We worked with them twice for our little yard. In order to make our yard pet-friendly and clean, we replaced grass with turf, and covered the exposed soil with wood chips (later on river rocks). They are easy to schedule with, and they would give their professional opinion on which solutions best fit our needs. The prices were reasonable. They did such a good job with our yard. I called them at the end of 2019 as I just brought a new house and it was badly in need of any and all landscaping services. I called Van Landscaping which was very fast, and efficient in reaching back (unlike many other companies that ghosted me) and came out right away to do the work. Much work to be done! Weeding, and removing plants and bushes. Trimming trees and hedges. We had an retaining wall with overgrown plants both on top and bottom spilling out on to the street which we ended up installing a two tier retaining wall on bottom to keep everything from spilling out. The last thing to do was to add the beauty bark. Initially, I was very happy with their work. The property definitely looked better and manageable instead of an overgrown forest. The best work was the retaining wall. That's the probably the only thing I'm still happy with. I didn't end up sticking around for the process with all the dirt and debris flying around, but many of the small requests I asked were not taken into consideration. When I reviewed it later that night, the manager told me I should have asked earlier as he didn't have a team the next day to handle the "extra" work. (Which, a lot of these "extra" details was covered with him upon consultation) With so much going on the first day, I thought it would be reasonable to review it all over after the initial clean up. But apparently he only planned for two days of work. For the $3,000 I ended up paying, he certainly could have provided better service. Not to mention six months later, I learned many other details that ensures I won't be calling them again. The hedges were chopped off to the height I requested but so badly they'd never be able to grow back. The rose bushes are practically ruined for years to come. General weeding was done in open areas but not by the trees, bushes or retaining wall. I asked for the retaining wall to be cleared of weeds and excess dirt of mud between rocks but that request was ignored. The beauty bark I requested was of horrible quality and they literally dumped it on top of my old pavers and plastic bags they came in. Honestly, to hide the poor quality of clean up, they dumped the bark on EVERYTHING. This was a nice touch to hide the work they didn't do or clean. I think they were probably hoping I didn't notice, but it was difficult not to when pulling out trash bags and other debris from underneath the bark. I wished at least they had bothered to make the bark look nice by straightening it out but I came back to piles and piles that seemed to be randomly sprinkled and tossed everywhere. I'd recommend them for general service for lawn cleaning, weeding and tree trimming but if you want a company that pays attention to details, definitely not them.i read more

Van and his crew are the best. I tasked him with what I naively thought was an impossible task (see pictures), and he beat all our other bids and finished the entire job in two days. 2 DAYS! His crew transformed our weed-choked, blackberry and brick infested feral cat litter box/dumping ground into a pristinely paved, grassy wonderland in 2 days. And threw in a dope ass cedar fence to boot. Did I mention it took them 2 days? Because it did. Every time I go outside I have a small stroke because I forget it actually happened. Incredible job by Van. We moved back into our home last month after a year long remodel. Our previous landscaper stopped coming to the house a month after we moved and didn't responded to my texts or calls. Our property is big compared to the average Seattle home with large front hedges, overhanging wisterias, wrap around gardens on the side and back of the house and a back lawn; all of it overgrown with the grass in the yard several feet high and weeds over 6 feet tall. Of the many (10 or so) landscapers I called or messaged, Van was one of only two who returned my call, came out for an estimate and scheduled the work. The others either stopped responding after a few texts/calls or never responded to requests to schedule the work after having already wasted my time coming out to give the estimate. Van scheduled the work with me and showed up as expected. He and his team worked nonstop from morning to evening and the result was unbelievable. At one point I saw him crouched in my lavender pruning individual leaves off a dead fern. My yard has never looked so neat and tidy. I've decided not to waste any more time searching for a maintenance landscaper; I'll just have Van come out quarterly and the result will be just as good. read more

These guys are fantastic, I'd give them ten stars if I could! Due to busy lives and having a baby, we had let our yard get out of control for more than a year. So much so, that I was pretty embarrassed to have people over. We finally decided we had enough and wanted some professionals to fix the damage our neglect had caused so I requested several bids from companies that had great reviews on Yelp. Of all of the bids I got, Van's was the lowest (and most reasonable....some were crazy outrageous). In addition, he was very responsive which was great. He and his crew came out and cleaned up our yard in a matter of hours (something that would have taken us hours and quite possibly caused a divorce). I was so disappointed with the communication in the end. We had discussed bi-weekly maintenance. I followed up within three weeks and was told maintenance was booked for the season, so they would not be following up. I followed up again recently to make sure before moving my business elsewhere, and received a pretty heated message about how I should have been quicker and more on top of following up on the maintenance. It's just not great communication for what is actually a pretty small job all costs considered. I still think they did a great job when they were here, but I would recommend scheduling your maintenance needs in advance or understanding it will just be a one-time service. read more

I hired Bill Van to plant a row of arborvitae trees to create a privacy barrier. He ended up using the lowest quality trees available and they started to brown within a couple of weeks, even with me watering by hand daily. He also put in a sprinkler system for them and we have since learned he should have put in a drip line to ensure adequate water. We hired Van's to fix up our back patio. Our old wooden fence had started to rot because it was also serving as a wooden retaining wall. And the dirt and raised beds we'd installed ourselves a few years back, well, they'd seen better days. The wood was also rotting and the dirt was a weed pit. Everything was out of sorts. Van's came in and fixed it all up in a day and a half. They saved what they could from the fence (the posts) and the patio (the old paving stones), which saved us a lot of money. And then they fixed everything else. They re-leveled the patio. Put new paving stones down over the old uneven dirt. Built a new fence with better/sturdier wood. Everything looks great and was done really quickly. Two things I really liked about Van's, aside from the good, fast, and reasonably priced work: First, they were really up front about pricing and options. They made clear what things would cost if I used different materials, reused things, had different options, etc. And they stuck to their estimate. Second, I like that Van's is a family business. It's good to support local Seattle family businesses. And the entire team was great to have working on our home. It's sort of a matter of trust, having folks working on your house.
