Veggie taco lentils and perfectly cooked plantain!
    Chanye N.

Tolerable tacos. We all know how weak the Mexican food scene is downunder. But it's human to love tacos. So our choices become, make at home, travel to Mexico, get so drunk the pub tacos taste good. I was looking for a fourth option that also included table service. Then I was handed a $25 all you can eat taco flyer. Hence this review. They are at least tying here and the tacos are tolerable. Generous serves even. Nice topping touches such as shredded lettuce and crisped carrot strips. Best bite of food was the plantain from the lentil/veggie taco. If you are looking for a fixed price group dinner on Saturday or Sunday the $25 taco fest may be as good as we get in this Latin-American challenged ciudad!

Being Mexican, I thought I would probably be disappointed by Mexican food cooked in Australia, and my expectations were not high. However, I was proved wrong! We ate here, because my kids were clamoring for something other than "fish and chips" and "pizza/pasta". We ordered the Tacos de Carnitas. The meat was very well seasoned/marinated and it was soft. The tacos were served with a pineapple sauce/topping that made them DELICIOUS! The sweetness of the pineapple blended very well with the pork. We also ordered the Guacamole (which had a non-traditional sprinkling of pomegranate seeds), which was very creamy and had an excellent flavor, and a unique crunch with the additional sprinkling of the pomegranate seeds and the sampling of the hot sauces. One of the hot sauces, the one with Habanero was extremely hot, great flavor, and so addicting, I could not stop eating it! Also, the habanero sauce went very well with the Carnitas tacos. Note: My recommendation for the habanero sauce would be to tame it a bit, I think it might be too spicy for the local taste. They also had an all you can eat Taco special for AU$25 and lunch specials advertised. It was also a bit expensive at $8 for each taco de carnitas, but considering how far Mexico is from here, I imagine buying the supplies, must be quite expensive and Mexican food is more of an exotic cuisine. I also want to note that the menu is not traditional Mexican food, all dishes had their own unique twist, but putting that aside, the guacamole, carnitas and habanero hot sauce were amazing!

Level 6 in the Westfield mall gets you away from the noise and chaos with the food hall on level 5. The Mexican restaurant a lovely riot of colour and a sense of space. We opted for the 7 taco tasting for $30 and this was filling for two adults ... The taco's were soft and the fillings varied but by far the taco that got our vote was the fish taco. For those that want extra heat there is 'hot sauce'!!!

What they advertise as a large bowl is in fact a small one. I was expecting to be filled up for $13. Far from it. The food was okay.

SOOO GOOD!), ceviche which I could eat all day, a tuna steak that was cooked to perfection, fish tacos (the famous fish and the yucatan) with a grain salad and a margarita each.

They did seat us under a staircase and it was annoying hearing the heavy footsteps stomping up and down throughout dinner service. The food was very good to stellar! As others have mentioned, the Tacos are King here. Tartare Tacos are amazing, and we loved the Salmon Civiche and the carnitas tacos, as well. Flathead Civiche was delicious, Brussels Sprouts were super tasty, and we also enjoyed the twice cooked Pork Belly. Not so good was the Pato Ahumado. The mole was really tasty but not enough, and the breast was really tough and fatty, plus no proper cutlery provided. Really disappointing, as we couldn't eat or enjoy it and it was like we just threw $72 away. While I did appreciate their coursing, we did wait for long periods between. Cocktails were good, as was a glass of wine, but pours are very light. Recommended, for sure. Avoid the duck.

Drinks were better than the food. They stuff the families toward the back but lack any amenities (no changing table) except a high chair. Service started off friendly but it took a while to get someone to take our order and then they forgot our dish which came out cold when we asked for it. Then we had to flag someone down to pay the bill. The watermelon salad was tasty but not complex, tossed with a few cucumbers and pistachios. The corn lollipops with spicy mayo sauce were probably the best dish. The beef empanadas were cold and average though the salsa was an interesting pickled onion. Definitely skip the octopus dish- it was dry, over cooked and lacked flavor though the presentation looked promising. It came with squares of polenta and dallops of potato mash with a dramatic squid ink streak across the dish but no interesting flavors stood out. All those dishes and still left hungry. The Guadalajara passion fruit drink was easy to sip and not too strong. The beer was average. This is more of a spot to grab some mixed cocktails and a few snacks but not meal worthy.

We started off with Margarita's - they have $10 margaritas on Mondays (or perhaps all weekdays). We lost count of how many we had, they were so good. On to the food, we tried a little bit of everything - we ordered corn lollipops, jalapeño poppers, grilled halloumi, batata bravas to start and we shared 2 items from the grill which I can't remember (probably because of the margarita's). We ended with churros & chocolate sauce which was awesome. Service was good and the staff waiting us was very friendly. He also recommended us portions for certain items to match our party size. For instance, we didn't have to order 2 portions of an appetizer instead we could order one and a half portion which I think was great. It allowed us to chose more dishes than more quantity of the same dish.

We sat upstairs in the outdoor space. I really wanted Horchata, but they were out of it. Since I was quite hungry, I ordered Tempura Barramundi (fish) Tacos and Smoked Brisket Burger. The Tacos were delicious! The Tempura Barramundi were delightfully crunchy, perfectly tender and flaky, and well seasoned. The jalapeño crema, cabbage, onion, and coriander were nice additions and worked well together. Smoked Brisket Burger was also very enjoyable, consisting of sliced wagyu brisket, salsa verde, avocado crema, lettuce, pickled jalapeño, as well as queso on a potato bun. This was served with shoestring fries. That Wagyu brisket was rich, robust in beef flavor with creamy texture, tender, and juicy. The fries were also tasty, perfectly crispy and addicting. Service was okay. We had to order at the bar, were given a number to place at our table, then were served at the table.
