    Banana split
    Marnie S.

We were over in Latrobe visiting all the Mr. Rogers sites and stopped in to get a banana split and lunch (given the history of Latrobe and banana splits). I got an Italian sandwich with fries and my littles got pancakes. While the sandwich was good, it wasn't great...just meaning, I've had better sandwiches and it wasn't anything to write home about. The fries came out a bit cold and limp. The pancakes were big and my kids really enjoyed them and the banana split was huge and really good! Service was relatively slow, but I understand that many places are short staffed these days and try to have patience. I have more patience than my children haha! The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly.

Last week was my first time ever at Valley Dairy. I came here with my family and we were all pleasantly surprised by how good the food and service is! We came for breakfast and all got the pumpkin iced coffee! It was so amazing! I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's even better than Starbucks iced PSL and I absolutely love Starbucks. And only $3.50 with a free refill? You can't beat that! Everything here is pretty affordable, I was able to get eggs, toast, hash browns, bacon and 3 pancakes for like around $10, might've been lower honestly! The food here was so good that we even came back the next day for lunch. I ordered the garden burger with fries and I loved it! A lot of people in my family ordered the pot roast and really enjoyed. Kaylee was our server both days and she did amazing. She is A very kind person! If I'm in the Latrobe area again, I'll definitely be back!

Birthplace of the split, here in Latrobe. Yum!!

Great service, mediocre food every time. Mashed potatoes were dried in spots as if my portion was scooped up with a crusty top, gravy to heavy and salty. Liver was over cooked and charred hiding under my heavy brown gravy. Salad had two cherry tomatoes and two thin slices of cucumber on lettuce with lots of white core left in the mix. Nice value in a local chain.

Every time I go to Valley Dairy the service is fantastic and the food is absolutely delicious. Their restaurant is always clean and any time I'm in the mood for home style food this is high on my list

Very Good food. Waitress was kind but could have done a little better job checking on the drink but I don't know how many tables she had to attend to. The burger I had was one of the best restaurant burgers I have had in a while. The seasoned fries put a great finish to an amazing meal with my Grandma.

Came here with some friends who grew up in LaTrobe. They told me the ''Banana split'' originated here so we had to try it. Nothing fancy but three scoops of ice cream on top of a banana with whipped cream and a cherry on top in a silver bowl. Prices appeared average -- nothing outageous. They do have shakes/malts and cakes options (as well as food but didn't try any).

Stuffed French toast with strawberries and cream. Wonderful!!

My favorite Valley Dairy!! Service has always been great. Food is a diner style menu with fun new specials. Breakfast is my favorite here. Highly recommend Valley Dairy restaurant in Latrobe.

My husband and I ate one breakfast here. An employee promptly seated us at a clean table. Our waitress was friendly, but she had slow service and made multiple mistakes for us, and we overheard her mess up two other tables' orders. Here are my reviews for what we ate: Giant Cinnamon-Roll Pancake - 4.5 stars - I did not measure this pancake, but it was a very, very large size. Surprisingly, I ate most of it, and I might have eaten all of it if I hadn't planned to eat lunch two hours later. The pancake was fluffy and topped with sweet icing, but I think that it could use more cinnamon. Bagel Breakfast Sandwich - 4.5 stars - My husband ate this sandwich. The bagel, cheese, crispy bacon, and eggs tasted very good. Assorted Cookies - 4.5 stars - These cookies came in several flavors, and I ordered one of each flavor. The waitress, however, told me that two of the flavors were out of stock, which was not true, because I literally took a photo of those cookies in the display case, and you can see that photo attached to this review. She brought out very cold cookies in flavors of triple chocolate chip (which my husband really liked), oatmeal raisin, Reese's (one of my favorites), chaos (several ingredients), and lemon blueberry (my other favorite). My husband said that the cookies were a large size and tasted good, and I agree. The total price for these three foods and one soda was $29 plus tax, a 3% credit-card processing fee, and a tip.

I'm not really sure where to start with this review…read more While visiting, some lovely locals recommended to try the Kitchen on Main as a good lunch or dinner spot. On the outside, you're greeted with plenty of outdoor patio seating in front of the restaurant and live music from an artist playing tunes. Inside is a spacious bar, lounge and woodsy interior with another room with tables and larger party seating. Since we had a little one with us, we thought more fitting to sit outside, watch the horses and carriages pass and enjoy the fresh air. We were told by the hosts that the seating in the front, though unoccupied, wasn't available, but the tables on the side (which I thought were for storage as they weren't set, cleaned or too presentable looking) were. Although a bit confused by that note, we decided to sit outside. It seemed that there was only one server working the outside area as we saw her hastily going back and forth. We were sat at 5:35pm or so. After about 10 minutes, she took our drink orders and 10 minutes later we then ordered our food. We got the drink we ordered then patiently awaited our food. A little after 6:05p, it started to sprinkle with rain outside. If you know PA, the rain can come down hard and heavy, quick. We asked our server if they had other seating available who went to check. As we were sitting on the side of the building - in an uncovered area - we went inside around 6:15p to ask if there was other seating available. Surely a rain soaked toddler and water ruined food isn't the best look for a restaurant serving its guests.. Both the younger lady hosts and a man (not sure his relation to this restaurant), John, seemed a bit perplexed by our request. He then proceeded to advise that the umbrella-covered seating in the front of the restaurant wasn't available, pulls his phone out to check the weather, notes that it doesn't say it's raining, but instead says "yeah, I don't know what that is, maybe it's a neighbor spraying a hose nearby" (while another employee says "I see the rain on the window in front of us") and doesn't really provide any solution for us to sit so we go back outside. Very confused by that interaction, when we saw our server next, we told her that we would be leaving and we'll pay the check for the one drink we ordered. Another girl came out and apologized, saying she wasn't sure why they wouldn't let us sit inside or anywhere else and proceeded to take us to a table inside. Our now hangry and somewhat sprinkled on toddler got her food, noodles with butter, at 6:20p and we got our dishes at 6:30p. The food looked decent though I can't comment on its flavor and taste of our meals as I had no appetite then. I don't know who would want to enjoy a meal there after that interaction. No apology or conversation from a manager was ever had, no items removed from the bill or a complimentary item provided to make up for the poor experience. We didn't eat much as we were quite off put but paid the bill in full. I still have no idea who the "John" guy is and what purpose he may serve there aside from the blatant disregard of guest's concerns and a poor example set in front of the younger employees. Our server and some of the other runner girls were kind, so I don't think customer service and general decency as a human is lacking from this town but this experience and this specific restaurant left that unfortunate impression. If he or they didn't want us there, I surely would have appreciated the honesty so we could spend our money and celebrate Father's Day weekend elsewhere. I don't plan on coming back and only Yelp members don't visit either. If I could tell you to avoid this restaurant at all costs, I would.

Cool that we can be entertained watching food being prepared. Our server, Essense, took our drink orders and gave us a couple minutes to peruse the menu. Salads with homemade ranch dressing arrived soon. Our server was terrific at keeping our dinner at a relaxed pace. Soon our entrees arrived. One blackened Mahi-Mahi and one beef short rib. Nice portions for both dinners. We didn't save room for desserts but, we ordered a couple coffee drinks for our ride home. The golden latte and toasted almond chai latte were a great finish during our drive home.

For my coffee on this morning I ordered a large oatmeal cookie latte. My drink ended up being pretty good because the coffee flavor was present and it really did taste like an oatmeal cookie. There was plenty of oatmeal flavor combined with a lot of sweetness. My wife also enjoyed her iced coffee and liked the rich flavor. The bottom line for me is that I would come back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed our coffees, and the shop itself was a nice place to stop.
