    Freddy’s Restaurant - Burrata

I found myself at Freddy's to celebrate my dad's birthday. He was in the mood for a burger and…read moreafter searching the Westchester area we ultimately landed here. The pics, reviews, and menu all seemed to point towards a yes - so off we went. Freddy's is located within the main commercial hub of Pleasantville. It's not a large restaurant, but holds a decent amount of seating with tasteful and laid-back decor. We were there right at opening at 4:30p, so it wasn't crowded but started filling up as time progressed. The menu is mostly American - arranged by apps, salads, entrees, sides, and desserts. I decided to start with the burrata which was served with diced butternut squash, brown butter, and grilled bread. This was...not what I was expecting. Burrata usually comes as an intact sphere that you cut open to reveal the soft cheese inside. This was already broken, and served in an almost deconstructed way. It honestly looks like a way to cut corners as it was definitely not a whole burrata. That, and the lack of flavor do not make it worth the $17 they charge. My main was better - I ordered the smoked chicken which was a breast on the bone and came with grits, spinach, and honey au jus. This was tasty - the chicken was juicy with crispy skin, and the au jus added a welcome sweetness to the grits and spinach. We opted for dessert because birthday - I chose the carrot cake which was just okay. No nuts, raisins, or noticeable carrots - so, a spice cake? As a side note, we were there during HV Restaurant week, however in lieu of a dedicated menu they offered a prix fixe app/entree/dessert off their menu. It sounded great at face value, but then we were told the portions would be smaller - and for items they couldn't shrink they up-charged if we ordered off the regular menu. IMO, not the best way to do restaurant week - either have a dedicated menu for it or don't participate at all. That being said, we decided to order off the regular menu. Service was good, everyone was friendly and food came out at a good pace. Overall, Freddy's sent me mixed signals - the food wasn't bad, but this isn't a place I would go out of way to try again - it's more of a local spot in my perspective. If circumstances found me here again, though, I wouldn't be mad.

I had never actually been to Southern Table, I had only ever had takeout from there once or twice,…read morebut I have been wanting to try it for ages and I have to say it was worth the wait. We went on Easter for brunch, which we decided to do last minute and they let us know they could squeeze us in. We sat on the screened in patio. They were massively busy, but the staff was on their toes, checking in, taking away empty plates, being very kind (even though they were clearly crazy with how busy they were). We started with the Brie stuff pretzels. They were more like pretzel sandwiches (pretzel sticks cut in half with Brie in between), but were really tasty. It was all so good, I kept forgetting to take pictures until after we had already dug in. The pretzel app came with 4 pretzel/brie sandwiches. We also got the spinach an artichoke dip. It came with a nice amount of chips (hate when they give you too few and then you're just left with gobs of dip and nothing for it). It also came with salsa and sour cream, which seemed odd, but was nice for the extra chips and also family friendly if the dip didn't appeal to kids. The dip itself was really nice, it didn't taste as rich as spinach and artichoke dips often are. I could really taste the spinach, but in a good way. Usually dips like that make me feel overly full and are so heavy, this was a refreshing take on it. We got the Dutch baby pancake, the kids Mac and cheese, the pimento cheese and ham omelet (which I got scrambled), chicken and waffles, and the hot honey chicken. Overall, the food was delicious. The flavors all had depth and were really satisfying. We came home with lots of leftovers and we were all very happy when the meal was done. We will definitely be going back.

I have been meaning to come here for a minute and finally found the opportunity last week…read more It was Wednesday in June. We were actually supposed to go on vacation but apocalyptic weather at our destination meant that every flight to that region was cancelled or severely delayed and ain't nobody got time for that so we decided to take a staycation instead. It felt only right to do the thing we would have done on vacation and go out for dinner. TBH we're old now so vacation or not, we eat on the earlier side of things. I think we went at around 5:30pm. Ample amount of seating available at that time. They have quite a large menu with many intriguing options. Unfortunately, only vegetarian main I recall was the mac and cheese. Instead, I settled on the santa fe salad for my main and GF the lettuce tacos for hers. The appetizer menu was particularly appetizing but we had to settle on two so we went with the spicy cauliflower and brie-stuffed pretzel. The spicy cauliflower was flavored aggressively, in a positive kind of way. The accompanying ranch brought everything together. You also can't go wrong with a brie stuffed pretzel. I don't typically like sweet in what is traditionally a savory flavor profile but the fig jam really added a welcome new dimension. Santa fe salad was gigantic. I actually was able to eat the rest of it for dinner on the following night. Absolutely loaded with goodies like avocado, corn, cheese, black beans, scallions, tomatoes. What a combo of flavors and textures in that thing. GF enjoyed all of the tacos except for nashville hot chicken but she isn't a big fan of chicken to begin with. I was especially impressed by their drink menu. They have a literal "smoked" menu which I could not pass up. I went with the southern smoke which is out of character for me because I typically don't get bourbon (for a reason...and i suffered later). This drink packed a fucking PUNCH. My goodness. There is no candy land bullshit juice drinks here, you definitely get your money's worth. There was a touch of a time period between when I finished my drink and was asked if I wanted another but at least they did ask. Ultimately a good experience. I do wish they had some vegetarian mains but if you aren't vegetarian and like southern food you would probably enjoy tremendously.

The barback who greeted me had a personality but after he walked away, the bartender was inattentive and devoid of personality. Overall, it got worse since my last visit albeit this time was only the bar and no food as I couldn't bring myself to their price point for a snack while I sipped overpriced meh beers. Still 2-stars, so maybe not as inconsistent as I thought, just not that good period. My original review from 2016 - 2-stars: Really inconsistent. I want to love the place as I have fond memories from my childhood of a place with the same name, that I can't even swear is the same establishment. The place has no tap beers, and pretty big offering of acceptable but not actually desirable bottle beers. I'd rather drink tasty choice brews from my fridge at home.

My Almond encrusted salmon was perfectly prepared, wonderful portion, delicious champagne sauce. I asked for mash and green beans rather than rice and asparagus. Not a problem. The server was friendly, kept us in plenty of water and was very attentive. Baked stuffed clams were very good, a little peppery hot but that didn't stop me! For himself, the surf and turf, and the 8 oz filet was rare as requested, tender. Very fresh lobster tail. Very cozy inside as usual. Place was packed but not loud. Located right off the Sprain, it's in a good location and parking is decent. It looks how it sounds, both inside and out. Nice big bar, a pizza oven front and center, and of course the fireplace. Love all of the wood. Service was good however they were empty so perhaps grading on a curve there. I got the open faced steak sandwich. Pretty formidable portion with plenty of steak, however in hindsight I should've ordered it medium. Got it with bleu cheese and there was a crapton of it. Onions/mushrooms were good. No chance in hell of picking the thing up, yet very enjoyable. My son liked his chicken fingers, mostly just eating the fries as per tradition. My wife's pizza took awhile to come which was weird as they weren't bus and the pizza guy was standing around, however we went as they opened so perhaps they were waiting for the oven to heat up. We came for a post-hockey lesson lunch and this did the job well. My son generally prefers Valhalla Crossing nearby (trains, ya know) which has a similar vibe, however wouldn't mind inserting this oldie into the rotation once in awhile.
