So i had to find a doctor quick... just in case. I remember looking up reviews on both google and yelp for reviews for doctors in town... and even in nearby Lima and Delphos. This is by the way not very helpful as there is a dearth of reviews for medical professionals it seems. I don't remember exactly why i chose Van Wert Family Physicians, but i called in to the office and asked to become a new patient. I was directed to fill out some paperwork online. I did so. Now there are a number of doctors who work there, i asked to be seen by Dr. Kristen Pollock, who my mother was already using. Super happy i did. She is awesome! Great doc... caring, honest. The visits i had during the pandemic were all virtual, it wasn't until a year later i got to meet and have a full check up with her but it was a crazy 2020. Honestly, i don't think i have had such a good doctor since my pediatrician back before i became an adult. Maybe i am just used to things being different in Miami, Florida where i am originally from. Health care there... sucks. Your a number, nothing more. Even when you are seeing someone who cares, they are incredibly busy and overworked. They only have so much time for you. Dr. Pollock takes time to make sure you are healthy and stay healthy. The staff is wonderful overall. Its never difficult to get a hold of someone to make an appointment nor to talk to the nurse if i have some issue. And talking about times, unlike Miami... you see your doc at your scheduled appointment time.. no waiting hours to see one. Van Wert Family Physicians also is where i got my covid shots... happy to have gotten them! Just love the level of care this place gives! If you are looking for a good primary care/family doc! Come here!

This is hard for me to write…read more A while back my mother got a mammogram at her doctor and she told my mother she should get a core biopsy. Her primary care had found calcifications in the mammogram and she wanted it checked out. My mother went and got the biopsy at the Women's Health Center in Lima. After a week, she was asked to come in for her test results. The test results were being given to her the day before Thanksgiving and since I was off work, i told her I would take her and then we could have brunch together. It was easy finding the health center as it is in the same medical center as my dermatologist. We went inside and she checked in. We sat in the waiting room for about five minutes before we were called in and were taken to a room which looked like an office. I started to get worried because, this didn't feel normal to me. Two women then walked in and introduced themselves to me. One was the doctor who performed the biopsy, the other was a social worker.... and the doctor informed us my mom has breast cancer. I literally felt the room spin on me. I must have obviously reeled or showed something because they wanted to make sure i was ok. I wasn't but i tried to compose myself. The doctor told us about what was found, and the plan. They had a team of doctors... a surgeon, a oncologist, a radiological oncologist who would be working with her along with the social worker. The social worker would be there for my mom thru things and we were given the information on what we needed to do. They also said the surgeon would come to the womens health center the next week to check her over. I am thankful and appreciative that the Women's health center found my mom's cancer so we can do something about it. I am also happy so many of the services are there and will be there like the social worker and the radiological oncologist. At the center i noticed that there is also a wig center located inside that my mother may end up having to use. Like i said, this was difficult to experience and write about. All i can say is this... if you are a woman, get routine mammograms. Get checked out!

Earlier this year... i started to have some pain in the back part of my right foot and it quickly…read moregot to the point that i couldn't walk and the pain was unbearable. I remember exclaiming to myself one morning when i woke up unable to walk due to the pain.... Oh no! Not this blank again! See, i knew the pain was coming from my achilles tendon. For context, a few years ago i had the same problem on my left. It was a huge heel/bone spur and it tore my achilles. I had to have surgery both to remove the spur and repair the tendon... and then almost a year of physical therapy. I was very worried. My brother goes to Dr.Haycock for a different issue and told me to call his office. I called and when i told them i was in a lot of pain, they actually squeezed me into their lunch hour. Omg! So kind! Front office staff, doctor and everyone was super conscientious to do that! I got x-rays done... and i was right it was a heel spur right around the area i have my achilles. I told my doctor of what happened before and i expressed to him my worry about having that kind or surgery again. He alleviated my fears somewhat saying we caught this somewhat early and their were treatment options to try before taking that route. So started several months of seeing the doc, taking meds for the swelling and pain. Thankfully, in the end i did not need surgery. Very thankful for all the help from Dr. Haycock and his amazing staff.

My mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer the day before Thanksgiving last year. It was an incredible…read moreshock to her, to me and the the rest of our family and started an ordeal we are still going thru today. The first stop after several more tests was surgery and this was performed by Dr. Jeremy Heffner of Midwest Surgical Specialists at Lima Memorial Hospital. Originally the doctors believed that my mom had two lumps one which was stage 0 (pre cancer) and one stage 1 (early cancer). The plan was to excise the cancer and then perhaps have her do radiation treatments after with a radiation oncologist. They still prepared another oncologist who is an expert on chemotherapy in case it was needed. On December 14th the operation happened... a few hours later I am told by Dr. Jeremy that the cancer was more serious and that it may have spread into her lymph nodes. He removed several of them also that looked cancerous and had them sent to be tested. You can imagine this was terrible news to receive and I will admit I got very emotional. December 27th then came for the follow up with Dr. Heffner did reveal that the cancer was indeed more serious and would need for her to go to an oncologist for chemo. We were then transferred to the care of Dr. Xiusheng Qin for chemo. They stay in contact as Dr. Qin performed more tests to see how far into her lymphatic system the cancer spread and they both decided further surgery was not needed. I am thankful for Dr. Heffner's efforts in surgically removing the cancer my mom had. Just the first phase in a long process to help my mom hopefully beat cancer.
