Several days prior to our visit and only a two days after making our reservation, we learned our Granddaughter, who is a Marine, would be flying into DFW for a short 2 day visit. When I told the staff we needed to cancel our last day with them and for what reason, I was told there would be no refund and a $25 fee added or we could bank the day and stay with them another day in the future. I explained we normally would not stay in the area and our Granddaughter's visit was a surprise. This did not make any difference. Of course we left a day early, but thought most other places we have camped in the past 40 plus years, would have understood.

I've been living at the HD ranch for over 2 plus years now. There were 6 rentals and soon there will be 12 total rentals. One rental is a cozy cabin. We've had some difficult weather and Covid, so there's not much this park can't handle. It's a wonderful small community of people here. Sheridan goes out of her way to make everyone feel at home. We stayed at the Lucky Horseshoe over the Fourth of July weekend with little notice. Stephanie, the…read moreproperty manager ensured that we would have a place to park for the long weekend and assured us it wasn't too late to make a reservation even though we did not reach out until the Tuesday Before. During our stay, the park hosted a cook out/BBQ in addition to a beautiful display of fireworks. What made Lucky Horseshoe stand out to us the most was no the location or amenities. It was the people. The residents were welcoming and while we had known several from other adventures, several took the time to introduce themselves and even bump elbows and tap shoes in greeting. The property manager, when not out on the property, was found three times in the patio she'd set up outside of her rig. She is as polite, friendly and approachable as the space she set up for herself. The park itself is carved out of a field with several young and mature cedar trees. The buildings are themed to the old west and their first two buildings have a draw to them that children will love. Other than the people, this park's best feature is the community garden which I missed taken pictures of. This is the first time I've seen something like this at an RV park and it's wonderful to see come into fruition. There is also a dog park which is great for our four legged friends. Some of the lot sizes are small and are definitely meant for smaller rigs. There are also many large and spacious sites that would well fit a full timer by not only providing a wonderful place to park, but also a generous space to set up outside living. As the park is carved out of a former field, you will want to spread diatomaceous earth on and around landing gear and jack stands, any place hoses or cables touch the ground and at the base of your stairs and wheels to ensure you don't get ants. This is definitely a community we found ourselves wanting to live in once our summer and fall travels have concluded. We even scoped out a few sites that we hope could be available in the future. The only draw back is that this park is currently cash/check only. As long as you are prepared for paper currency, you'll be all set.

The explanation from the owner was, "when it rains the rats come inside." That aside, the mattresses and bedding are horribly old and uncomfortable. How one of the reviews for this place(which is from four years ago) could possibly say that the bedding is lush and comfortable is INSANE. The a/c was also not on when we arrived so it took well over an hour for the cottage to become comfortable. I was also very afraid to use the jacuzzi tub as it was dirty with yes, more rat poop but the nozzles also looked dirty and who knows how old that tub really is so a bath was forgone. They don't send a confirmation email of your booking even though I was told twice I would receive one and beware of substantial additional charges that are not disclosed up front. Our stay ended up costing over $100 more than expected because of those extra fees. The cost of staying here is an absolute joke for the accommodations which are dirty and highly uncomfortable. Another guest who stayed when we did reported a similar experience. I don't know how they are staying in business because anyone that has the experience we did will certainly never come back and I hope that the people who read this find any other housing option, this place is not worth your money.
