It's well organized place. They have the men's clothing in the center, towards the back of the store. I was looking for a certain color jacket and style for my husband. He needed a jacket for a work theme event for a day. It seem pointless to go to a store and buy something new. I wasn't able to find anything that looked modern enough or for the season I was looking for. I saw a lot of jackets that were part of a suit. Some could be used as a sport coat, but weren't exactly the style I was looking for. Additionally it was hard to determine if the size it would be close enough. Many were sized as small, medium or large or extra large. I was looking for actual measurements, which I wasn't able to see money listed. I think it would be an ideal place to buy infant clothing, since babies grow out of their clothing by the weeks. read more

We were shopping in Royal Oak, and a sales clerk told hs to stop in here for great steals. Honestly, it was a bit difficult navigating through the store. I was also a bit shocked at some of the prices. They wanted $12 for a "name brand" shirt that was way out of style. You could tell this shirt has not been sold in stores for years, and the color was fading even. There was a lot of out of style clothing. We did see a few nice shirts here and there, but there was tons of racks with nothing good. They had cute boutique and vintage racks. Some of the boutique racks did not make sense to me. I was not sure why they had some very old clothing items on those racks and were overpriced just because of the name. I can see myself possibly buying some vintage items, but I will not overpay. Even though there was some issues, my sister was still able to find two dresses. We got 50% off a dress that was $14 because it was a name brand. She also got 50% off another dress. They had 25% off for students and teachers which is awesome. They do have a lot of sales, so some prices may make sense. I just did not like seeing old items overpriced. It may be worth a stop for those looking for older styles. read more

I love thrifting and finding furniture, frames and such to repurpose so I was excited to stumble upon Encore. Unfortunately, I didn't find many items I could work with and what I did come across I felt the prices were much higher than what I could find elsewhere. For example, a framed piece of art/photography of a certain size that I would purchase at the Salvation Army would cost about $5 but at Encore it was between $10-20 . I didn't shop in the clothes or shoes but I did notice some very nice fur and leather coats and tons of adorable baby clothes! I did find a very nice blow dryer that was in the box and priced at $10... then came across a 15 year old dryer that was priced at $9. I don't understand that pricing methodology. Anyway... to my surprise I got the boxed blow dryer for $5.30 at the register because of a store discount! I love surprise deals!!! read more

Very overpriced. They are not like the other thrift shops who are here to help the community, they are instead trying to make a profit. I had previously donated items here but after going in the store and seeing the prices they are asking for things, I will find another place to donate or give away on Facebook. Their is a difference between pricing things to keep a business running and greed, and this place is running on greed. Very disappointing indeed. read more

I have been donating almost exclusively at this thrift shop for years. However, I noticed whenever I came to donate and shopped the store I would see my items at inflated prices. Honestly, I could shop more affordably at TJMaxx, Marshall's, or Burlington for something new. On one occasion I came in and was sold a knockoff Dooney and Bourke purse. The sales representative was so rude. He wanted me to leave the purse and my receipt with him and have someone allegedly call me. Another customer overheard me arguing over how unacceptable that was and intervened. I finally got my money. back but not after being publically spoken down to. On another occasion, I went in and saw some figures from an artist I was similar with. I was so excited at the possibility of purchasing one of the little figures but they were priced at $300! and $400. The items were donated for free, the thrift shop is run by volunteers and they were still charging outrageous prices. I will not donate here anymore. It's a lovely store and I have found some deals from time to time but in my opinion, the prices are way too high in general for a Thrift shop. read more

This is the best thrift store I've ever shopped at and I'm a lifelong thrift store shopper. They offer many brand name, high quality clothing labels and several household goods from kitchenware to furniture to art. I appreciate the time they take to sort sizes and colors in each department. You can find quality leather jackets and/or lovely dresses for all occasions there as well. They even have some vintage clothing which is great! The store is clean and the volunteers that work there are friendly. I recommend shopping here. :) read more

At one time this was a great place to shop but know they are way too expensive for a resale shop. 80% of what is sold now is called couture and never goes on sale. Better prices at antique stores and every other retail shop in the area. Very disappointed and will not be shopping there anymore . read more

I really wanted to get this review done quickly before I forget about my experience. This place is fantastic. I'm not sure why anyone would complain about it other than having an isolated incident because as far as resale stores go, it was great. All the proceeds for directly to one of the local churches. I think a lot of the people that were working there were doing it on a volunteer basis. They were playing praise music and everyone was quite pleasant. I was really REALLY pleased that clothing items were sorted by size and some by color. It made shopping there extremely easy. Pants were about $2 per pair, shirts ranged from $2 to about $6. You could buy a lot of stuff on a budget here. Shoes were between $4 and $8. Really NICE shoes. They had furniture, housewares, toys, clothing, books, and collectibles. I bought about a dozen nice books for a dollar or less each, several inexpensive toys for the kids, a pair of pants, a blouse, and a piece of brick-a-brac. There were some more expensive items behind the counter but I guess if you can afford a fur coat then the price shouldn't shock you. I'm always surprised at someone who wants something so cheap for even less because it was donated. I'm always less surprised when someone uses Yelp as a tool to try to hurt local businesses instead of giving honest reviews. It was donated to support a cause. Getting something for your support is just a bonus! Nice resale shop, good people, great cause. read more

I like this store because it's organized and clutter free. They have many racks of clothes and separate them based on gender and size. I found a nice pair of Northface pants for $20 and they looked brand new. On Wednesdays they have a discount for anyone UNDER 65, I thought that was kind of neat....it's rare (if ever) that we youngsters get discounts :) read more

You know the stigma that Thrift stores have... that they're gonna smell weird, be full of ugly pilled sweaters and styles you wore when you were in elementary school? Well, this is the place where those predictions are fulfilled. It's huge but full of really bad clothes and furniture. Honestly, don't bother, unless you like to really hunt. Not recommended. Do you enjoy the preaching of a bible smashing preacher while you shop? Then you'll love this place. The prices are riduolous. They are over pricing what they "think" is collectible, but it's just not worth that much. Clothing selection wasn't that great, I found a few pieces I would have bought if they were less money. Staff was snoty, especially for a "Christian" store. Parking was fine. No bathrooms. I don't feel the need or desire to ever come back. Hint to the management- lower the prices and change the tunes. This was a large resale shop priced right. I didn't find much that wasn't heavily loved by its previous owner at the time I was there. I like to find NWT or lightly loved treasures. Im sure I'd have better luck if I made multiple trips. There's certainly a lot to look through. If you have the time to dig, hunting here is worth the stop. Good Luck! read more

I love Encore but the service I got this afternoon was not what I expected from the manager that was helping at the front, she was not appreciative, did not wish me a happy thanksgiving or even did not thank me for coming to support, to me this is not a good customer service, she even did not smile. I really love this store! They have a lot of different sections so it's fun to go and shop for a variety of items: women's clothing and accessories (they also have a designer boutique area), men's clothing, and they also have furniture and home goods. They always have certain sales, for examples the last time I went it was 50% off all home decor that week. They also have military, student, etc. discounts on different days (listed on the website). Their customer service has always been nice, they are friendly and packaged my items well (even the glass ones). I will continue to shop here! read more

I love Encore but the service I got this evening was very rude. I know that the store runs on volunteers but wow. I knew the store was closing in 10 minute I just wanted to run in and see what they had for long dresses! We walk in and the lady yells mam we are closing in 5 minutes. I look at my watch showing 6:50 and say okay I walk over and look at the dresses and walk back out and she follows me out to lock the door and does not even say have a nice night! I am unsure if I will ever comeback to this store because of this women. I have spend hundreds of dollars and love the deals but I really don't feel like being treated like I am inconvenience when I am spending money at a store. read more

Encore is amazing, the best resale shop I've ever experienced! Upon arrival, I was greeted kindly by the staff, mostly volunteers, and wonderful praise/worship music...Love it! The proceeds from all sales go to support Southfield Christian School. The clothes are very nice (new & used), three section to chose from - regular, boutique and couture. On my last shopping spree, I purchased a nearly-new Talbot's ladies shirt for $4 and a pair of ladies Merrell clogs for $8, which were in excellent condition. Every week there is a special sale. Each day there are special discounts, for example - on Mondays, senior citizens receive 25% off. Check out the website for details. The selection caters more to an older crowd than youngish thrifters like myself. This place has got some seriously shady business practices. I have shopped in this store a few times now and i can honestly say without a doubt that i for one, and my close circle of family and friends will never shop here again. I encourage you to do the same. For starters all the items in this store are donations, but that does not stop them from asking outrageous prices on a great many of the items that they sell. The word greed comes to mind, and that is putting it mildly. There was a sale on various items in the store, and toys being one of the sale categories, i asked to see an item in a display case that the price was hidden. This was one of the few items in this store that seemed reasonably priced, and because it was a "toy" i thought i was about to get a good deal on it, 50% off to be exact. The lady assisting me said "Oh no, this item is not on sale because it is collectible". "Collectible?", i asked, "It does not say anywhere on this package or the price sticker on the front of the box that this item is collectible and excluded from this sale?". "Well I'm about to fix that", she said. Then proceeded to pull out a price gun and added a sticker to the front of the box right beside the sale tag, before my very eyes i might add. I have shopped at many resale shops, and Encore, like many of them now, do research on line to find out how much they can get for their items using the World Wide Marketplace to gage the value of their donations. Although this is really not an effective way to properly gage the value of their items at all. But let's not get off track here, this is about shady business practices after all, and not the price gouging practices of today's resale shops. I was told by other people in the store that i should have asked to see a manager, but i was so offended by what i just experienced that i had already decided not to spend a dime of mine in Encore Upscale Resale. Somehow i thought to myself, that even if i would have gotten a manager involved, they would not have done the "right" thing, and given me the item at a discounted price to save a valuable customer from walking out the door. Congratulations Encore, bravo, your business is flourishing in harsh times that you do not care who you turn away at the door. Good luck, you will need it. read more
