I called them at the end of 2019 as I just brought a new house and it was badly in need of any and all landscaping services. I called Van Landscaping which was very fast, and efficient in reaching back (unlike many other companies that ghosted me) and came out right away to do the work. Much work to be done! Weeding, and removing plants and bushes. Trimming trees and hedges. We had an retaining wall with overgrown plants both on top and bottom spilling out on to the street which we ended up installing a two tier retaining wall on bottom to keep everything from spilling out. The last thing to do was to add the beauty bark. Initially, I was very happy with their work. The property definitely looked better and manageable instead of an overgrown forest. The best work was the retaining wall. That's the probably the only thing I'm still happy with. I didn't end up sticking around for the process with all the dirt and debris flying around, but many of the small requests I asked were not taken into consideration. When I reviewed it later that night, the manager told me I should have asked earlier as he didn't have a team the next day to handle the "extra" work. (Which, a lot of these "extra" details was covered with him upon consultation) With so much going on the first day, I thought it would be reasonable to review it all over after the initial clean up. But apparently he only planned for two days of work. For the $3,000 I ended up paying, he certainly could have provided better service. Not to mention six months later, I learned many other details that ensures I won't be calling them again. The hedges were chopped off to the height I requested but so badly they'd never be able to grow back. The rose bushes are practically ruined for years to come. General weeding was done in open areas but not by the trees, bushes or retaining wall. I asked for the retaining wall to be cleared of weeds and excess dirt of mud between rocks but that request was ignored. The beauty bark I requested was of horrible quality and they literally dumped it on top of my old pavers and plastic bags they came in. Honestly, to hide the poor quality of clean up, they dumped the bark on EVERYTHING. This was a nice touch to hide the work they didn't do or clean. I think they were probably hoping I didn't notice, but it was difficult not to when pulling out trash bags and other debris from underneath the bark. I wished at least they had bothered to make the bark look nice by straightening it out but I came back to piles and piles that seemed to be randomly sprinkled and tossed everywhere. I'd recommend them for general service for lawn cleaning, weeding and tree trimming but if you want a company that pays attention to details, definitely not them.i read more

Van and his crew are the best. I tasked him with what I naively thought was an impossible task (see pictures), and he beat all our other bids and finished the entire job in two days. 2 DAYS! His crew transformed our weed-choked, blackberry and brick infested feral cat litter box/dumping ground into a pristinely paved, grassy wonderland in 2 days. And threw in a dope ass cedar fence to boot. Did I mention it took them 2 days? Because it did. Every time I go outside I have a small stroke because I forget it actually happened. I could not recommend Van any more highly. I'm still not 100% convinced he's not really a figment of my imagination. THANK YOU, Van! read more

I asked Van to come by and give me an estimate to fix a cracked sprinkler irrigation line. He assessed the issue and said he could fix it immediately for a very reasonable price. I was thrilled. He was prompt, communication was excellent and the quality of work was great. I wouldn't hesitate to request his service again! read more

We had two projects for Van and his crew to do for us. The first was to install a sprinkler system in our front yard. The second was to rehab the lawn. Van did a good job for us on both. The sprinkler system installation was an arduous job that required a lot of digging in mud and laying pipe under existing sidewalk. That went well. Some months after the sprinkler installation, we had Van come back to thatch, seed and fertilize the lawn. After that was completed, we asked him to come back and tweak the sprinkler heads to make sure the system was working properly. Van was consistently responsive and competent. read more

My first impression of Van's Landscape isn't good. We set up a time for Van to come out to give an estimate, and he missed the appointment entirely. He never reached out to let me know he needed to move the appointment or to share the reason why it was missed. I'm disappointed in the level of service before the work has even begun. read more

We worked with them twice for our little yard. In order to make our yard pet-friendly and clean, we replaced grass with turf, and covered the exposed soil with wood chips (later on river rocks). They are easy to schedule with, and they would give their professional opinion on which solutions best fit our needs. The prices were reasonable. They did such a good job with our yard. Would definitely work with them again! read more

Had to call vans business several times, didn't even have a business voicemail setup so I kept calling and finally got a hold of someone. We agreed upon a time to come by and look at property and provide estimate. The person who came for the estimate came at a totally different time than we agreed on but luckily I was home and able to make it work. At the end of the meeting the guy said he would text an estimate. It's been over a week and never received any estimate or even follow up. Clearly unprofessional and must not need any new work, I'm not sure but this was my experience with van's landscaping. read more

Fabulous work! Van's crew was professional, careful, and consciences on my yard. They completed exactly what I asked, in less time than I expected. Van also made recommendations to maintain my lawn going forward. I will be using them again for other difficult yard projects very soon. Thank you! read more

Van's weeded and shaped all the shrubs in our front yard, and layed a gravel path in the back. They did a nice job on both, showed up right on time and worked hard. They crew was pleasant and they left everything tidy. Great value. read more

Incredible job by Van. We moved back into our home last month after a year long remodel. Our previous landscaper stopped coming to the house a month after we moved and didn't responded to my texts or calls. Our property is big compared to the average Seattle home with large front hedges, overhanging wisterias, wrap around gardens on the side and back of the house and a back lawn; all of it overgrown with the grass in the yard several feet high and weeds over 6 feet tall. Of the many (10 or so) landscapers I called or messaged, Van was one of only two who returned my call, came out for an estimate and scheduled the work. The others either stopped responding after a few texts/calls or never responded to requests to schedule the work after having already wasted my time coming out to give the estimate. Van scheduled the work with me and showed up as expected. He and his team worked nonstop from morning to evening and the result was unbelievable. At one point I saw him crouched in my lavender pruning individual leaves off a dead fern. My yard has never looked so neat and tidy. I've decided not to waste any more time searching for a maintenance landscaper; I'll just have Van come out quarterly and the result will be just as good. read more

Van and his crew installed pavers, edging, and a new fence. Great value and a great job!

I'm so glad to find Bill and his team for lawn care. Great respond time when needed and very reliable on their schedule to come. Bill is the owner and comes in person for the quote. I can tell he takes good care of his customers. He gave me a very fair quote also. read more

It's tough to find any contractor that actually meet their commitments. Van's responded to my calls and texts and showed up when he said he would for the estimate and the day of the job. Van couldn't be a nicer guy. He was price conscious and had many ideas for me as to where we could save money. He upgraded our irrigation system on time and had creative solutions to a few things that could've been issues. I highly recommend he and his team. read more

This is the third time I've hired Van over the last several years. The first time was a major overhaul of our backyard and it turned out great. His crew has done everything from cinderblock walls, re-sodding my grass, creating barrier between neighbors bamboo that was coming into our yard, removing tress and bushes and just annual upkeep including thatching and fertilizing.. His prices are always reasonable and his crew does a great job. Will use again in the future for sure. read more

They did a really great job for us, would definitely recommend. Their crew was extremely efficient and hard working. They accomplished what would have taken me a few days, including all the clean up, within only about 3 hours. They completed everything that we asked for. Very fair pricing, we ended up paying exactly what their estimate was. We decided to go with them out of 3 other landscaping companies who came by our home for an estimate, and we're very glad that we did read more

Van's Landscape was great to work with. They were prompt and efficient. Van came to do the estimate and gave me a start date and an end date that they followed through with. I was pleasantly surprised that the project was completed in the time promised. I've used another landscaping company before where the crew would show up 2-3 hours late or where they don't even show up. Van's crew was awesome. They worked hard and I was impressed to see that they cleaned as they worked so the site was never an eye sore. Van's Landscape was reliable and did their work well. I plan on using them again for fall clean up and I would recommend them to friends and neighbors for sure! read more

We're incredibly pleased with Bill's service! We reached out on Yelp on a Thursday, and received a message from Bill that evening quickly arranging a time to swing by the next Tuesday morning. We went over all of the cleanup tasks we needed for our overgrown yard, including pruning, weeding, bark, blackberry and ivy removal, etc. Bill got us a quote that evening, and he and his family showed up the next Saturday morning. Originally he thought it might take a day and a half, but they were able to finish the job in a single day. The yard has never looked better, and they did a good enough job that we should be able to keep up with it in our limited time for the first time since we purchased the house. Looking forward to having them back for lawn maintenance and some other larger projects in the future! read more

Van's Landscape cleaned up our property of overgrown weeds and put down new bark. They also installed new gravel and pavers along the side of our property and installed a new gravel driveway. These guys are fantastic, I'd give them ten stars if I could! Due to busy lives and having a baby, we had let our yard get out of control for more than a year. So much so, that I was pretty embarrassed to have people over. We finally decided we had enough and wanted some professionals to fix the damage our neglect had caused so I requested several bids from companies that had great reviews on Yelp. Of all of the bids I got, Van's was the lowest (and most reasonable....some were crazy outrageous). In addition, he was very responsive which was great. He and his crew came out and cleaned up our yard in a matter of hours (something that would have taken us hours and quite possibly caused a divorce). Both my husband and I couldn't stop commenting on how great everything looked. I will definitely hire them again in the future and will recommend them to anyone who needs landscaping help. read more

I was so disappointed with the communication in the end. We had discussed bi-weekly maintenance. I followed up within three weeks and was told maintenance was booked for the season, so they would not be following up. I followed up again recently to make sure before moving my business elsewhere, and received a pretty heated message about how I should have been quicker and more on top of following up on the maintenance. It's just not great communication for what is actually a pretty small job all costs considered. I still think they did a great job when they were here, but I would recommend scheduling your maintenance needs in advance or understanding it will just be a one-time service. read more

At no time did you accept responsibility of changing the mulch color or offer a solution to the problem you created with your choice. Again, very poor communicator. read more

I hired Bill Van to plant a row of arborvitae trees to create a privacy barrier. He ended up using the lowest quality trees available and they started to brown within a couple of weeks, even with me watering by hand daily. He also put in a sprinkler system for them and we have since learned he should have put in a drip line to ensure adequate water. Worth it to spend a little more and not end up with 1/3 of the trees dying. read more

We hired Van's to fix up our back patio. Our old wooden fence had started to rot because it was also serving as a wooden retaining wall. And the dirt and raised beds we'd installed ourselves a few years back, well, they'd seen better days. The wood was also rotting and the dirt was a weed pit. Everything was out of sorts. Van's came in and fixed it all up in a day and a half. They saved what they could from the fence (the posts) and the patio (the old paving stones), which saved us a lot of money. And then they fixed everything else. They re-leveled the patio. Put new paving stones down over the old uneven dirt. Built a new fence with better/sturdier wood. Everything looks great and was done really quickly. Two things I really liked about Van's, aside from the good, fast, and reasonably priced work: First, they were really up front about pricing and options. They made clear what things would cost if I used different materials, reused things, had different options, etc. And they stuck to their estimate. Second, I like that Van's is a family business. It's good to support local Seattle family businesses. And the entire team was great to have working on our home. It's sort of a matter of trust, having folks working on your house. And I really liked having the entire Van's team working on our patio. Good people. read more

Van and his team were amazing! They are experts at their discipline and craft -- especially when it came to building multiple fences and gates. the neighbor behind us partnered with them as well -- we loved their work so much that we wanted them to build a fencing system for us as we are about to get a new puppy! Don't hesitate, get in touch with them -- they are the best! read more

Van's crew did an amazing job with my sinking and poorly designed patio area! They showed up on time, worked really hard, and were very nice all for a reasonable price. Van was communicative and upfront about pricing and any issues they encountered along the way. He was also very responsive to my requests, questions, and fixed an issue I noticed soon afterwards. The two small things I'd ask for in the future is a walkthrough and a pressure wash/deeper cleanup of the area once the job was completed. I'm guessing they didn't have time on the second day because it was already late and ultimately, these were small things I could do on my own. Not a big deal at all. I'd hire them again without question! I'm so happy with my new patio and garden area. Thank you! read more

We're thrilled with the final results of Van's work. We had an old chain link fence that needed to be removed, and a strip along our property that had about 8" of debris, ivy bed, and crap. Van and his crew did a "10" job with fall pruning and clean up of our yard today. Van gave us an estimate a few weeks ago, scheduled us for today, and then followed up to make sure we knew he was coming and the time to expect his crew to arrive. They were on time and very professional in all of the work they did. The pruning looks like they know their business and the clean up work done afterwards was done with great care.
