Came in to get a quick bacon egg cheese on a toasted roll because I've had a decent experience in the past. However this time the roll was over toasted and hard, crunchy. Not what I wanted or expected. The roll Wanamaker buttered so it was particularly dry. I know they have a decent rating but today I felt like I had empty calories because it wasn't enjoyable. I'd you grew up or are are local in Franklin Square, Valley's Caterers was a staple. I haven't gone in quite a while since I was still living with my parents, so we went back to pick up some food for dinner. The set up is very basic. There are three counters within in the store: the hot food, the deli and the desserts section. In the aisles they also have prepared frozen meals and other prepared single served items such a as salads, sandwiches desserts. Growing up we would always go toward a the family meals to bring home which was definitely plenty to feed a family of four. My parents go to was the rotisserie chicken family meal that came with a choice of two sides. The rotisserie chicken is very moist and delicious. They used to have these grilled vegetables I loved years ago, but I was bummed to see it wasn't a selection. The other go to we would usually get is the mashed potatoes and gravy. This time around, my husband wanted their fried chicken, so we bought the 10 piece family meal with two sides. The choice of sides we got creamed spinach and the macaroni and cheese. The chicken was fried very well while keeping the chicken moist. The max and cheese was okay, but nothing too special. A little extra pepper or spice will help elevate the flavor. The creamed spinach was just okay as well. It wasn't my favorite, but it also wasn't the worst I've had. We also picked up some desserts. I grabbed a slice of carrot cake which had the right amount of sweetness. My husband grabbed the cookies and creme pie slice which he enjoyed as well. read more

My family has been driving 20min to go to Valley Catering, on and off for many years. They have great egg sandwiches, and tasty deli sides (great for sides at a BBQ or even just to have in the fridge to add to lunch). Valley also has a delicious peanut butter chocolate pie! I ordered the 10 piece fried chicken family meal it came with 2 sides. We chose Corn on the Cob, sweet potatoes and added creamed spinach. Creamed Spinach would have been better if I went to Boston Market. The chicken was very dry and apparently overcooked. I regret not cooking tonight. The sweet potatoes should have been described as MASHED or Baby Food. Not good at all. Similar to hospital food. A weird taste. My daughter requested these and did not touch them. Corn on the COB. Was not on the cob. Merely canned corn with lots of water in the container. My daughter said " mommy there's too much water in the corn". Food was bland and not flavorful at all. I just recently got reacquainted with Valley Caterers. When I was a kid my Dad would bring food home from this place. I especially remembered the ribs. I don't live far from this place and I always pass it going to Starbucks. It is amazing that it took me so long to revisit. Anyway, I did come back a few times recently and I was satisfied. The staff was great and the food was good. My last visit I had the ribs and they were amazing. Nice and fall off the bone tender with great sauce. I would absolutely recommend Valley Caterers and I will be back as well. My only disclaimer to this review is that I may be biased. Valley Caterers bring back wonderful childhood memories and remind me of how great my Dad was with his boys. read more

We have been getting food from Valley Caters for over 60 years - since there were chicken coops there - well the coops are gone but the food is amazingly good !!! Never changed !! It's fabulous- My kids love the ribs with great sauce and rotisserie chicken is a standard!! People rave about theIr pies - I never had them but my daughter did and she said it was fabulous!! My husband and I have tried and love their fried chicken too! The food is not that great and they charge the price they please. I order a a bunch of hero's from their menu. Charge me $11 for each sandwich, turkey sandwich with Lettuce and Tomato. Seriously, I dont know any deli in Long Island that charges a price like that. Also the price on the menu said 8.50 plus 50 cents per topping, that would add up to 9.50. When I asked the guy in the counter gave me a bullshit story about ordering over the phone in short notice cost more money. Are you serious??? What a rip off. This is what got to me the most. We love there food and don't mind that the sandwiches are on the pricey side. The quality is excellent but when you skimp on the ham in a ham only hero , That is not acceptable. Today my sandwich was super light on the portion of ham As that was the only ingredient you could see why I was annoyed. Valley Caterers serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a ton of take out stuff - either ready to eat or frozen for later. They also do catering for any size affair. The place is big and is always bustling at lunch time - never really hit it for breakfast. The menu is extensive and the portions are big enough for two usually. You won't be hungry later! The only thing that I have ever had here is the pizza roll. I actually consider that the highest form of compliment, though. If I eat at a place and the food is bad, I don't go back. If my meal is good, I go back and try other things. If what I ate was amazing, I don't see any reason to fix what's not broken. The pizza rolls aren't exactly what you'd expect if you're used to the store bought kind. The filling is similar, but what sets these pizza rolls apart is that they are in a perfectly cooked egg roll shell. They're definitely worth the trip. I just bought a dozen today. read more

When you walk in you are immediately in the hot food section where you can order family meals like buckets of fried chicken/rotisserie chicken to meatloaf of eggplant rollatini. Tremendous amounts of sides available. As you continue around you reach the deli section where you can order your typical half pound of turkey to make sandwiches at home or any of the great options they have hanging (my personal favorite is the Paul Bunyon which is chicken cutlet with bacon and mozzarella on garlic hero) As you continue past the excellent deli counter is one of the best bakery's around. They make incredible pies which are so good around the holidays. You may want to call ahead because the line on a holiday morning is so long. Wednesday specials include German Sauerbraten (roast beef marinated in pickling spices an vinegar), red cabbage and potato dumplings. Whoohoooo what an adventure. I also tried a bite of a real Karl Ehmers bratwurst with sauerkraut and mustard. Nice!!!!! I'll definitely get more of this. The place is huge with huge selections to takeout and for catering options. They have ready cooked foods and frozen entered ready to go. I was looking for a good fried chicken and thought I'd try Valley again, haven't been in a while. Now I know why I stopped going. Went on a Tuesday night an hour or so before closing time. The chicken ended up being old tasting, like it was left over from days ago then reheated. Very disappointing. Also, well before closing time, they started cleaning the place with a strong bleach that left me with a very unappetizing sense. For a place known for chicken, it is hard to comprehend the lack of freshness. Also it was probably frozen as well. Will not be going back. I suggest they get their act together. read more

LOVE this place for over 30 yrs. Food is EXCELLENT. Sometimes it can be crowded, but that depends on if there is a holiday. When you step inside the SMELLS are AMAZING. mmmmmmmmmm Homemade.
