the last time I was there ( admittedly this was the now closed Clawson location), they had great prices and a nice selection, especially shoes! service was a bit slow but there were only two employees in the store and one was taking care of consignment intake. I have both bought and sold at regeneration for years and am a big fan! Most items are price $30 and under when buying. They offer a wide variety including vintage & modern. Men's & womens. Shoes, hats, purses accessories, inclusive (Plus) size and even children's. I have scored some unique staples I get complimented on consistently. When selling call ahead for an appointment & bring 25 items or less. Pay close attention to what they are buying for that month (posted on their Instagram and in store on a chalkboard). They offer 30% of retail price in cash or 45% store credit. So no you will not get rich reselling clothing at regen but you can get some nice cash in hand or exchange some unworn pieces in your wardrobe for something new to you. They will also donate the items they don't buy if you'd like. It's like thrifting without having to sort through the items with stains/holes/pills etc. love the curated collection. Throughout college, thrift and resale stores were my bread and butter. And THIS place knows how to do it. They offer a large array of women's, men's, and children's clothing, shoes, and accessories. The quality of clothing is barely used--I walked out with Madewell shorts, an Ann Taylor knitted top, an RL belt, and an H&M sweater all for 18 DOLLARS! This is a great shop for more trendy garb. It's also a great and reasonably priced place to find key clothing items for the 80s, 90s or Halloween outfits too. My husband found his whole wardrobe for his I tend to often take many of my items I no longer wear here. As I try to purge items if I haven't worn any items after 2 years time. Usually won't be wearing them if I haven't after 2 seasons of each have passed. They do only take items for that season, they try to not have too much excess of clothing items. They make the process easy, you drop off the items and will generally appraise what items they will take and can sell. The amount of cash for the donations isn't high, but it's something and more than donating at a salvation or thrift store at least. It's quick, efficient and a no nonsense process. No tax slip since you get some dough back though. read more

This is the closest thing Michigan has to a Buffalo Exchange (skews young/hipster). Honestly it's one of my favorite thrift shops due to the fact that I rarely leave empty-handed. I don't love everything they carry (some of it is very worn), but I love that they make an effort not to be too basic. I've never seen Gap or Banana Republic here. I've bought a lot of unique vintage pieces. I've also found really fun pieces I wouldn't pay full price for. The employees seem nice, too. read more

Imagine that you saved so much money from going to resale shops that you could pay for an assistant to filter through racks and find the coolest wins for you. It would be like Magnificent Mile in Chicago except everything costs ten bucks. That is basically what Regeneration is -- filtered resale that doesn't jump up much in price compared to your typical thift. Maybe for some it is too filtered but I find their stock to be good quality, and fun, so I can't help but feel impressed. Staff is friendly but not overtly helpful from my experiences. Just typical dutiful assists and responses but I think that is all it takes. The main thing I love is that I have not left here empty-handed and I mean, if you knew me that is kind of a miracle. I don't really get swept up in the fact that I could spend twenty bucks and end up walking out with my arms full. I want quality clothing and brands with styles that suit me and my senses; not an easy task when you are on a resale binge but a fun one if it is your thing. I was able to get a really cute Chico's wrap for $7 and an awesome orange Banana Republic cashmere sweater for $13 the last time I stopped in. Since these were both items I would have paid full price for, cha-ching! My poor SO walked out empty handed though. He found the men's section to be quite a bit more restrictive. Where do I start? I suppose I should mention that I've only been in to purchase, not (yet?) to sell, but both Regeneration locations have a friendly and helpful staff, beautifully curated items, and reasonable prices. I was hesitant for the longest time to go in because I was afraid I couldn't afford vintage, and am embarrassed to admit I feared a stereotypically snooty staff, but was totally wrong. I came in looking for an item that had been posted on their Instagram page about a month or two ago, and thought I'd try my luck to see if it was still there. The owner (maybe?) and her associates asked me if I needed any help, and I told them what I was looking for, and all 3 salespeople stopped what they were doing to help me track down what I was after. They even looked it up on their phone because I couldn't get a data signal on mine. It turns out the item sold, but I was so blown away by the help! I've never seen that kind of assistance outside of, like, employee training videos, seriously. Total service--love it; thank you. Hope you stay around forever :) read more

I've been living in Ferndale for almost 8 months now and I FINALLY visited Regeneration - what the heck was I waiting for??? Honestly, I tend to steer clear of most vintage stores because I tend to walk the line between "large" and "plus" and most vintage clothing is "tiny" and "tinier." I was VERY pleasantly surprised to see that Regeneration has an excellent variety of sizes, and that the 1X-3X racks were just as well stocked as the S-M-L racks. Sizes aside, they have a very nice variety of tops, bottoms, accessories and shoes (lots and lots of shoes) for both men and women. The whole store is clean and bright, and the racks aren't over-stocked so you can actually get a good look at everything. So many really crazy and flashy vintage items around somehow seem to raise the hipness level of the regular old sweaters and pants too, don't you think? The prices are not as low as Goodwill, but the quality is higher so I'm quite okay with the prices. Many of the items I looked at it still had the original tags and had never been worn. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful, and I like that they have a little bit of local wearable art in there with the vintage jewelry. I'm a sucker for flea-market jewelry and now I'm going to have to build my entire wardrobe around this super cool chunky silver & turquoise owl necklace! And it was only $10 - go team! Their purses were really sweet too. If I hadn't just gotten an amazingly gorgeous purse from Naka, I would have cleaned out their inventory. This store is not for the weak of originality. A true treasure trove of your neighbors "junk", Regeneration, offers great pieces from several generations. Do you want to look like Cher from Clueless or the one rocking it out with Sonny? This is your place. They have amazing prices, products you may actually wants and sizes galore. Now you will not find a Chanel jacket here, but a hot Sears and Roebuck coat that needs your special touch is on the rack to the left. Just go and explore. Given the prices of clothes and the "wear and toss" culture many of us live in nowadays, I find myself drawn towards good secondhand clothing stores as a source for standbys in my wardrobe I do not want to pay full price for. This is especially true for office wear (black pants, dress shirts) as I fluctuate a fair bit between sizes as I am working out more regularly. That, and I cannot stomach the idea of paying $79 full price for a pair of pants from The Limited or J. Crew, no matter how pretty they may be. Discounts and coupons, loyalty programs, and eBay only go so far. Regeneration is one of a number of local secondhand and thrift shops thriving in the Royal Oak-Ferndale corridor. It is one of the closest to me, and situated nicely on Woodward just outside the main Ferndale drag, begged to be checked out. I've only passed them countless times, and flitting in and out is a breeze with street parking and their accommodating hours. Unlike the store in Clawson, this Regeneration simply feels fuller. The floor space is less, the clothing racks filled more, and the clientele closer together. For me, it works; it thrives like the community it is situated in, though I'm pretending that's Ferndale and not Pleasant Ridge on a technicality! Either way, the store has a good mix of male and female clothes, shoes and dressy stuff with casual. The rack of jeans and pants on the back wall is pretty impressive, and I spent a good amount of time trawling through. Designer denim shows up more in Clawson, though, at least as far as guy's stuff goes. I shouldn't be telling you this. The staff deserves five stars plus simply on its own. Employees are so damned cheerful and friendly in a non-aggressive way, happy to give their opinions, find something, or tell you how long that dress is likely to sit there if you are uncertain. Their honesty is refreshing and their good moods prove infectious. I like this store in part because Regeneration hires upbeat people who still have quirks and authenticity which mean something to the shopping environment. I've come out of Regeneration with a dazzling bargain on both occasions I've been (new Seven for All Mankind jeans, $20; a gorgeous Michael Kors skirt, next to new, for $13) and found an array of great pieces for very reasonable prices. They stock a lot of different styles, not all Baby Phat and Juicy-knock offs or tattered ugly t-shirts like some shops; there are hip outfits, vintage pieces, plus size and a spectrum in between. I find myself comfortable with the array, and confident I'll find something I am looking for. The budget goes a lot farther here, and they seem to take a lot in resale. Selection aside, Regeneration shines for the variety of pieces, the accessories case, and the broad range. Need a t-shirt? Some cute skirt? You'll likely find what fits the bill and a few pieces you didn't expect here; all of that makes them a great neighbour. read more

I don't think I have ever left empty handed. I do prefer this location over the one in Clawson even though it is smaller. I stop in frequently because you never know what you may find. I'm not shopping necessarily for "vintage" just cute clothes, scarves, purses that catch my eye. I have picked up work pieces as well as casual. I bought a sparkly tank for NYE for $6, I have purchased Lucky Brand jeans for $12.50, I am wearing an Express cardigan right now that I paid $8 for and my purse is a Liz Claiborne that I paid $19. I always get compliments on items that I have purchased from Regeneration. Why waste money on full price when you can buy 2nd hand. And when I am done with them I put them in a donation bin to keep the recycle of clothes going even further! read more

For what it is, this is a nice secondhand store. It's a lot less hit-and-miss as compared to something like Goodwill or Salvation Army given that the staff looks for specific items when stocking the store. You might come in one day and find some Banana Republic sweaters that aren't quite your style, but at least you won't have to sift through racks of "Bonna Family Reunion '89" t-shirts before you find something worthwhile. Also, they have a great selection of plus size clothes, for the larger ladies and gents among us. Another great thing about this is that it straddles the line between "resale shop" and "vintage," in that most clothing stores that call themselves "vintage" seem to cost more than shopping new. Most everything here is very reasonably priced, especially considering the high-end brands you can find. Personally, most of the clothing here isn't my style, but if you dig a moderately-upscale-retro-hipstery look, this place is your jam. They also have some deals - last time I went I found a Louis Vuitton bag for 12 bucks. Yes, it was real. The REAL winner here, though, is the jewelery. They've got a case of some pretty banging items to choose from, and they're all reasonably priced. Where else can you get seven pairs of beaded and wooden earrings for under 20 bucks? They even have some offerings from local artists, which is cool. They get extra points for accepting credit cards. For some reason, lots of secondhand shops don't bother to do so. read more

i couldn't believe the prices here! some of this stuff was so good. even the branded stuff seemed dirt cheap. the selection is large and varied and i'd be surprised if someone didn't find at least one thing to like here. i ended up with a skirt that was six dollars and in great condition. it didn't even have that old clothes smell used clothing stores sometimes have. i came here with my friends and they all found stuff they loved too. service is good- some of the employees seemed friendlier than others. either way, they were all still really helpful. it's a little far out from where the other resale shops are, but it's worth it. such a great place - don't miss it! read more

I am so grateful for this place. Losing weight can be expensive because you have to replace clothing on almost a monthly basis. I love knowing that they carry sizes XS to XXXL and everything from vintage to athletic wear. I frequent here monthly and it's saved me money and time and kept me motivated to lose 100 lbs . As far as secondhand clothing stores go, this one is a MUST. I always manage to find something interesting enough to add to the 'drobe. Regeneration sells a nice mixture of secondhand and vintage threads, though mostly secondhand. Zoftig women, take note: you will be able to find something that fits! The staff are cordial and helpful, the prices CANNOT be beat--one can score a pair of practically new black jeans for $5! The selection is ever-changing. That means the stuff moves. I went to the Clawson Regeneration last weekend and was thrilled with it, so I just had to visit the Pleasant Ridge location this weekend to check it out. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. I would say that the Pleasant Ridge location is more geared toward shoppers looking for vintage items, where the Clawson location is more geared toward up to date items. So, if you're more a vintage shopper, the Pleasant Ridge location will suit you wonderfully. I didn't like how the Pleasant Ridge location was so crowded. They have so much crammed in there that it's difficult to look at some of the racks. I actually left without any purchases. read more

Regeneration is a mix-match of modern and vintage second hand clothes. The have a variety of sizes from extra-small to plus-sizes. Like many stores of this variety there is a bigger woman's section than men's. They also have accessories and footwear, as well as outerwear. I heard they buy/swap clothes, but I have never done this so can't comment. They have a large changing room. I found the employees willing to wheel-and-deal on items, especially if it has been in the store for awhile. There is also a small sale section. The reason I am only giving Regeneration 3-stars is because I got a terrible week long rash from a skirt I bought there. Maybe this is my own fault. Once my friend got ringworm from wearing a thrift store skirt without washing it. That said, WASH or DRY CLEAN items before wearing. read more

Good selection, clean, bright, easy to browse, and prices that are pretty reasonable: I bought some great unworn high-end designer leopard print pumps for $15, a pair of zebra sandals for $8, (yes, I know I have an animal print addiction, I'm working on it), and the mandatory ironic t-shirt for $3. I've been a longtime customer of Regeneration since they'd opened. Just recently I'd taken items in to sell and I am highly disappointed with their service. Word has been going around on how they are offering you kibbles and bits for your items, even worse, on how they are clearly taking items and not even letting you know what they have taken (supposedly to sell) when their policy CLEARLY states they are happy to show you what they have selected and what the item would sell for. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE on my recent visit last week. I have never experienced this before with them and I'm not sure if they are overwhelmed because of the pandemic and people are clearing out their closets and bringing items in even more now or what, but they got me and took more than what they said they did and offered me very little funds when I know for sure one of the items were practically brand new that I had paid a good amount of money for. Usually, if they're in a good mood, they'll offer you to do a consignment. In which I'd like to add, IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING THAT IS OF HIGH QUALITY, I SUGGEST CONSIGNMENT otherwise you may get $2 for it when you might have paid $200.
