Poor experience here a few months ago.
Came to deposit a number of cheques on behalf of the property I manage. Unfortunately, business deposits must be done by tellers. I waited about ten minutes in line and then waited while the teller reviewed the five cheques. The teller was being thorough and I can appreciate that. However, after taking some time she singled out a particular check and told me they would not be able to negotiate it. Being that it was a vancity check in payment of rent, I knew that meant only one thing. However, I don't believe it is a teller's job to stop a check from being cashed because a VanCity member does not have enough funds in their account. I explained to the teller clearly and as calmly as I could that I was the property manager and not the writer of the check and that I had too much else to do at the property to babysit the people who live there and that if the check was going to bounce it was going to bounce and that was none of my concern. Eventually, the branch supervisor came over and agreed with me that the check should be deposited to the property but this was clearly an overreach and should never have happened.
My personal experience with vancity credit Union in general has been poor. It's supposed to be a local credit union for the members and not about profits but my experience has being that they're e transfers have been unreliable, they've had service-wide outages and they have not been able to keep meetings that we have set with them or respect our time and deposits. I found that there not proactive in any respect and instead reactive and when you're dealing with people's money, that's the worst approach you can take. read more
