Beer, service, and ambiance are great! We always enjoy going to Van Henion. They have Trivia Night on Tuesdays. If you like Mexican food, Manzanita Grill food truck makes awesome food!

Had a great lunch visit at Van Henion. Cool vibes inside, friendly service and immaculate beer. We enjoyed a Pils and a Session IPA, both were fresh and crispy. Burger and Torta from Manzanita Grill were tasty and satisfying. Onion rings were behemoth. Really enjoyed the down to earth, chill vibe... can't stress enough.

    Van Henion's amazing Helles Lager!

Once again the Bend, Oregon area continues with it's superb brewery community and good, quality beers. Van Henion seems to be a newer brewery that has arrived to the city (or at least to me it is going off of my last visit). Steve and I had the fabulous Helles Lager which was so good! As time has gone on we have steadily become lager heads or "light beer heads" as they go down smooth and the crushable quality is appreciated. This Helles Lager we were very impressed by and I gave a high score on Untappd for this beer so in turn I give a high score on Yelp. With this lager flavors are sweet, malty, crisp, clean and biscuity flavors. All very typical highlights of a Helles but it is undeniable that the balance is masterful in handling it's flavor highlights. Truly a fantastic Helles Lager!

Van Henion Brewing, a newcomer to the Central Oregon beer scene, has made a bit of a splash with their beer. I like most of what I've had out of in cans bought at Newport Market. But this is a review of their tasting room, located in the Empire District. - It's small, too small I'd say given I'm still worried about hanging out in enclosed spaces with people. A four-seat bar, a couple of high-top tables, two low-tops and one two-top (where I sat). Mobility-challenged folks might have trouble here as well (although the space appears to be ADA compliant). They previously had a big tent set up but it wasn't there when I visited. - Beer is offered in 12oz, 16oz and flights. I like the 12/16 option and the prices are reasonable ($4/$6). - Food is available from a single truck in the parking lot. That Guy's Bistro, currently (a separate Yelp review but I note it isn't particularly vegetarian friendly). - Nice low volume music, which happened to be aligned with my personal tastes. This is not a loud place in general - you can actually converse with your table-mates. - Because it's cozy, some of the tables (and the bar) are next to the front door. Not ideal in winter. - Service is Bend friendly and efficient. Because of the small space, one person easily handles the job. All-in-all, four-star beer; three-star space.

We had such a great experience! Customer service, interior ambience, and beers were terrific. We're looking forward to becoming regulars.

Great small brewery with tasting room and food truck. Trivia on Wednesdays. Outdoor seating.

    Finally a darker beer!

Only thing keeping me from giving a 5 star review is the lack of darker beers. Most of the beers are very light so I would love a Dunkel or Doppelbock and an Oktoberfest in the fall. Really like the owners and staff. Very intimate tasting room (tiny) but saw where they just put up a tent in the parking lot that should help. Also a food cart is now on premises.

They've been making a name for themselves in the region with quality wild fermented beers. These may not be the types enjoyed by all, but some lean more into traditional flavors than truly wild and funky sours. This place is beautiful. They have an artistry in the decor, labels, and artwork that feels like wild nature. It's so cozy inside with bar on entry, plus tables, and cozy living room type seating area in the middle. Their barrels and brewery are to the back. They also have outdoor seating and food trucks. You order from the bar. There was a special event going on during our visit and the single bartender seemed overwhelmed but still tried to keep the line moving. Everyone seemed happy regardless. They don't do flights per se but you can do short pours if you're unsure what you'd like to try. I loved the fireplace too. They have lots of fan selections and great merchandise featuring their unique style, all next to the front door. Restrooms are to the left. If you're a fan of beer, and atypical styles especially, this is a must visit in Bend.

I have had Funky Fauna before when they were in Sister, Oregon. This brewery has since moved to…read moreBend which is probably a wise move to do as the city is a brewery mecca for the area and would potentially get a lot more foot traffic than when they were in Sisters. Upon entering I was instantly taken with the taproom as they indeed have that "Funky Fauna" thing going on. In addition to that they had Halloween decorations up which definitely enhanced the decor experience. What is particularly thrilling with the beer menu here is that they have a lot of higher end Saison style ales. There aren't a lot of breweries that get quite this extensive with this type of beverage so I was super excited to taste a few. Nights In White Fur was one Saison that I had and it was so very good! This particular ale had the flavor profile of pine, apricot and some lemon which gave the beer a puckering sour feature in a very pleasant way. It was an enjoyable beer for sure. Another beer that was just as good and also another Saison was the Quiet Tides. This ale had in the flavor profile berries, pine, a sour feature and a clean finish. This is a very smooth beer which was a nice feature while enjoying it as well. There were plenty of other Saisons to try but I stopped with those two but I could easily return to try out more. Steve and I feel that we can easily make Funky Fauna a required stop each time we visit Bend as we enjoyed the beer that much and really got into the vibe and atmosphere. The beertender was a nice guy too and was helpful and informative.

So on our last trip to Bend we finally made it here to the their taproom and it didn't disappoint at all. It was a great stop! We got a taster set of a variety of different beers that they had on tap and they were all quite good. Many of them have a wild ale aspect to them which I can appreciate at you don't come across this beer too much on a routine basis. The taproom is cool and I love all of their art specifically where fermentation liquids spilled onto a sheet or a cloth making various designs and hues during the brewing making process of their beers. Other excellent beers that we have had from this brewery are the Samalie which is a Wild Ale. This one I rated very highly on Untappd because it was so amazing! Things to look for in the flavor profile are sourness, tartness, fruitiness, a natural sweetness and a dry finish. Really an excellent beer! Moving on from that we had the great Ping Pong Table Beer. This was another beer I rated quite highly and enjoyed immensely. This beer is light bodies, smooth and effervescent with the flavor of elderflower at work. Another excellent beer! Definitely great beer experiences with this brewery and definitely recommend it to the more adventurous beer drinking folks. There are plenty of breweries to try out in Bend and if you are looking for something on the more unusual side The Ale Apothecary is a great place for such a thing!
