My dad couldn't wait to take me here. Nestled in Filmore you will see it as you drive thru town. There's a little restaurant that's yellow and stands out. They have a parking lot in the back! Went in on a Saturday evening and it was really dead around 5pm! They have a full bar, massive margaritas that they will make Virgin if you ask. My dad had a few beers, I had the Jamaica with horchata in it (creamy, sweet, delicious!) their chips and salsa are also addictingly crunchy and satisfying. I loved their salsa, it has depth to it and I couldn't stop myself from eating it! I ordered the green enchiladas (one chicken and one cheese) they are gluten free. Served along side rice, beans, and sour cream. There was a lot of cheese and I couldn't finish it (just because it was so rich!) I took home the leftovers to eat the following day. The dish was fanatic, next time I could stick to the chicken enchiladas, there was plenty of cheese! The rice was cooked perfectly, the beans were a little runny. My dad had the chili rellanos and said they were good, but smaller in size than the last time he had been. He finished his plate! My side salad was nothing to write home about, small portion. Price was decent, $65 for 2 beers, one drink, 2 entrees and a side salad. The service... I feel bad saying this. One of the girls that served us moved very slowly.. she had only 2 other tables besides us that she was attending. It took her a long time to come back when we asked for drinks (I never got a refill) my dad waited 30 min for his second beer. The food came out of the kitchen at a decent speed but the server was taking her time. Another server there was quickly bussing tables, taking orders, and making sure everyone was tended to. If you're a server please look up and scan the room to know if someone needs something!! We couldn't flag her down and this is a small one room restaurant. She could use some training. Luckily the other girl helped give us our check, and took care of the rest. The restaurant itself is charming, cute and quant. I would come for margaritas with the girls. The gentleman who took care of us during lunch was very kind and our food was hot. The restaurant & restroom are clean and there was not an overpowering grease smell which is common in Mexican restaurants. I had the sopa Aztec which was very good with a tiny bit of heat. Another in our party had beef enchiladas and said the red sauce wa a great. Refried Beans had flavor, not just bland beans. The shredded beef was good meat and had flavor. Another in our party had tortilla soup and thought the broth was good however the pieces of chicken were large and needed to be taken out and cut on a plate. The only real complaint I have is the tea was a weak as I've tasted. read more

I took two of my family who live in Fillmore to lunch on Monday before attending a viewing of a family member who passed away. The restaurant was fairly empty with only two or three tables with patrons. We ordered our food (chiles rellenos) which were very good along with ice tea drinks which were fine. The service was good and timely. However, when we got the bill, these new owners apparently added an extra charge for paying with a credit card which pissed me off. This is the only restaurant I have patronized to do this. As a result, I deducted the extra charge from the tip of the server. Most folks don't carry around a lot of cash to pay for a meal and I'm sorry the server had to take the hit because of this asinine policy. read more

When we got to the restaurant on Sunday, Sep 21, 4pm, restaurant was pretty empty, except one maybe two tables had people at it. We were told to sit down anywhere we wanted. Our waitress was attentive, and we eventually ordered our meal. It was served sort of timely. Actually, we ordered an appetizer at first and asked that our main course not be started and brought to the table until we were finished with it. That didn't happen. The main course showed up at the table lass than half way through our appetizer. Not a big deal, but here's where things went South. Once the meal was brought to our table, our waiter vanished. Our table was no longer being served at all for anything. No follow up to see how we are doing, no water refills, no drinks could be ordered, no deserts, no nothing. After sitting there for 30 minutes finishing our meal - while wishing we had more water, wishing we could order a drink, hoping I could get some more salsa - I finally got fed up and went to look for anybody anywhere who could serve our table. I ended up in the back area to have anyone bring us some water. Our waitress peaked her head out from spot she was standing and asked if she could help me. I said "could some please serve our table". Another person, not our waitress, came over to the table and we got some water and ordered another drink. At that point, we were done with our meal but stayed to finish the drinks. Unacceptable service by any standard. The food here is good but the service is almost non-existent imo.... might as well just go to one of the better food trucks down the street if I don't care about being served. My family and I have come here many times and I've usually felt like the service is fairly inattentive and mediocre... unless the owner is there. When the owner is there - Ive only seen him twice - they don't miss a beat, and it's noticeable the difference in service. Today was a total bust. Worse than usual. No tip was given. There's a Mexican restaurant that's very popular and well known down the street (El Pescador), if you don't mind waiting to be seated, and gives excellent service and the food is almost as good. That's where I'll be going. I don't need the frustration like I had today when I go out to relax and enjoy a meal. WARNING - they charge you an extra 3% surcharge for using a credit card, which I believe is illegal in California. Businesses are in violation when they add a surcharge to your bill for using a credit card. They are allowed to give a discount off the bill total for using cash but they cannot add a credit card surcharge to the bill for using a credit card. read more

All 4 of the taco's were exactly same- Burnt and cracked tortilla shell, burnt ground beef and lettuce, tomato and cheese were scarce on each taco. This is a family owned and run restaurant. I've been a few times with my family. I never got my meal like I ordered it, but I just accepted it, everyone else enjoyed their meal. The last time I went ordered a mango margarita in the rocks with the works. Got it blended...no works. For my meal I ordered the soup with no crispy strips and an order of grilled chicken on the side. When she delivered our meals I said I'm missing my chicken...she said, I put it in your soup. I didn't want it in my soup. I took a couple of bites of my soup and noticed there was no cheese or sour cream that comes in the soup. I mentioned it to her and she said, oh you want cheese and sour cream ... I said yes...she took my bowl with her, came back with it and had not only put the toppings on, she also added kitchen trash, egg shells, veggie scraps and I don't know what else. I was so upset, it made me sick to think what else could have been in there. My son didn't want to rock the boat. So he paid, tipped and we left. I feel I could never go back there, knowing a family member did this to a customer, I'm sure I'm not the first. I let everyone know of my experience and they can decide for themselves. They were waiting for me to pay first probably. I ordered 3 tacos with tomatoes, onions and cilantro. Also chorizo breakfast burrito with potatoes. The food was nothing like I ordered. I received a saggy burrito without any meat and no potatoes. Also tacos with no tomatoes, no onions and no cilantro. I called them and their excuse was they were so busy. Last time we tried this restaurant, on a Monday it was closed. Seems like now it is open on Monday's. It was clean and bright inside. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. Chips and salsa were brought to the table within minutes. We did not have to wait long for our order to be taken. We ordered Potatoe tacos and a Chili Verde burrito. Both were excellent! The salsa with the chips was mild. We asked for a spicier one and it was brought out. (it was spicier) The waitress came to check on us throughout the meal. Prices were reasonable. Came here on the recommendation of a (white) friend. Hubby and I (also white) both enjoyed our meals. The salsa that came to the table with the chips was extremely mild and the chips were really underwhelming but we liked everything else. I ordered a bit too much and had some to take home. Hubby tried 3 kinds of meats and was pleased with all. I got a bean & cheese chimichanga + a chicken taco + a chicken sope and all were tasty. I'd probably get the taco & sope again. The chimichanga was a little too heavy (it was an custom order I asked for so no one to blame but myself on that). We stopped at Vallarta several hours into a long road trip and were super hungry! We had to wait for some friends to catch up with us and our server was so nice about us taking up a table- they brought us chips, salsa and drinks. Everyone ordered something different and were pleased with each dish feeling that it was both reasonably priced and a very good value. The molcajete was outstanding! The staff were friendly and very good about checking on us/ refilling drinks. The restaurant is cute and clean, including the restroom. Parking behind the restaurant was ample, we were able to park a truck and trailer. Street parking seemed available as well. It was everything we were looking for and we love supporting locally owned small businesses. This will definitely be a regular stop when we go through Fillmore a couple of times a year. read more

Hello, Just wanted to give you some feedback. We love your restaurant and have been there a handful of times. All have been a great time with great service. Unfortunately last night we went and had Heaven as our waitress. She was not very friendly and completely messed up our order.. my wife got the wrong food. She ordered carnitas tacos and she got chicken flautas. She just just kept it becausewe had been waiting so long. My food was delayed over 20 min more, then when she brought it out it was wrong. I ordered enchiladas poblanas and she brought out chile rellenos! She again left us waiting for over 30 mins. Never checked up on us, apologized or anything. She just mumbled that it was her first day and walked off. I had to flag her down to check on my food. Only then did she go check on my food. I finally got it after over an hour. I wanted to reach out because I really do not think Heaven is ready to be a waitress. I understand mistakes happen but she never made it a point to check in us or give us any updates. She would just pass up our table and not say a word. I hope this gets resolved because we love your restaurant and food! read more

There are at least five Mexican restaurants in this small town (I mean, who doesn't love Mexican food)?! While all of them have something to offer, Vallarta is the one I visit frequently. My family had the pleasure of having Carne Asada burritos from this restaurant on a local outdoor work site and they were solid. They were meaty, flavorful, and balanced. There wasn't to much torilla, or too much rice, and I felt it had just enough meat inside. The meat was perfectly well done, not a minute longer, and the rice inside was nicely proportioned and fluffy. (I only regret not having pictures for this review.) My 16 year old, who is extremely picky, wolfed it all down, which is not typical as choosy as he is. I also had a helping of their chips and salsa, and they were solid as well. The chips we nice and crisp and the salsa was fresh and lively, not runny or watery. If you are in Fillmore, I would highly recommend Vallarta. I hope to have them again when in this area. This place is an absolute joke. The customer service is non-existent... the employees are allowed to disrespect customers amd then play victim. I complained several times about a disrespectful employee named heavan amd nothing was done. Then she replied to my original review on Yelp, in a disrespectful manner.. either she's related to the owners or they simply do not care about their customers. Vallarta is one of my all time favorite Mexican restaurants in Ventura County. I'd make the 30 minute drive for it anytime for the price, service, and food it's definitely worth it. Service: came in early on a Tuesday night and we had a fantastic waitress. She was friendly and suggested great happy hour options (they don't really have a menu showing their happy hour so it's good to ask). For example: Tuesday's their tacos are happy hour & their half giant funnel pitchers of margarita are $25, easily 2-3 people can share this. Only thing with service is they get extremely busy the later into the night you get, our service started as 5 stars but in all fairness once it got busy we did have to flag down our waitress for multiple things, didn't hold that against her though. Margaritas: honestly they are the best!!! Cucumber margaritas on the rocks are like nothing I've ever had before, this alone is worth the drive. I've also tried they strawberry and mango margaritas but cucumber is the fan favorite. Again, I recommend the margarita towers for a group, half a tower on happy hour is $25 and the 96 oz large is $50. Splitting this with your friends is cheap for how much you get. Food: the food here is amazing, I have yet to try something I didn't like. The regulars recommend their seafood dishes and tacos. Having tried the carnitas tacos I can advocate that they are good. For my favorites though I always go with : The baked butter mussels: delicious appetizer! Buttery, cheesy, the best. Not something I would usually get at a Mexican restaurant but it's great and fresh. Also hooked on the taquitos. The appetizer order is the best, shredded beef with lots of cheese on top with a side of sour cream and guacamole it's the absolute best!!! 5 star food all around and a cheap price. Give this place a try, it's honestly the best in Fillmore. Come early though because it gets packed. read more
