Never thought I would review a dump, but I was actually really impressed! Since today is a holiday (Memorial Day), my husband and I weren't sure if the landfill we normally would go to was open and no one answered the phone. I found Valley Services on Yelp, they answered the phone and said they were open. All the employees were friendly, the driveway was clean (hate getting a nail in a tire) and the price seemed reasonable! We'll definitely return with our next load from our remodeling project. P.S. This was my first time using Valley Services and I was extremely impressed. It was also my first time attaching a trailer to my SUV so I was nervous. When I arrived the attendant saw me struggling to back up the trailer. He offered to back it up for me and was so courteous and understanding. I returned with the second load and tue same attendant saw me and guided me while I was backing my trailer and congratulated me on successfully doing it on my own. The staff here are so friendly. I am a homeowner, that needed to dispose of almost 2 tons of concrete fragments for a safety fix required by San Jose. Valley Services was a great find! They are open 7 days a week, letting me dispose on a weekend. They charge $152/ton for construction and debris disposal ($82/1000 pounds minimum charge for any accepted load). This is cheaper than other facilities. They offer a frequent customer discount of $70 when you dispose 10 loads. Metal disposal is free (but no payout for metal value). They are even hospitable. There is a chest of cold bottled water offered for free. The staff said there is a barbeque on Fridays, but I have not tried that. read more

This place makes it very easy to dump your stuff. Staff walks you through the whole process. My mom was riding with me and stayed in the truck while I pulled furniture out, and one of the employees gifted her a bottle of water. Small things like that make an impact. This the weirdest place to get rid of trash. It can get confused for first timers. Fortunately I've been there riding along with a friend. Other than the split entrance which it's confusing (The entrance sign it's positioned on the left side of the entrance pointing to go straight) Because there is a middle split in the road entrance, it makes you think the entrance it's the closest to the entrance sign. As long as you stay on the right you will fine. Keep driving the long alley way to the stop sign and You will be driving trough the weight scale. There is no structure or a small booth to check in. Just drive trough. Some times you will have to wait for instructions after they log your cargo's weight. An attendant who might be standing there will hand you a Safety vest and a helmet. ***UPDATE*** 8/9/2021 (With the corona Epidemic they are not handing any vest or helmets, you need to wear a mask though) After they yelled through he loud speaker Don't try to understand what they said just go It's hard to heard with all the noise and they don't really speak slow and clearly. If you have watched Charlie Brown and hear the teacher speak When she said; "bwahbwahbwahbwah bwah bwah bwah" you will understand when you go there. After that just look to the left there will be a large mountain of garbage. When you are driving in usually the guy driving inside the monster tractor will signal you where to back up. They ask you to back up some here along the Mountain and do your business. Once you are done the same procedure Go to the Back the way you came, onto the scale Wait And Listen for for it, "bwahbwahbwahbwah bwah bwah bwah" And drive straight out the scale. Park any where on the right side along the long hallway leading out to the street. Don't get criminal ideas to kept going on and avoid paying. There are cameras all over Plus your car license and face probably where recorded while on the scale. As you walk back towards the scale just before the scale on the left hand side, there is a small trailer office. Get in line to pay at the window. They do take credit cards,Apple Pay, cash (I don't know about google pay) Their credit card payment machine is a bit outdated, it will not take the titanium Apple Card. It will just keep declining payment. Me, I am a big baller!! so cash is my preferred method of paying. After being in construction for almost 7 years, this is absolutely the best dump in the South Bay. The prices are very fair, and the staff is extremely helpful. Although slightly confusing with going in and out on the same scale, it's super straight forward. You pay per a pound, as opposed to a lot of other locations that measure your load. They don't just take construction debris though, I have came here countless times with household garbage which accumulates around the home. Called to verify they were open. The lady on the phone picked up and answered all my questions. They charge a flat rate based on weight. Subject to change but as of today, $75 for under 1000lbs. $135 for over that. A contractor I know recommend them. You pull up, entrance is on the right side. They ask you to pull up on the scale. After weighing it you go around and dump it yourself. Once done go head back onto the scale. Afterward, just park, pay inside and you're on your way. read more

Be very wary! I was told by a place that refused my items I would be paid by Valley Recycling. When I arrived, it didn't say on any visible notices or signs they're fees for dumping. When I was finished, I went to the cashier's office expecting to get money. Instead they handed me a bill for $69! I told them there were no visible signs stating I'd be charged anywhere on the premises and they would not take no for an answer to be paid the full amount. If you look on their website it doesn't say there are fees for dumping too. I would have just driven to the dump and paid about $40 if I had known I'd be charged close to $70. read more

What a dump! Seriously, it's a dump. Expect to pay at minimum $75. Excuse the puns but if you need to drop a load there is a lack of signage. Drive down the long driveway, wait to get your vehicle weighed on the scale before you get allowed in. Once in a worker will tell you where to back it up. Dump all your stuff. The place's entrance itself might be hard to spot if you have a line if cars right behind you but overall, they have nice staffs! Went here twice--on different year but to dispose old twin size mattresses and bed frame. The cashier and the staffs were all very friendly and helpful. Both times, I charged $25 per mattress. Not too shabby if you don't have a place to dispose your stuffs & Goodwill stores aren't accepting due to the nature of the mattress/ wanted to do so the "right" way. read more

Valley Recycling is a solid waste facility that recycles household garbage and waste. (Food and hazardous materials aren't accepted.) It's conveniently located in central San Jose, in the South 7th Street industrial corridor one LOOOOONG block south of Spartan Stadium. I'd classify Valley Recycling as a self-serve operation, with very little in the way of signage, instruction, or human direction. So, for the benefit of the uninitiated, here's the drill: Drive your vehicle onto the elevated scale, which measures the gross weight of your vehicle (including garbage). Electronic surveillance records your vehicle's license plate and general description. You receive a garbled audio BLAST that sounds like "Go!", from a speaker adjacent to the scale. Next, drive down the scale and circle 'round to the dump site. Reverse your vehicle toward the edge of one of the garbage mounds and unload your vehicle. Return to the scale, where your vehicle's tare weight (sans garbage) is measured. Finally, drive to the office and pay for the load you just recycled. Straightforward? Yes ... but only after your maiden trip. The first time, not so much. The fellow who operated the 'dozer the day I visited the facility was abrupt, really abrupt. He counseled me when I drove head-first, as opposed to backing in, toward the edge of the garbage mound to unload garbage from my van. What he said was correct, i.e. I should back my van toward the garbage mound, because doing so simplifies the unloading process considerably. Still, his screaming was startling. Made me stop and say "Wow!" in my head. The woman at the office who collected the fee was professional and courteous, a nice counterpoint to the 'dozer driver. So I was able to leave Valley Recycling as a customer with a favorable final impression. As for the recycling fee ($56, plus a $10 environmental fee markup), it seemed stiff for a van-load of standard household garbage. Thinking about it later, though, I concluded that it really wasn't all that bad or unreasonable, considering I had just unloaded 300 pounds. Also, a portion of the fee could be deemed a convenience fee for Valley Recycling's location in the heart of San Jose, unlike the large regional landfills -- the Zanker Road landfill in far north San Jose near the, ahem, odoriferous Water Pollution Control Plant, and the Guadalupe Mines landfill in the remote hills southwest of San Jose, accessible only through an interminably long and winding road.
