Prices on pies went way up but I still like the food here. Deli is the best. Don't hesitate to try the hot foods.

I attended a St. Patrick's Day luncheon event yesterday catered by Valley Caterers. There were about 55 people in attendance. Valley arrived 30 minutes late. The Irish Soda Bread was so dry and crumbly, after you buttered it and picked it up, it fell apart. I have never been to a St Patrick's Day meal where there was leftover soda bread-this was the first- it actually crumbled in your hand. The corned beef was tough and dry- clearly boiled hard instead of a slow simmer, and overcooked. For dessert, we had stale pastries. Valley used to have such a good reputation- what happened I can't imagine. read more

My husband and I stopped into Valley today so we could place a catering order. While there we picked up some packaged sandwiches and a Cobb Salad. These were all delicious, especially the Chicken Pesto Panini. I'm so glad we visited Valley today! read more

I have come into this deli many times over the years. If you read my posts, you will see I focus a lot on price. Long Island is a very costly place to live and that includes rent in a county that has no rent control so the consequence of that is food prices marked up and customers paying unrealistic prices for food. We all go shopping so we have a good idea of what food costs. Yesterday I stopped off to get get lunch. I never realized that a turkey hero with bacon would cost $11.00. They don't even give you a 1/4 of salad or a pickle to go with that hero. I paid extra for Cole slaw and 1 pickle. So figure about $15.00 for lunch with no drink. I also got a BLT with fries, couple of plain rolls. The bill was $38.00 Pretty excessive. I didn't even get any drinks with lunch. The food is not bad and they usually have a few people taking orders in the back when it is busy. I also saw some other reviews complaining about the prices so at least I am not alone in my analogy. The store is also very old and probably could use a makeover but I know they have been there for a long time and have a decent following of customers over the years. It would be nice if they had a special prices for the lunch heroes or sandwiches. read more

I've been a customer of this place for many many years and everything I purchased was OK. The problem I have with them today is when I picked up my annual turkey for Thanksgiving i was charged a $4.18 fee for using a credit card. That is unacceptable to me. This establishment makes millions yearly and they have to gauge the persons who made them successful. I KNOW i must spend hundreds of dollars every year making purchases. NEVER AGAIN. I can get what I buy there anywhere. I will find a new place to shop. By the way the turkey was only passable. read more

1st time buying a pie from them in request of my in laws saying they're so good, I ordered a pumpkin pie (the sticker said outside the box)for thanks giving and they have them boxed already and left , to the surprise of everybody when is time to eat dessert on thanksgiving night we all found out it wasn't pumpkin but coconut custard... The people who work here are wonderful people ..however the place itself is filthy and the food is ridiculously expensive for the very terrible quality of everything except maybe the roasted Meats . I like Valley Caterers because of their convenience and selection. Their food is ok, not fabulous. It's been there for quite some time so they are obviously doing things right. I think the store can use a facelift especially when compared to Uncle Giuseppe's or Iavarrone Brothers, which to me is a bigger player in the same game. But their prices are fair and their staff is very friendly. Oh, almost forgot, I love their pizza "eggrolls" and don't really know why.......their just plain good! read more

Lilly below said it best, except for the fact that the people are rude and I usually avoid this place for the reasons she stated. Recently I was in a hurry for lunch and got some ribs and a couple of sides they tasted good enough for a hungry man, on the way in. But there was hell to pay the next day in the bathroom!!! Yes, it was expensive too so I had the privilege of paying twice. Usually when I'm with my wife we just drive by because we went there about 10 years ago and she said it's dirty the people look unkept and the food looks and smells spoiled. Don't know what happened to the bakery. Everything just tastes different. The bakery employees are very nice. They just have to scrub the bakery department top to bottom. The fruit flys are all over even in a he icing on my apple ring had to put on in the trash. read more

These guys have been doing it right for 50 years. Saturday I had a small party for about 25 people. They catered it with a good assortment of food, made fresh, tasted great, delivered on time, had plenty of food,utensils all for a reasonable price. read more

I am going to preface this with this was our first time ordering catering from here and it will definitely be the last.If I could give zero stars I would. My family ordered Thanksgiving from here this year (turkey, mashed potatoes, string beans, sweet potatoes, carrots, stuffing, dinner rolls) and it was inedible. We were told we would be picking up a hot turkey so we planned on when we were serving the meal based on that and that our guests had to leave at a certain time. When we got home with the turkey (we live 8 minutes away) it was not hot at all, completely dry and the sides needed to be completely doctored. Between having to reheat the turkey which took a minimum of a half hour and having to salvage the sides we did not end up serving dinner until over an hour after we had originally planned. The string beans were mushy, the carrots were completely unseasoned, the stuffing was dry, the sweet potatoes were the dingiest color brown I've ever seen, and the dinner rolls were basically stale hamburger buns. All of the vegetables were soggy. For the amount that we paid for this meal it should have not felt like we were eating subpar hospital food. read more

Mostly good stuff, and a VERY good staff, especially Jimmy, Joe, John, and Hank. Since the pandemic, I will say that besides rising prices, some of the workers put considerably more salad into containers than what is requested, and they try to make deli slices thicker. The shrimp is outstanding. Finally, the rotisserie chicken is hit or miss. Sometimes it is nicely cooked and scrumptious; other times, its limbs are too pink. Not bad at all. I've seen them from the road many times, but never did stop in. I'm glad I did. Stopped in yesterday to have a Texas Melt on a hero and that freaking sammich was huge! Very good too! Stopped in today to order a beef brisket sammich and that was freaking good too! Both sammiches were flavorful, but I preferred the brisket over the melt because they drenched the meat in the juices from the pan than stuck it on a garlic roll with mozzarella cheese melted in it. It's not a cheap place, yet it's not an expensive place either. The inside of the store is no frills grocery store, but it definitely looks like their deli is the main source of income. food is always delicious. I love the fact that you can make your own salad and it's not a small salad either. I couldn't finish it all! came out to about $8 because I added chicken. My bf orders burgers with fries and coleslaw. That's delicious as well. They have a nice selection of already made foods and you can have them heat it up for you. The desserts are delicious. I had a slice of raspberry cheesecake and that was really good. Everyone is always very friendly and helpful. I haven't tried their chicken or bbq foods yet but next time! Valley Caterers is a one stop shop of good quality food. They have a huge parking lot, lots of help, and an extensive menu. Their deli is well stocked with tons of cold cuts and salads. The rotisserie chicken that's prominent in their front window is succulent and delicious. You can ask them to quarter it or cut it into eight pieces. Match that with some of their homemade corn bread and a side dish and you've got a delicious meal to go! They do a steady business in their bakery. Breads, cakes, pies, and pastries are all very good. For Thanksgiving, they prepare tons of the most requested pies and you can just walk in and buy them freshly made. They're good too. If you want a catering order, especially for a holiday, order in advance and it will be ready. Their spiral hams are delicious. read more

My daughter and her fiancé brought dinner home for the family. A full chicken and a half with sides. Mac and cheese, French fries stuffing, corn etc. My family has eaten from here before so it came to our surprise that the food was horrible. The chicken was "gamey" as if was bad before it was cooked. The sides were not fresh at all. What a disappointment and I might add at a very costly price. This was Valley Poultry way back in 1976, but since they expanded and became Valley Caterers, there is not so much dependence on chicken. As a matter of fact, their brisket is some of the best on Long Island, far superior to delis and on a par with Pastrami King, although far less expensive! Valley Caterers now has become a Bed and Breakfast. This morning there was someone sleeping on one of the tables outside the building. No one came outside to make him leave - until someone used one of the tables to sit down and eat. The person moved to the floor behind the table. No one wiped down the area and how that person could eat there is beyond belief. read more

I've been ordering from these people for many years. During that time, I've watched a steady decline in food quality, quantity, and a regular climb in prices. This week I ordered, at a healthy price, a dinner that was supposed to feed 5-6. My wife and I do not eat that much. I can tell you that the leftovers could barely feed one. Diet pies which used to be good, have turned into typical supermarket "cardboard" with mostly gelatin...... ($ 20.00/pie no less). The chicken gravy has gotten thinner and thinner. I really don't want to be that guy because I know the morning crew at valley caterers very well but the situation at hand calls for this review. First things first, the service at this place is amazing and the workers are very friendly and some of them know me by a first name basis. This has always been my go to place for a delicious sausage, egg, and cheese bagel in the morning for break fast. It has always been my go to Place for lunch as well during the work week. Last Monday, 03/06/2017, I decided to switch up my normal routine and get an omelet, with home fries and whole wheat toast with butter as opposed to my favorite sausage, egg, and cheese bagel. I figured the omelet would be just as good as the favorite bagel but boy was I wrong. The issue wasn't in the taste, which by the way was disgusting as well. The issue was that they gave me contaminated food. I like my omelettes with turkey, American cheese, tomato, onions, and spinach. The spinach was contaminated and I don't even think the actual omelet was cooked properly. How do I know it's contaminated? First of all, I didn't think it was contaminated at first. I knew there was something off about that omelet because I felt like crap all day that Monday. Couldn't even work normally. I didn't think much of it, until the next day. I woke up the next day getting ready for work, headed to the shower and felt funny, I ended up running out of the shower to the sink so I can throw up. It was nasty, all the spinach was coming out and everything else. Than came the fever right after. I ended up calling sick from work. That whole Tuesday I have been bedridden with constant fevers. Slept all day and ate absolutely nothing since I didn't have an appetite and felt crappy. The next day, Wednesday, the fever was gone. I figured I could go to work now wrong again, I ended up having diarrhea all day and had to run to bathroom EVERY 15 min. It is now Thursday night, 11:05 pm, and I still have the diarrhea, and have YET to be at work. And I won't even be able to go tomorrow either since I doubt I will get better. I have scheduled a hospital visit tomorrow to see exactly what virus I have. I am ashamed of you guys valley caterers. You just lost a loyal customer and will lose all of the referrals and personal recommendations I sent you guys, And I am debating about whether or not to get the department of health involved in this issue as well. I will make that decision tomorrow when I find out exactly what Stomach virus/food poisoning you guys fed me. If I could give 0 stars I would but Yelp wants at minimum a 1 star, which is more than you will EVER get from me again. read more

I'm so disappointed to be giving Valley such a low rating since my family used to order from them all of the time when I was a kid. I recently stopped into Valley and ordered wings, yellow rice, and cream of spinach only to find out the wings were dry and gave an off flavor aftertaste, the rice was dry and flavorless, and the cream of spinach tasted like it went bad days before. :( read more

I work in the area and visit Valley Caterers at least 2-3 times per week. The food isn't the problem here, it's the help. Granted some of the deli staff like Johnny and Mark take pride in the food you order and take care of how they serve you; the other guys like John and Hank are generic robots who could care less about how they prepare your breakfast or lunch. In addition, the prices are over inflated and are bearing price gouging proportions. $10 for a pound of tuna??!! $1.29 for a small pickle!! What do they do, catch it in the back??!! And god forbid they throw a regular customer an extra piece of roast beef or a free pickle or some extra chicken for their chopped salad. I'll be going elsewhere from now on as their of plenty of businesses in the area who understand you need to give a little to get a little; in Valley Caterers case that is non existent with the optimal word being GREED!!!! read more

I unfortunately used one of my favorite lunch spots to cater a small party for my wife, i ordered the small vegetable platter, cold antipasto , 50pc hors d'oeuvres, and a wrap platter. The platters were described as small, pathetic would have been a better description. The vegetable plate could have been made at home for 10$ and with alot more included. The cold antipasto was the same issue. Disgusting olives and minuscule amounts of cold cuts. The wraps were good but not worth the price they charged. Also included was a "relish" tray. I was unsure when they mentioned it, again disgusting tasteless black olives, green olives,pickles, and red peppers all of them together just mixed. Naturally everything tasted like a pickle. Ive never seen this before. I wish i could give a better review but for the amounf of money they charged i expected sooooooo much more. For catering to be part of their name they really have to give a better effort and value. I wont be using them for this purpose ever again. read more

Today i ordered sandwiches and I'm a bit aggravated because the person I spoke to was so rude. I decided to call in my order while heading there and the guy I spoke to was annoyed. I don't know if calling in an order is not something that anyone is supposed to do there and if that is the case then fine, just tell me. First he sighed when I asked him if I could call in the order then he said, "We're really busy here so I can't guarantee you I can get it ready" so I said, "Well how busy are you? I'm on my way I will just get in line when I get there" and he said rudely "Just tell me what you want." After I gave my order he hung up on me. When I don't feel like cooking dinner but I also don't feel like eating horribly processed take out I head to Valley. It's like walking into your grandma's kitchen where she's been making all the comforting foods you love all day for you to choose from. They have chicken and turkey with all sorts of sides available most of the time as well as ribs, wings, and mozzarella stick type items that are all homemade. They also sell frozen meals like eggplant parm, beef stroganoff, and much more that can be heated and served to your family real quick when you need it to be. There is also a deli that makes sandwiches, a bakery, and a small grocery section with household food items. It is a little bit pricey but I guess the quality and quantity of food they make is probably why. I wouldn't come food shopping here as the everyday items are priced much higher than they are in regular grocery stores. But if you are in the mood to cheat a bit on your diet and eat some mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, and rotisserie chicken then this is the place to go. Also, if you ever need to bring something to a dinner party or barbecue and want it to appear homemade head here, grab something they made (including any number of pies and baked goods), put it on your own plates and take all the credit. read more

Let me start by saying that I have been a long time customer of Valley Caterers, and I just walked in at 3:30 today (Easter Sunday), I thought they might still be serving food, because their doors were open and people were still going in. After getting stared at by one of the workers who didn't acknowledge me with not even a hello, I asked the owner if they still had any chicken, thinking maybe there was some in the back, and his response back, "We don't have any, we are closed" real abrasive and nasty. I know going at that time on Easter Sunday was not really ideal, but to be talked to in such a nasty manner was really uncalled for. I will never be returning there again its a shame, especially on a holiday like this, people will still show their true and horrible nature!!!!!!!! read more

I love this place for the great sandwiches they have and the fresh meats and so on but the best part about all they serve here is the huge amounts of pies. They have a huge section of individual slices of pies in containers and trust me, they are awesome!! Every kind from Mousse to Key Lime. It's a must when you get here for sure. The sandwich menu is on the board behind the deli counter on the wall. They also sell a variety of precooked meals like types of Pastas, Chicken, Ribs and so on. The food here is so delicious! My grandpa who is from Germany has been coming here for years because obviously he enjoys their German food. This place has a section for hot food, deli meats, and cold/frozen food. Everything is very fresh and they really do give you a big selection of stuff. I usually order a dinner when I go with him and they give you a lot of food. My favorite is the honey mustard chicken leg, mashed potatoes, and beans. My friends purchased two apple pies for Thanksgiving dinner and they were amazing! The crusts was unimaginable flaky and soft at the same time. The apples still had a bite in the filling. The filling were not sweet, which is probably why I am obsessed with it. The natural sweetness of the apples was just enough. We are still eating left overs days after and its still amazing. read more
