerns of the weight of a boot & style I was looking for, slip on boot ( I didn't want to deal with a river of laces ) Katherine knew I was just searching & looking for winter boots, but not able to pay now but later when my Soc. Sec. check filled my account in 2 weeks. Even so, Katherine truly was a joy & helpful, she listened very well and so friendly. Her knowledge of all the brands & what part of the world the shoes/boots came from. I discovered many new brand names. Katherine went into the back room and came out with the perfect winter boot for me. As I enjoyed learning about so many new brand names and great craftsmanship of comfortable candles, shoes & boots. Katherine kindly wrote down name, size, stock number & price of my new perfect boot, which I will go back and purchase when my income allows. Thank you Katherine Felthager for the best experience I have ever had. Side note: after leaving Tradehome shoe store, I went to Dicks Sporting goods, where I found the same boot at a higher price !
