Airbnbs or bed and breakfasts are usually more our cup of tea, but the four humans of our family…read morerecently squeezed into a double queen bedroom at Hampton Inn Rutland for the camaraderie of staying with other ski team families. It was a blast and the hotel was quite pleasant for the genre (mid-range, family friendly). Pros: - There's a nice common room downstairs with a fireplace, where we were able to gather with a big group of friends and share dinner. It's also where breakfast is served in the a.m. - Breakfast service begins at 6 a.m. -- great for those who need an early start. - My kiddos love "Hotel Breakfast" as they call it, and this was no exception. There are two DIY waffle irons with lots of wonderfully unhealthy toppings; hot mini omelettes, sausage, and potatoes; muffins, bagels, toast; cold cereal and oatmeal; fruit salad and whole fruit. - We either had very quiet neighbors or the walls are reasonably well soundproofed. - There's a small, heated pool. It's hyperchlorinated as most hotel pools are, but a nice place to congregate and relax with friends after skiing. - There's a small, but adequate gym -- and a conference room should you need it. - The hotel adjoins a shopping complex that includes a Hannaford's supermarket, an Office Depot and a Michael's. Convenient for friends who had to find poster board for a school project due the following Monday. And we picked up fruit trays and dessert for our team dinner. - The hotel is dog friendly! We traveled without our pup this time, but did get to hang with some great guest canines. This is a massive plus in our book. - Beds were quite comfortable and staff were nice! Two people even dressed up as Santa and Mrs. Claus to say hello to the kids at dinner. :) Cons: - The elevator was out of order during our stay, so those of us staying on the third floor with lots of ski gear to carry up and down got a GREAT workout. - The pool is quite small, more of a cooler-than-usual hot tub than anything else -- so don't expect to swim laps. - There's no fan or ventilation in the bathroom. After four showers, it gets pretty steamy. Neutral: - It's about 30 minutes from Killington Mountain. There are more proximate, dog friendly hotels (e.g. Killington Mountain Lodge) and Airbnbs, but Hampton Inn Rutland may be better priced. - Our room temperature defaulted to 68 or 69 F. I love that it's eco-friendly and it was a good temperature for putting on ski gear -- but we usually keep our home a bit warmer than this. You can change the temperature of course, but ours kept defaulting to the cooler setting at night. - We're not big TV watchers, but for those who are, I think you need to sign in to Netflix, Disney+, etc... with your own account logins. The hotel does not have its own subscriptions. Overall, this was a great, budget-friendly place to stay with a group!

What a disappointment. To start its showing its age, carpets are old and dirty, riddled with…read morestains. The large bedroom is dark with little character, and almost no artwork. The TV is so small (estimate 36 inch ) and in the corner so far away. No fridge and when I called for ice the told me it was on a different floor but we had no ice bucket, it took them over a hour and a half to deliver one. The bathroom had terrible lighting and my wife couldn't put her makeup on. The entire suite is very old and needs a major upgrade before i stayed here again.

The outdoor heated pool and game room on the first floor were definite highlights, especially for the kids! We loved being able to relax and play after a day of exploring. The on-site restaurant was another big win. It was busy when we arrived, so we placed our order with the hostess and hit the pool for an hour & they delivered to our room. The burger, fries, and chicken strips were all solid, but the Brussels sprouts and cheese curds? OMG. So good. We charged it all to the room, which was a nice option. Breakfast the next morning was fresh and filling--think granola, cereal, yogurt, fruit, bagels, muffins, danishes, OJ, coffee, and even make-your-own hot cocoa. Simple, but plenty to start the day right. Other perks: Free parking Great location (just minutes from Killington Resort) A market and deli nearby (3 or so miles) fresh food & hot food ready to go and market/beer/deli Other restaurants and endless trails in the area We especially recommend Thundering Falls, a beautiful hike Check for Live music The staff was super helpful and friendly. I appreciated being able to text with Valerie at the front desk, she sent a thoughtful welcome message and shared great local ideas. Thanks, Valerie! Our room was clean and comfortable. For the price and location, The Mountain Inn is a solid choice for families, couples, or anyone wanting a fun and relaxing Killington getaway. We'd definitely return!

When we got here, they told me they only had me for Saturday! I was NOT a happy camper! Apparently despite they took my money months ago and sent a booking confirmation of the correct date, someone changed in the system a week before my travel date and removed my reservation for Friday night. Luckily they were able to find another room to accommodate us, but annoyed that we literally will have to check out the next day and move into our booked room. They can't even move our stuff for us because they are so understaffed, so we literally had to checkout in the morning, put our stuff back in our car and check-in at 4 pm. Ugh, rant over! Ok, so about the rooms (since I had the pleasure of staying in 2 separate units). Nothing flashy or spectacular about this place but they do have all of the essentials and the rooms are clean and well-kept. The beds are surprisingly comfortable but not so much of the pullout couch. The queen suit 1 BR had a full kitchen, 1 Bathroom (access in the bedroom which is poorly designed since you have to walk through the bedroom to get in), 1 queen bed in the bedroom, and a pullout couch in the living room. For the other suit (we stayed at room 214/216), it's a 1 BR with 2 Bath, much bigger but only has a kitchenette. This was much better setup and had space in the entryway for ski/snowboard equipment. The unit seem to had new carpeting and has a nice view of the mountain and stream. Amenities-wise, they have a outdoor heated pool which opened 3-9 pm in the winter, a laundry room ($2 quarters for 1 load - same building as the office), a library room with books, limited DVD, coffee & tea and small workout gym (downstairs from office). Location-wise, it's at the end of Rt 4, intersection with Rt 100. There's a BBQ restaurant and bar across the street as well as a gas station. For skiers/boarders, it's about 15 min drive to Killington Ramshead lodge. If you have loaded pass, you can take the Skyship gondola to the mountain much closer (5 min drive) to Bear Mountain. Overall we are happy with this place despite the reservation mixed-up. Timeshare resorts are slim picking for ski mountains so will definitely stay here again.
