THIS PLACE ROCKS!
I am not a vegetarian or vegan, or even an aficionado of Mexican foods, but this place was not on the top of my list to dine at. The only reason we went to Vandal was because one of our group is a vegan and we couldn't get into the vegan pizza place down the road.
OH! HEAVENS TO BETSY! I am so happy to find this tasty gem of a place.
Right from the moment we got to the entrance and asked for a table, everything went right! As packed as they were, they had a table. Yes they do take reservation .... which can me done online and changed online - nice!
Straight away we were asked what we wanted to drink (as an ex-restaurantuer this was a must for my staff). Whilst we waited for our drinks our waitperson took the time to introduce us to the place, automatically answering all the questions we might have been going to ask.
Drinks came pronto and we were left alone for a couple of sips (perfect) before our waitperson asked if we had any questions about the menu. We didn't. Then she asked if were would like some starters, we did.
When the starters came, we were once again left alone to consume and discuss (well .... discussion consisted of the lost of 'mmmmmmmmms' of joy). Now we're a whole lot more enthusiastic about this vegan place.
After a minute or two our waitperson was back to ask us how we went. They then asked if we would like another drink (perfect) when we said yes, they took the order and then told us they would put the order in and come back for our mains order, only if we were ready.
WE WERE READY BABY!
We went with the $30 and five/six dishes. They were all Fabulous! Thus we ordered more at the end, not because we were still hungry, but just to try it all again.
Vandal is tip top and a wonderful addition to the Newtown/Enmore restaurant strip.
Two gripes, one can not be fixed. The first, noisy and loud and I had to squint to hear others, but I am old. The second, their matching of tastes to the real thing was marvellous, but it would be great to tastes vegan dishes which don't try to mimic general food. I'd like to see them develop vegan dishes which are enhancement of the plant.
