Been servicing our generator for over a decade but when the power went out and the battery died and it was one of the coldest days of the year, they did not answer their phones, even their so called "emergency line". When they did finally call numerous hours later when our house was down to 60 degrees we'd contacted a different company. I'm not calling anyone else from here on out. They're just that good. They installed and maintain my whole house generator. The price was more than competitive, quality of work and materials amazing (second generator installed for same house). Had one trouble call do to ants on the motherboard, they were out there the next day. Taylor came and cleaned them out and we installed ant traps all around. Next up are the outside sconce lights, all are dated and old so they'll be replacing those for me. A finished basement is a little further down the road. Hiring Vanceletric was a challenging and sometimes frustrating experience that I would not recommend. They are perfectly capable of installing a generator safely, but my experience bore all the hallmarks of what most consumers don't seek out when working with a contractor - poor communication, high information asymmetry, and the feeling that they genuinely don't care about anything other than cashing your check. Vance is clearly busy and has a backlog of generators to install. I was fine waiting my turn, but at every step of the way, interacting with them was like pulling teeth. After Blake visited to provide an estimate, we didn't hear anything for several weeks. After two weeks I emailed to ask if a quote was coming, and it did a week later. The price was fine - the second lowest of four quotes - but it was retail. Vancelectric charged above MSRP on the Generac unit, but it's 2022 - I'm sure most companies do. Vance then had me fill out paperwork to get a split gas meter installed through Washington Gas. It seems like my paperwork got lost at the utility somehow. This wasn't Vance's fault, but they did nothing to explain the process, assist in figuring out the delay, or really show any concern. I was left to figure it out on my own (a process that took several months). If I had stopped communicating with Washington Gas, I'm pretty sure that I never would have heard from Vance again. Maybe that would have been preferable. Installation was where working with Vance was the most unpleasant. The process took three days, and from the moment they arrived, the three tradesmen made sure to let me know that they were not happy to be there, weren't interested in interacting with me (or hearing my preferences), and just overall couldn't care less. I went out of my way to be polite to them, but it seemed to make little difference. I was surprised at the location they selected to install the generator, and when I asked about an alternative spot (which I had also emailed about several months beforehand), the response was they weren't sure about it and "you don't want it there." So that was it. They proceeded to work in whatever way suited them best. They blamed county rules for the generator location, but then when I asked about other possibilities, they weren't willing to even consider them. When I asked if we could check with the county, the response was that the location Vance selected would work. I had been quoted for running a gas line through the basement ceiling, but they dismissed that. It would be faster to run it along the outside of the house, so that's where it is. I had discussed with the salesman putting the transfer switch in the basement, but it's on the exterior of the house. I can't remember if they bothered explaining that one to me, but I'm sure it's because it was more convenient for them. They had to shut off the power to perform work, which was fine, but I got maybe a 2 minute warning on that. After installation, they said that inspection would follow. There was then no communication at all for 2 weeks while they left a 2-foot trench in my yard. They then showed up at 8 am, bothering to call only at 7:57 am. They blamed the county inspectors, but the delay certainly doesn't explain why Vance didn't feel the need to contact me even once in the interim. Blake gave me a quick orientation on the unit and filled in the trench that had been sitting there for over two weeks. They were supposed to give me keys for the generator, but didn't. It was half locked and half unlocked. They gave me some Generac materials, but didn't bother to walk through them - I had to pull them out and ask questions. It turns out that they contained an emergency switch to transfer power. I asked why the grounding wire was loose in the dirt, and Blake explained that the inspector needed to see it, but then he would bury it; he didn't. He left the transfer switch open to the elements, which I assume is dangerous, so I put the cover back on. They said they would walk me through setting up the mobile app for the generator, but didn't. Blake left quickly to make another sales appointment. I don't know much about wiring, but it look to the laymen like it was done by somebody who just wanted to move quickly - the wires aren't organized, there's brick dust from drilling on the top of the wires, and things are stuck wherever they could fit. The process took 8 months, and it was a source of stress the entire time. With every interaction, the feeling was one of indifference - they have plenty of work and if they can easily finish your job, they will. But if they need to take extra time, or something unexpected pops up, your mileage may vary. read more

This company is good about when I need to schedule routine maintenance services. Anything schedule related is fine. Might have to wait a week or two but they come out. But, we've had lots of small problems with the generator that is fairly new and these problems are enough to cause the generator to stop working. They are not problems related with Vancelectric but with the generator itself. Now, when it comes to after hour or emergency services imo this company fell short for us. I've been disappointed more often than pleased. I have to follow up quite a bit to keep reminding them that we need help. Eventually after feeling guilty for bothering them so much they come through. I don't think it should take days; rarely, in some cases a week or more for someone to come out and diagnose a problem. I can get another company but, I do feel like Vancelectric knows what they're doing and I trust them. I wish they would show one of their loyal customers prompt emergency service when things go wrong on a generator that's only a couple years old that they installed. Overall I think this is a good company just a bit of improvement is needed for very good service. read more

We've used them every year or two for routine generator maintenance and they've been great. Had an issue recently where our generator wasn't working and they couldn't come out right away so we contacted another company who quoted us $1,500 to replace a part. I waited and reached back out to Vancelectric to get a second opinion from them and I'm glad I did. Nothing needed to be replaced, just cleaned, for the price of just the service call. They have been friendly whenever they come out, very helpful and patient with our questions, and have been a very honest, fair company to work with. Definitely recommend them! read more

Every single step was handled well - from showing up on time to assess our house and needs and explaining our options, to organizing the paperwork and permits, to following up to make sure Washington Gas showed up and did the advance work, to the smooth installation and final safety checks. No cost surprises, either! The crew that worked at the house were kind, polite, on time - and kept us abreast of what stage they were at and what to expect in terms of having to turn the power off. I have a similar experience to Matt R below. Took estimator two weeks just to come out, then was told it'll be around $12000 for a whole house generator. That was 3 weeks ago. Never heard back. No official quotes, no emails, nothing. We had to call them and was told "oh he'll get back to you." That was more than 1 week ago. If the company doesn't even give a damn to fulfill the basic job of providing a customer with a quote, what else is there to do? Apparently they are doing so well they just don't care. read more

My experience with them has only been with my generator. I had an issue with it a couple years ago and they were the only ones to respond. The tech was out the next day and quickly diagnosed the problem. He put me on a service plan to come out and change the oil and give it a once over every year. The power went out this morning and the generator kicked on. Much to my surprise, the freezers were not getting power. Not a good scenario. I called Vance at 7AM and even while on vacation he answered the phone. 15 minutes later Randy from his team called me back and said he would be here at 10AM. Sure enough, he was here at 945AM and did some quick trouble shooting and diagnosed as a loose connection in the transfer switch. Fixed and had him service the generator while he was onsite. Tested everything and we are up and running. These guys are super responsive, reasonable, trustworthy and they know what they are doing. Any electrical or generator issue-call them. Searched for companies for Generac Generator installation and service/maintenance. Wanted to deal with a "local" company and had heard about Vance Electric so wanted to give them a try - went to their website and filled out email request for someone to contact me. After three days of no response, I called their sales number multiple times (approx 1-2 hours after their website said they were open) and got no response there either. Left detailed voice message with my contact information and no one has returned my call (after another three days of waiting).
