The receptionist is very nice and I had high hopes for this place as this woman was doing my nails & it came out gorgeous. Although, there are quite a few things that I disliked. As you can see by my nails, I am extra with them. I asked the woman to place the jewels I picked on different fingers and she goes "Ok you're asking for too much" and just puts it on one finger. That pissed me off so much because 1. You're not paying for them, I'm ASKING and PAYING for your service, is this not a nail salon?!!! 2. Are these your nails? Your hands?? Who cares if I'm asking for too much, do you not want my money? I didn't say anything because she had already started working on them and I did not feel like bickering, just super disappointed. I have never heard someone say something like this, how unprofessional and rude. Of course it looks beautiful, but it didn't even last 48 hours till they started breaking. (You can see it in the 3rd pic, I wish I had a better pic to show you all how bad it got within days.) I paid $156. You know how heartbreaking that is? I expected the quality and longevity to be exceptional due to how nice she did them, but that's just a facade. The application is trash and that's why it barely lasted. This salon is a few blocks from our home and we were really excited to support a local and black owned business. The first 3-4 times, my daughter and I had manicures with Mya and we were really happy. She was great and her work was meticulous. We thought we had found our spot. The past two times I've been here, Krissy has done my nails. I find her work to be sloppy. The first time I was hoping it was just an off day-- the gel was so thick and lumpy that I ended up getting it removed elsewhere a few days after the manicure. It was a total waste of money. Today, she did a nice job on my daughter's nails, but my gel is again thick, uneven and lumpy. She also cut my cuticle so I was bleeding during the manicure. When I commented during the process, she told me it was my own fault for moving my nails while they were drying. I could tell there was no point in arguing with her, but we won't be back; I can see from other reviews that other women are having the same experience here. read more

Have come here a few times but after two not so great experiences I won't be returning. The quality of products and techs are just not up to par with the prices they charge. Came here for a hard gel fill in and a basic pedi, it took nearly 4 hours; I walked out with just a white coat over both my toes and nails. The tech was not very experienced, she was sanding my cuticles and broke my skin, didn't even check to see if my nails were even, and did a patchy job on the paint. After a while I didn't correct her because I just wanted to get out of there. Management tried to rectify the issue after my first experience, but to not make sure I was satisfied, giving me an even worse second one put the nail in the coffin for me. Linden is the only reason why I'm not giving them one star; she's the best one there, very communicative and nice. read more

My friend went to this salon for the first time and will NEVER go back. She asked for French tips with white polish. The nail tech took 3+ hours to do THIS and the salon charged $100. She was still gracious enough to provide a good tip. But, the nails are uneven and the edges are sharp. My friend was in a rush to get to the airport and couldn't wait around to get them fixed. The finished product did not warrant the ridiculous price that was charged. If this is the kind of service provided - it's NOT worth it. read more

I had an horrible experience at this nail spot. The nail tech (Sheronda) filed down my nails too thin so my acrylics started to lift after 3 days which was extremely painful. I was left with all of my fingernails damaged. She also cut my toe during my pedicure. I could not wear heels to my event the next day and had to change my entire outfit. I first came here in August. I saw a new Black owned nail salon was opening via Instagram and I wanted to come through and support. My first appointment was pretty good. I got there on time and was told my nail tech was in the middle of an appointment and would be available in about 10-15 minutes. I left and came back and the owner came up to me to verify if I wanted a specific nail tech and I didn't, just wanted my appointment at the time I booked it for. He quickly set me up with Krissy, who did a great job. She kept asking me questions to make sure I was good and she had a good disposition. The accommodation of the owner and the nail tech made up for their tardiness so I decided to come back. I booked an appointment with Krissy again this morning and got an email that they changed the nail tech. Understandable. I get another email hours later that my appointment was pushed to a later time. I didn't have any plans so that didn't bother me. I get here, on time, and I'm told that my nail tech is on the middle of a manicure and would take me next. After she finished the person in her chair, she took another person, which I would hope already had an appointment. It's going on 40 minutes that I've been waiting and it's an inconvenience for me. If I knew I would be waiting over 30 minutes past my appointment time for an appointment that I already booked, I would have rescheduled to tomorrow, even though I wanted my appointment for today. As a new business, I think they need to work on time management, which seems to be an issue. They need to display realistic time frames for each service, as it appears that previous appointments are cutting into the next one. They do pretty good work and I understand they're new, but they should work on their scheduling. read more

Krissy was late, rude and seemed just overall aggravated that I existed. I asked for the overlay to be as thin as possible. She proceeded to lay on the thickest gel I've ever seen on my nails. Any tweaks or adjustments I asked for she rolled her eyes and sighed so loudly. I asked for a pale pink color. When she put it on my nails it looked different from the color swatch she put on her PURPLE nails so I asked for a different color and she was so offended. Of course I couldn't tell how the shade would show up on my unpainted nails compared to her bright nails. She just stared me down saying "well this is the color you chose." I don't know why it was such a big deal to wipe the one nail and just use the other shade that was right there. It's not as though I waited until everything was painted and cured until I said I preferred something else. If I hadn't needed the appointment so badly I would have walked away. In the end I paid almost $100 including tip for botched nails I'm now paying another $100 to fix. Horrible attitude. Won't be back. I found this nail salon in tik tok that was black owned and wanted to support. First I tried to make an appointment with them and they barely have availability. Fortunately they were able to squeeze me in. First off I waited 30 mins to finally be seated and once I was seated I was given extreme attitude by Krissy. She acted like she didn't want to do my nails and told me that my design took too long and wasn't simple. And Everytime I asked a question she sighed and kissed her teeth. They are also very under staffed. Melissa was nice and moved very efficiently but also did a good job. This establishment's priority is not good customer service. I've never received such bad customer service in this capacity in a nail salon, not even at non-black-owned establishments. Unfortunately, this is a black-owned business. I have been going to Vanity Bar for 6 months. I had my first appointment with Francesca. She was great energy, so I continued booking my appointments with her. I was in need of a fill-in but unfortunately, Francesca was unavailable, so I booked with any available nail tech. My appointment was with Krissy. I arrived at my appointment last week Thursday, and was told by Krissy to wash my hands. When I sat down at her table I said "hello" to her, but she said nothing back. She was busy on her phone, so I assumed that maybe she didn't hear me. I noticed she had a nice design on her nails, I asked to look at it and told her that her nails were really cute. She said nothing back, she continued filing my nails. A few minutes past by. I noticed that one of my nails that had previously lifted, she clipped and filed down. I was glad that it did not have to be replaced with a new nail. So just to make conversation, I stated "I thought I would of had to get rid of this nail" and giggled. She looked at me like I was crazy. This is when I realized she was just off. She looked like she didn't want to do my nails or she was just irritated that I was there. It's an uncomfortable feeling to be in an establishment, paying over $85 for a service and receiving such unpleasant customer service. Once my fill-in was completed she asked me what design did I want and rudely said "You didn't add nail art" I went straight to my camera roll to show her a pic of the nails that I wanted. I guess I wasn't moving fast enough for her so she immediately, and rudely asked again. She looked at the design and asked "What color is that?!" I said I don't know. She looked behind her, irritated at the gel polishes, grabbed some color swatches and she slammed them down. I chose a color, and she picked up the nail swatch and made a face. She then started to paint my nails. After doing 4 fingers she stated "I hate doing French." I was literally over the whole experience. This turned me off from supporting this establishment. I will never come back here again. She was just so unprofessional. She is not even aware or conscious of what to say or not say. The customer service is very poor. You usually hear them gossiping and talking about each other and other customers. I work in management at a company, Krissy is not a person I would want to have working for my business. This girl has to be a family member or close friend of the owners, because by the looks of the other reviews she has received similar criticism since 2020. You would think she would at least have great nail tech skills. The acrylic is so thick and wide. She did well with the nail art though. Im not sure why she is still working here. I've been a regular customer since the opening of this salon and have been pleased with the service. I know that the owners are two Black men who opened this business to respond to a void they saw in Black owned businesses (especially nail salons) in the Black community. Their plans sustained a setback due to a fire but they regrouped, rebuilt and persevered, even in the midst of a pandemic that shuttered many businesses permanently. The salon is clean, the vibe is pleasant and all of the nail techs seem to work in a congenial manner. I've witnessed them consulting with one another to make sure that the client receives processional service. Lately I have seen negative reviews posted criticizing the male owners because they "don't do nails." This is unfair criticism for as owners they have hired professional nail technicians to provide service to their clientele. I have also recently seen negative reviews posted by former nail technicians who can't seem to move on without burning bridges by criticizing their former place of business. So kudos to these young men and their LOYAL nail techs for persevering even in the midst of turbulent times. read more

The week before their grand opening in 2018 I was so excited to support this newly opened black business and then I heard a tragedy hit which derailed everything. Well let's fast forward to August 2020. It was worth the wait. I fell in love with the atmosphere, the staff, and how the owner Dave and Patrick made sure you felt welcome and walked out 100% satisfied with the work that was done. I've been here twice since it's grand opening. Very happy with my experience overall both times! Upon entering I was greeted by several people. My temperature was taken immediately, then was asked to wash my hands thoroughly before my service began and everyone wore masks. I LOVE this as they are taking careful precautions to avoid any contamination of COVID. Both of my techs were professional, nice and did an amazing job on my pedicure (which have lasted beautifully for almost 4 weeks!!) I never felt rushed and they took their time with me. Don't be fooled by the nail art. I scheduled an appointment online for a gel manicure and a regular pedicure, which was supposed to take 2 hours and five minutes. When I arrived, my nail tech, Keshia, was working on someone else, and I was told to wait. Eventually, it was determined that there wasn't time for both services, so I opted for the manicure. I was told that I would be contacted later on about rebooking the pedicure and receiving 10% off (no one ever called me, but that's fine). When I did sit down to get my nails done, the nail tech worked extremely slowly and didn't have time to do the design that I requested. Her suggestion was to add stickers, which eventually lifted, chipped and looked horrible. The other nail tech was encouraging her to charge me extra for the 2 stickers! She also used an electric file on my nails and left deep groves, which I am still trying to grow out. read more
