The negative appraisal by Sam B. on Yelp was a serious concern to me, and that prompted me to inquire about its validity. I was told that it has always been the policy of Frank Electric to provide verbal estimates by telephone based on the customer's description of the work. Should an actual inspection determine a different situation, the customer would be informed before any work was done. Should the customer then not agree to the revised estimate, there would be no charges for the full onsite inspection or estimate and Frank Electric would not charge for the visit. That procedure was followed, and the customer agreed and understood why the work would be more involved, take longer and cost more since the chandelier was fifteen feet long with crystals on long sttrings and was to be hung at a height of twenty five feet from a winch system wired and installed by others. Frank Electric was told to proceed with the assembly of the chandelier. After the work was completed and fully operational the customer refused to pay for the actual cost incurred. Future work for that customer was placed on a prepay basis. Satisfied and on the basis of my friend's recommendation, I employed Frank Electric for all my new work including replacing fixtures, switches, dimmers and installing concealed USB data cabling. They had all the materiel necessary. The electricians worked together as a team. The final charges were not only below their original estimate, but the quality of the work exceeded all my expectations. I can not rate Frank Electric highly enough.

First visit: 2 guys came and removed old wiring and installed new wiring. Obviously, they have no idea what to do. Complained about boiler transformer, thermostats, and new zone values and gave up and left. Second visit: They sent a different guy adjusted some wiring and left. Guess what, that only worked for one zone and others have no heat. Third visit: Came again and complained about thermostats installed by first visit guys and replaced them and left. No heat again in other apartments Forth visit: Same story....no heat Fifth visit: This time I was frustrated and told them explicitly, that your wiring was wrong and just followed how exactly was done in another boiler. Finally followed my directions and corrected the wiring. They were supposed to do it on day one in less than an hour. Basically, they had no clue how to fix it and still took the job. I have been telling from day one, that you guys are doing the wiring wrong. They completely ignored me and made 5 visits to fix a simple wiring. This boiler serves heat for 5 apartments. It means 25 calls to my tenants to test the heating. Boilers are pretty simple technology and they work flawlessly. Just to slap me with the bill, they changed unnecessarily so many things for the perfectly working boiler. I strongly suggest staying away from this company if you would like to protect your money and equipment. I regret hiring them based on Goolge's reviews. Hope this saves money and time for someone.

When issues came up--which happened frequently--they were more interested in deflecting blame than fixing the problems. Over a year, they raised our service rates by 25% without any notice or explanation, and when I reached out to ask about it, they never responded. I also requested several quotes that were never provided. As a busy business owner, I shouldn't have to chase down contractors just to give them our business. Even worse, they billed us for services that were clearly not performed. I verified this myself--twice--and one time had to bring in a third-party HVAC tech to confirm (with photo evidence) that a rooftop unit hadn't been serviced as claimed. Despite being presented with clear proof, they refused to acknowledge or resolve the issue. After nearly two months of delays and rescheduling for a correction that never happened, we finally hired another company to finish the job. Their refrigeration work was even more troubling. They miscalculated and mis-sized a walk-in freezer, resulting in a system we had to completely replace. Nonetheless I gave Harmonic a chance and am happy I did. I'd give them 4 stars just to break the trend, but that wouldn't be fair as they really are the best service provider I have seen in years. They communicated well both on the initial call, and during the appointment. The dispatcher Liz actually called to tell me they'd be running 30 minutes late and confirmed with me that that would be okay. Nice touch. Tony (an owner) came out at the new time and properly assessed the situation and presented a couple solutions. As I am a well-informed customer, (maybe too informed for some) I am always appreciative of techs who are not scared off by my technical questions and don't try to snow me. Tony had no problem that I knew the jargon and the systems in play, and was a consummate professional. He even stated that he wouldn't be suggesting a maintenance program as it was obvious I had that in hand. The price for the call was very fair ($79) and the price for the service performed was also fair. This alone sets them apart from most HVAC people in the western suburbs where up-front gouging is the norm. Too many companies both big and small want to charge you crazy prices just to show up and then have the stones to put the screws to you from there on. He never came close to suggesting I replace my 18 year old system. For HVAC folks, that's test number 1. LOL It's clear to me that Harmonic is building a reputable business that will provide a valued service without all the greedy nonsense. They are not a bare-bones cheapest-on-the-block operation by any means, but they are also clearly not out to rip you off like so many others. I have no doubt they will be around for a long time. I recommend Harmonic and will call them again when I need an HVAC pro.
