Came for dinner with 3 of my girlfriends. We had an outside reservation and we were a little nervous as it was lightly raining. We were under an umbrella and an overhang of the roof. With light rain it wasn't a problem but heavy rain would have been. The waitress was great! Super friendly and offered up lots of suggestions. The food was amazing. We split the special stuffed zucchini flower appetizer and got a half loaf of bread. For entrees we all got pastas of some sort and they were all fabulous. I had heard about this establishment when it first opened years ago but never made it. I decided to treat myself tonight and wow! The food was delicious. I ordered the focaccia and spaghetti. Generous portions. I had the Italian 75 for a drink and it was perfectly refreshing. Food is excellent at this place , what can I say . It's a gem of a place dine out with your wife or on a date. Maybe even on date night I've eat here twice and the experience was outstanding both times. I'm a displaced Rhode Islander living in Massachusetts for many years now and when I go home to little Rhode Island I have a couple places I always return to and this is now on my list. I got the lamb both times and it was roasted perfectly also the wine list they have is very nice. They have a great selection of red wines and a cocktail list that matches up nicely for a dessert drink . The staff is very welcoming too. Tried this place tonight for the first time, and I can't wait to go back.....food is delicious and full of flavor. Started off with the appetizer special which was focaccia bread sun dried tomato spread, grilled broccoli, and pecorino cheese with lemon anchovie drizzle. For dinner I got a swordfish special with chick peas in a sunflower pasta sauce, fish was cooked perfectly, was dried out or nothing of over done. My girlfriend had the bucatini Cacio Pepe with sausage and a piece of burrata cheese on top also very tasty. For desert I had a desert special which was a mango panache surrounded by dark chocolate with a citrusy caramel glaze, it was to die for....my girlfriend had the butterscotch pudding, with pecan and chocolate crumbles. As far as the service, our waitress was very attentive and informative. I Only reason why I couldn't give them 5 stars was because of the size of the place, it's very cramped, people were bumping into my girlfriend all night cause we were in the center of the table and the noise level. I also made a reservation for 6pm but didn't get seated untill 6:30pm because they were so busy. Other than that it was a very nice experience and I will definitely be returning. read more

Vanda would always get 5 stars from me every time I eat there, but not this time. You spend 403.68 before the 80 dollar cash tip I left, and get told to leave because there is a 9 p.m reservation is absurd. To me that is just poor customer service, and they should be ashamed of themselves. I'm very disappointed, and won't be back anytime soon. Note the restaurant is small and right off a busy road do the view is traffic, but I am here because I'm hungry. 1st the Old Fashion. Pleasant and refreshing, wish I was driving or I would order another, just with less ice (recommended doing exactly that if you order one). Glad I have the drink because they are growing the salad before serving it...ok it came out all at once. AND IT ON POINT! Crisp and varying flavor from salt to acidic to fresh greens with each bite. OMG the VEAL! Paired with the polenta!!! I just had a mouth-gasm at 2:50. Great! They did leave the membrane on (said I was a snob upfront). And the desert in the picture, just get it. I missed the name as the server described it but is light and amazing. Service is good, don't be looking for black tie. Bottomline: I came for food and was pessimistic, and I have been happy proven wrong. Prices are reasonable not low. This place was a surprising and welcome treat! We've been twice in as many months and it was amazing each time, both food and service (we really enjoy our server, Mark!) They're not lying about the focaccia; it's seriously delicious slathered with butter, garlic and oil. Great texture. They had run out on our second visit which allowed us to try the steak tartar we were eyeing. I think the steak texture could've been a bit better but the flavors and perfect little crostini vehicles made it a worthy sub for the missing focaccia. The pasta has a great chew and their sauces coat it just right. My special of orecchiette pasta the other night was a winner: orecchiette with brusselsprouts, guanciale, sausage and parm. I will be thinking of that dish for a long time. It was a satisfying umami bomb that I couldn't stop eating. Seriously. I ate it all and had to live with a full carb belly for the night but it was worth it!! We also have tried their veal Milanese, veal parm and their amatriciana. All seasoned and cooked to perfection. I am in love with this shiny star of dining tucked in the heart of Apponaug. You may need a couple trips around the tricky rotary (which is ironically less tricky than it used to be) to figure out your entry point but your patience will be generously rewarded. Not only will you enjoy superb, authentic Italian cooking but you will also receive attentive service from the moment you walk in until the time you leave. Insider tip? Use the entrance that's directly across from Cumberland Farms. There's usually a couple available parking spots over there AND you don't have to compete with the customer parking with the fish market next door. There's indoor and outdoor dining options and I've enjoyed both. You may be thinking "why would I want to sit outside IN the midst of the Apponaug traffic chaos?" I can assure you that these folks have created outdoor dining space that really provides an oasis to enjoy your company and the food. The traffic is merely background noise. Inside table dining is charming. Great dinner music - some Sinatra and other classic Italian crooners usually - compliments the crisp decor that is tastefully decorated with a nod to the Italian roots of the place. I am a huge fan of the burrata version of the caprese salad that features a basil purée drizzle over yellow and red tomatoes that are lightly dressed in balsamic vinegar and oil with a pop of coarse ground sea salt. I love adding fresh ground pepper. The portion is large enough to share and is a refreshing starter for the main event, the entrees. I've been here a few times. My favorite dish was a special one night- butter poached cod that was served over tender sautéed greens, canellini beans and roasted tomatoes. There were also some oven roasted baby potatoes that were crispy but creamy. If they ever have that, get it! It literally whispered "Summer in Rhode Island" with every bite. (OK-that was my inner voice lol) Light meal but complex and satisfying. Would totally rock as a staple on the menu. I've also had the veal Milanese. The generous portion of crispy veal cutlet is nestled atop a medley of artichokes, escarole, morsels of prosciutto in a lemon caper sauce topped with a hefty portion of arrugala and shaved Parmesan. Come to think of it, there was no pasta alongside but it was so delish in its own! I have made it to dessert once and enjoyed a delightfully dense but tender olive oil cake with lemon curd and berry compote. Definitely worth a try and great to share. Our servers have always been unobtrusively attentive at every point of our dining experience. Morgan is a delight! I've had the pleasure of meeting the owner and he's is a gracious host - making a stop simply to check on guests and say hello. Reservations are a must as its an intimate dining space and very popular. Definitely worth the trips through the Apponaug roundabouts to enjoy great service and delightful dining. read more

We had eaten at this same location ten years ago, when it was known as Red Tomato. It was wonderful then, but the new iteration was a something magical and delightfully surprising. We've been fans of Vanda since it opened and recommended it to so many people, but something has changed. They've gotten so popular that it seems they care more about profit than guests. We were at the bar last week and had a great meal. paid our bill and left a 30% tip. We were finishing up and chatting when the bartender came over and said other people were waiting for our spot and we had to go. When I was leaving there was only one couple who looked to be waiting and they already had drinks. I get that if you sit at a table there's a 90 minute limit, but I've never in my life been asked to give up a seat at the bar due to a time limit. It really felt like they had gotten my money from me and now it was time to get the h$ll out. read more

Really happy I tried this place! My mom and I came in on a Friday night and shared the focaccia, mussels, eggplant parm, and bolognese. I definitely recommend the focaccia the garlic spread and herbed butter was delicious. Also, the eggplant parm appetizer is the best I've had! Additionally, make sure you save room for dessert the olive oil cake cannot be missed. We truly enjoyed our time at the restaurant and the service was great. My only complaint is you are truly held to the 90 min table limit. If you are someone who like to relax and have a few cocktails you should make note of this. We went here for the first time for a date night this evening. We made an early reservation for 4pm. The place started getting busy within the hour. Our server, Alexis, was fantastic. He gave great recommendations and did not steer us wrong during our visit. Cocktails were good. Highly recommend the focaccia bread to start. We also tried the Farm Greens salad - very fresh. For the main course, we had the Fettuccine Bolognese and the Gnocchi (add Meatballs on top, per our server's recommendation). Dessert was the goat cheese cheesecake with wine-soaked pears and basil garnish. Everything was phenomenal! We will definitely be back again.
