I would like to give Dr. Vandemarks office a huge THANK YOU for all that they do! We have been going to his office for more then 11 years. Let me start by saying that I have had some bad luck with dentists in the past while growing up. I use to require gas just to calm my nerves. I even started out in Dr. V's office getting gas for the first couple if visits until I realized I really didn't need it. I usually require more numbing medicine then some and after the first time or two, I never had to remind him. Dr. V is a great Dentist and always makes me, along with my boys at ease. He has a great chairside manner with his patients and his technique for giving injections is wonderful. If you fear the dentist, this is a place you can feel at comfortable. Let me be honest, I have suggested that maybe if he wasn't so good, my boys would fear getting a filling and stop eating sugar all together. He has been my boys only dentist and they trust him completely and are fearless when getting into his chair. We have had a couple of emergencies in the last few years so I have had my shed of tears in his office. His office staff is wonderful, and always accommodating in whatever way they can be. They are a great staff that Dr. V is lucky to have. Most of them have been there since I can remember, it says a lot about the office as a whole. Our most recent emergency came with my 11 year old son. I received a call that he had a scooter accident at the skate park and that he had lost his two front teeth, his adult teeth, I was scared as to what I was going to see after this call, in the meantime I called into the office to let them know what had happened, the office was actually close to closing hours and they were able to fit my son in. When my son was brought home, I was completely shocked by what I saw, he was scared to death, and truthfully so was I. I knew in my heart that I could trust Dr. V's treatment 100%. When we got to the office, the ladies took Kobe back immediately and at that time, I actually lost it because I was so scared to hear what this meant to my son, with his 6th grade graduation coming up, all these thoughts were running through my head. The staff cleaned him up and got to work. While I waited, I was in tears and was being comforted and assured he was going to be ok. Its tough when your child is so scared that he is going to be "ugly" for his graduation, and his beautiful teeth are missing and his mouth is a bloody mess, not something I wanted to see. Because of the professionalism of the office, and the quality of work Dr V does, I wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else. Luckily my sons teeth were able to be bonded back together (thankfully some kids picked up his teeth and sent them home with him) Today, nobody can even tell. Dr. Vandemark did a fabulous job! Dr. Vandemark was my children's first dentist and I plan for him to be their last. He does quality dentistry as well as orthodontia. My oldest son had a small mouth with huge teeth that were going all directions. Now he boasts a beautiful smile. My 2nd son is in braces currently with a third one waiting for permanent teeth to arrive. The staff is friendly and professional. Being a Modesto resident for over 30 years, Dr. V was not our first dentist, however he will definitely be our last. My family has been patients of Dr. V's for 10 years now, and I will never go anywhere else! To say that, "Dr. V is a great dentist..." is not enough to describe the services and professional treatment that he and his staff has to offer their patients. Their primary strength is their ability to take even the most frightened patients (my family was PETRIFIED to see the dentist), and make them feel comfortable....not an easy task to accomplish considering we used to literally TREMBLE in the dentist chair! Each one of us can now walk into the dentist office knowing, without a doubt, that we have nothing to be afraid of. Dr. V's communication skills and "chair-side manner" is like no other dentist. He continues to impress my 11 year old son, which is what prompted me to write this review for other families who might be looking for a family dentist. He takes care of all ages! My son had a toothache recently, and he was terrified to go in but knew he had to. He left the office saying, "if Dr. V can do THAT without me feeling anything, I will never be scared of him again!". Any mother knows, those words make you realize you are seeing the right professional for your family. Throughout the last 10 years, Dr. V and his staff have provided us with a multitude of services, such as; orthodontics, fillings, abstractions, routine cleanings, and more! We've even had a weekend sports emergency, which was handled & taken care of immediately, beginning with a triage phone interview! The old saying is, "it starts at the top....", and this is very true for Dr. V's office because his professional manners travel throughout each and every one of his staff members. It is obvious they enjoy their work environment. I think that says it all. I had attempted to make an appointment with this office on the recommendation of a current patient of theirs. I was in need of a new local dentist as I had just moved to the area, they were unable to get me in within a decent amount of time so I went to another recommended provider. I happened to be at a local event chatting with, what turns out to be, a former patient of this office, and they had a similar experience-only on a more detrimental scale...they were a patient of record and had a dental emergency, with extreme pain. When calling in to be seen they were told there were no appointments available until 7 days later. Well this patient didn't expect any special treatment or to have any other patients be displaced-they were willing to sit for however long it took and be "worked in", they were in a lot of pain. No matter, they didn't have anything sooner.....what? Biggest concern was that no other option was offered, the office manager was rude and they were not even offered any kind of medication suggestion for pain or an antibiotic in case of infection while they waited 7 days to be seen. I don't know about any of you, but a problem in the mouth is pretty unbearable, let alone for days not to mention what an infection could potentially do to someone. They ended up going to another provider/location only to find that they in fact had an infection along with needing a root canal. Is this the way a patient of record is typically treated when in pain and in need of care? On top of all that, when they have crossed paths with the dentist away from his office, they were treated very rudely by him, when in the past that wasn't the case (they had expressed their stress etc...to the office during the incident), is that they way a medical provider, let alone a businessman, would behave? I don't think so, isn't the client or patient supposed to be the point of concern-right or wrong? Not very professional for sure. They had been advised that, in light of being a patient of record and that they had an active infection and were not being taken care of, they should have filed a formal complaint with the board. Not sure of what happened after, but I know I would never recommend anyone go to this, or any, provider who cannot accommodate an emergency in a timely manner (come to find out, others had the same experience and I could not get an appointment either so).
