Tasty menu - a little noisy but a great energy and vibe. Cocktail specials were on point!

The location was so off the typical path that if I didn't know about this restaurant, I would never have walked by and decided to stop by. The decor was classically Chinese and modern at the same time. On the traditional side, they had roasted ducks hanging off a rack, yet the interior was so beautifully and tastefully decorated that it didn't feel tacky or old-fashioned in an offensive way. The food was spot on. We ordered the following: 1. Kang-pao chicken 2. Bamboo, woodear and celery stir fry - this dish was punched with flavor, had great umami, my only complaint was that the bamboo shoots were a bit tough 3. Hot pot stuffed tofu with pork and shrimp in abalone sauce - this was a WINNER! This dish felt like home. It was so comforting and the flavors and textures were in perfect harmony. This dish was served hot which I loved since Sydney is still in winter. It was a perfect dish and the concept worked well. Service was excellent. 5/5 Ambiance was excellent 5/5 Food was good. 4.5/5 We had a great time! I recommend making a reservation. The place was full when we first arrived for lunch when it opened at noon on a Saturday.

The restaurant is tucked away on a sort of back street. Kinda reminded me of the cool restaurants and speakeasies hidden in NYC's Chinatown. There are at least two floors from what I can see and the vibe is immaculate. Great date or group spot. My group had a reservation but we did have to wait a few minutes to be seated. Once we were, our server was awesome (I wish I remembered her name). But let's talk food. The oysters and Ora King Salmon were fantastic. We also ordered prawns, a certain beef order (I forget the exact names) as well as the special fried rice. Everything hit -- including the drinks. Looking forward to my next trip to Sydney (and hitting this spot up).

We opted for the "deluxe feed me" which is a chefs tasting menu. Everything we had was good but the standouts for me were kingfish sashimi (so, so, so delicious) and watermelon sashimi. The latter was crazy - it's marinated watermelon and honestly you could believe you were eating tuna. Great for vegans. We left stuffed and happy. Two thumbs up.

In search of a lighter dinner, we came to Kid Kyoto for some small plates, excited to try their…read morecreative dishes which are described as "rebellious izakaya". You can opt for choosing the chef's set which is a predetermined menu, or order a la carte to create your own spread. We selected six items that appealed most to us which was the perfect amount for everyone in our group of four to get a taste of it all. + CORN RIBS (A$20): This fully vegetarian item was surprisingly my favorite of the evening. Ears of corn were cut vertically through the cob, creating spears that you could eat like ribs to bite off the kernels. The "ribs" were coated in caramelized miso butter and rolled in furikake. The corn was naturally sweet while the butter added a savory umami punch. This is my new favorite way to eat corn! + CHICKEN KARAAGE (A$20): Lightly battered pieces of chicken were meaty, tender and piping hot. The exterior was delightfully crispy and a sweet gochujang dipping sauce gave it a bit of heat and extra flavor. + WAGYU MB9 SKEWERS (A$28): Each skewer had four cubes of beef grilled and glazed in a sweet teriyaki sauce. The meat had a good char to it, but a few pieces were a bit chewy and fibrous, making them a little tough to bite. While I enjoyed the flavor, I was expecting the beef to be more tender, so I was a little disappointed with the quality. + EGGPLANT DENGAKU (A$26): Half an eggplant came with a sweet soy-based sauce and topped with sour cream, wild rice furikake and almonds. I personally didn't like the sour cream on top since it was quite heavy and overwhelming after we spread it across the eggplant. The texture was creamy and mushy, except for the sprinkles of crunch from the toppings. I normally love eggplant, but didn't care for this dish as a whole. + SCALLOPS (A$22): A grilled scallop was placed on a small disk of potato mochi, and two pieces came in one order. The scallop itself was smooth and tender but it did have a bit of fishiness to it. Other than that, this didn't have much flavor, so I personally would skip it. + GRILLED MOCHI (A$12): A creative plate of grilled mochi squares topped with crumbles of chicken skin furikake and a dusting of curry spice. The mochi had a nice chew to it and the salty chicken skin excited my palette while the curry added some warmth. I've never had anything like this before so it was quite unique. Overall, I enjoyed my meal here and it was fun to try so many diverse dishes. Just be aware that some of their small plates come with just two servings (in our case, the skewers, mochi and scallops), so you may need to multiply your order to accommodate your table. I appreciated the friendly and quick service. We were seated immediately at 6:00P on a Wednesday and with this restaurant being located in the CBD, it got busier as people ended their workday. The staff was friendly, greeted us promptly and was attentive to our empty dishes and filling our waters. While I didn't love everything we ordered, I recommend trying Kid Kyoto since the environment is perfect for a night out to unwind after work, or with friends on the weekend. If you're up for shareable plates perhaps with a drink, this is the place for you.

Still, passing its high tech door and descending a flight of industrial-grade stairs, one wonders what is in store. The good news is that what one is offered is a menu of mostly Chinese cuisine, with a few Japanese and Korean flourishes that transforms the food from good, but typical to the truly flavorful and interesting. The food, as the name implies, focuses on the spicy. While there are some relatively tame dishes for the sensitive palate, the real winners tend to be those that will get the endorphins flowing. Personal favorites include the Hot and Numbing dry wagyu brief (it WILL numb your mouth) and the Wuxi pork ribs. There are also a number of sides and desserts that are well worth exploring. Is it cheap? Well, what is in Sydney? This is definitely not your Thai place down the road with the silly pun in its name; Spice Temple is more for special occasions. But it is also something of an institution. If you haven't been and live here, I don't think you can call properly yourself a Sydney-Sider.

Food was good but I am only giving a three stars because of a few annoying things - I sent a message to them on their website a week in advance, hoping to make a reservation. No reply. It turned out that they do not take reservations, but still, a reply would have been nice - Food took FOREVER. I get it, a small restaurant and hence a small kitchen. But it shouldnt take over 20 mins to cook some dumplings. - waitress didnt know the menu? ("I dont' really know what is it, as it's the first day on the menu"). Not cool. - Tables are pretty close to one another, I didnt like how you cant help but to overhear others' conversation and vice versa. Dumplings were pretty decent ,so was the beef curry - meat was sooo tender + grilled yummy roti ! I would recommend this place if you are around the area, but if not, dont bother :)

The dumpling flavours are unique and worthy of a try (I loved the snowpea and crab and the prawn and scallop). I also highly recommend the Lamb Shank Massaman, the flavours were rich and perfect on a Winter's night. You cannot book at this restaurant so I suggest you head there early as it's quite small and every table was taken the whole time we were there. Prices are also very reasonable considering the service and quality of food was so good. Will definitely be returning to try more dumplings!

It's really literal (like a lot of Australian places)...kind of like General Pants Company, BWS, Chinese Noodle Restaurant, but in the same vein of those places, the name belies how good the place is. The food is on point!!!! Wanted to grab a bite after catching Vivid Sydney from across the Harbour and was pleasantly surprised by this joint. Good decor, friendly service, and a huge variety of tasty dishes. If you come on Monday-Tuesday it's $10 for all tapas, provided cash only...and they do yum cha too. Ordered an oyster shot, pork belly pancakes, seaweed salad, roasted eggplant, lamb ribs, and pork cutlet for roughly $70...pretty good deal to get stuffed. The standouts were the pork belly pancakes, the lamb ribs, and the eggplant. I'll be back the next time I'm in Kirribilli to try their other dishes...but seriously try those pork belly pancakes.

The best dishes of the night were the Signature Wontons (some of the freshest and lightest wontons I've ever had) and the Char-Grill eggplant with soy miso glaze (the glaze is amazing!) The letdown was the Wagyu beef but that might have been because I had the Wagyu the prior day at Mr Wong's and that had me almost knocked off my chair. One of the best and understated places I've been to in Crow's Nest for dinner!
