I shop here for clothes and that's about the only good part. I went in today and the cashier was mad at me for not taking the hangers off before getting to the desk. I thrift often, and usually don't have to do so, so i didn't know. She turned a very tiny sign around so i could see "please take your hangers off while waiting" very condescendingly. While she was checking me out, she was throwing the hangers off the clothes onto the desk and kept saying "all of this.. really" and i tried not to cry. She truly was being so mean to me, and i've never experienced anything like this at a thrift. She yelled the price at me and didn't say anything after that. read more

For years I overlooked this particular Value World which was my loss as it's absolutely loaded with stuff. Like you have to pull clothes completely off the rack to even get much of a good look at them. The men's long sleeve dress shirts have so many options all neatly organized by color, very pleasing to the OCD mind. At my current restaurant job we have to wear cream or khaki colored pants and white long sleeve dress shirts. I've bought white shirts from this VW twice. This last visit I tried to find pants but there were so many pairs in that color and so many not my size I eventually got fatigued and gave up. I have enough to get by for now and I'm not going to hold it against them. I used to not even try to find pants at thrift stores as I was so skinny they never seemed to have my size. I've put on a few pounds now but it's still not easy. They had enough options here and though they didn't seem to be organized by size I can't blame em. A lot of clothes look to move through this place. You might catch some funky odor here and though in 2023 thrift stores aren't the value they once were it still beats buying stuff new. The outside has that classic Value World look and the employees look like they know all about the thrifting game even if they sometimes also have that weary of working customer service look. At any rate they look cool and are probably hoarding some good shit behind the scenes. I know I'd be. This last trip here I stopped to look for CDs but then remembered my Jeep CD player is broken. I also can't be loading up on clothes as I'm broke and gotta move soon. This thrift store is the type of place that makes me wanna reactivate my dormant thrifting gene though. This is by far my favorite thrift store! The employees are very friendly and helpful and make the store a nice place to shop! Clothing is rotated very frequently, and the store is kept quite organized. Above all, my very favorite part of this establishment is the vintage clothing rack. The manager that sorts the clothing for the rack is very knowledgeable about vintage styles and brands that are quickly coming back to life in today's fashion. I have personally added a considerable amount of vintage clothing to my wardrobe since this rack was recently added to the store. read more

LOADS of clothing, more women's than all else but overall very large assortment for all. This store is around 95% soft goods though..... 5% brick-a-brack which is very unorganized. Not a ton of stuff across the board. I could have spent hours here but not too great of pricing as far as thrifting goes. I have such a love/hate relationship with this thrift store. Although I have found some gems in the rough, it is practically not even worth visiting without a coupon. From my photos, you can see their overpriced sweaters ranging from $14-16 for one item. To make matters worse, when there isn't a coupon out, this store is a complete DISASTER. The racks are so packed you can't even look at the tags. The back area, where the t-shirts/long sleeve shirts are kept, is basically a trash isle for bikes and other hard goods that completely clutter the back isle. Don't be surprised to find unattended kids running around all over the store, people walking around the store on speakerphone obnoxiously, and crying babies. The three things you absolutely need for a great trip are low expectations, headphones, and a 50% off coupon. read more

You know about muscle memory? Have you heard that birds know how and where to migrate because of magnetic tissue in their brains? Well, I seem to have something similar to a combination of those two things when it comes to thrift stores. I'll just be driving along, minding my own business, when suddenly, it will hit me that "There is a thrift store somewhere near here. I have been there before." All of a sudden, my hands start turning the steering wheel and before I know it, I'm opening to door leading me to some florescent-lighted bargain-hunting goodness. This is apparently what happened to me the other day. I was driving on 12 Mile and had a sudden inkling that were I to go south, I would be near a thrift store. Sure enough, I drove a little south, then a little west, and I saw a familiar looking parking lot. I hadn't been to this particular Value World in probably 8+ years, but somehow... I remembered right where it was. I was so glad that my weird thrift-radar led me here, though. I had some fantastic finds, which set the tone for a good-luck weekend when I stopped in a few other places to search for treasure. The most fortunate thing at this particular location was that they had just gotten in someone's owl collection in the housewares department. I've been collecting owls since I was about 6 years old, so this was a major win! Sure, there were some owls that weren't my style (I'm picky), but there were a handful that were superb! The housewares section overall had a lot of interesting knicknacks, including a gray ceramic stallion statue that I couldn't resist. Everything seemed fairly clean and well-organized for a Value World. There are certain resale shops I used to put on the "find work clothes here" list back when I had an office job. This shop would go on the list. Lots of newer items and recognizable brands. There's not the greatest show selection, but it's pretty good. A lot of the shoes seem on the newer side, and I scored a pair of Saucony "Jazz" shoes (my favorite workout/walking shoes) that appear to have never been worn. Don't worry - I sprayed them with plenty of Lysol just in case! There was a pretty entertaining "oldies" section (usually my favorite feature of a VW), with a lot of interesting duds. Most of the stuff was too kitch-y for me, but there was a yellow 70s dress with mini-flowers that I simply couldn't resist. Next time I'm near by, I'll be hitting up this Value World, for sure. Spent 2 hours picking out clothes, racked up a huge amount of outfits only to be told they don't have a fitting room. "There's a mirror over in the corner, that areas kinda private you can try them on over your dress"...really? Then as I tried to do that, they went over the loud speaker and said 20 minutes until close. Then turned out the lights. 20 Minutes before close- lights out! As I'm trying stuff on over my clothes, embarrassingly IN FULL VIEW OF CUSTOMERS cause I'm not gonna buy stuff if Idk how it fits. Came here looking for one simple shirt but up feeling unsatisfied and singled-out. We ended up being in a ridiculously long line. The line got longer and longer with only one register open. The employees requested backup and an employee came to assist only by bagging clothing. We stood in this line for about 15 minutes before they finally opened another register. The women in front of us in line went to the left register. We figured that the line would breakaway (like any other line with two registers in most businesses) for the next person but once the gentleman ahead of us finished cashing out, we approached the counter and the woman rejected us. She claimed that we should not have moved to the next register and she would not cash us out. The woman who was originally ahead of us refused to come to the entire other right side of the counter. I verbally stated that it would be more than okay if the woman went ahead, she was next. The woman at our registers gives the two separate women who were behind us permission to cut in front of us. We were next and waited up to 25 minutes to receive a checkout for one singular item and we were still inconvenienced when it was our turn to check out. There was no reason why the woman should have denied our checkout. Why would this employee go as far as to make us wait for the people who were physically behind us in line. These people waited in line for less time then us but they get to cut in front of us? I have never felt so disrespected and discriminated against for doing absolutely nothing wrong. We deserved to be treated equally and fairly just like any other paying customer. I spoke up to the employee and was ignored. Apparently they let anyone skip ahead in line no matter how long you have been waiting. This was a terribly bad experience and it is clear that these employees do not know how to run a store efficiently and effectively. read more

Hello there, I have to agree with Mariah C. This is a "great finds" store. This location also has the best jackets and coats. They are usually pricey unless it's on sale based on the color of the day. I bought three blouses and a pair of shoes for $20. Of course they were all must haves, but I usually leave with a large bag of items for $20 from Sunshine Thrift Store. I am also used to two or more colors being on sale as opposed to one color. I have to say this store reminded me why I stopped going to Value World in the first place. The only thing that kept me going to these store initially was the 50% coupons, which diminished to 30%, now... nothing! So Value World and I have a luv/hate relationship. Luv the great finds in this location. Hate the high prices and horrible customer service! Oh and I am looking for more thrift stores, so if anyone knows of any please let me know. When you do a search for Value World, these places pop up everywhere in the metro Detroit area... so I guess I didn't find anything new. Shucks. I was pleasantly surprised when I stopped in and found quite a few decent shirts, good lookin' jeans, and a whole mess of other stuff that'll interest those looking to save more than a few dollars on some of the essentials. I will warn y'all - the parking lot seems a little tight especially when there's a lot of people there. Be careful cruising around in their lot because you don't want to smack someone's car or, worse yet, a person. Long story short - I've lost a lot of weight and shopping at the Big and Tall stores is no longer for me... but I'm still in the process of losing more weight, so I don't want to invest a ton in my wardrobe. Unfortunately I probably won't get selected for 'What Not to Wear' on TLC (unless one of you cats pretends to be my friend and nominates me... please?), so I've got to buy my own clothes. Even then though... $5,000 in this place could get you a whole lot! The items are decently organized by type, but nothing to warn you about sizes. Medium things are chilling right next to XXL things and just on the other side of that will be something in a size Small. It can be a little disappointing when you spot something you like only to find out that it's too big/small. Prices are ranging usually from $2 to $6 for the nicer shirts whereas the pants/jeans look like they start around $5 and go up to around $10. If you're shopping for a suit... forget this place unless you're specifically looking for outdated stuff. That's a no-go at this place. Today I walked out with three nice shirts and a good pair of jeans for $18.87. There was plenty of other stuff I would have taken with me, but in these tough times I'm trying to ball on a budget. Good selection of clothing and housewares, but be prepared to dig! It's not laid out nicely for you! I ended up finding: old fashioned 1970's cookie jar - $3 Mikasa candy dish, new in box - $3 interesting shaped serving dish, brand new - $2 strawberry planter pot - $2 The back wall may look scary, but if you look there's a lot of good stuff to be found! I didnt' feel like checking out the clothing this time, but have in the past and found a few good things here or there (again, after digging). It's like a treasure hunt. Apparently they also pass out coupons on occasion. (everyone else had one except us.... boooo) The only downer is the small parking lot. This place is gross. And I don't just mean that smell of used stuff that so many, okay EVERY Salvation Army/thrift store/retiree's basement has. There is just no selection, no pizazz, no gems to be found. Lack of donations? Could be. Overall there's nothing worth looking at, it's all pretty disgusting. I've been a regular customer of this Value World for a few years now. I cannot turn my back on them because I do have a handful of really excellent finds from this location, but it is one of the more underwhelming second-hand shops out there. To sum it up, (if you're into the whole brevity thing) picked over. There are items that have been sitting on the shelves forever, and every time it seems those "old" items are taking up more and more room. I don't see much replenishment of the inventory. This place is just ok, but it really doesn't set itself apart or offer anything that would make someone go out of their way to shop there. read more

i really like this place. i go every week and never turn up empty-handed, i'll tell you that much. if it helps- i am a music merchandise collector. i go here for the tshirts. it's almost unbelievable, the tshirts here. for some reason, the tshirt and the hat section in the men's area of this store is always a frenzy. and i'm not just saying it's a bunch of guys looking for shirts because they need shirts. but there are people who come back every week, just like i do, rifling through the tshirts for gold or something. and i admit it. i do it too. it's like a freakin' competition. you won't believe it. i'm there to find vintage and relevant band shirts for myself. like hell i would buy a new band tee from hot topic or something so i come here. and i almost ALWAYS find something amazing. but really, i do have to compete with people for the pickings. i have to get there at the right time and i have to even fight my way through to the shirts or beeline for the black shirt section because i know the best things are in there. i've had some great shirts get away from me. i get really interesting hats and caps here too but it, too, is a competition. some interesting shirts i have found here are lots of metallica shirts, a lot of those popular american trucker style animal shirts (bears, eagles, deer, tigers, wolves), vintage AUTHENTIC product shirts (not reprints) like real orange crush shirts, a red hot chili peppers tour shirt, jerseys, michigan sportswear, baseball clothing, etc. i can't seem to go there and not find something. i recently found a pair of doc martens for my boyfriend. authentic in his size for $13. a steal considering what those cost new and that no matter how old they are, doc martens have been the same style since the beginning of time. this place is exciting and gives me a rush whenever i go because you never know what you'll find. i go once a week and there is ALWAYS new shirts waiting for me. for 80 cents to $1.20 also, men's cardigans which are very stylish and warm are $1. can't beat that. go to urban outfitters. same thing for $54.00 lastly. as a merch collector i am aware of all kinds of shirts. i have been able to resell a lot of the things i have found at this very value world store for 5 to 10x the price i bought it for. 80 cent shirts for $18 is totally possible and i do it all the time. if you're looking for an easy way to make some money haha. it's definitely something to do. selling the shirts i find for profit is almost a business on its own. read more

Holy Moses! What a mess! I've seen cleaner garage sales! A total disaster. And the products? Come on now. I've seen donations at other stores. Why are these amoung the worst? Who is choosing the foods that get priced here? I didn't find one thing, and no, I'm not picky. I've purchased items from thrift stores plenty of times, but this place is horrible. The staff is frumpy and unkempt, in major need of a makeover. They looked sad, and lost. Nobody said hello to me. The manager looked great, but she didn't fit in with the junky astompshere. This place is need of a major change. Parking is not great, never is. Lot has a lot of potholes, needs to be redone. Please invest some money into this store and hire people who CARE. read more

I go there often! It's a little smaller than the other one in Eastpointe, (which is my favorite, because it's twice as big!) but it has great stuff, at good prices, and I usually spend hours looking around. You can find REALLY GOOD items if you just take your time to LOOK! You can't just skim through a "couple" of racks, and say, "I couldn't find anything..". You REALLY have to go through EVERYTHING, to find the good deals. I usually spend 2-4 hours at a time, there. I get all of my dresses first, then pants and skirts, then I go to find tops to match the bottoms, and I'm usually very pleased with everything I get. They usually have good shoes, (although they can be a bit on the pricey side). The racks are pretty close together, so it's sometimes difficult to get through them, and people often act like they own the whole isle sometimes, but that isn't the STORE'S fault, lol!! I have shopped at value world for years. I have 3 children and value world has helped us clothe them. But, I have to wonder if I'm doing right by them. They now hate to go clothes shopping, if it's resale. They equate resale with a grimy feeling. I continued to speak positively about Value World despite the fact we can't try on clothes, they staple clothes - which has put holes in very nice pieces of clothing - ruining them. But last night was the last straw! They started to announce the store closing for a half hour before it closed. Then, one female employee- Dawn- started telling customers at 8:50 that if they didn't get in line that they would not be checked out. She was very rude and seemed to be in a hurry to leave work( I wonder why?) I spoke with her, and she said "corporate" requires them to make sure customers were out soon after nine. We got in line(before 9:00, which is closing time ) and they turned off almost all the lights! Then, at 9:07 Dawn left the building! There was one cashier to handle 14 people in line! The cashier was very nice and I asked about Dawn. She says that she's like that, they just put up with it. Unfortunately, "corporate" office must not want to hear about these things. The phone number only has automation with times and locations. The website has no way to contact anyone for any feed back. Why should I teach my girls that it's alright to assist a company that has no consideration for customers, or employees for that matter? It reminds me of buying from China. Why should I continue to ignore bad business? They are no doubt making money on what we donate to them. Why aren't they interested in quality as well as "value"? read more
