Located in Hollywood and Little Armenia. Tucked in the corner. Parking in the front. The owner said he has been there over 30 years. He wasn't very friendly. Very short and didn't seem to want to answer questions. Open late hours. However, the baklava was really good! The pieces are a great size too! The pricing was really good too! Locals shop here so that helps you know it's good!

I mainly come here for their meringue and their cheese rolls. They have plain cheese rolls and flavored, my faves are the pineapple ones. I took some to a few gatherings I went during the holidays and people loved them! This is an Armenian style bakery and you can find so much sweets and goodies. Perfect stuff for gifts and pot lucks. I like this location even when there's always sketchy behavior around. I never had an issue outside but I have seen it from afar so be aware at all times. They have Armenian cake by order and I will try to get one for my upcoming birthday as everyone should try that cake. It's pretty good and sweet, such a treat! Plenty of parking in this plaza next to Ocha restaurant on Sunset & Serrano Ave. Every worker is nice and always explain their stuff if you're not familiar with them.

While waiting to do the escape room, we stumbled on this amazing bakery. My family and I decided to stop by and explore the pastries. Wow! What a pleasant sight! Greeted by a round table adorn with several bouquets of beautiful white roses and good looking pastries. Gayane, the staff behind the counter, made our experience at the shop enjoyable. Hubby went crazy with the sweets and bought 2 boxes full of pastries to bring back home to San Diego. Glad we stopped by. Totally enjoyed the experience. Gayane, keep smiling! So happy we found this bakery ! The ladies are super helpful and nice but not only that , they can create magic and make any vision some to life. I ordered 2 days before the event and they accepted my order, and did an amazing job beyond my imagination ! I just sent some pictures as inspiration and gave her a few guidelines and less than 48 hours later I picked this amazingly beautiful cake that tastes delicious ! It was pink inside as the gender of the baby is a girl and they use vanilla cream and strawberries. It was fluffy, not too sweet and delicious ! And to top it off , the price is super reasonable ! Definitely my go to place now for cAkes !!!!

On November 22 I walked in to Van Bakery to buy A cake for a coworker's birthday. It was 8:30 in the morning. When I walked in the store there was a girl working there, she looked at me didn't even say hi. She continued what she was doing, after 10 minutes she finally decided to help me. I pick my cake and approach the counter to pay for it. I gave her my debit card, she took my debit card back of the counter. She puts the card in the credit card Machine and then told me that my card isn't working. I told her it's impossible. Then she says to me, with an attitude "Well look! nothings printing, your card didn't work". I asked her what does it say?. She said to me "remove the card", I told her, "well that means it worked, it went through". I was kind of shocked, that my card didn't work! Then she told me, "if it had gone through, receive should of came out" I told her, "maybe your printer doesn't work". I was about to switch my debit card with a credit card, she tells me, "fine let me try it again". And then she goes, "oh see now it's working". I was kind of shocked so I decided to log into my checking account to see what happen with the transaction, and at that moment I saw that there was two charges, I told her that you charge me twice, she got mad and called the owner! He comes out from the back, I told him, the girl charged me twice, I tried to show him my account, he didn't even looked at me, he didn't even look what she did, instead of apologizing he told me I can't do anything about it, The girl tells me, "let me write down our phone number, just call us back later". I got upset I said, "I know exactly where I am, and I know what your phone number is". And I walked out of the store. I called the bank and they did verify she charge me twice, so I filed a fraud claim. This would be the last time I ever walk into that store, they have no class whatsoever, and I think they should've apologize to me, and try to get my number to get back to me about the charge, but they did nothing. read more

Alla, her husband and all the staff we're great I would recommend this bakery over and over again and I see it as one of the best in Los Angeles if you look into a customized and cute cake that will fit your buffet, I recommend this bakery. They kept to the time and did all I wanted in detail. Her husband gave me extra case and taught me how to preserve the leftover, I am really really impressed with Van Bakery. I don't recommend to buy anything from this bakery, the worker literally lied to me, I asked her if the cake fresh twice, and I just came home and it's feels like the cake has been expired a few years ago. Hopefully we didn't get poison by it read more

Van Bakery made the cake for my wedding and it was absolutely beautiful and delicious. The detail, the structure, the taste, it was truly perfect. I'm glad we can rely on a bakery to create a cake we have in mind without worrying that it would fall apart. They truly went above and beyond my vision, and everyone was pleased. We have been going to Van Bakery for all of our pastries and cakes for over 25 years now, and they continue to amaze us and get creative with their cakes and pastries. Van Bakery made our wedding cake on Sep 7th 2018. We took Alla a picture of what we had in mind and she told us that she was going to make it better. My wife and I trusted her and she could've done a better job. The cake was amazing and it was the talk of the whole wedding. Not only did it look so beautiful it also taste so good. Was not at all impressed. Cake tasted cold & stale. And the woman working didn't speak enough English to describe the different items she was selling. I just picked randomly without even knowing what I was buying until I tasted it. Won't be back. The deserts look pretty but looks are deceiving. read more

This place was highly recommended to my by my Armenian lady friends. I love their puff pastries and baklava. Baklava is so juice and loaded with nuts, and the cream of puff pasties is heavenly tasty. The pastries literally melt in your mouth, and are far above the eclairs that you can sometimes find in frozen sections of the supermarkets. And the prices are very low. read more

Van Bakery made my engagement and wedding cake. Both which came out delicious and beautiful. My wedding cake was exactly what I always dreamed of what it would be. Van Bakery and Avant Garden worked together to come up with a beautiful 7ft tall wedding cake that was wonderful. I cannot say enough nice things about them. I have been ordering here for years and I thought Id finally write a review about this place. To start off, their customer service is great and they're are always working fast to get to every customer so as to keep anyone from waiting while they're in and out. The quality of their cakes are excellent and the taste is just devine. Everything is always fresh and u know they made it on the spot which is why im guessing they're always busy. I wouldn't recommend this Van Bakery. As I walked in the Bakery then as I'm looking the guy walks out pissed off and said " what you want, cuz I'm the one giving you this shit" this was happening while he's ripping the box up. I told him no thanks I'll come back. He said I don't care get the fuck out. As I was walking out I said no wonder your store is always empty. "I don't care he said" I know some Arminians are RUDE but this asshole takes the cake. I'll try another store. read more

Everything at Van Bakery is AMAZING! The cakes, pastries, cookies, baklava! I don't live in WeHo anymore, so I don't get to indulge as often as in the past, but it is always worth the side trip to Van (pronounced Vaun, not van). The sugar/butter cookies are heaven on earth! Light, fluffy morsels of sugary, light air. They melt in your mouth! The owner and employees have always been extremely nice to me, maybe a little shy. I take it that they prefer to speak Armenian, which I don't, so I keep it short and sweet, for some of my favorite sweets. Folks, you're not going to the spa or salon to be pampered for hours. You're hopping into Van for great goodies. So smile, grab your favorite desserts (be sure to check out the stuff in the frige) and move on! You'll be amazed at the goodness they are serving up at Van. read more

Very clean, nice, the workers are very polite and greet you everytime you go. I have tried many places but no place can top this. Everything is freshly made, and most important tastes great! Parking gets a little bit packed but overall you will find a place to park eventually :). I deffinantly recommend anyone that likes sweets atleast try this place out. I ordered a Chanel Purse cake from them and it came out awesome. You can say it was an exact replica of the bag, but made as a chocolate cake. I've never seen this much detail work on a cake. In addition, there customer service was great and attentive. I really recommend this bakery if you are looking for delicious and beautifully crafted cakes and pastries. read more

I love their pastries but this review is for the service. I walked out of there less then 10 minutes ago. The girl behind the counter didn't even greet me when I walked in. I had to call her to come over to give the pastry that I want. Her face was so mad like she was working fir free. I asked for a bag she said there is a fee I said ok. Apparently they don't charge .10 like rest if the retailers, their bags are $1.00. So I found that out after she handed the receipt. I said omg it's a dollar not .10 apparently it was my fault for not asking. The whole visit took less then 10 min but nit even one smile from the sales person. No thank you and no bye... read more

This place is gem. I needed a birthday cake last minute, and with only a days notice they created a masterpiece. My coworker loves tacos, and they created a taco themed cake. its amazing how much creativity went into this cake. It was extremely rich and delicious as well. The pastries are amazing, I've been coming here since I was a little girl. I just moved back to LA and I did my first visit to van bakery. Walking in it smelled very good. Pastries are the second best I've ever had. But for some reason I was pulled back this time by the behavior of the cashier. As me ans my husband were looking.from pastry to pastry, looking for perashki, when we asked for it she coldly told us they didn't sell it there,as we were ordering we felt uncontrollable and annoyed at her judging gaze. On the fact that I was married to a non-Armenian. I would appreciate better customer service but the food is amazing. read more

Very very disappointed. Their stuff is always old and dry.. Even i have asked the cashier to make sure its fresh, she said - oh yes of course everything is fresh.. Then when I took it home and tried, oh my, it tasted awful. And this is not the first time.. a few times this happened.. imagine you go to someones home as a guest and the cookies/cake you take its not fresh? I will definitely not recommend Van to anyone. Another issue they have is the customer service, when you enter the store sometimes the cashier is not in the front no one is at the front so you have to wait a few minutes for someone to come from the back. They do have a pretty bad attitude. read more

I ordered my cake here for a birthday party and they delivered with the exact minor details I had asked for, they even gave me a firework candle stick for free. The cake was absolutely delicious!! Tofu Cloud Croissant Toast -cream on top was pretty salted, to help balance the caramelized sugar that helps press the croissant into a toast. Overall, it wasn't wasn't bad but wasn't good and slightly too salted. Passionfruit Croiffin- texture of the croissant/muffin was great! Buttery, flaky and light. Passionfruit cream filling wasn't too sweet. I loved the tart passionfruit seeds. But you might want to scoop some out if you don't enjoy too much sourness. Elderflower Rhubarb Danish - way too crunchy, would prefer it to be crispy instead of a crunch. Filling was good, not too sweet. Black Sesame Parisian Flan -if you love black sesame, this would be right up your alley. Perfect sweet treat to bring to any auntie's home! Blueberry Tea Scone -not too dense. Surprisingly not too sweet even with the demerara sugar coating. It wasn't really crunchy but more sticky and caramelized from sitting.

I told her I literally gave you a quarter right now, and she questioned it before eventually giving me the correct change. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a mistake. I understand times are hard, but charging more for products that clearly had corners cut doesn't sit right with me. It just comes across like there's no integrity. I had a very frustrating experience at this business. The owners blocked my car in for simply parking in front of their store--even though the lot was otherwise empty and there were no signs indicating reserved parking or any restrictions. When I asked them to move their vehicle, they were rude and confrontational, even threatening to tow my car. For the record, you cannot legally tow someone's car without proper signage that references the specific California Vehicle Code, as required by law. It's shocking how little they seem to understand about basic property and parking rights. Extremely inconsiderate behavior and completely unprofessional. Avoid this place. read more

I always skip on their pastries, but I went to get a bread. The girl gave me the most driest bread, and she touched it too...I guess they were trying to get rid of their dry breads before closing. I have been getting our cakes for special occasions from Van Bakery, and there is not enough room to describe how stunning the work of art the cakes look like. Any thing I have bought from them has always tasted delicious. Their prices for fancy weddings, and birthday cakes is great. Recently I ordered a summer themed flamingo cake from them for my daughter, and it was breathtaking all my guest couldn't stop talking about the delicate details on it and the fresh cake.
