Great place for great diner food. Been here a couple times, mostly for breakfast, and the food its always good. Belgium waffles and potato hash are delicious! Mornings are always crazy busy, but service is fast and polite. If you want sweetener for your coffee or tea, you'll have to ask for it or bring your own as they only have basic sugar on the tables. Great large diner in quiet little Derby and we try to make a point of dropping-in each time we're visiting family near-by. The diner is clean, decorated nicely.... apparently they put a lot of effort into giving it curb appeal and making the dining experience even better. Another place in the valley for good chicken noodle soup! It's warm, delicious, and will probably fill you up after your second bowl. And before I developed an allergy to egg yolk, I really enjoyed eating their eggs and home fries! I miss dipping those crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside potatoes into that yummy drippy egg yolk. So if you aren't allergic, you really should try them. read more

Went here for breakfast had blueberry pandcakes very good. Also had coffee only one problem. had to call waitress over twice one for syrup the other time for a refill. Food was excellent. Looks like they may have been short handed. Will go here again. read more

A group of 24 from Nutley, NJ at a competition at Monroe, CT visited this evening for dinner while we had some down time. You guys were more than accommodating with putting us in the private room. Ehhhhh more like 2.5 stars. I have had some good meals here (and it's good to talk business because you don't feel rushed) but I've had a couple meals here that were tasteless or luke warm. I would like to give zero stars if I could. Absolutely HORRIBLE service, entire staff is rude. My food was inedible. The hash looked like something from the garbage disposal, bacon so soggy, it was floppy, stale toast, undercooked eggs and soggy "home fries". My boyfriend ate his pancakes but I asked them politely to please remove my meal from the bill because I couldn't eat it, the owner ARGUED with everything I said. He berated me in front of the entire place. Acting like a pretentious misogynist. Dude, it's a diner, not an actual restaurant. Get over yourself. I wonder if he'd have spoken that way to a man.... Wouldn't suggest the breakfast food, have been there 3 times and every time i had to send my plate back for a refund or another plate that was still equally as bad. Pancakes tastes like they were not fully mixed, the french toast tastes like raw eggs in cinnamon bread and the bacon tastes like tire rubber. Then when i asked for a refund once , had an argument with the manager because he felt like i was lying or something about his food tasting like an easy bake meal. So sad. read more

Since I was 10 years old, I've been going to the Valley Diner. I've seen the place change more than once, and I've seen the ownership change more than once. It's had it's great times and it's really bad times. I think I can say that right now, it's at one of it's higher points. I've never had a bad experience since the new owners took over a few years ago. The food is always good, if not great. You get good sized portions for your money and the food seems to get served pretty quickly. The waitstaff are always kind and treat you like your special. Most importantly, they're attentive, making sure everything's okay and that your coffee cup is full. Back in July we had a family gathering here of about 30 - 35 people and they handled it wonderfully. I heard nothing but compliments about the food & the staff. I don't have many complaints. The last time I was there, there was an issue among two of the staff members and the manager didn't move the confrontation off the floor, making an uncomfortable eating experience for those of us in ear shot (and I know the manager was aware of it). The other complaint is really just an aesthetic one. While the remodel a few years ago was probably necessary, it gave the diner a very bland look. It just lacks personality now. A minor complaint really, but still... Overall, this is a great place to go, especially for meeting up with family or friends. read more

This place had so much potential. The diner had plenty of different choices and the food came out relatively quickly. However, what wasn't quick was trying to stay off the toilet for the next 4 hours after the meal. I suspect the food doesn't move very quickly and some spoiled food got mixed into the good stuff. The newly renovated valley diner isn't bad. They always seem to be pretty busy but the wait has never been too long. It's your typical diner food and atmosphere. Good for breakfast, brunch or a burger. The servings are generous and the wait staff is friendly. The food isnt spectacular but it's tasty and pretty much exactly what one expects at a diner. It's great for a quick latenight, sit-down meal... a step up from fast food. read more

This is a local diner that you can go with your family or friends. Staff is friendly and remembers you after the first visit (in my case). They are very attentive to each customer. During hurricane Sandy, they were a great resource to the community. They allowed people to charge their phones and just hang out at the restaurant. The meal isn't a five star restaurant in NYC. It is diner food. However, the food is tasty and portions are huge. They recently upgraded the decor of the restaurant which was a great investment. read more

My girlfriend and I had takeout breakfast from there today... How does a diner screw up an omelette? Well they can. The bacon was so disgusting that I had to throw the omelette away. I had not been there in years the diner was completely redone. It was beautiful. Busy as I remembered it and friendly staff, some of the same faces from the 90s. The big disappointment was the food. I had a Spanish Omelet and the filling was from a can. Instead of fresh tomatoes, onions and peppers it was a watery tomato sauce. Too bad. It's a diner, how much do you expect? Bad salads, of course, but decent greasy foods. Relatively cheap, so-so service. Desserts, pretty good, actually. Can't speak for the coffee, but you can get tea and honey (which is pretty amazing, in some places--seriously, you'd think honey would be a staple). The rice pudding isn't bad, either. As a kid, I was fascinated by the incredible amount of mirrors. Now I just wonder if there's a Polish version of the mafia I should be watching out for. read more

I haven't been here for breakfast in a long time. Decided to try their corned beef hash and eggs. It was good(not the best I have had and not the worst) and the portion was huge. One thing I have to mention about this place, it's spotlessly clean, including the men's toilet. The servers are always friendly too. The previous time I went in I had a turkey dinner. It was good but their gravy lacks any flavor whatsoever! All they have to do is had some Bell's Poultry Seasoning and it would be so much better. I'm sure it's premade or powdered mix but PLEASE doctor it up and give it some flavor. read more

I have been going to this Diner since 1994. Since then it has been through a major renovation, and it is beautiful on the inside, with a private party glassed in room. They have the classic run of the mill diner food, dinner specials, and deserts. I did host a party when they first reopened in 2009 in the private room, and the service was great, and food was good for the price. I tend to stick to the same tuna club, or chicken pesto Panini, but breakfast has to be my favorite meal, which is served all day long. I really like their French toast and egg sandwiches. The Valley Diner is your standard diner, with typical diner food. I try different stuff there all the time and nothing really excites me. Lately I've been trying the wraps. They're OK, nothing special and the buffalo chicken wrap just tastes like hot sauce. The paninis are so hard I always scrape the roof of my mouth trying to bite them. The Greek food is fairly standard, gyros and souvlakis. Burgers are always good. Can't say I ever really have a yen to go there, but it's convenient, clean, decent service, not fast food, and one of the few local places to grab breakfast with the family. read more

So your choices for pancakes are all high fructose corn syrup products between the cheap jams and the fake syrup. Who wants to start off their day loaded with chemicals? Stopped here with my son and 3 of his middle school friends on the way home from Massachusetts. Food was great. Teenagers can be finicky eaters, but on this typical diner menu everyone found something to eat and everyone cleaned their plates. Service was very prompt and the prices were reasonable. read more

This is a pretty good diner - and good places to eat are in short supply in the Valley in general. It's also very clean, including the bathrooms. They never have an issue with me ordering something 'custom' as I am vegetarian, and tell me is there is or is not animal broth in a vegetable soup. I do eat eggs, so I enjoy breakfast there - and they have more than one kind of hot sauce. I have enjoyed the appetizers, paninis, the pasta, spanakopita, and the Greek salad. The prices are not unreasonable. Large portions - unless you are prepared to eat two meals at one sitting, you will be taking leftovers home. It's a decent place and a good value. read more

Great diner food! And they are open 24 hours Friday to Sunday! I recommend any of their wraps or panini and the home fries are a must!
