This restaurant is outstanding. It is the over 100 year old New York Central RR Valhalla Train Station, which was a passenger and freight station. Attached to it is a Baltimore & Ohio RR caboose and a Lake Shore & Michigan Southern (New York Central RR) business car. Unique place, especially for children because of the train atmosphere - my son loves looking at the trains go by. A+ for parking - free and there's a huge lot used for restaurant goers as well as commuters. Very friendly bar and wait staff every time I've gone (except for an older woman by the hostess booth - assuming an owner or manager - seems very unpleasant and rude). I used to stop in more frequently but unfortunately it seems like management continues to raise BOTH food and drink prices, it's become absolutely ridiculous at this point and I know numerous people who don't stop in anymore because of that. Might as well just walk by, hop on the train and enjoy a night out in NYC - you'll be paying the same amount. I feel like this place could have a lot of potential considering it's located next to the train station if it was more affordable and if they tried to advertise a bit.... Struggled with 2 or 3 stars, couldn't get myself to rate this place as A-Ok though. Maybe Jon Taffer from Bar Rescue could step in with restaurant management tips to keep people coming back... food for thought. read more

Atmosphere very nice and clean. My family and I ate there the end of Oct. 2013 during October-fest season The food unfortunately spoiled the atmosphere Confirmed by all of us, food was almost uneatable. I really wanted to write a five star review, I really wanted, but considering the overall experience , I can't. I'll start saying I've been here in the past and the experience has been better. I went there on New Year's Eve and this might have affected the overall quality. First we ordered the Nachos, which were overwhelmed with too much cheese and grounded beef; too few nachos and too much cheese. moreover the beef was too watery and the nachos were soggy. I ordered a burger (Johnny Bronx) which was good, but the fries on the side were really bland. For dessert we had a chocolate peanut butter pie and sundae brownie, both ok,nothing spectacular , but on the small side. The waitress vas nice but we were rushed, being New Year's Eve you could definitely tell they wanted to get home. I should mention I had a mild case of upset stomach the day after, which is definitely not related to the amount of food, since I usually eat more when I go out, but it could be related to other factor, such as the cold temperature , although the timing is kinda odd. I would love to go back and give these guys another chance but there are so many restaurants out there and so little time, so I don't know. read more

I just moved to the area and this is a must in then area. I've been twice now and both times I've been excited but completely underwhelmed. I see the great reviews and really wanted this to be my monthly place by the train station. Sadly, that is not to be. The first time we tried the corn fritters and both us us felt it was just ok. We ordered pulled pork and a basic burger. After we left, we both felt gross internally, and we hadn't even eaten half our meals! I am not sure if it was the fried fritters, onion rings or French fries...maybe it was just too much "fried" altogether and we were not used to it. Either way, we were not in a rush to visit again. Second time we went as a friend wanted to. My boyfriend thought his Philly cheesesteak was pretty solid. I got the pulled pork again - just to make sure I gave it a fair chance. Nope-just ok. It also didn't help that when using the bathroom the toilet holder top fell smack on my head (it was held together by tape). Sigh. I have to disagree with all the yelpers on the food and only go back for the beer. read more

I've come here a few times with my family and have never been disappointed. I would recommend eating in the "restaurant" side of the house as the bar area can be very noisy and cold. I've had everything from burgers to wraps and they are always HUGE. The macaroni and cheese is one of their better non sandwich items. Their wings are very good as well. Big disappointment, especially considering the price. First the positives: Salads and sandwiches were fine, that's the "bar food" end of things. Prices sort of top end for bar food, but those in our group who had the casual food were fine with it. Also positive was the setting. Roomy, airy, pleasant. Now the negatives. Quality of the entres was not great, it was, in my opinion, marginal. Service frankly stunk. We were met by somebody in management who seemed pissed off that she had to work that day. Gave somebody in our group a real tongue-lashing for daring to ask if they had any specials that day. That was met with "We don't need specials, we have plenty to pick from," and that was delivered with disdain. It was pretty embarrassing, actually. After hour meals were dropped off, didn't see big boss mama bear again for at least 40 minutes. never checked to see if she could refill water glasses or take orders for more drinks. The Irish had good reason to drink that day, and she couldn't capitalize on a thirtsty group. She knew she was getting the automatic 20% tip that gets added on for serving a big group no matter what, and she had NO incentive to do a good job. It certainly showed. The joke was on her, because my family will trip 25-30 % for great service. And she was far from great. The other negative - you have to watch how they pour their draft beers. They tried to send out a Guiness Stout that was 1/3 head, I sent it back. It became a game of how much could they stick it to us. Will not return, as the lack of service trumped everyting else. Good luck. Maybe if you go there all the time they'll treat YOU better, but that's a lousy legacy for a restaurant that charges the prices they do. Fuggedaboutit. read more

We arrived and were immediately seated in a tiny little room where we could barley sit down without hurting the diners next to us. The waitress came relatively quickly to take our orders, and we got our appetizers. The calamari was bland, but the nachos were good. We waited for our entrees to come for over an hour, and were severely disappointed by what we got. The burgers were not good considering how easy it is to make a decent one, and the chicken on the Santa Fe salad was as hard as a rock. Overall the service and food was bad, but the employees themselves were very nice. The restaurant seemed understaffed and unorganized. Will not be coming back. read more

My husband and I saw this place as we were sightseeing in Westchester County a few weeks back and noted it so we could plan to eat there at another time. Living Social just happened to have a deal for Vahalia Crossing and we tried it last Saturday. The food was great! The restaurant has great ambiance and our server was so wonderful. Of course I've misplaced the receipt with his name on it, but he received a great tip from us based on the full price of the meal. My husband had jambalaya which he enjoyed although was a bit too spicy for him. It was a huge order with tons of seafood and it was delicious. I had the Louisiana burger which was to die for! So what's the big deal about a burger, you say? This one is done right with these cajun spices that give the burger a nice pack of flavor. I just had to write a review as great food and great services combined doesn't occur as much as it should these days. Big Thumbs up! read more

Went for octoberfest. Food was fine nothing special. Service was AWFUL. ignored repeated requests for bread and cutlery. Forgot onion rings on an order and when reminded came back 10 minutes later with three teeny onion rings on a plate. No apology nothing. And to add insult to injury they added a 20% gratuity onto check. Disgraceful. read more

We were there for Mother's Day. I had heard that the salads were great so I ordered one for my mother in law. It was huge. She loved it! Points for me! I ordered the ribs and chicken. The BBQ sauce on the ribs was so good I even dipped my fries in it. The chicken leg was a bit on the small side though. The broccoli was a little bit salty. My husband ordered the crossings burger and now he is a forever fan. The decor is really quaint and unique. We sat at the bar side of the restaurant but it was an early dinner and it wasn't noisy. Went there Thursday evening for wife's birthday with kids... After ordering and waiting an hour for food went to find waitress who said they would look into why order was taking so long...we only ordered a burger,chicken fingers, chicken wrap,and wings... Food came out 15 mins later... When I picked up first wing it was cold as if it had been in the fridge...called waitress who apologized and offered me something else... I declined didn't want to wait another hour...when waitress came back with bill she turned her back to me and handed it to my wife.... I took it to the front desk to pay ... bill came to almost 80$ for those items plus 2 sodas... No other drinks...hostess apologized but that was it..... Won't be back!!! read more

Not only is the food delicious, but the food is abundant! I have gotten a doggie bag for my food every time I have gone so I could enjoy it again later on. The service is a huge positive. Help is always available, and the waiters and waitresses are pleasant and helpful. The railroad theme is obviously quite original and the Crossing does it well. Clean bathrooms, clean dining rooms, couldn't ask for more! read more

Had a great time there the other night! The staff is filled with many young, exuberant people. The service is great and the atmosphere was incredible! Sit near the bar if you prefer a louder atmosphere, but for a more quiet comfy experience sit in the dining room. I had such a great time I had to put a big tip, you will probably need to as well. We have been coming here for years now. Back then- ratings higher- these days my kids and I have been leaving very disappointed. Management and service seemed to have taken a turn for worse. Food is ok. Menu has not changed in years and never any specials to change it up. Shame they don't open spectacular outside seating either. My wife and I ate here for the first time on March 26th and it was great! I had a burger and it was delicious. It was cooked the way I asked and it was huge (10 oz.). Their selection of draft beers is excellent, with craft brews for the younger set and more traditional beers for geezers like me. My wife loved her dish as well. Our waiter, George, was great, very attentive and friendly. The décor is cool, like an old train car, and very comfortable. We highly recommend The Crossing! read more

Myself and my fiancé to be went to this quaint place yesterday. It was very nice upon entering . The waiter was fabulous and the burger sliders and zucchini sticks were fabulous. The male waiter was very at tentative to our needs weather or not we wanted water a drink or to know where the bathroom was. He's was very happy and pleasurable. The mature dee however had us standing there for at least fifteen minutes because he was on a personal phone call jabbering. We decided to go to the back because he was too occupied on the telephone. Other than that we had a pretty fun time. Would we go back again ? Most definitely and we would recommend it to others. read more

People these days are very quick to point out bad service and negative comments, but this email is to point out the wonderful food and service I had last night (1/13/14) at your restaurant. It started with me meeting a friend after work at the bar. I really didn't know what I felt like drinking so I ordered my usual screwdriver. The bartender (who I had seen there the last time I was there) took my order, but he then paused, and asked me if I would like to try something new! I was so shocked that he went out of his way to even suggest such a great idea, so of course I took him up on it and he proceeded to make me a fantastic drink using some of your flavored vodkas. When it came to my second drink, I let him totally make me whatever he wanted to do next, as I was so thrilled to try such amazing new drinks and the second one was even more mind blowing then the first! My friend was so impressed that he switched from not having a cocktail to having a few himself, LOL. This will be the last time I ever order a boring screwdriver! After a few cocktails we had a lovely dinner.. I had the roast chicken and my friend had the 16oz steak dinner. I can not tell you how delicious and FRESH the food was. I can not even remember the last time that I was in a restaurant and was served such delicious, fresh, spinach! The flavors of all of the food were so well done, not overdone like restaurants tend to do. The quality of your food is top of the line and cooked to perfection. My extreme kudos to your bartender/waiter and your chef. I have been to your restaurant many times, and again, over and over, your consistency of excellence continues to raise the bar.
